* MODS PLEASE CONSIDER *
Double Post Sorry!!!
First off I'm Posting this in Q & A because this where I Waste ALOT my Time Trying to Help people, to just Later Find out that the Problem has Already been Solved! Lol...
I Can't even Count the number of threads I read from day to day from users that need Help of some sort with their phones, and that's No Problem! After all that's one of the many Purposes of XDA...
But anyways, after seeing how Useful the [Thanks Button] turned out I've been thinking why Not Add a [Solved Button] Also? This way people like me Won't try to Help Users that No Longer Need Help!!
I Mean it'll Save Space and Time Both! If this was Posted somewhere else I Apologize, but I Haven't come Across it!
I Really think this may also Help the Mods Close some of the Dead Threads that are No Longer being used!
Please Give Feedback...
Thank You!
I'll second that.

Moved to the appropriate forum.
I believe there is a 'Resolved' feature available to OPs in the Q&A forums. Unfortunately, it doesn't get a lot of use. Perhaps wider awareness is needed.
Also, I'm not 100% sure on this but if, when creating a new thread, you choose 'yes, this thread is a question!' tickbox at the bottom, the option for 'resolved' becomes available in all forums? That may not be correct.
I wouldn't say it was a waste of time to help someone and find they'd already found the answer, but I do agree that it can be annoying at times, especially if you're subscribed to the thread and awaiting their response or other questions.

sorry to complain, and this is not a hit on any of the hard work of the developers here, but this site is extremely hard to find any useful information or download any roms off of. I mean honestly, do I need to browse through 800 pages of posts on a single thread to find answers to problems? do you even realize how much redundancy is going on? and all the developers pushing donation requests in your face is kind of annoying. the forum idea was not a good choice to organize the heaps of info on this site. just my opinion, go ahead and flame away...

First off, there will be no flaming. Secondly, I see a lot of complaining, but very little in the way of helpful suggestions.
I would recommend that you don't waste your time reading through hundreds of pages of each thread. There is a search function that will search each thread, each forum, or the whole site. Learn to use those tools and you'll find that the information isn't as hard to find as you thought at first.
Here's a little tip regarding roms. I've got a HTC vox so i go to the vox section and lo and behold, Roms
A suggestion for the mods while i'm here. Can you make the quick reply box "active" so users can post a reply without have to click on the little thing?
Even the little click is too much for you?
I think you are a lazy men... and yes I agree it is in chaos!!! but with this thread is worst why cause its posted before... click a little on the little thingy you have said and type.... Chaos forum... many many threads about it...
Think about it a few seconds... would you able to enjoy this chaotic site... hahahaha I DO!
dont think just enjoy helping people and making this ****in devices even better than yesterday.
BYE.

There is a very good reason why QR is broken. The site admin is aware of it.
Ta
Dave
the main reason is to stop spamming Bot , the bots werent or arent that intelligent to press the QR button and then post, but still they spam with diff User ID's
I have noticed that there is a large amount of double posting & people simply not following the rules in this section. There is like one moderator for that section & he is a developer, and of course spending his time on that, all of the rest are retired.. We need more mods there (At least two of them)
So please add a some mods there, I would even be more then happy helping out. It is just needed..

Pulser has brought the issue to our attention, and I can assure that within a week or so there will be significant improvement.
@All: As the clown said, please use the Report Post option for threads that need to be dealt with. All Senior and Forum mods are notified when reports come in, so someone will act swiftly.
Just so everybody knows...I started moderating this forum a week ago...and I am doing my best to keep up with things...and I would say I am doing a pretty good job so far.
I agree with the OP things are bad right now but we are working to change that.
If you want to help send me a PM with anything you see that I can help with.

Okay, Thanks!
I tried to PM mikechannon about the issue that is still occurring on the Vibrant forums.
Instead of it getting better, it seems to be getting worse..
"There is constant flaming/off topic going on there. I have posted about this issue before, and the MOD's just said to report those post.
Even though I have been reporting those post that contain cursing/advertising/off topic/spam/etc they some how don't seem to get moderated.
In some threads there have been several "Clean Up's" yet there still seems to be flaming & off topic.. Once again :/
I know there is one moderator that is for that section specifically (Krook6023) and there is sometimes another moderator that comes around, I can't think of his name at the moment.."
Is there any more we can do?

The latest Android sections are a mess, plain and simple. The sheer number of users with Galaxy devices in general is a lot. We have many mods scattered throughout the site who are not online 24/7, so if we don't catch something, simply report it and be patient. We cannot stop the flaming from happening, but we do our best.
We see all Reported Posts, no exceptions but we evaluate the severity and act based on it.

