I have Torque which displays the speed at which the phone is going. Unfortunately, it is not calibrated properly and I'm unsure as to how to calibrate it.
I've read all the relevant threads on normal calibration (yamaha util, built-in Horiz Calib tool) but have not found one thing about calibrating the speed to 0.
Oddly enough, I did attempt to use the tools mentioned but it made it worse. Instead of being off by .5, it's now off by 2.5.
Anyone have any ideas or keywords I should be using to fix the issue?
Mostly unrelated mini-rant:

Why do we have to wait 30 seconds on the search? If I don't know the exact phrase or word, I have to waste a LOT of time trying to find anything. This is why I never berate people for asking questions over and over around here; it's almost impossible to use the search function efficiently.

Because it makes you take that 30 seconds to actually READ the results, not saying that you specifically don't, but the searcher. Who knows, you might actually find the answer amongst the myriad of results.
Again, this is not geared towards anyone, but in my experience, it has been beneficial to me to read thoroughly all the results.

If that was the case, I'd never know there was a 30 second time out on searches. I read more quickly than some others. Please note, I am not implying or insinuating that people who read more slowly than me are dumb or otherwise viewed by me in a negative light.
But when the search shows no results (as it more often than not does), then where is my recourse for efficient searching?
The nice thing is, however, when you go to post a new topic such as this one, it gives a multitude of similar threads which surprisingly works much, much better than the actual search tool. So my workaround sometimes (such as this) is to start a topic and then read through the related ones even when they're on separate boards. None of the threads presented to me had anything to do with the issue I have.
I know you put the qualifier of "not saying that you specifically don't" but your first sentence seems personal to me. Perhaps it's because of the directness of the pronoun, "you."
I just want help and help that I can actually use without having to brave the attacks and insults many people are so very eager to share here. Hence the request for keywords because I am not perfect and I may be spelling incorrectly, using the incorrect term, etc.

I apologise for your feeling offended. Again I stress that it was not geared toward any specific person. I was merely explaining my logic on why there is a 30 second rule. You asked the question, i just gave you an opinion. I guess only moderators could answer for you. Who knows I could be completely wrong.

Speed is based on GPS, there is no other way the phone can tell how fast it is going, unless you're using Torque's OBD2 connection feature. Grab the app GPS Test and see if the speed works there for you. Should be all the same, since as I said, it' GPS based. I just pulled up both Torque and GPS Test and have 0 mph.

Oh, I wasn't offended. A lot of people use the pronoun "you" when they really mean a general audience. I just wanted to make sure...on the boards, a person can't tell from text alone at times. We're all good.
@gremlyn1
Yup. Talking about Torque. After doing the horizontal calibration and rebooting a few times, it finally took and zeroed itself out.
Thanks for y'all's answers.

Nope. Its because if they let you search more frequently their server hardware would be brought to its knees. Sites enforce rules like this to limit the number of database queries.

* MODS PLEASE CONSIDER *
Double Post Sorry!!!
First off I'm Posting this in Q & A because this where I Waste ALOT my Time Trying to Help people, to just Later Find out that the Problem has Already been Solved! Lol...
I Can't even Count the number of threads I read from day to day from users that need Help of some sort with their phones, and that's No Problem! After all that's one of the many Purposes of XDA...
But anyways, after seeing how Useful the [Thanks Button] turned out I've been thinking why Not Add a [Solved Button] Also? This way people like me Won't try to Help Users that No Longer Need Help!!
I Mean it'll Save Space and Time Both! If this was Posted somewhere else I Apologize, but I Haven't come Across it!
I Really think this may also Help the Mods Close some of the Dead Threads that are No Longer being used!
Please Give Feedback...
Thank You!
I'll second that.

Now if only 100 More people Felt like us... Lol!
Moved to the appropriate forum.
I believe there is a 'Resolved' feature available to OPs in the Q&A forums. Unfortunately, it doesn't get a lot of use. Perhaps wider awareness is needed.
Also, I'm not 100% sure on this but if, when creating a new thread, you choose 'yes, this thread is a question!' tickbox at the bottom, the option for 'resolved' becomes available in all forums? That may not be correct.
I wouldn't say it was a waste of time to help someone and find they'd already found the answer, but I do agree that it can be annoying at times, especially if you're subscribed to the thread and awaiting their response or other questions.

