Doesn't look like mskip has added i317 model yet.
I flashed CWM 6 for i317 and installed superSU 0.97 via CWM. It seemed to do the trick.
Be wary that the phone not only counts flash attempts, but also has a flag for whether the phone has been modified. If the phone is flagged you will lose the ability to do OTA updates.

i'm with Rogers, but from my limited knowledge the big three Canadian carriers are using the i317 model?
You can grab the i317 cwm recovery from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901196 - scroll down to "first upload(2012/09/23)"
you can grab supersu cwm flash zip from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 - third link under download
again i warn you that you can't ota update after this, but getting rid of rogers bloatware through titanium backup was much more worth it for me for the time being :d.
Perhaps you can tell me this, are there any ota updates out of the box? Or is it updated already?

Would you recommend this root process, or do you think it best to wait for mskip to post an update to add 317 support to his tools? I have rooted many an android tablet, but have never had to deal with a phone before. Why no OTA updates after achieving root? I noticed people passing their #1234# on, does this mean that we are overwriting our EFI partitions which hold some of our unique identifier number, etc. As I said, I'm not used to the phone partition structure, or the use of odin, but have spent quite a bit of time in adb and cwm.
Cheers
EDIT: Sorry, I just reread your post and noticed the quote about the 'modify flag', and then being denied OTA updates. Stupid me, I then decided to go to the source, Triangle Away, and found out it is related to the counter in a hidden boot block. Ignore basically everything I had asked, I know better than to post without searching first. Sorry.
I just got mine from Rogers today. Am with Virgin, and since Virgin is owned by Bell (or Virgin uses Bell network), I took my sim from iphone and put it in GN2 and it worked instantly.
Let me know if you need any info...
Im an anroid noob, so need to do some research before I root. I dont have ANY bloatware, so thats not an issue.

-Connect device to PC, and wait till device successfully added to com port
-Flash
then again
-Reboot device to download mode
-Open odin and select downloaded file for PDA tab (cwm6-root-note2.tar.md5)
-Connect device to PC, and wait till device successfully added to com port
-Flash
Then that should root and install supersu?

The second part no! Do the first part you mentioned. But put superuser97.zip in root of phone first! Then reboot into cwm vol up/home and power together then let go at boot screen. Then flash the superuser97.zip via cwm done
I'll post proper instructions tomorrow your right can be confusing for the average noob

Thanks that worked perfect.
I did actually do the second part (before you replied) but just reflashed with recovery and all is well. ...I think.
Is there a good FAQ somewhere? I have looked at a couple but they seem device specific. My questions are regarding the actual root then ROMs. I would imagine that since a ROM changes the entire OS, it must change the root? Or once the stock rom is rooted, they all are? Stupid noob questions, that im sure a FAQ would answer.
Cheers, and thanks again!

Hi turilo,
I apologize for the noob questions - I'm new to the Andriod ecosystem and I just got a Note 2 (Rogers) and have a couple of questions.
1. You rooted your device and what exactly did that accomplish? It appears you were able to get rid of the Rogers bloatware. So all the red colored Rogers app icons and software are gone? What else is the benefit of rooting your device in particular? Is it faster and the battery lasts longer? Please be as specific as you can.
2. Did your device retain all the TouchWiz and S-pen funtionality after being rooted? In other words rooting did not make your phone a pure Andriod system? I also have a Google Nexus 7 and can see differences in the OS compared to the Note 2, so I'm assuming the differences are "enhancements" (depending on your perspective ofcourse ) that Samsung put in.
3. As someone else mentioned, now that you will not be able to get updates OTA, does this mean that when Samsung releases the update to allow multi window or any other update for their software, you won't get that automatically? Is this not something to be concerned about? I would want to get any updates to the S-pen or TouchWiz for instance.
4. Does the above also mean that when Android 4.1.2 becomes available, you will have to update your device manually using some archane process? ie, you won't be able to do this simply from the Settings menu and click on update software?
5. Last noob question - for Andriod idiots like me (I'm a little bit techy - I jailbroke my iPhone back in the day, but would rather not root my Andriod phone unless the benefits outweigh the disadvantages - get rid of Rogers bloatware, keep the Touch Wiz and S-Pen functionality, improved battery life, faster processing etc), can you point to a link that explains how to do this for Andriod dummies?
Thanks!

