Stable fast ROM for wife - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

What ROM is the most stable and fast ROM she likes extra features and likes touchwiz. She says here phone feels slow and wants it to go faster. Any suggestions I know I could just go flash some roms and test them but she can't go with out her phone to long
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda premium

Feels slow? With 2GBs of RAM there should be literally no slowness whatsoever. I haven't experienced a single bit of lag or stuttering
on either of the stock images. Either her expectations are just too high, she's got a defective device or she's got too much going on. So far as I hear though the AOSP ROMs seem to be a bit faster than stock, but not by much.

I found BlackJelly to be great in those aspects it also has a dark theme so that can help with battery life. (;
I've switched over to AOKP which I also find stable, smoother (more so than Touchwiz), lots of customization, and nothing but android!
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app

If she is keen on having TouchWiz, check out the threads over in android development. Inverted apps can also help improve her battery life. Lastly, custom kernels such as KT747 can aid in battery life and performance.

The phones not slow but the launcher lags big time even when installing nova or apex its weird it just started doing that. Everything else is fast

I'm just going to flash aokp and see if she likes it thanks for the replies

ICS Roms

I am about to take the dive onto a ICS rom for my GSII but there are quite a few and I want to here your guyses opinions of which is best and why and which has the fewest issues etc, battery life and you know just the works in general. I am interested in ICS Perfection II, Darkside Evolution, Black Edition, T989-NexusMod, NexusMod ICS Zero Beta 7, ICS Megamix 4.0.3, and SKY ICS UCLD2. Any opinion is nice thank you
I skipped Sky due to the more involved install. But I've found them all to be very similar. They are all fast, 90% stable and none of them have particularly great battery life.
NexusMod requires touch cwm so if you don't want that, you can X that one out too.
But none of them are bad.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
I used the perfection one for a while, it was a bit buggy and laggy but overall it was okay, then i switch to the blackened edition it was all good in rc-6 no call echo, but 7 echo came back for me, and rc-8(Experimental) im using right now its pretty decent, but im not a big fan of the theme, i seen the darkside evolution one and im very inclined to use it even tho it's only a beta AND initial release if you read thru the comments everybody seems to be having a good time with it and no issues so far
Thank you both for you input and I agree I like the Dark Side look alot aswell

I just flashed it after trying Black RC8 Experimental. Both are fast as heck. Battery life is kinda blah like I was saying so I'd keep a charger or spare battery around.
But in terms of stability and speed its solid.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
Why did you not like the Black Edition one?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
I'm just testing everything for the heck of it.
Main difference is Black has AOSP Lock screen but not 14 toggles. And Darkside has the toggles but no AOSP lock screen.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
What lockscreen does it have if not the ICS one?
I dunno but it doesn't have the built in music controls and it doesn't have the camera or home screen wipe choices. It just unlocks

It has the ICS touchwiz unlock screen. Not as good as AOSP imo.
As far as ROM's, My GF's GS2 is using perfection and hasn't had any problems at all.
I went with SKY ICS for mine. It was more work to muscle through, but for me it was worth it due to the customization options. Works really well.
I had Nexusmod for a day, and it was good too, but had a glitch where it would tell me "Swipe to unlock" on the bottom of the lockscreen evn though it was AOSP.
I reccomend Apex launcher with them though.

Best ROM for battery?

Sorry I know these are annoying. But i havent been in the E4GT forums since I got my S3. I just gave my GF my old E4GT ad it has the stock 4.0.4 ROM. So far she has gotten 6 hours of moderate use out of it. I know i got alot better at one point in time many roms were using KOBRIDGE's tweaks that seemed to help significantly. I was just wandering through a few roms and havent seen it mentioned or much for battery life. A girl is going to be using it so I was just wondering what mostly stable ROM has the best battery.
Thanks folks.

Hope we can finally get some good battery life, mine dies fast!
There really is no "best" rom, it depends alot on your usage, the kernel you choose, what tweaks and settings you decide to use, and all all around personal preference. Alot of people complain about battery on ics but I've been using aokp since tcp started porting it and my battery is just as good or better than it ever was when I ran GB, but its all about how I set it up and my usage, plus every single device is different and responds different to each rom/kernel/setting combo, even tho they are the same model phone.
We are legion, for we are many.

What is the most stable Custom ROM you have installed on your GS3?

