ICS Roms - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I am about to take the dive onto a ICS rom for my GSII but there are quite a few and I want to here your guyses opinions of which is best and why and which has the fewest issues etc, battery life and you know just the works in general. I am interested in ICS Perfection II, Darkside Evolution, Black Edition, T989-NexusMod, NexusMod ICS Zero Beta 7, ICS Megamix 4.0.3, and SKY ICS UCLD2. Any opinion is nice thank you

I skipped Sky due to the more involved install. But I've found them all to be very similar. They are all fast, 90% stable and none of them have particularly great battery life.
NexusMod requires touch cwm so if you don't want that, you can X that one out too.
But none of them are bad.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium

I used the perfection one for a while, it was a bit buggy and laggy but overall it was okay, then i switch to the blackened edition it was all good in rc-6 no call echo, but 7 echo came back for me, and rc-8(Experimental) im using right now its pretty decent, but im not a big fan of the theme, i seen the darkside evolution one and im very inclined to use it even tho it's only a beta AND initial release if you read thru the comments everybody seems to be having a good time with it and no issues so far

Thank you both for you input and I agree I like the Dark Side look alot aswell

I just flashed it after trying Black RC8 Experimental. Both are fast as heck. Battery life is kinda blah like I was saying so I'd keep a charger or spare battery around.
But in terms of stability and speed its solid.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium

Why did you not like the Black Edition one?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA

I'm just testing everything for the heck of it.
Main difference is Black has AOSP Lock screen but not 14 toggles. And Darkside has the toggles but no AOSP lock screen.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium

What lockscreen does it have if not the ICS one?

I dunno but it doesn't have the built in music controls and it doesn't have the camera or home screen wipe choices. It just unlocks

It has the ICS touchwiz unlock screen. Not as good as AOSP imo.
As far as ROM's, My GF's GS2 is using perfection and hasn't had any problems at all.
I went with SKY ICS for mine. It was more work to muscle through, but for me it was worth it due to the customization options. Works really well.
I had Nexusmod for a day, and it was good too, but had a glitch where it would tell me "Swipe to unlock" on the bottom of the lockscreen evn though it was AOSP.
I reccomend Apex launcher with them though.

what type of roms are you looking forward to?

since we dont have a q&a section yet ill ask this here. CM7 or stock or whatever .i personally would just like to see an improved version of the stock Rom with all the optimizations. Cm7 really did nothing for me i guess a little too vanilla ...any thoughts?
I want to see all the bloat removed. I have no idea why t-mobile bloatware apps lead to download more bloatware apps. I will like to see Miui and Cm8. Hopefully Ice cream sandwich is all its cooked up to be.
I came from the SGS 4g community, and i am a big fan of Whitehawkx - Valhalla Rom, and before that i like all of Team Acids work especially dsexton702's Adrenaline Shot (although not a rom, very helpful in making virtually making an Samsung rom smoother the melted butter XD)
So something along those lines.
on a side not i read that Whitehawkx was to pick up an SGSII today and was planning to see what he can do with it so im pretty excited. plus Team Aicd says they have things in store for our phone as well.
Well im looking forward to cm7 or 8 and other roms especially getting rid of all the bloat! But i heard Whitehawkx was passing on it for prime?
Well i guess we will have to wait and see what he does.
i have never got to play around with CM but looking forward to it, and cant wait to get rid of all the bloat!
CM7 and CM8 (ice cream 4.0) is definitely a must have
Looking forward to a sense port....
I kid, I kid.
I'd just like the bloat gone and root. Some miui would be great too though.

+1 on the bloat and root. i thought i was gonna hate touchwiz but its really not that bad. im a big camera person and the worst thing about CM7 for me was the Camera app that came with it .i absolutely hate it

Id like a Rom just like the stock one but without any bloatware and lag when swiping between home screen. I would also love to have that "bouncing" effect when you reach the top or the bottom of a page instead of the light blue color.

POLL what ics ROM are you running .. on ur T989

I've been hoping around to different Roms. since the leaks came out I was on perfetion for a bit Sk ROM , Darkside . For the Longest Till Now ..
ive been running whitehawkx 5/19 +echo fix that He stopped Production on till they can Make it offical .... So What I was wondering what ROM s are people running what do they Like about them ....
whitch ones have u found with no call echo ..? and wif Calling ?