I just successfully rooted my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 using Odin and CWM Recovery.
This is exactly what I did:
- D/L Odin 3.04 and "cwm6-root-note2.tar" and saved them to my Desktop
- Extracted Odin and started the program
- Set my Note 2 to USB Debugging
- Restarted the Note 2 in "Downloading Mode" by holding down Volume Down, Home & Power buttons simultaneously
- Connected usb cord to my phone and computer
- Confirmed that Odin registered connection of my phone correctly on COM port
- Went to PDA, then selected "cwm6-root-note2.tar"
- Then I selected start, or root or whatever starts the process. And voila! Rooted with CWM & SuperUser App.
However, I might be returning the phone so I now need to know how to reverse that process and UNROOT my phone. Can someone please help walk me through that process? Do I need to obtain more files that were overwritten or deleted when I rooted?
Also, I thought, perhaps, I could unroot using the SuperUser app so I chose the option that said something like "Unroot.... etc." All it did, however, was get rid of Super User because when I restart my phone in recovery mode, it still boots CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.4
Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi,
So you rooted a LTE version, can I ask which version did you have (SHV-E250S / SHV-E250K / SHV-E250L)?
Is it meaning the rooting process of LTE version is same as the non LTE (3G?) Note II?
Also, what is the reason of returning the phone? Did you find something not good with LTE?
Thank you.

I rooted a SHV-E250L. The process went very smoothly. Especially considering I'd never rooted a phone before. So, from my experience, it seems to be the same process but don't take my word for it.
The phone is awesome - no problems at all. It was just very expensive and I was having a little buyer's remorse. I'm over it now. I was also concerned about not being able to use it in the US when I move back, which I am still unsure about. I have asked a few developers on here but haven't heard back yet. If possible, I'd like to flash a US ROM on the phone so that I can use it on the networks there and access the unrestricted Google Play Store... so, we'll see.
Hope that helps.

Brian,
I am living in Korea as well and I have a lot of experience with the Korean smart phones.
To answer some of your questions, you can use them in the states with either a Stateside SIM (assuming your phone is unlocked, you can get it unlocked from the store if you're going to be traveling) or a Korean SIM (obvious roaming charges). I don't think the LTE bands are the same in SK and the US, therefore you wouldn't be able to use the LTE.
In my experience (with my SGS1) you won't be able to flash a US or Int'l ROM on your Korean model. The internals might be closer than the SGS1 and it's variants were but I wouldn't do it unless you have the Note2 Korean ROM ready to flash back with Odin in the event it won't boot.
You can get unrestricted Play Store access now. You need to download MarketAccess. Google it. it Allows you to basically tell the phone what network it thinks it's on.
In the event you ever need to unroot your phone, you just need to use Odin to flash the official firmware.
If you need anything else, let me know...

Most likely Tegrak will have a kernel for this device before too long. You would then be able to use the Odin software to root the phone. The process is the same for both.

Thank you so much for the answers. I really appreciate it. So, you're saying for sure I will not be able to use this phone's LTE capabilities in the US on any network? If so, that's a huge game changer for me... I wonder what LG U+'s return policy is... I know I can just transfer the phone to someone else here in Korea when I leave and pick up a Note 2 in the states when I go back but I feel like I'd be losing a lot of money since the cost of the phone is spread out amongst the monthly payments here in Korea. Are there any phones that will work work both on SK LTE and US LTE?
Regarding un-rooting my phone, don't I need to get a hold on the official firmware before I can flash it with Odin? Or is it stored somewhere on my phone? All the official firmwares I've seen on XDA are for the N7100 not the N7105. Any suggestions?
Thank you, again, for all your support. You rock!