Hi,
First of all...Don't kill me
Since a few weeks there is a upsurge of recurrent threads like "What is the best rom","What is the best kernel","What is the best rom for battery life",What is the best kernel for battery life" or "Help me to choose a (best) kernel/rom"...
There was this kind of topics 3/4 times a day in General and Q&A section...For me it gets boring every day the same threads.
There is not that the rom or the kernel that comes into account about battery life for example, but the settings, the usage,etc...But always (or almost) in these threads the reply is just "x kernel","xx kernel","x rom","xx rom",etc...without more detail...Makes no sense...
There are almost many answers as there are different kernel+all the different settings (CPU freq,GPU freq,undervolt,hotplug,etc...)+the rom used+your personnal settings (sync,brightness,widgets,wifi,etc...)+your use...,Etc...
Many of these threads have a dozen answers then they are forgotten and the OP never comes back and does not even give feedback...
What's the point?
With a little search in both General and Q&A section there are some recent threads, rather important (in term of number's reply) and detailed for it to be useful...
Why not post again in one of these threads to move up and continue the discussion into a central thread...
It's so complicated searched a bit, read existing threads, test by itself or form an opinion by reading other feedback?
There would be no threads regarding these question,ok no worries, but right now there are many, way too much this kind of topics...
These threads are very subjective as the answers and reflects nothing...Almost the time nothing is known of the usage/settings of the OP than the guy who answer, just a name of kernel or rom...
And nothing is says about "Best kernel/rom" or "Best battery life"...What does that mean exactly ...? Unspecified:nothing, therefore unnecessary threads...
Ok, we're here to help, advise and give notice but not 10 times a day the same thing especially that with a minimum of research and reading...there is a response...
Sorry for this topic,if it does not please->trash...
Just so everyone make an effort and you can not see all the time the same thing with the same answers when there is already threads...
And if you do not like... do not read ... This is what I do ,but when I naviguate in General or Q&A section...and when I see the titles of all these threads it bothers me to navigate through all these threads and to see new interesting topics between all of these topics to see 3/4 of interresting...
Thanks
PS:sorry for my English about some phrases.
Sticky please.
I 100% agree with you. Unfortunately it will never stop.

@killyouridols,yes you're right...
Each gives his opinion ...Perfect,maybe someone can convince me that I'm wrong and that this multitude of threads is not a "problem" or is not annoying
I have not asked for a sticky or anything else,I just gave my opinion on something annoying for me (and maybe for others).
Of course the mods can not do everything but a central thread would not hurt, like other threads (homescreens,pictures,benchs,etc...).

Use the search button on the top bar between "New Posts" and "Quick Links"
If any mod, including myself, continue to find new threads about topics that have threads already existing.
The thread will be locked with no notice and/or up to a temp BAN!!.
Mods, including myself, are not here to keep the forum organized after the fact, we need your help to keep it organized, clean and grouped.

Actually it's not the case, recurrent threads are still there and they are mushrooming ("ils poussent comme des champignons" ).
Of course already seen with my thread but a little reminder...There is less about like mine as there are those that I describe.
In this section we also see topics that have nothing to do...
Feel free to the mods to delete or lock this thread for convenience.
The answer is to refer them to a link with the proper discussion then report the thread as redundant and one of us mods will come and lock it.
Thanks

i agree with above me
The fact is, everyone that posts these "which _______ is best for battery/performance/stability" are usually quite new to this world. And they do not realize even a little bit that there is NO SINGLE answer to that question. Hell, there isn't even a round about general few answers to those questions. It is ALL COMPLETELY dependent on your use of device and the environment the device is in (i.e. Signal reception, apps on device, etc...) So much so that any other persons set up will usually NEVER give you the same results. People worry to much about finding "The best ______" and not enough about just enjoying the device AND enjoying the experience of the quest to find your OWN "perfect setup". And even when you DO find your own perfect set up, you are just going to keep wondering if there is something else that could make it better.
So what happens is they come here, and most likely they've SEEN these "which ______ is best", threads, BUT they see all the amounts of different responses and combinations without much details and decide "maybe if i ask I'll get a different answer catered to what I'm looking for" type of mind set. They are just confused as to the amount of different setups they saw in these other threads regarding a best set up since there isn't any details.
What they SHOULD come away from those threads thinking is something more along the lines of "Wow, there is so many different opinions on the best set up that i should just get to experimenting for myself" that is really all that they should do in the first place. It can be a bit intimidating to steyel into the development forum and see the multitude of roms, kernels, tweaks, that EACH have there own following of users that swear by them and it's easy to be lost on where to start. They don't realize that they can just choose a few things to flash and try them out, and then move along quite easily to another setup. They just don't realize how easy it is to just flash another ROM or kernel or whatever and just go at it. These users who post these types of threads are usually afraid of the prospect of bricking their brand new $500 device. Yes that risk is always present, but if it was something that happened very often due to a certain set up its something that you would have read about and info would be easily found on what NOT too use.
These types of threads will never go away unless as stated by the moderator above, REPORT(why is everyone SO AFRAID to press that report button??!!)and point the OP to a thread already established about the same thing. threads don't have to be vulgar/spam/etc... To warrant a report/deletion/maintenance....
So that's the Lesson of today. Be vigilant and report those threads if you want to see a cleaner forum. They will never NOT be posted, it's just the nature of people to want to be told what's best in a reply directed to them personally.
(BY THE WAY, can anyone tell me what's the best thread to read to find out what the best ROM/kernel setup is? Thankyou..../sarcasm )

