Hello All,
My brother just bought a SGH-T889 from T-Mobile and would like to get it all juiced up. I myself own an SCH-i605 (Verizon GN2) and am rooted, bootloader unlocked, and am running CleanROM 4.0.5 w/Perseus 30 kernel. I have some questions regarding how to proceed with the T-Mobile Device:
Quick Note: I have already Rooted my brother's SGH-T889 and have TWRP up and running as his recovery. He is running stock ROM w/Root.
Question 1: Does T-Mobile have a "locked bootloader" on the SGH-T889 like I did on my Verizon SCH-I605? If so, how do I unlock it?
Question 2: Does anyone know of a ROM that is similar to CleanROM for the SGH-T889? To my knowledge, that ROM isn't supported on T-Mobile. CleanROM provides the overall stock experience less the bloatware with some additional mods. Note: My brother purchased an 64GB MicroSD Class 10 SanDisk card that I plan on running the app2sd script on (using SManager), so the ROM must support the exFAT 64GB formatted card. I know some ROM's do not offer 64GB compatibility, so that is something I need to be weary of. Perseus Kernel support would also be great.
Thank you so much!

CleanROM ACE works on my SGH-T889 with no problems. I also use the Perseus T889 Kernel, which is great.

I used the CleanROM "ACE" (All Carrier Edition) found in the AT&T forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1986893
Nothing special to install, just made a nandroid backup through CWM, did a factory wipe, and flashed with CWM.
This is the version of Perseus Kernel that I used :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1960935
From what I have read, it would be advisable to backup your EFS partition first as explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2026749

Can anyone else confirm that you do not need to "UNLOCK" the Bootloader on the T-Mobile variant of the GN2?
I did not have to unlock bootloader. And am running cleanrom at&t on my t889. Working perfectly and has great battery life.

Samsung Note N7100 PIT File
Good Day !
I have a Samsung Note N7100 with a strange problem.
I did a hard reset on it and it started acting up.
Now, it cannot go into RECOVERY Mode ( VOLUME UP+ HOME BUTTON + POWER BOTTON )
When i try to turn it into Recovery Mode , the Display comes with FLICKERS .
Moreso, when it is turned on , it comes on with Flickering Display.
But it does go into DOWNLOAD MODE without problems.
I have tried flashing it with different ODIN Versions and FIRMWARES downloaded here on XDA and Samobile but di not help. Error Message : No Partition Files Found .
Basically , i would appreciate it if i can have a link to download a PARTITION File for Note N7100 or any Professional Advice .
Best regards.

Sounds like eMMc chip failure that was found occasionally on many variants of the Note 2. May need a chip replacement. You can certainly continue to try to repair it through flashing and software, but if the chip is fried, you could look to this link for repair... http://www.mobiletechvideos.com/samsung-galaxy-note-2/
Or you may just choose to accept that your phone is now a 3 year old model and just get a new one. Good luck!

Doesn't look like mskip has added i317 model yet.
I flashed CWM 6 for i317 and installed superSU 0.97 via CWM. It seemed to do the trick.
Be wary that the phone not only counts flash attempts, but also has a flag for whether the phone has been modified. If the phone is flagged you will lose the ability to do OTA updates.

i'm with Rogers, but from my limited knowledge the big three Canadian carriers are using the i317 model?
You can grab the i317 cwm recovery from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901196 - scroll down to "first upload(2012/09/23)"
you can grab supersu cwm flash zip from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 - third link under download
again i warn you that you can't ota update after this, but getting rid of rogers bloatware through titanium backup was much more worth it for me for the time being :d.
Perhaps you can tell me this, are there any ota updates out of the box? Or is it updated already?