No problem, glad to help.
I am also looking for the firmware online. I haven't found it yet. PM me your email and when I find it, I'll send it over to you.
All info I have read says LTE is different. The 3G would still work just no LTE.
Idk what LG's policy is, but you could take it to Samsung a/s in the electronics market to revert it if needed.
Good luck. I might know someone who could take the phone of your hands next year if you want to go that route.

SHV-E250S problem.
Hello SHV-E250S/K/L users.
Does anyone know where I can download an official factory stock ROM for my SHV-E250S ?
I have an IMEI missing issue, and EFS file deleted issue. After wich i have a black notice on the screen and no boot logo or turn of logo, it just switches straight away after pressing the button.
No network or IMEI(((
I just came back from the Samsung official service center, and guess what, they can`t help me. They say i need to flash an original factory rom, i even brought them the two roms i downloaded from the: www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=SHV-E250S&pcode=0&os=1&type=1#firmware
And they said that these are not official factory roms, that they are custom, all thaw when i flash with one them, and go to recovery mode, my current binary changes to official. Don’t know why but everything else stays the same:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SHV-E250S
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (37 counts)
CURENT BINARY: Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
DON`T KNOW HOW TO FIX, AND WHERE TO GET FACTORY ROM((((
Would appreciate any help!

Did you OVER THE AIR =O.T.A. update YOU CAN still Root/RECOVERY BUT YOU MUST DOWN GRADE FIRST AS OF MAY 2013
This works on all Canadian variants of the lg optimus g 2600 lte phones.
If you root you can not OTA update.
If you root and flash to any version of jellybean OTA= over the air update is no longer needed.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU ERASE YOU FAMILY HISTORY OR REMOVE YOURSELF FROM THE GENE-POOL
I did not develop or create this i just merged it so it would work.
USB debugging must be turned on found in settings then development check-mark USB debugging then plug in you phone LG drivers must be installed found here http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?3p6u1bq776bdbzi
If you have issues with getting in to recovery i did try QUICKBOOT found here http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?g4g37gwd6y99urb or download from Google play
1. Download: lg e971.zip http://d-h.st/HsU
2. Extract it
:cyclops:Update not tested i have added the files to e971.zip or download the the ZV9-ZVB-Universal-Root Posted by fiddy619 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181103
ZV9-ZVB-Universal-Root Update run CurrentRoot.bat first if it works go to freegee.bat then continue to step 8.
3. Run: RunMe.bat ignore restore instructions skip with back button
4. Run: Root.bat
5. Download busybox from the market and install it then run it
6. Transfer: cwm6027touch_v14.4.6_geebus.zip in the found LG e971 folder to your internal SD-card not in a folder in main directory.
7. Run: Freegee.bat once complete you are now ROOTED with CUSTOM RECOVERY
NOTE: This CUSTOM RECOVERY DOSE NOT WORK WELL AT ALL continuing with next step to update the custom recovery.
NOTE: To enter custom recovery shut phone off then press vol up+down+power at the same time you will see fastboot hit vol down twice you won't see anything happen on the fastboot screen hit power it will reboot to custom recovery.
8. Install zip from internal SD-card look for cwm6027touch_v14.4.6_geebus.zip in your main directory then flash it.
Now you can flash ANY Stock 4.1.2 ROM OR 4.01 ROM

:cyclops:UPDATE: CM10 based roms will boot loop or just not boot due to a partition issue you must downgrade to shipped revision d not e kdz then full root/boot loader unlock then flash what you want. :cyclops:
FYI I bricked my phone once then restored it just to get this done.
After 10 hrs of playing around with all i could find in the forums i found this to work.
I have repeated these steps on 3 more phones for other owners and it works great.
Now i have no bloatware removed LG-Ui removed LG Email and Google Mail using enhanced email for faster push intervals Full nova launcher custom kernel and pimped with pimp my ROM for added tweaks and flashed g-now
IF YOU BRICKED OR WISH TO RESTORE OR DOWNGRADE
:cyclops:NEEDED FOR ANY CM10-ASOP/AOKP ROMS