I'm probably one of those guys that sometimes gives snarky responses. I really am trying to be nice and help the person find what they are looking for. That's 90% of the reason I post on here: I remember what it's like to not know much and to come to this community with very little knowledge.
That being said, I also hope people would follow the rules when posting, one of which is to search before starting a thread. I completely understand the complaints of people saying that there's too many threads on this site and it's difficult to find what you're looking for with search, but making a thread that's identical to an existing one is compounding the problem.
The way I try to help out with the problem is to take the time to write out a full response (not just give a link) and to (hopefully gently) point out that this topic has been covered and to look at the correct thread. I know Cnexus and I have been pretty good about this, although sometimes the deluge of MB1 update threads do make me a little short-tempered, and for that, I apologize.

But yes it is annoying when people ask / post same stuff that's been posted already 400 times before them again people should just be nice " hey man that question / concern / opinion has been posted already please search google and forums thank you "

I know that the user is traditionally at fault (the old IT adage of PBMAC - the Problem Between Monitor and Chair), but I also think it's partially the fault of the xda app on the phone. The search function on there is so woefully inept that I have only used it once or twice (and have never found what I was looking for). On the other hand, when creating a thread on the PC, the website even gives you a list of similar threads that might help you out. There are many times where I've been creating a thread and when I put in the title, a half dozen similar threads popped up with the exact answer I was looking for. I know coding this into the android app would be difficult (if not impossible), but it must be noted that almost all of the MB1 update threads had the "sent from the XDA app..." tag at the bottom. I still tell them to search before posting, but I honestly can't blame them because of the apps search function's shortcomings.
Hi
To respond to the first part about allowing abuse...we don't. But bear in mind we have 5 milllion users, 50000 new posts a day and moderators that are constantly moving questions from the wrong section, breaking up childish nerd fights, responding to reported posts, investigating kang issues, and trying to have a job, family and life. We are not reading every post that enters XDA. We respond to reports by users. And every mod action requires several minutes of "paperwork" to document what was done.
Now to the post about searching, yup app search stinks, however if you switch to browser view there are more search options available as well as googling and adding XDA in the search parameter. The phone is quite large so searching through browser view or just with google is a lot easier than in days past.

What's frustrating is all of these rule quoters that do nothing but add to the spam. Just answer the question then point them in the right direction or just ignore the post...
There is a saying you can led a horse to water but you can't force them to drink. But if can shoot the f*cker if he is too stubborn
I know sometimes when I was new to this forum (i am not a developer), I would get irritated when posting a question and you would see a lot of "views" but no replies/posts with any help. But you have to realize (as I did), as smart as these guys are, sometimes, nobody knows the answer to your question! So posting "crickets crickets" or something else snarky to that effect won't help you get an answer either. Most people are nice enough to help and will either post a link that you may have overlooked, or a real answer (or at least acknowledge your existence)...so in that case just be patient for an answer. Alot of the times when you google search, maybe you did not type in just the right terms and didn't get the link you were looking for.

If they were really being anal about the rules then that link would take you to www.google.com and you'd be on your own for the search terms - be grateful that they held your hand as much as they did

What's frustrating is all of these rule quoters that do nothing but add to the spam. Just answer the question then point them in the right direction or just ignore the post...