Would you recommend this root process, or do you think it best to wait for mskip to post an update to add 317 support to his tools? I have rooted many an android tablet, but have never had to deal with a phone before. Why no OTA updates after achieving root? I noticed people passing their #1234# on, does this mean that we are overwriting our EFI partitions which hold some of our unique identifier number, etc. As I said, I'm not used to the phone partition structure, or the use of odin, but have spent quite a bit of time in adb and cwm.
Cheers
EDIT: Sorry, I just reread your post and noticed the quote about the 'modify flag', and then being denied OTA updates. Stupid me, I then decided to go to the source, Triangle Away, and found out it is related to the counter in a hidden boot block. Ignore basically everything I had asked, I know better than to post without searching first. Sorry.
I just got mine from Rogers today. Am with Virgin, and since Virgin is owned by Bell (or Virgin uses Bell network), I took my sim from iphone and put it in GN2 and it worked instantly.
Let me know if you need any info...
Im an anroid noob, so need to do some research before I root. I dont have ANY bloatware, so thats not an issue.

-Reboot device to download mode
-Open odin and select downloaded file for PDA tab (cwm6-recovery-i317.tar.md5)
-Connect device to PC, and wait till device successfully added to com port
-Flash
then again
-Reboot device to download mode
-Open odin and select downloaded file for PDA tab (cwm6-root-note2.tar.md5)
-Connect device to PC, and wait till device successfully added to com port
-Flash
Then that should root and install supersu?

The second part no! Do the first part you mentioned. But put superuser97.zip in root of phone first! Then reboot into cwm vol up/home and power together then let go at boot screen. Then flash the superuser97.zip via cwm done

Thanks that worked perfect.
I did actually do the second part (before you replied) but just reflashed with recovery and all is well. ...I think.
Is there a good FAQ somewhere? I have looked at a couple but they seem device specific. My questions are regarding the actual root then ROMs. I would imagine that since a ROM changes the entire OS, it must change the root? Or once the stock rom is rooted, they all are? Stupid noob questions, that im sure a FAQ would answer.
Cheers, and thanks again!

Hi turilo,
I apologize for the noob questions - I'm new to the Andriod ecosystem and I just got a Note 2 (Rogers) and have a couple of questions.
1. You rooted your device and what exactly did that accomplish? It appears you were able to get rid of the Rogers bloatware. So all the red colored Rogers app icons and software are gone? What else is the benefit of rooting your device in particular? Is it faster and the battery lasts longer? Please be as specific as you can.
2. Did your device retain all the TouchWiz and S-pen funtionality after being rooted? In other words rooting did not make your phone a pure Andriod system? I also have a Google Nexus 7 and can see differences in the OS compared to the Note 2, so I'm assuming the differences are "enhancements" (depending on your perspective ofcourse ) that Samsung put in.
3. As someone else mentioned, now that you will not be able to get updates OTA, does this mean that when Samsung releases the update to allow multi window or any other update for their software, you won't get that automatically? Is this not something to be concerned about? I would want to get any updates to the S-pen or TouchWiz for instance.
4. Does the above also mean that when Android 4.1.2 becomes available, you will have to update your device manually using some archane process? ie, you won't be able to do this simply from the Settings menu and click on update software?
5. Last noob question - for Andriod idiots like me (I'm a little bit techy - I jailbroke my iPhone back in the day, but would rather not root my Andriod phone unless the benefits outweigh the disadvantages - get rid of Rogers bloatware, keep the Touch Wiz and S-Pen functionality, improved battery life, faster processing etc), can you point to a link that explains how to do this for Andriod dummies?
Thanks!
after installing this themeto my rooted phone, the phone will no longer recognize my sim card
after rooting phone and sim worked just fine
no problems until I installed this new theme
Poppuri Simple Theme Edition Transparent Version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1967594
I love the theme but for some reason it doesnt recognize I have a sim card installed.
did i accidentally fry my SIM during installation?
or are there some settings for AT&T I need to make?
any help/direction would be appreciated
thanks
and to make matters worse CWR cant find my backup file.
so I am stuck with this theme and no SIM/service.
how do you go back to stock?
or fix the sim issue?
PLEASE
back to stock
what is the best way to get back to out of box condition? (if I cant get the sim issue resolved)
I have tried a few stock root updates through ODIN and I keep getting errors. I think its because the firmwares are diffrent regions than my origonal USA AT & T.
please
thank you
Jon
ok seriously, I'll pay $$$ to anyone who can help me fix this
If anyone can help me fix this I will pay pal you $50
You flashed a ROM that's intended for international note 2 (N7100) on your US variant note 2 (N7105). There's your problem. The modem for US phone is different than international since US has LTE and International doesn't.
What you need to do is..
Go to samfirmware.com
Create an account and search for AT&T US N7105 note II firmware and download it.
Go into download mode on your phone and use odin to flash the firmware into your phone. And next time if you're going to flash something make sure it was made for the phone you're using.

