Btw prepare for flameage from our wonderful xda hypocrite brethren. No one on here likes open ended questions.

darkside's digital warfare imho....could get a day & a half with moderate use easily. really though, anything with gingerbread should last you at least the day with this phone

I'd say the ROM doesn't particularily matter in regard to battery life. As long as you have a rooted rom, your best bet would be to use a CPU tuner to underclock your device using usage profiles for maximum battery life.
For gb i found juggernaut and synergy. Ics kernel development is underway though so we will find out soon enough. I believe tdj released his tmobile build with venom kernel.

Darkside all the way. On ics and in gb too

TDJ roms
I have tried so many roms and always ended up installing/restoring TDJ roms.
either GB or ICS, his roms are always fast, functional and smooth daily drivers IMO.
you can't go wrong with TDJ roms. give it a try.
I suggest juggernaut for gb. It gave me on average 16-19 hrs of battery life. Darkside is really good to for ics. Although for me it hasn't given me such great battery as juggernaut. BeastMOD 5.0 is another one that in my book give the BEST battery life. I could go more then a day with moderate use.i miss it:/ lol

Any of the CM7 based roms by Eugene or Beastmod 4.0 by Melvin.
Its very subjective based on your phone, kernal used and how you use your phone. I have seen the best battery life with TDJ roms and now recently I am running Chimeria vs Hercules and batter life is pretty good.
I've been on Calkulins EGT.ROM from the get go and I loved that he was always on top of his ROM. Now that he has bailed this ROM has gotten old and outdated. I want some suggestions on what Rom I should jump to next. Right now I'm on Calkulin's E4GT v3.0 EL29 using modem FB21. Last few weeks I've been trying out different modems but none seem to work out for me. I'm in Central California if that makes a difference. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Also if this still is the best ROM available can you tell me what modem is working the best for you? I've tried so many I forgot which one was giving me the best battery life and connection.
Stay on whatever modem works best for you man, it varies area to area phone to phone.... insofar as roms I'm loving sbrissens aosp jelly bean, which is extremely stable for an alpha and a great daily driver... should you want something that's 100% more or less though I'd look into either blue Kuban or goodness, both of which are ics touchwiz based like caulks ROM...

I'm not much of a cell phone freak. I just hate that the GPS sometimes doesn't work and the battery seems to drain faster than it did before.

GPS is what it is and its just a matter of trying different modems till you figure out what works best for you... insofar as battery how old is your phone? Might be time for a new one, does it spin freely when you set it on a flat surface? And that being the case I would for sure just go with blue kuban or goodness those are probably the most stable easiest ICS ROMs we have...

Have you looked at CynogenMod10 (CM10)? I highly recommend it. It is in Alpha 5.1 right now and I haven't had ANY issues with coverage. It's super smooth, and it's jellybean.

I suggest the blu Kuban
Battery is great ,looks good..a lot of things to change to your liking
And the connection is good..he has some speed tweaks of I'm not mistaken

There is a stock rooted FH13 floating around that is nice, very normal/basic ICS. I just don't use TW.
+1 for CM10 (I also jumped from Calk's ROMs). It's very smooth and very stable as of v5.1. Minor glitches here and there with audio volume, but other than that all major issues have been resolved.
I think my phone hates the CM10JB alpha for some reason ...GPS never works and battery life is horrible, I use some tweaked stock Rom.

Which ROM besides stock gingerbread has the longest battery life?

Battery life is subjective based on use habits and what apps you have installed. However, blu kuban has served me very well, especially since the "battery life issue" (according to Samsung/Sprint) update of fh13.

Team Venum's cRaCk_StOcK is based on FH23, no probs with GPS, modem good, battery great, and it still offers that nice TW look if you want. It's a great blend of a few tweaks on a solid stock look.
As you see everyone here has different opinions of what ROM you should flash because we all have different likes or needs when it comes to what we put on our phones. I've flashed almost every ROM that's available for our phone, but I always come back to CM9.

I just picked up one of these phones to replace an original epic 4g (thing was great but after being dropped 5007 times it finally quit). I was using CM9 for a while on it but the GPS seemed flakey from time to time. As far as on this model, does GPS work well with CM9? The main things I need the phone to do without fail is make phone calls and GPS.
With that said, would CM9 be the suggested route or another basic rom?

If you want the latest software, most stable, and best battery life ROM, go with MMuzzy's AOSP ROM. Using it now, and its amazing
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
ROMs themselves rarely ever have an actual impact on battery life. Most postive effects for battery come from the kernel, and negative ones from rogue apps.
Before you ask which kernel offers the best battery, it really depends on the requirements of the user and the phone itself. You'll just have to try a few.

Flash it like you would a ROM. Make sure you find one that is for the version of android your ROM is based on. I would suggest tying Franco kernel, but there are many good ones.