If we just answer the question, we encourage further infractions... It would be kind of like banks taking a policy of giving money to anyone who threatens to rob the bank - we would have more robbers, not less...
Ignoring them almost inevitably leads to more noise from them, not less, so that won't fix their broken understanding of the rules...
But if we add to that spam now, there is a chance that someday, maybe it will end... It isn't likely, but I would rather have the rules on my side
I don't enable people to hide behind excuses - every search on the Internet isn't broken, they just require a little effort (almost as much effort as creating a new post, lol)

How about just showing people how well searching works and provide them proof of it's efficiency by linking them to your search results. This both; enlightens the user of search functionality, while also assisting them with their question.
I just flashed a TW rom yesterday with the 4.1.2 release, and now have multi-window.
The thing is, it only has about 10 or so apps in it. How do I add more apps to it?

I did, but came up with this;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060050
It only specifies certain roms, which the one I have isn't on the list (jovi's newest).
Anyway, thanks.

Unfortunately, and it has been noted in many other threads on different forums about the search function on XDA......:
The "Search" function on this forum is one notch up from a shot in the dark and many users have been chastised "Use the search before".....
That's so uns, man! using the search is just about a waste of time!
Google search from OUTSIDE the forum finds stuff better than the "search" of this board... Those individuals that spend their life on this board and know where everything is, and where everything "should be posted" need to develop a new life.... Playing in the streets is a good start!
just my 2 cents

You're both missing the point here, and it is prolly my fault. The point I was trying to make, is that the "SEARCH" engine really needs to be somehow upgraded so that it actually finds what is being searched for. I appreciate the good intentions of giving a user a link to locate anything, but adding the "use search" after that given tidbit detracts woefully from the good intentions. Seems like a scolding after a cookie is offered to a child. Give the info, and reserve the "use......." comments SURE IS A MORE PLEASANT APPROACH, don't you agree? That makes for a much more pleasant forum attitude and makes for a warmer atmosphere in this forum. Same with when a user posts a question in the "wrong" place, it's easy for Moderators to MOVE the thread and just leave it at that... No need to reprimand with a comment of "post in the right place" etc.... We are all in the same boat here, and are or maybe it would be nice to think we are in a concerted effort to have all of us come out with a gain..... So, please come back in from the street, and it's a good thing there was no traffic!
Sorry, was not trying to offend anyone, but make a small point.

You know id have to agree. At least with stating "wrong thread" or "search". I always see the mods post their own warning when they move the thread. So why waste space with a redundant post when its easier to report and not take the job away from the mods. As a hint. I search in google with these key words " xda and my search terms. " that way If I'm specifically looking for something on xda I get only xda related searches.

It's true that Google search works better than XDA search.
I don't report things every time cause the mods have a life too and considering almost every thread created has been discussed before, they'd be busy for ever. I can usually find 5 threads already made for a new subject by searching... nothing was confused with your last post, you said people should have things handed to them and not reminded of the rules, and then to go play in the streets if you know where things are in this forum lol. His question was in the Dev thread only 5 post back from the top, he simply didn't look that time.

Have to agree about search button not working as expected here. I sure do use google to search on xda, lol.
I too really hate when mods ask you to "search" after you already searched but most times people dont search before asking usually. I do understand the point about rules, but, man, I have a couple of devices, very common devices, which threads could contain thousands of post and most times search wont bring a relevant answer. I end up reading a whole lot. In the end I would find my answer, or not.
What I mean is that is easier to ignore a stupid question if you dont want to help that helping and then telling to search, so in a way you are telling them lazy without really know if they used the defective search button.

At the same time they are creating a thread thats going to the top thats sometime useless and we might not spot someone else who really needs the help.basically its a large community with every phone available, you have a pouplar phone meaning you better get ready to read a lot through pages comes with the territory. Use Google and to be honest if m3tg or anyone else decides to help someone that person can choose to say what he wants ,bottom line this thread should die we can go back and forth forever.

I search fine, I don't know if I have more patience or what but when I have a question I find it. It does need work but not that hard to try 3 to 4 different key word combinations, and than post what you tried to search for and an elaborate explanation of what you want. Not this thread, but a lot of threads go like this
Need help
How do I root.
Those get posted all the time, and that's just ridiculous. Most are around the same context, "flashed this rom, now it won't boot" or " what's the best rom" those are the most common, and I've made resource guides for a reason, and a couple q&a threads, they could use more work on the OP I know, but it's a great place for people to start asking those questions, there are plenty of stickies for people to not make mistakes and read before having a brick, or making lazy new threads. Simple as that, that's why mods ask for them ti search. Again none of this is towards Kamau54, just in general towards the whole threads "not searching" thing.
@executioner I wanted to see if anyone would actually report a useless thread, lol. People don't have to be a RC to report useless threads that should be dead, they just like to chime in about it.
Now to enjoy my day off of work and have Sunday Funday.