I was just trying to get people's option . I was thinking about doing some flashing .. till We See a official AOKP OR CM9 Nightly's running .. really he ROM im on only has a few perks .. im just a flash junkie though id see what other addicts out there were Flashing lol ?
I had posted this in the i727 like the stoner I am .. just looking for everyone's option on rooms and what they like it and why?
I was using Darkside Evolution beta 6 for a while.. Just flashed the cm9 build that's been in the development forum for a few weeks. I'm really liking it a lot. I don't use wifi calling so it's not an issue with me.
Sent from my Galaxy SII T-mobile using xda premium
darkside beta 6. no wifi calling and gps is pretty much useless but everything else is great. best ics dd out at the moment, imo.
I've been using skyics from the skyrocket forums. The main reasons are speed and battery life.
It's stock themed but he has a couple of battery/signal mods and there's a theme for it too.
No issues really besides wifi calling which ins't really an issue considering it's an at&t rom.
I'm using Dan Brutal ICS based on a TMo leak for about a week now and it's very good
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda premium
I've been using Darkside Evolution Beta03 ever since it came out on the 12th of May and has been great so far. The GPS works good for the most part, the only slight downside is not the best cell signal, but still good enough for my daily needs. I also like the APEX launcher that comes with the rom, I think it's better than the TW launcher that comes with the rom too. Sure there are a few bugs here and there, but I'm happy with it overall.
I'm still running darkside DW 2.5.1. Runs flawless for me.

Darkside beta 3, seems to be the only rom that doesn't have extremely low dock audio.
I tried AOKP but the screen flashing/brightness change thing was quite annoying.
waiting for a more complete CM9 like everyone else.
CM9 A3 til AOKP is back. I'm interested in Paranoid Android.
I love 18 hours battery life, theme chooser and overall smoothness.
I like changing my phones look and flashing themes and worrying about breaking a ROM blows.

Well...i really like AOKP and CM9...but theres too many issues...at least for me since i look for stability and i like to enjoy all options this fantastic device can bring me. I tried every ICS roms outhere....for me thedereckj and dan brutal ICS Roms are the best so far (my experience on my device). I have no doubt CM9 and AOKP will be at the top of the list but...sorry... no rigth know......
Btw...i ll be reading people calling Dereck's Ucle2 Ics rom as Darkside evolution beta6....thats wrong. Thats a different rom. Evolution is based on tmobile leak. Ucle2 beta 6 is based on att skyrocket leak. I know you guys already know this but if u look around posts you will find what im talking about.
Thanks ...this is just my opinion and i respect if u desagree. Please do the same.

Hello Peeps!

Im not new here because i have always looked around the forums when i had older phones. Now that I have a galaxy s 3 for tmobile, i felt the need to get on here and realize the true potential of this beast phone.Very interested in android developement and making this phone shine. Im ready for everyones input on whatever i have to say and will be all ears.
This phone shines out of the box. There is no need to worry about losing your imei anymore. So you can root and flash normally now. My opinion. Cm is losing its flavor. All the features of touch wiz are amazing and not really worth losing.

Cyanogen mod is not losing its swag. A lot of them including Cyanogen work for Samsung.

That's why touchwiz doesn't suck as much.
Still sucks though. Jk

Before doing anything you should backup your IMEI though.

I use to never flash anything besides cyanogen mod. Ever since the g1 days. I had the Htc one S and gave sense a chance for the first time and altho I never felt quite comfortable I found it pretty nice and less bloated than previous builds. I then upgraded to this beast (sgs3) and I absolutely love touchwiz. I don't see me flashing cm until most bugs are sorted out and if they add a better camera, and the touchwiz motion shortcuts which I find myself using more than I thought.
I don't see what people don't like about touchwiz. It's clean and simple which is what made me fall in love with cm. I'm sure cm probably is less bloated under the hood but I'm not ready to part with touchwiz. I'll wait for cm10 stable.

and darkside cache wipe after install

None for me. My usual DD go tos are dark side v8 and cm9 but now that cm9 gives me graphical glitches I'm down to dark side. I tried pmtr3s roms and didn't like any of them. Didn't dig the theming at all especially with the sith (what's with all these Star Wars rom names? Tdj started it. Its cool but now just plain unoriginal.) Any who so now just running dark side v8.