Put your Optimus G into Download Mode by switching it off, attaching the usb cable to the phone, holding both the up and down volume buttons at the same time and lastly inserting the usb cable into the computer; wait for the drivers to finish loading if doing it for the first time.
Run KDZ_FW_UPD.exe. Use the settings below
Type: 3GQCT
Phone Mode: CS_Emergency
Navigate to the folder which you have saved the downloaded KDZ file
Click Launch Software Update and wait for the flash process to finish
Your phone will restart itself when complete
If you get stuck on the lg logo perform a factory reset volume down power at the same time release power at logo hold volume until you see factory reset then power twice
This proses is the same for downgrade E97110D_00.kdz is the downgrade file and is necessary to flash and run any CM10 based rom because of partition settings and if you downgrade root and fregee is all that you need and i recommend the downgrade its more compatible with custom roms
NONE OF THE SOFTWARE USED IS MINE AND FOR THOSE WHO CREATED IT I THANK-YOU FOR YOU CONTINUED WORK AND DEDICATION if you know who they are and this helped donate to them not to me THANK-YOU

My 2 Cents= "If you asked for free advice and got what you paid for ? don't complain."
1st. Never upload something to dropbox if you want to distribute on public. It will rape your bandwidth allocation and you will get a warning and your dropbox public download will be cutted.
2nd. You didnt need to include your own backup file. Freegee will do the backup anyway and this might be confusing to the user if it says it failed but still have the backup done. This will also decrease significantly the size of the archive.
3rd. There is no developement done here. it's simply a re-zip of multiple package already found in this forum.
thanks for the info on drop box
and i did not claim it was anything i created or developed other than a workaround and the back up is from the developer of freegee and has been removed.
Wow

Happy to report that I am rooted thanks to the info provided here!!
I am currently running an unlocked E971(Rogers) on the bell(E973) network.
Software Version: E97110e (latest 4.0.4 firmware for E971)
Thanks for the Thread!
THIS THREAD NEEDS MORE ATTENTION!!!!
QUICK AND EASY ALL IN ONE ROOT AND BOOTLOADER UNLOCK WITHOUT A NEED TO DOWNGRADE SOFTWARE, OR DO ANY KDZ WORK OF ANY KIND! (something I still am unsure how to do)
Thanks a TON kentek. I put off rooting this phone and unlocking the booloader because of all the software downgrading and different soft brick possibilities with OTA's and other things. This made things SUUUUUPER easy.
It almost scary how easy it was, lol. I think you should include a little bit more information in the OP however. Things like "USB debugging" must be turned on. Even instructions on how to boot the phone into recovery. Personally I use quick boot. Maybe recommend people root first, then install QuickBoot before unlocking with freegee, as an easy way to get into the CWM that freegee installs. Then you can use quickboot to get into recovery and update it to sk8ers touch recovery (the BEST recovery ive ever used across numerous devices.)
Anyway..... Thanks again kentek, and hopefully more people who were having trouble, or like me, hesitant to do anything, will see this thread and have their freedom granted as quick and easy as I did.
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTT!!!!!!!
ATRIXXIRTA I took your advice and did just that thank you for the props.
? Hows the weather up there still no snow here.
Re: Rogers e971 Root with update work around found and bootloader unlock with cwm upd
Ahhhh. Now THATS an OP! lol.
With the explanation so thorough now, nobody should have any issues. Just the more in-depth info about how freegee works. One of the things I was trying to find out was whether or not freegee replaced your recovery. Even the video on the freegee official thread doesn't explain ANYTHING. Just shows the guy booting into recovery, with no mention of the replacement cwm touch. You've pretty much made it fool proof now!
The weather here has been ridiculous. Its +12 one day, -10 the next. Its plague weather for sure, lol. Its funny, I'm literally on my way to Niagara right now as I type this. So I'll be passing through your neighborhood in about an hour, haha. I'll check out your weather as I pass through, lol.