My sister is annoyed with the battery life of her GS3 despite how good it as been next to her old iPhone and she wants to squeeze more juice out of it. She's not as tech-savvy as most people on this forum so I'm looking for something that is as stable as it gets.
Thanks in advance.

AGREE!
I have 3 GalaxyS3 in my family. 2 of them Rooted & with different ROMS... The stock gives me the BEST battery life and stability. :cyclops:
Best for me has been BlackJelly. Better than stock.
CM10 Stable.

There is already a thread asking the same question. In fact, the thread's title is almost the exact same as this one.

I've been on AOKP with the underwear kernel with phenomenal results. I very very rarely have any stability issues. Battery life is wonderful as well. Messing with governor and i/o settings can help increase battery life.
Much like others have said though, TouchWiz often leads to the best results in terms of stability and battery.

Agreed. The only issues I had with the AOKP ROM was black screen sleep death or whatever and also the screen hated to come back on when I would try to hang up a call.

I've had both of these problems as well. So small that they hardly go noticed. I've minimized the black wake screen with the voltage control settings below.
Task650 AOKP 4.1.2 JB. 11/18 Build
Underwear kernel (Intellidemand/Deadline)
I wanted to solve the same problem for my wife. I installed wanam Rom. It still looks and feels the same but it more than doubled her battery life over stock Rom. She hasn't complained since.
Ps. I wouldn't recommend putting her on cm10, AOKP, or any Aosp Rom for two reasons, she will most likely miss touchwiz features she is used to, and she will probably run into more problems with some stuff not working.

Task's AOKP ROM is the ****
Really liking Liquid Smooth. Great battery life very customizable. Second choice would be Serenity.
Task's AOKP ROM for me. Though I did have battery life problem as my phone was awake all the time. I wiped it clean and had only a few widgets, and add juicedefender app and my battery life was much much better. Maybe it's not the ROM but what your sister has on her phone?
I've got a SGS 3 now and let my wife have the SGS 2. The first day I had it I got 4 hrs and 7 minutes of screen on time on the stock ROM. That was texting, checking email and surfing the web. I don't have a lot of apps installed such as facebook etc... and I don't keep it synced to google servers. I rooted it but am sticking with stock for now. Seems to be doing well.

Overall smoothness

So my friend and I were comparing our phones he has an iPhone, and my phone would do everything faster his phone just did everything smoother, mostly we checked how games ran, his phone in game options ex: scrolling through options and upgrades was way more smooth and responsive while mine had hiccups, gameplay was the same though, but I'm curious why the iPhone is smoother scrolling even outside of its ui into games while my Hercules beats it in specs?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Its not only hardware that determines how smooth it scrolls but also the software
In my opinion the reason I think it scrolls better has to do with apples memory management because it manages ram more smoothly so that's probably why
Also did you install custom kernel on your device?
Because if you did there would be no way you would lose

lol then i actually have no idea
the only thing that i could recommend is for you to try lightning zap rom
also overclock to the fullest and put in performance mode!!!!!
Then also install the v6 supercharger but i think slimbean already has it so
i think im stumped on this one lol!
Lightening zap is a kernel. And as for performance once we officially get project butter everything should be fine then.

"The iPhone changed things by introducing a dedicated thread with high priority for handling UI rendering, redirecting all power (CPU and GPU) to handling UI element rendering in realtime based on touch input. The result? Smooth-as-butter UI elements, transitions and animations as soon as you touch the screen -- even on older hardware when paired with the latest iOS 5 software. The drawback: everything else, from app downloads to content rendering will pause so the UI can keep that high frame rate, high quality redraw pace."

I've tried every kernel for this phone and most ROMs and there are brief times when the smoothness matches the iPhone, but the consistency just isn't there..
Speed..well that's a different story there are some ROM/kernel/tweak combos that make this phone pretty darn fast

The t989 is faster than the iPhone 4s. Geekbench 2 proves that. But in terms of smoothness the iPhone will ALWAYS win. It's just the way Android is designed. iOS sets resources aside for UI transitions and whatnot and that's why you NEVER see an iPhone stutter and spurt like Android does at times. Give Android another year or so and this issue will be a thing of the past. Unfortunately the only way to resolve this with Android is better hardware... but it's coming!

Wow. I have the opposite experience. Touchwiz 4.0.4 spurts and stutters for me a lot. Add in the fact that it's nowhere near as snappy as AOSP 4.1 and I find myself constantly going back to jelly bean even though Touchwiz 4.0.4 gives me better battery life.