I wouldn't mind helping out..
There is something really common on xda that make it annoying to read topics and create huge topics with tons or pages, it's the members useless posts.
Usually a dev post a new hack/rom/kernel etc...
And some member post to say thanks instead of using the thanks button
Others complain about something not working even if the OP said it wouldn't work
And then you have the members that answer to the one complaining that he has to learn to read but instead of having one member saying this there is always like 5 members doing it
So I'm requesting a down vote or something similar that would hide or delete the usless posts in a thread to make it smaller and easier to read and could help lighten the xda database
Thanks!
(just kidding)
This needs to be seriously considered by the mods - will make life better for all of us.
would be nice if goes to happen
that is a great idea.
i guess we can say thanks here
Not exactly what you are looking for, but we added an easy way to obscure posts by folk on your ignore list. So, if there are one or two posters in a thread that are generating lots of useless posts in your view, click their name and choose to add them to your ignore list.
The ability to minimize or in other ways hide post with less information (e.g. post of people saying thanks, or posts with questions which has been answered) is very useful, especially for threads with high activity, such as the cyanogen thread and ICS sdk thread in i9000.

Ignoring an user for some posts will make us miss all the good ones he might post and having to ignore half of the posters on a topic doesn't seems to be the best
While having the possibility to vote to hide/delete would be better
Could we have a straight answer ?!
0 no, maybe it will happen...

This needs to happen. It would make XDA a way better place. Everyone needs to put a link to this thread in their sig like I did....we need more attention in this thread so that this idea gets pushed to the top of the list.

I'm 50/50 about the idea. I can see the benefit, but I can also see it being abused. Either way, your enthusiasm doesn't change the fact that no-one has posted here for over 3 months. I'm guessing that there's not too much interest in it.

Whether 1 or 1000000 people request it makes no difference. If it's doable and beneficial then it may well happen....

Hey, I really hope I'm not missing something here, but here goes. When I first started reading XDA it was maybe June... by later in the year I really wanted to post my ideas or some useful scripts I've made. Unfortunately whenever I tried to even respond to a ROM thread, I got that 10 post error. I guess it makes sense, seeing as there's probably a lot of garbage an unsuspecting newbie can post to a thread. But anyhow, today when I realized I have posted (exactly?) 10 posts, I'm still unable to respond to the dev section or make threads. And it's kind of unnerving. So where would I attempt to find the information on:
1. How to post in those threads when you meet all prerequisites
2. How to become stated as "Member" as opposed to "Junior Member"
3. And.. ... how to get a signature... even though that's less important.
I really hope I'm not missing protocol here.. I searched around and there were some old vague threads that didn't help much. I used good keywords, I do web SEO as a service so I think I searched hard enough. :/
Any help is definitely appreciated.

It should be automatic, it might just take a few hours for the system to put you into a new user group.
You go from "Junior Member" to "Senior Member" when you get 100 posts.
Thanks . The dev forum allows my posts now, which is good. And I am a Junior Member still but that makes sense, it's not like I'm a longtimer on the XDA forums. Also, how can I get my signature going? I always enjoy having a signature.

Man I like this forum but don't at the same time.. I love the fact there's so much stuff on here that's so helpful to everyone but at the same time the people on here are 50/50 meaning about 50% you are nice and do realize a beginner has to start somewhere and learn as they go and are willing to help as much as possible you also realize you were once there yourselfs mean while there's the other 50% forget they where beginners and noobs at one point and still think that everyone shouldn't ask questions and automatically think you know the answer as well as give rude and smart butt answers or links... uncalled for is about the best way to describe those answers its amazing that the admin allow these people to give rude and uncalled for comments but when someone responds with a rude or smart butt comment that person either gets a warning or banned and the other person gets nothing kind of interesting to me .... everyone should be treated fairly and evenly .. but had to say something from a lot of posts I've been reading

I'm probably one of those guys that sometimes gives snarky responses. I really am trying to be nice and help the person find what they are looking for. That's 90% of the reason I post on here: I remember what it's like to not know much and to come to this community with very little knowledge.
That being said, I also hope people would follow the rules when posting, one of which is to search before starting a thread. I completely understand the complaints of people saying that there's too many threads on this site and it's difficult to find what you're looking for with search, but making a thread that's identical to an existing one is compounding the problem.
The way I try to help out with the problem is to take the time to write out a full response (not just give a link) and to (hopefully gently) point out that this topic has been covered and to look at the correct thread. I know Cnexus and I have been pretty good about this, although sometimes the deluge of MB1 update threads do make me a little short-tempered, and for that, I apologize.