To the OP, I wanted to thank you for posting all the information in an easy to follow manner. I can confirm that I am now rooted even though I had applied the latest OTA update from rogers prior attempting this method. Only tricky part was getting into recovery mode.. it should be "Hold the Volume UP & power buttons at the same time."
So will using this method to root and unlock bootloader cause me to lose the OTA function?
I'm on Rogers e971 with latest OTA update. I would like root so i can get back to using Titanium, but i'm not sure if i want to sacrifice my ability to run future OTA updates.

BIG Noob Questions
Hi, I am unfamiliar with Samsung Phones. I currently have a LG phone without all this stuff about variants. I have a Rogers phone but I am unlocking it to run on Telus. That said can I run a Telus rooted firmware? Or does it not really matter what firmware is on the phone. Is it worth while to update the radio?
Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for any answers that you can give.

DMF1977, I tried your way. I downloaded Odin and root66_ATT_I747UCDLK3.tar. As soon as I loaded the root66 file, I didn't even get a chance to hit start, both times Odin froze. Then I saw "Check MD5....Do not unplug the cable...Please wait". I had no choice but to shut my phone down because Odin froze and wasn't doing anything. I tried it twice. Then after I unplugged and shut my phone down I saw this in the box " root66_ATT_I747UCDLK3.tar.md5 is valid. Checking MD5 finished successfully. Leave CS..."
I remember last year having a problem with Odin conflicting with something on my laptop when I rooted my Captivate. I ended up having to root it a different way.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2611175
Check my signature for a link to how I rooted with 4.4.2
Depending on the version of Android you have on that phone, it will trip the Knox flag. Which won't affect the performance of the phone, but will indicate you messed with your phone. There may be other rooting methods that work, but this one worked for me.
BTW, I found that method by using Search on this forum and Google.

The safe root method is how i rooted with 4.3 but it is my understanding that you need your phone to be unlocked to use a different carrier. Unlocked and rooted are 2 different things.

Unlocked sop I can use whatever carrier I want.
Rooted Because I want control over my pohone and not somebody else saying what I can and cant do with it.
I can get it to bot in cwm recovery but thats all it won't rot the rom so I can see it its rooted or not. I followed eth entire instructions provided and used oden like it said to and all I suceded in doing was makeing a damn brick out of a phone I got to have running tomorrow morning

If you can get into Download mode (Power Off, then Volume Down+Power Button), then you'll need to download the Stock Rom and transfer it to your phone via ODIN. Do you know if you were 4.2, 4.3, or 4.42 before you bricked it? You can download the images from Sammobile.com

If you have access to ClockWork Mod Recovery, wipte the cache and dalvik and see if that lets it boot.
If not, just download a rom, any rom from the dev section that you want to try and put it on a micro SD card. Put the SD card in your phone.
Do a full wipe (data, system, cache, dalvik) in recovery and flash the downlaoded ROM file. Your phone should boot right up.
You'll want a TouchWiz based rom if you still need to perform the SIM unlock proceedure so you can use it on the Cricket network. But once step at a time here...

Thats cause it wasn;t rooted before, hopefully it is now, cause my wife just went to Cricket to see if she can get her Iphone and mine on their network

I found Smemo on line, took a while since I'm on oxycodone for pain due to a hernia operateing, but I got it, placed it in eth rom and reflashed it
Now I'd love to find a theme for Wicked V10 that would change teh color of the phone dialpad, I HATE white dialers, makes me remember when I was a kid back in teh 60' when my mom had nothing but white so she could see if it was clean, and sanitized, degermed, and all that, ( yes I was an outside type, and brought it all inside )
Oh and all I can say guys, is thanks for trying to help me I WILL figure it out for the firmware and hardware and software that I have, experimenting with a phone that I totally bricked today, gotta re-instal the entire os on it, so I'm gonna experiment with various versions of the SGH-M919 software, if I find out what works on what I'll post it for you guys to check and make sure I did right

Your best bet is to ask in the rom thread. I have yet to flash anything on my P607T other then rooting. It looks like Dev work is very slow for this tablet. So you may not get a 100% working AOSP rom any time soon. Stock rom is really fast and sable once you root and deboat it. That is what I am sticking with for awhile.