I'm still using jmtx1 even though there were is more current versions.
Even though ptmr3 said that adding the supercharge script was unnecessary I did it anyways just to ease my mind Lol I also added some of the battery saving mods from pmr...I keep my cpu set to ondemand/noop and slightly underclocked..and I am using the stock tw launcher ..
I think that some of the aosp ROMs out there may be slightly faster. but in my experiences they aren't as smooth as this one ..
Experiences may vary from phone to phone so there is no point in saying which ROM is better than the rest but I put my setup so someone can try it for themselves

well basically JB is the most stable ROM in my opinion that has the most support otherwise like ICS and GB don't have as much but i think that as soon as Ubuntu gets released the JB roms will be flowing like water but basically that also means that more roms will be smoother and remember that JB hasn't been officially released for our device so what there is currently is made by our awesome devs!

Not a Best ROM Thread

Had to clear that up.
I'm just interested in knowing what ROMs you guys are running, and why.
I'm not rooted yet (plan on doing that tomorrow)
but I'm looking for the most stable ROM with the best battery life.
With all of these threads and links, it's hard to keep up.
So I'm hoping to hear from the community.
I have no intentions of this thread turning into a "this ROM is better than X ROM because of Y Reason."
Just seeing what needs people have and the ROM(s) that fit those needs.
And I'm curious as to which one(s) have spectacular battery life!
Post away.

I came from a S2 which is how I learned to root. Its fun. Flashing is addictive... really. I change roms when ever one has something new and cool I just gotta try but I can truly say that JELLYBAM is the best I have used as of now.... though im always looking. If you get over the broken boot up imiage its the best I have used (not that I tried them all) I get like 20percent drain from a entire day of use
I am running ParanoidKANGdroid right now, going on closer to a week on it. I have tried CM10.1 nightlies and the newest AOKP, as well as task650's AOKP, but my favorite so far is this one. It has the most customization I've found, which I really love. My only complaints are that I don't like the camera, the "desk clock", and it's only 4.2.1. So far my favorite though

Im using Paranoidandroid, i felt like kangdroid was too bulky with too much extra stuff i didn't need/want. I like paranoid cause it seems pretty simple and smooth. But i have had some issues with random restarts, camera messing up, gallary messing up, and some other things i cant remember right now. I rooted for the first time like a week or so ago and i really like it. I just want more stability, best that i've used but im not satisfied. Plus the rom hasn't been touched since 11/21/12 so it could probably use some upgrades.
Anything is better than ATT stock JB, which sometimes drained in 20hrs.
Right now what im looking for though is a stock rom that has been stripped and streamlined. I have two things i need my phone for, Ustream/Livestream and taking pictures/video. Anything that is gonna crash unexpectedly or slow down because of so much extra junk is useless to me.

+1 I've researched almost all of the roms for our phone and i found that jellybam suits my needs. Plus i find that the mixture of ParanoidAndroid, AOKP, and Cyanogenmod is cool and makes for a lot of customization and features. It's a good rom pretty stable not much bugs or anything. And i'm also getting good battery life. I think the boot image should be fixed soon. But as with any rom it's all up to personal preference.
Battery life and stability are the two things I look for in a rom. 4.2.1 ROMs are the way to go unless you need Bluetooth streaming. Everything else has been near perfectly stable. Liquid smooth, tasks aokp, illusion and slimbean take your pick.

I am on Task650's 12/23/12 build because I use Bluetooth media streaming (mostly Audible) extensively throughout the day, in my car. The newest version of Task's ROM is nice and solid, but I can't live without BT audio.
I will commit to daily JB ROM flashing when that issue is cleared up.

Not completely sure. Not something that I use. I've read people are having problems with it. I'm sure the cyanogenmod team is working hard on it and will probably have it working in the next few weeks.

I enjoy touchwiz features too. They're not something I use everyday but I prefer being on 4.2. So many speed and battery life improvements.
Keep in mind you can usually find an app to replace touchwiz features. Like smart statusbar will allow you to show the status bar when in full screen mode.

Ive been using Task&Ktoonsez's Rom for quite a while now. hes always on top of getting things updated to the next version, and is really quick about getting bugs ironed out. if you look at the developer thread he can be a bit prickly, but his roms are great.