This the method I used for rooting when I had 4.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2611175
Check my signature for a link to how I rooted with 4.4.2
Depending on the version of Android you have on that phone, it will trip the Knox flag. Which won't affect the performance of the phone, but will indicate you messed with your phone. There may be other rooting methods that work, but this one worked for me.
BTW, I found that method by using Search on this forum and Google.

The safe root method is how i rooted with 4.3 but it is my understanding that you need your phone to be unlocked to use a different carrier. Unlocked and rooted are 2 different things.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Unlocked sop I can use whatever carrier I want.
Rooted Because I want control over my pohone and not somebody else saying what I can and cant do with it.
I can get it to bot in cwm recovery but thats all it won't rot the rom so I can see it its rooted or not. I followed eth entire instructions provided and used oden like it said to and all I suceded in doing was makeing a damn brick out of a phone I got to have running tomorrow morning

If you can get into Download mode (Power Off, then Volume Down+Power Button), then you'll need to download the Stock Rom and transfer it to your phone via ODIN. Do you know if you were 4.2, 4.3, or 4.42 before you bricked it? You can download the images from Sammobile.com

If you have access to ClockWork Mod Recovery, wipte the cache and dalvik and see if that lets it boot.
If not, just download a rom, any rom from the dev section that you want to try and put it on a micro SD card. Put the SD card in your phone.
Do a full wipe (data, system, cache, dalvik) in recovery and flash the downlaoded ROM file. Your phone should boot right up.
You'll want a TouchWiz based rom if you still need to perform the SIM unlock proceedure so you can use it on the Cricket network. But once step at a time here...

I finally got the phone rooted but I screwed it up so bad I had to install a different rom to make it work, so not I'm roted and running wicked rom .Next I installed, updated and ran region away, it said it didn;t know if it worked or not, but I was told that it does unlock so hopefully it did.
I havea different S4 here ( SGHM919) that I'm gonna try the cf auto root on when the battery is fully charged, cause both my sons have S4's and they want to keep the rom they have now just be unlocked
If you were looking at cwm recovery then you most likely have root.

And if you don't you can easily get root with CWMrecovery

When I used Region away it says somewhere that it doesn't unlock your phone to where you can use other carriers. So you might want to find out lol

Thank you gentlemen, my phone is working again, rooted, currently running wicked rom, all the other phones are rooted with the stock roms for the kiddies unless they want to have a better rom
Region away works perfectly on mine even though it says it doesn't know if it did.
I was going to use triangle away, but it says something about bricking my phone and I really don't give a damn about the counter so ........
PanchoPlanet, Google is NOT my friend when it comes to phones XDA id my friend when it comes to phones
Now to go look for the stock memo pad that comes with the S4, I like that one best its simple and works
I too prefer Memo Pad, it's quick and simple, my reference to Google was that its quicker than the XDA search and more accurate. Good to hear your back on track.

