Noob-ish ques. Honeycomb on Epic - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to port honeycomb to the epic then turn down the resolution to where it looks like gingerbread.... I saw this done on some other phones.... if it could be done would it be worth it..... would there be any performance gain...
Sent from my Evo Killer using XDA Premium App

It wouldn't be worth it. Honeycomb was made for tablets, not phones. Beside, we don't even have the SDK, so there's not much to work with, so you wouldn't get any "performance gain". Just use the honeycomb theme if you want the look.

Nah I dont want the look I just wanted to know "if" all the above in the op..... I saw when you install honeycomb on a low res device the ui becomes gingerbread like and figured that might be good for having honeycomb on a phone... Honeycomb also has some APIs for game controllers and hdmi so idk I thought it might be cool to see what some of our devs might think about it....
Sent from my Evo Killer using XDA Premium App

Honeycomb has under 2000 apps and no support for anything but the Tegra 2 chipset. Not worth it , but it couldn't be done anyway since there isn't any source code for it.

How did the hd2 get it

An SDK port that runs extremely poorly and isn't worth the effort when we don't even have an AOSP rom yet.

So why hasn't google relased the source? Isn't it against the law not to release linux source?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

Not at all. They are obligated to release Kernel Source under GPL but nothing forces them to release the OS's source code. Google has publicly stated many times that they are withholding Honeycomb source (for now) to avoid dozens of cheap android tablets (and I mean 600mhz processors and 800x480 10 inch resistive touch screens) from cheapening the "New" Android by running poorly.

The first devices (besides the Nexus S, which you can already get from Koush’s section on ROM Manager) that we’ll have ready will mostly likely be devices based on OMAP4, MSM8660/7X30, and Exynos

I have to agree. I am new to the E4GT but not to modding. I came from the USCC Mesmerize and it had CM7 and a pretty much fully functional ICS ROM. I was so used to AOSP that the thought of Touchwiz made me shiver. I do have to say that the Dev's for this phone have done some amazing things with Touchwiz though. Running Calkulins ROM and am truly amazed at how smooth it is. I would love to see an AOSP selection for this phone. If its anything like the Mesmerize then CM7 would be the logical choice to get working as it would provide the Dev's and solid MTD base to do ICS or CM9 off of. any way just my thoughts on the subject. I am very pleased with the Modding community for this phone. Looks like you all have some extremely talented Dev's. I look forward to what they release in the future.

Touchwiz is a launcher...it can be deleted, easily. I don't get the hate on touchwiz. I don't like it, so, I delete it and use another launcher. Its not like Sense.

I personay feel that Touchwiz is OK. I just prefer a more pure Google experience. Now Touchwiz on the Galaxy S was horrible but this new Touchwiz seems pretty decent. But I welcome the chance to get an AOSP ROM on this thing and see what its truely capable of.

Can Someone make a Froyo Rom for the epic touch

the reason I would want to go back to an old version is because of the sound bug. I can not game on the current os version. most of the game that I play crash on me. It just crash and go back to the home screen without any errors. I was thinking that the Froyo version might not have the sound bug. I don't want to wait for ICS because my old games might not be compatible with it.
Yeah, what the hell make a CM6 one while your at it! lol
I don't think it's a Gingerbread thing, I think it's a Samsung Galaxy S II thing.
How about a cupcake rom? Then we won't have Google maps support or jit! No seriously, why would you want to downgrade the os? How about just a fix on our current software? This would have been relevant on a g1, but not our dual core super phone.
sent from my Epic 4g Touch
Wow this is a first. I've never seen a request to downgrade Android. As far as games go I've never had any issues with them and I play quite a few on mine. Can you name a few of the games that give you issues?

Your logic isn't sound. What reason do you have to believe this has anything to do with Gingerbread? Considering our phone has plenty of other bugs unique to it, the obvious assumption is this is a bug with our phone. One that's likely to be fixed in the next update. A FroYo ROM would just add several hundred more bugs into the mix since it wouldn't be officially supported and fully tested.
No one is gonna make a ROM just for 1 specific issue. I play games all the time no issues here.
This is the funniest request I have seen in a long time. I do give the op props though. At least he didn't post this in development section.

No cyanogen of any variety... YET. It is definitely in the works. Also should be getting ICS at some point according to Samsung.
That said, this phone is awesome even running stock Gingerbread. It is incredibly fast, the screen is amazing and I think it is far and away the best android phone you can get on Sprint. It even gives the Verizon Galaxy Nexus a run for its money. I came from the Epic 4G and have not had a moments regret.

CM9 isn't out at all yet for our phone, but there is a WORKING CM7 Kang for our phone, which has very few bugs left to work out. It'll be picked up for nightlies soon enough, then CM9 work will begin.
An ICS leak came out today that works with our phone, but no data/wifi/phone calls/etc... because of the kernel. Probably a little while out on this one, but it's coming for sure. Sprint and Samsung have already confirmed this phone WILL get ICS.
As of now, Blazer ROM is the absolute best in my opinion. Been running it since version 1.2 and it's now on 3.4. It's updated consistently, "blaz"ingly smooth & the creator PhantomHacker is a very active member in our community.
^ Plus ICS theme & a few others
So is touch wiz an unforgiving whore or is it easy to get rid of?

Aside from very minor cosmetic tweaks to the framework the vast majority of what is known as 'touchwiz' can be gotten around by installing an alternate launcher...once rooted you can just delete the apk and be done with the mess.
After coming from HTC devices I mortally feared the fail that was TW. Come to find out that this version of TW is actually pretty goddamned good. It's not thrilling, it doesn't scale with screen density changes and the aesthetic choices leave much to be desired (ugly garish icons, page-dots, app drawer button at the right side and seems unmovable). But it's not much more intrusive than a launcher and some native launcher widgets.....and is seriously extremely smooth as hell though and worth consideration--and I love ADWex and LP.
Source has been released for both...it's all in progress. The CM7 kang is my daily driver (and hauls ass) and last I heard agrabren was going to be working with the CM7 kang developer on CM9.
...and so far as not being able to make a kernel without source, umm, perhaps I am misunderstanding something, but, I didn't know there was any other way to make a kernel.

I like Touchwiz 4.0. Very well thought out. I definitely like it over vanilla and Sense.
It's simple, like vanilla, it's buttery smooth (gpu accelerated), and it has extra neat little things like notifications on lockscreen, swiping left/right (message/call default) in Contacts. Etc...
I also like TW4.0, its actually nice. There's a good selection of ROM's available, and definitely potential in the works, just takes time. We have some great developers doing awesome things.
roms are great and getting better, meaning more roms keep coming

Bounty for WebOs multitasking ported to the Galaxy s3

I am offering a $100 bounty if a developer can incorporate WebOs multitasking into a SGS3 rom. Please join in and maybe a developer will take the challenge.
For those not familiar with WebOs, it offers true multitasking and is amazing. To see what I'm talking about, watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQ30i-SqcGY&feature=youtube_gdata_player
WebOs has been ported to the Galaxy Nexus and has recently gone open source. This feature would make the sgs3 the greatest device in the world.
Again, you don't have to offer $100, but join in. I've always found that if the money is right, things get done.

Edit: There is a mod in root wiki that gives us webos like multitasking! It only works on AOKP though. It shouldn't be hard to port to TW or AOSP. The page has developer source codes and a road map to porting it. Come on developers, jump on this. Otherwise, I'll have to start pm'ing developers.. http://rootzwiki.com/topic/14167-mo...orizontal-app-switcher-011412build-17-update/