FYI....this thread goes in general.
Flash kernel in cwm the same as you would have a rom. Be sure to clear cache/dalvik first.
For the moment the ROM with the best battery life is SlimRoms 2.7

I've tried many ROMs and Kernels with no success in the battery life department.
My phone charger died so I downloaded an app...Easy Battery Saver...my phone was still at 34% after 1 day and 7 hours. I was NOT heavily using my phone but still this is the best battery life I have ever experienced. I was always on the "battery saver apps are useless" team until recently.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still flashing
Just love my new app.
i tried miui, pa, vicious, aopk, smooth, and now using cm10. tried out different kernals too,but at the end, all the roms cant pass 1hr 50mins of screen time.

Hmm.. thats strange. I'm on MMuzzy's ROM which is pure AOSP and I get around 2 and a half hours of screen time. And some people around the forums have gotten around 5 hours of screen time with different combinations of ROMS and Kernels.
I have tried numerous roms, if not all of them for the galaxy nexus, and there is a difference between roms, even using the same kernel.
I have been getting amazing battery life using Eclipse.

The mods can move this thread, but in the mean time, it is a good question.
I used to get some awesome battery life. VZW + 2100mah. Typically 4 hours screen on time was normal.... now I'm lucky to get 1hr. I can't remember if it was the jelly bean update or the inclusion of Google Now.
Does letting the ROM settle really help? I have been getting terrible battery life out of my 2100mah. The battery just drains when the screen is off. No rogue apps, but this is a fresh install as of 24 hours ago

I believe use what you like as long as you use Lean Kernel you should get good battery life.

I wasn't going to put my 2 cents in but because there are so many complaints about this being in the wrong place, I just have to now.
I have tried many different ROM's and kernels and found there always seems to be the "right" combination sooner or later. Right now I am on AOKP w/Franco M6 and getting about 14 hours with 24% battery left, 2.5 hours screen time, mostly LTE and moderate phone use, best I have seen of any combo for me on this ROM. For CNA the right kernel for me was lean kernel. A little experimentation and patience and you will find that sweet spot soon enough.
Edit: the whining drew me to it, sucked me in so I couldn't stop myself from answering
If someone can get 4+ hours screen with mostly 3G, let me know. haha.
Wrong section
However as for battery life slim ROMs work great but I'm on jbsourcery built in trinity and I've definitely had worse d: the only ROM I've used that's had has battery is pa however they've had multiple updates since then so I'm sure its not horrible now

2 things here:
1) OP, wrong section. Questions belong in their own section, the Q&A section. Development is reserved for Roms, kernels, tweaks, etc.
2) If you guys see something posted in the wrong section, report it. No need to get in an internet gang war about it. Us mods have a life too and we can not be here 24 hrs a day to watch over you. When you hit the report button, we see it.
My sister is annoyed with the battery life of her GS3 despite how good it as been next to her old iPhone and she wants to squeeze more juice out of it. She's not as tech-savvy as most people on this forum so I'm looking for something that is as stable as it gets.
Thanks in advance.

I've been on AOKP with the underwear kernel with phenomenal results. I very very rarely have any stability issues. Battery life is wonderful as well. Messing with governor and i/o settings can help increase battery life.
Much like others have said though, TouchWiz often leads to the best results in terms of stability and battery.

I've had both of these problems as well. So small that they hardly go noticed. I've minimized the black wake screen with the voltage control settings below.
Task650 AOKP 4.1.2 JB. 11/18 Build
Underwear kernel (Intellidemand/Deadline)
I wanted to solve the same problem for my wife. I installed wanam Rom. It still looks and feels the same but it more than doubled her battery life over stock Rom. She hasn't complained since.
Ps. I wouldn't recommend putting her on cm10, AOKP, or any Aosp Rom for two reasons, she will most likely miss touchwiz features she is used to, and she will probably run into more problems with some stuff not working.

Task's AOKP ROM is the ****
Really liking Liquid Smooth. Great battery life very customizable. Second choice would be Serenity.
Task's AOKP ROM for me. Though I did have battery life problem as my phone was awake all the time. I wiped it clean and had only a few widgets, and add juicedefender app and my battery life was much much better. Maybe it's not the ROM but what your sister has on her phone?
I've got a SGS 3 now and let my wife have the SGS 2. The first day I had it I got 4 hrs and 7 minutes of screen on time on the stock ROM. That was texting, checking email and surfing the web. I don't have a lot of apps installed such as facebook etc... and I don't keep it synced to google servers. I rooted it but am sticking with stock for now. Seems to be doing well.
Got my S3 3days ago, rooted it the next, and now currently running "JB Wicked V7".
New to this phone and would like to knpw if any one out there knows of a kernel thats compatible with TouchWiz and has the best battery life. MANY THANKS

agreed. i've found that lean or kor kernel works best for me.
:good:
Not sure why this was bumped but in case anyone is still following along, all kernels preform differently for all devices. Your best bet is to try them all. When I have a new device it may sound weird and all, I flash the kernel with the most thread views and try them in descending order. This way you are trying what appears to be giving most people the best results and if you don't like your results ,continue your venture.
For Touchwiz I prefer however kt747 simply because Team Kernelizer has some awesome files for undervolting. The other kernels are pretty swell too.