I found Smemo on line, took a while since I'm on oxycodone for pain due to a hernia operateing, but I got it, placed it in eth rom and reflashed it
Now I'd love to find a theme for Wicked V10 that would change teh color of the phone dialpad, I HATE white dialers, makes me remember when I was a kid back in teh 60' when my mom had nothing but white so she could see if it was clean, and sanitized, degermed, and all that, ( yes I was an outside type, and brought it all inside )
Oh and all I can say guys, is thanks for trying to help me I WILL figure it out for the firmware and hardware and software that I have, experimenting with a phone that I totally bricked today, gotta re-instal the entire os on it, so I'm gonna experiment with various versions of the SGH-M919 software, if I find out what works on what I'll post it for you guys to check and make sure I did right

Thank you so much.
I bricked my cousin's SIII (T-Mobile) yesterday and tried this method.
It worked
Thanks again.
Baffled
I hard bricked a friends SGH-T999V. I had successfully installed CWM and may have flashed it with an incorrect bootloader that I came across on the forums.
I have tried all debrick images on the thread using both the linux and the windows method. I verified and the 23 partitions get created. Tried it a few times with each image on the thread but have had no luck getting the phone to boot. I am currently using a 32gb - Class 10 sdcard.
Been at it for 14+ hours (spread out over 2 days). The S3 was running stock 4.4.2 prior to getting hard bricked.
I appreciated any help with this.
Really depends on what was on the device before flashing. But not all sd cards will work. Try using different ones.

Thanks. I will try another SD card.
Prior to the flashing, the phone was running stock 4.4.2 and all I had done in addition was install CWM d2tmo.
You will need a 4.4.2 debrick.img then. I've got one here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95747613655049000
Do you remember which build the firmware you were running was? This image is NF1. If you had something different or newer, it will not work. If you had updated to NH2 for example, you will have to have an image from a device running NH2. Nothing else would work.
I don't believe there is an NH2 debrick.img though. We'd have to find someone willing to make it. (Easier said than done lately.)
Anyway, if you were running the NF1 build, the image above should work just fine.

Doc,
I bricked my SGH-T999N with a ROM for the T999L. I had Android 4.1.2 prior. Can you send me the debricker?
After I put the image on the MicroSD and insert it into my phone it doesn't boot. I am using a Class 4 16 GB microsd card. T-999 Tmobile USA. Any help?
4.4.2 NF1 Debrick
I've managed to Hard Brick my phone and am in a similar position as balcony was. I'm using a Wind GS3 SGH-T999V and used Mobile Odin Pro to flash the Wind variant of 4.4.2 (T999VVLUFNF1_T999VYVLFNF1_GLW) Stock on my phone to be able to fix a CM11 GPS issue. I opted out of flashing the stock recovery -- is that why it happened?
Anyway, it booted fine the first time out of Mobile Odin but once I restarted, it Hard Bricked -- QHSUSB_DLOAD and all. I've tried using all the SGH-T999V debrick images in the original thread including the one that worked for balcony above, confirming 23 partitions, but I'm still having no luck. I have 2 different SD cards I'm trying them on, a 16GB Class 10 and a 32GB Class 10 and both aren't allowing the phone to boot.
Any more insight to this issue? I can provide as much additional information as required.
Debrick T-Mobile SIII attempt
Hello,
Firstly let me say this forum seems to be one of the best sources of information based on my search to resolve my bricked SIII.
I'm afraid the methods and jargon used are unfamiliar to me so I attempted to follow your instructions as best I can.
ISSUE: Phone "bricked" I think I remember seeing the phone trying to update something just before it suddenly shut down.
I'm just looking to recover files off the phone as this is a work phone and ironically I get an upgrade in a weeks time.
Model: SGH -T999 16 gb ( T-Mobile)
Attempt:
I followed the instructions using windows.
Downloaded win32diskimager
Downloaded 4.3 debrick image ( also tried not 4.3 image)
Copied debrick image on to SD card using win32diskimager( SD card FAT32, 16gb and Class 10)
Plugged SD card into my phone, inserted power and battery.
Felt the phone vibrate and got all excited.
However, went into Boot recovery Mode.
Shows:
BOOT RECOVERY MODE:
CHECK BOOT PARTITIONS.
COPY FROM T-FLASH
BOOT RECOVERY..
WRITE 159488 sectors..
FLASH WRITE FAILURE
ODIN MODE
Product Name: SGH-T999
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary : Samsung Official
System Status: None
Qualcomm secure boot: ENABLE
Warranty Bit: 0
BOOTLOADER AP SW REV: 1
I did try the above with the not 4.3 image but this didn't do anything.
Have I misunderstood something and done anything wrong?
Any advise from here would be greatly appreciated.
Does it work on core i8262 ??