You fine man I understand the rules and read them so I know personally to search before asking and when posting make sure its in the right section.... as far as posting links example I was referring to about smart butt links is the google one I've notice is when you click on link takes you to google it automatically writes in the question the person would ask then at bottom it would say " now was that so hard " kinda funny but smart butt to I'm its a simple question that person could of easily just said hey man look please go read the forum rules and make sure you post in the right section simple and nicely said you know
But yes it is annoying when people ask / post same stuff that's been posted already 400 times before them again people should just be nice " hey man that question / concern / opinion has been posted already please search google and forums thank you "

I know that the user is traditionally at fault (the old IT adage of PBMAC - the Problem Between Monitor and Chair), but I also think it's partially the fault of the xda app on the phone. The search function on there is so woefully inept that I have only used it once or twice (and have never found what I was looking for). On the other hand, when creating a thread on the PC, the website even gives you a list of similar threads that might help you out. There are many times where I've been creating a thread and when I put in the title, a half dozen similar threads popped up with the exact answer I was looking for. I know coding this into the android app would be difficult (if not impossible), but it must be noted that almost all of the MB1 update threads had the "sent from the XDA app..." tag at the bottom. I still tell them to search before posting, but I honestly can't blame them because of the apps search function's shortcomings.
Hi
To respond to the first part about allowing abuse...we don't. But bear in mind we have 5 milllion users, 50000 new posts a day and moderators that are constantly moving questions from the wrong section, breaking up childish nerd fights, responding to reported posts, investigating kang issues, and trying to have a job, family and life. We are not reading every post that enters XDA. We respond to reports by users. And every mod action requires several minutes of "paperwork" to document what was done.
Now to the post about searching, yup app search stinks, however if you switch to browser view there are more search options available as well as googling and adding XDA in the search parameter. The phone is quite large so searching through browser view or just with google is a lot easier than in days past.
In most cases like with football, the person throwing the last punch draws the penalty. It takes 2 to argue but just one is needed to keep it going.
Thanks

I don't care about noob questions. what make me mad is when there is 5 "what is the best rom" threads on the first page. Stuff that you could easily flip through a couple pages and find an answer to is what angers me.

The only thing I find aggravating here or ANY forum is the word "respect". Much respect......have respect......yo bro respect to this guy or that guy! What freakin ever! We aren't 1% bikers here. So why are we throwing that word in every sentence. We are all men amongst men(or women). Respect is a given. Let's quit with the manzy panzy complaints and start tweaking our phones to the fullest.
Just my two cents.......do I need a paypal for that? LMAO!]

You say that, but you'd be surprised at some of the things I see posted here every day
And its difficult NOT to take offense when you find your mental capacity, ability to do something, or your integrity insulted. And the majority of the time, people will attack one of above

The only payment they get is that lovely thanks button at the bottom of every post.
Oh forgot about the most important perk of being a mod

What's frustrating is all of these rule quoters that do nothing but add to the spam. Just answer the question then point them in the right direction or just ignore the post...
There is a saying you can led a horse to water but you can't force them to drink. But if can shoot the f*cker if he is too stubborn
I know sometimes when I was new to this forum (i am not a developer), I would get irritated when posting a question and you would see a lot of "views" but no replies/posts with any help. But you have to realize (as I did), as smart as these guys are, sometimes, nobody knows the answer to your question! So posting "crickets crickets" or something else snarky to that effect won't help you get an answer either. Most people are nice enough to help and will either post a link that you may have overlooked, or a real answer (or at least acknowledge your existence)...so in that case just be patient for an answer. Alot of the times when you google search, maybe you did not type in just the right terms and didn't get the link you were looking for.

Ok I'm going to be the other "other" 50% whose pet peeves is when people author forum posts with little to no punctuation, commas, apostrophes, structure, periods, capitalization, etc.

as far as posting links example I was referring to about smart butt links is the google one I've notice is when you click on link takes you to google it automatically writes in the question the person would ask then at bottom it would say " now was that so hard " kinda funny but smart butt to I'm its a simple question that person could of easily just said hey man look please go read the forum rules and make sure you post in the right section simple and nicely said you know

So it bothers you that they held your hand instead of spoon feeding you the answer? Talk about first world problems... If they were really being anal about the rules then that link would take you to www.google.com and you'd be on your own for the search terms - be grateful that they held your hand as much as they did

If we just answer the question, we encourage further infractions... It would be kind of like banks taking a policy of giving money to anyone who threatens to rob the bank - we would have more robbers, not less...
Ignoring them almost inevitably leads to more noise from them, not less, so that won't fix their broken understanding of the rules...
But if we add to that spam now, there is a chance that someday, maybe it will end... It isn't likely, but I would rather have the rules on my side
I don't enable people to hide behind excuses - every search on the Internet isn't broken, they just require a little effort (almost as much effort as creating a new post, lol)

How about just showing people how well searching works and provide them proof of it's efficiency by linking them to your search results. This both; enlightens the user of search functionality, while also assisting them with their question.
