I am offering a $100 bounty if a developer can incorporate WebOs multitasking into a SGS3 rom. Please join in and maybe a developer will take the challenge.
For those not familiar with WebOs, it offers true multitasking and is amazing. To see what I'm talking about, watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQ30i-SqcGY&feature=youtube_gdata_player
WebOs has been ported to the Galaxy Nexus and has recently gone open source. This feature would make the sgs3 the greatest device in the world.
Again, you don't have to offer $100, but join in. I've always found that if the money is right, things get done.

Edit: There is a mod in root wiki that gives us webos like multitasking! It only works on AOKP though. It shouldn't be hard to port to TW or AOSP. The page has developer source codes and a road map to porting it. Come on developers, jump on this. Otherwise, I'll have to start pm'ing developers.. http://rootzwiki.com/topic/14167-mo...orizontal-app-switcher-011412build-17-update/

WebOs has gone completely open source. They have released all source codes. It has been ported to the Galaxy Nexus. It can't be too difficult to port here since it took no time for the GN port. It is all driven by Linux too.

I'll pledge $10. I'm thinking that this would have to go into a cm Rom. , since it would be an OS base rather than an app. Seems feasible but a lot of work. Could you provide a link to the GN thread, please.

Anyone know if webos has a media player that will play all video formats like vlc or mxplayer?

Someone obviously never used webos before...
In the YouTube video in the OP it just shows switching back and fourth between open apps. It was a long time ago that I was on WebOS, I know there's something different about its multitasking than android and iOS multi tasking, but didn't see the difference in that one short video.
Can someone explain how it works differently, I'm just curious for my general knowledge.

The first devices (besides the Nexus S, which you can already get from Koush’s section on ROM Manager) that we’ll have ready will mostly likely be devices based on OMAP4, MSM8660/7X30, and Exynos

I have to agree. I am new to the E4GT but not to modding. I came from the USCC Mesmerize and it had CM7 and a pretty much fully functional ICS ROM. I was so used to AOSP that the thought of Touchwiz made me shiver. I do have to say that the Dev's for this phone have done some amazing things with Touchwiz though. Running Calkulins ROM and am truly amazed at how smooth it is. I would love to see an AOSP selection for this phone. If its anything like the Mesmerize then CM7 would be the logical choice to get working as it would provide the Dev's and solid MTD base to do ICS or CM9 off of. any way just my thoughts on the subject. I am very pleased with the Modding community for this phone. Looks like you all have some extremely talented Dev's. I look forward to what they release in the future.

One of the main reasons of me wanting ICS is for that REGULAR ICS THEME AND DESIGN.
WHY WOULD I WANT TOUCHWIZ
I gotta get in. I know I'm not the norm but I kinda like TW. Ok now ya can start the fires. Let the flaming begin.LOL.
ICS 4.0 within Touchwiz
For the many who say they don't like 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich integrated with Touch Wiz on an Galaxy s 2 or other Galaxy s phones, you have to understand that it's a touchwiz phone which customers purchased stock.. therefor, why would samsung completely wipe touchwiz from the phone and only have stock android 4.0? what about the hundreds of thousands who probably like touchwiz and spent their good money just for that purpose? Just wipe it away from them without a choice? Come on, think people.
Now, if people want stock Ice Cream Sandwhich, clearly you'd purchase the galaxy Nexus on verizon or the international version or wait until a developer adjusts an ICS build which is mostly stock.
I mean, is the logic here incorrect?

No android and Ubuntu are 2 different things. They are both Linux but different. The good think about Ubuntu OS is that it runs with arm hardware that's present in android meaning that android phones should be able to run it. I'll be waiting for it to hit and get ported to a bunch of android devices. It will run gloriously on existing android and our s3 once ported. But all we do noe is sit back, enjoy our phones and just wait

Petition to XDA to approach Canonical?
What I would like to see is to see what the interest of the developers at XDA to get their hands on the Ubuntu for Android or the Ubuntu OS for the phones, and then create a petition for XDA to get in contact with Canonical see if there is a possibility to get the XDA developers involved in the forming of Ubuntu OS for the mobile. Just imagine what that could do to help getting Ubuntu out there for mobile devices. I mean. I'm pretty sure we have a bunch of power users out there that would like to beta test it for Canonical.

We have ics and ics source. No one wants to waste time making ics aosp when jb has been out going on a year soon.
They just got source for the Korean jb version of our phone this week. They are working on it but it has some differences.
None of the phones are the same. Different cameras, radios, nfc chips, modems....

Love this phone, love the hardware, but we've been hearing it's coming "soon" for months now. LG either did this on purpose, or miraculously made this the hardest phone to develop for. I'm now regretting switching away from Samsung...who seems to be much more in tune with the Dev community and providing what's needed to let developers have their way with the phones. I wish LG would get it together and give the dev's what they need.

Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
I swear I am not trolling.
But you said your happy you got rid of the BlackBerry and I on the other hand really want to check out the new bb10. I don't think I will buy it. As much as it has to offer it still won't compare. It does feel a niche in the community.
I think it will do well in the older market (30+ professional outside of IT). There is also a tremendous gap now in phone sizes. The only phone with a halfway normal size seems to be the iPhone and most of us still assume the phone as trendy and a fancy feature phone. Not a mini laptop like the Android.
And the reason we want JB is a lot of us downgraded on the software to get a phone with superior hardware. Furthermore, most of us thought the software would catch up sooner than it has. ICS is great but it is like the first production year of a new model of car. Jelly Bean is more refined. There are also additions in performance, battery life, smoothness, and apps.
For example, my wife's phone will tell her what the expected drive time is to work. She didn't program it. It just knows do to her normal schedule. ICS is great software. JB brings with it the very early stages of AI that adapts to your needs.
Just think what Key Lime will bring us. Eventually it will be so advanced it will go one of two ways. One, to hard to develop. Or the other which I hope for, full integration. The software will know what screen you have and radio you use. You just install and go. We won't have to count in manufacturers to release the source. The software will adapt for your nfc chip and gpu.
I honestly don't know why it has taken so long already. The SOC should do a simple handshake with the OS and be in its way.
Um, what was I taking about.

Actually scratch that. I had the 8530 so I know the pain of waiting for an os bb6, and in the end we did get it lol

From an update standpiont, yes, Moto bites. From a general software standpoint, LG is the worst of the big names. Their OTA's run more like alphas, maybe betas. Have yet to see an LG without major software mistakes and I've worked on a fair number of them.
That being said, I know as soon as JB source drops joker, th3bill and myself are going to try to get as far away from LG's code as possible. This is mainly for our sanity.

Hey, so my friend has a sprint OG and I've got a nexus 4... The internal hardware is practically identical so I was wondering why there are no good ROMs based off of the N4?

We are close. I am choosing not to release until I fix GPS as that is a very important feature for most.

Correct. Once Sprint JB source drops (hopefully after my move) I want to get all the devs together and go over how to approach future ROMs. I see a stock based, aosp and N4 based. Also see hybrids of all three as well as ports like Paranoid at that point.
I know we all have our strong and week points and think we should build off that for the end users. How is everybody doing for web space and domains? After the move I plan to restructure/rebuild Martian Imperium as a more multi-dev website and already have some folks on board for the change.
Seems pretty legit so far, stable and plenty of options. Didn't see a Dev thread so didn't know who was running this ROM. Its available on goo manager under drewgaren. If the Dev wants this gone just let me know! Loving the ROM so far though!

Drew doesnt exactly have the best rapport around these parts lol, good dev yes but many would consider him shady for multiple reasons.
Didn't know that, knew ID seen his name many times before but wasn't aware of shady activities

I tried his ROM a couple weeks ago. It wouldn't even boot. It was the updated one in the toro section on goo.im. the only time I don't have a ROM boot is when there's something wrong with it.
Booted fine for me and running beautifully with ak pirate kernel. May be a keeper!

Tried out the newest one. Booted fine. Seemed nice. A lot of options. Went back to PA tho. Try it out.

I just can't seem to stay on PA, the pie feature is cool but doesn't seem to work right all the time

Yeah everyone says PA.. Honestly I think the orca ROM can do what PA does then more.. I been running it since the update and my old prob is the ram usage...
Edit: also has anyone else tried that awesome auto hide navbar? I like it more then pie.. IMO its more responsive.. And pie just took to long open its nice eye candy though.

Just loaded this on.
I have to say I like a lot of the features like auto hide navbar, custom colors in messaging, phablet mode, etc.
I tried PA for the PIE mode, but wasn't impressed enough to keep it loaded.
I'll let it bake for a few days and see if I still like it at the end of the weekend.

What makes this dev sketchy? Just out of curiosity.

Care substantiate such a claim which has likely deterred a bunch of people from trying this rom?
Out of all the 4.2.2 roms out right now, Orca Project in my opinion is at the top right now. I've had no problems with it, not one crash, and it's very efficient with great battery life, especially given how many customizations it's loaded with. Best of all I never had to get off my pink unicorn at TWRP riding into Orca Project.
I'm running it and I have been for a while I just tried switching to jellybro but I missed this ROM I flashed back within minutes lol. But I still wanna know what he's talking about...
Edit: actually I just realized this ROM looks a lot like carbonrom

Well, he is known for taking other people's work and crediting as his own(supposedly). I know he has done some good work specially in the nexus s/ ics days but he did have some problems on here.

Taking somebody's work without giving credit is just morally wrong, but doesn't mean its a good clean ROM. I was thinking like he was virus, credit card logging shady.
Oh and OP I'm not one of those message board cops but Drew posted his own thread in development for toro plus.

Yes, in the nexus s/ics days it was terrible. And now he posts a rom and is nowhere to be seen in his thread. LOL

Yeah I noticed that too. Decided to switch to ROMs and carbonrom seems to have pretty much all the same features.

Sourcery has all these features and more. I'm not taking away from any other ROM out there. Built in.

Back in the DX days he was known to take other devs work and label it as his own. That being said orca runs nice but is riddled with scripts that dont work, are incomplete, conflicting, and proven tweaks to have no effect. I also dont like the idea of him trying to disable v-sync. Although I do like the name