darth stalker #2 is the best rom no doubt. been running it for 3 days now and it super fast and stable. best battery life on any rom im tried too.
Darkside Evolution3 v8 is still the most reliable and stable imo.. if anyone needs it, they can PM me

Only had one problem with it, and of course it was when i was showing it off to an iphone owner.
Problem was I was pretty drunk and was adding pages to the home screen and maxxed them out. Went to delete them and it locked up and said touchwiz was not responding. So i just reflashed and wont be doing that again.
Cant post up the bug in the dev section yet, only a couple more posts to go.

Carbon vs liquid. Who has compared the 2

Currently using Liquid rc1 but curious about differences between it and carbon. Doesn't really seem to be much of one on the surface... Wanting to hear from people who perhaps know more about the " under the hood " differences between the two
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
I'm not entirely sure, but reading the change logs should help. And if anything, NAND and test them.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I personally had a lot of sync issues with Carbon. I switched to Liquid the other day and have really enjoyed it. I did not try the release yesterday by Carbon.
To be 100% honest, though, Team Carbon are former members of Team Liquid and the ROMs are near identical. If you try them both, it's basically the exact same layout and everything except it says " Carbon Controls" in the menu instead of " Liquid Controls".
Try then both though. It's the wonderful fallback of a Nandroid
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I actually switched about 20 minutes ago to carbon just to give it a whirl and see what is different. Aside from liquid using nova launcher, there really isn't a noticeable difference.
Carbon doesn't have any issues with lockscreen like liquid does though and that's huge for me so I think I'm gonna roll carbon for a while

This thread is not meant to be disrespectful. And if there is trash talking and inappropriate comments i would shut then thread down myself. In no way do i want the hard work that devs do for us for free to be trash talked. With that being said personally I think people are being a little too sensitive.
This thread is to discuss the only two 4.2.2 ROMs we have right now in a civil manner. I'm not asking for people to say one sucks and the other one is awesome. Just friendly mature conversation

I've tried liquid before it went RC and had a few small issues with call quality. Tried different kernel but still there. Switched to carbon and all is well. Always do full wipes before flashing and actually tried several installs on liquids. I'm really having a great time on carbon. Great ROM
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I flashed both the latest versions and there are some differences. Carbon doesn't have DPI options whole LS does. LS does have the option to decrease the size of the quick tiles. There are other minor differences as well such as placement of options within the settings menu. Under the hood, I think I read LS sticks more to CM10 coding.
In terms of performance, I can not tell the difference. Both are extremely fast. Both are extremely lightweight. You really can't go wrong with either.
What I think I'm going to do is go back and forth. I'll run the latest release of each rom and wait until who ever releases first. The devs of these rooms are unbelievably talented. Don't stick to just one rom. Go back and forth and support these devs.
I'm running LS at the moment and who ever pumps out the next build, I'm going to flash it. Really can't go wrong with either. My reason for using LS at the moment is because the DPI feature. I like having chrome and Gmail in tablet mode. But I'm sure carbon will put this feature in the next build or so. In my opinion, these are the best roms out there for the GS3. Really 1A and 1B.

I ran the liquid smooth RC... 9 I think it was? it was on 4.1.2 but never gave their 4.2.2 ROM a try before it went RC, but I had a lot of little issues with it being buggy and they just started to get to me. I eventually swapped back to cm 10 because it was more stable for my own personal experiences with it.
As for carbon, I didn't flash the first release because I wanted to watch the boards and see what issues people were having with it, but I've been on carbon since 1.1 and I really like it. It doesn't seem quite as buggy as liquid smooth did. The only exception I have to that, is the most recent release (1.4) was consistently giving me issues with regards to display timeout. It would timeout after 15 seconds (I like a short timeout) and the screen would go black, without the CRT off animation, and then it would just freeze with a faint horizontal line through the middle and the hardware buttons would still be illuminated. I could not unlock the screen or get it to turn back on, and had to pull the battery out and reboot my phone every time. I tried reflashing several times, and I continue to get the same issue so I flashed back to 1.3. No issues on this version, it runs solid.