I'm asking this question because the current build of CM13 for the N910V is underdeveloped at this time and I was wondering if I could flash CM13 for the SM-N910T or the sprint variant without any modem issues, etc.
Do a nandroid using TWRP and try it out. I've been testing different ROMs myself. I don't care for ASOP. Kind of ugly and useless without stock Samsung Apps. But I have tested MIUI, and a few other stock based ROMs found in the international Note 4 forum.

Just backup your EFS, Modem, and Boot partitions for sure. If you get a successful flash, immediately use TWRP to restore those partitions and you should be golden. Might also have to edit build.prop to avoid Play Store issues.

what roms are available to flash?
Hi there,
I find myself in an unusual(i think?) situation in that I have the verizon Note 4 but i live in Ireland. Now while the phone is sim free for the most part, Data does not work here without a verizon plan obviously and it would have to be a roaming plan so I would'nt even think about purchasing one. So i've been waiting for an opportunity to root my N4, now that there is a method I'm just wondering if I would be able to flash a stock Irl/Uk rom to my phone, or another rom that would allow me to have data and spen features. I would like to find out if this is possible before I attempt to root. My phone is on 5.1.1 and is the BPA1 version. Any help much appreciated, thanks.

Pending you could add the correct APN for whatever carrier you will be using, you should be fine. I purchased 2 of these devices nearly 2 years ago. I'm on Verizon prepaid and my wife has been on T-Mobile every since.
Funny thing is I didn't have to set her APN manually. The phone did it automatically the day I put her SIM in. Now she doesn't get the full potential of LTE speeds and MMS is a bit kwonky, but it works.

Thanks for the reply,
do you mean add the APN settings after i've rooted? I'm intending to flash the vodafone 5.1.1 IRL Stock Rom if it's possible, I already tried adding the APN settings and it does not work(unrooted) due to bootloader being locked and like i said i would need a verizon roaming plan to be able to use data. So if I get root and flash IRL vodafone stock rom, will I still have an unlocked phone or not? I'm not an expert in this but I would assume the phone would then be locked on the vodafone network yes? Or would it remain unlocked to any network? So just to be clear, what i would like to know is 1. will I be able to flash a stock rom from Vodafone Ireland once i'm rooted 2. If I do manage to flash Vodafone stock rom, will the phone still be unlocked or locked to vodafone? Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

Unlocked sim and unlocked bootloader are different. The phone is sim unlocked from the factory and can never be sim relocked (for lack of a better term). So to answer #2, the phone will not be locked to vodafone.
For #1, I seriously doubt you could odin a stock vodafone rom to this phone and even if you could I'd highly discourage it. If the file contained a bootloader, it would lock the bootloader and could potentially brick the phone. I would recommend unlocking the bootloader, flashing TWRP recovery, rooting (or flash a rooted rom), and add your APN's. If the stock rom is blocking you from adding APN's there are hacks to get around it once rooted. I used to use an app called APN Manager that you install as a /system app that would let you change APN's as you wish.

Any Touchwiz rom should support the S Pen. I believe the Paul (5.1.1) rom does. There's a Note 5 rom that should support it. Just stay away from CM13 or any AOSP roms and you should have S Pen support.

Not such an unusual situation hello from Ireland also a proud verizon note 4 user myself. Meteor and Emobile for me. Data works fine. Let me know if ya need any help.
I am also curious about this situation. I got an awesome deal for my 910v; brand new unopened for 280usd. Only problem is T-mobile sim doesn't get service, and it seems people have lost T-mobile service after upgrading to 5.0. So now I'm stuck with my aging S3 and this brilliant phone just sits there. Fingers crossed that johnboy sees some good results T.T