Your best way is to just use TB and froze whatever you do not want. If you run into problems just unfroze it. If you uninstall and you run into a bootloop you will need to have the stock Odin firmware ready. here is a link to get the stock odin file.

I just uninstalled whatever I did not want. If you google What apps are safe to remove on a Note 3 to debloat, it will pretty much be the same as the 10.1. Both the note 3 and the 10.1 are pretty much the same other then screen.
Edit: I got this list from here

Here is a a list for the GS4 which as a lot of the apps we have as well

unlocking bootloader
I think we need to get the bootloader unlocked to get development on this thing rollin'
I'm willing to lend my device to a well-reputed senior-member/developer and pay shipping both ways if they think they can work some magic for the SM-P607T
Should I make a new post with regards to this?
Was able to root using this method no Knox either

bootloader is unlocked and there is no problems getting root and current Twrp can be installed which says the bootloader is unlock. if the bootloader was locked you wouldn't be able to flash Twrp. from the looks of it no one has a p607. it is all 605 or the wifi only one p600 and 601. stock rom with root and debloated works great. try a 605 rom. hopefully CM starts to pick up more then we are set.

Do P605 ROMs even work on a P607T? I've been wondering that myself. I have a 607T and although I am very impressed with the stock ROM it just is never going to measure up to CM for me.
I've been thinking about giving the P605 CM 11 port a try in a few weeks when it's just a bit more stable, but I have no idea how similar they are or if my device would even boot after flashing it!

Anyway to flash the "modem.bin" and "NON-HLOS.bin" flash partitions yet?

Guys... Did you even read that thread in the link?
You should be asking these questions there... That whole thread is dedicated to making calls on the P607T.... And if you read the thread you'll know the author hit a brick wall and a boot loader hack is needed to flash the proper modem files for phone calls.

Reading is Fundamental, amirite? (... sorry, couldn't resist )
But yeah, go there for any updates.

Haha. Thank you kcrudup for pointing to that thread, gave me some useful info on using P605 Roms on a P607T.
Any idea about what sort of problems may pop up from doing this? I got a reply in the CM thread that their P605 version of CM should work fine on my P607 but... Surely it can't be that simple? Any idea what differences there are between thecode of the two tablets or is it really that similar?

I'm 95% sure the only difference physically is the radio "front end" hardware is tuned for the T-Mo LTE frequencies so the modem baseband SW reflects that, and software-wise all that's new is a few pre-installed apps like the "My T-Mobile" app and that (loud-and-annoying-as-hell-and-quickly-removed) T-Mobile "jingle" on startup; I've put several P605 ROMs on my 607T and everything's worked OK ('cause the bootloader won't let me overwrite the radios and potentially-dangerous bootloader files anyway).

Awesome info thanks so much!! So if I understand correctly, any differnces that would render my tablet completely inoperable are already protected from flashing? So I don't need to meet with the TARs for the Roms to remove the modem files or anything?
I mean, I don't mind if my radio breaks or something, I can handle flashing back to stock I am just never sure when I start flashing a new Android device what risks there are of bricking it completely (which, with Knox in the picture, could totally screw me).
So with that I will probably be going flash crazy tonight and tomorrow to test our some different 605 Roms starting with Cyanogen. I'll try to post any findings or quarks here or in those threads!

You will have to remove all the "*.mbn" and "*.bin" files from (Samsung-supplied) non-P607T ROMs, though- Odin will abort the flash if it receives a bad status from the bootloader when the bootloader rejects the flash operation. But it should be a straightforward unzip/rm/zip operation to repack, and I'm sure the CM flashes are just "boot" and "system" (and possibly "recovery") partitions anyway.

so is it necessary to remove the above mentioned files. I can't just flash a p605 rom with twrp?

Yes it is necessary, the .mbn files relate to the bootloader and the .bin files is the modem and NON_HLOS, being that they are for a different ROM it could cause major problems and maybe even bricking. @kcrudup even mentioned the bootloader conflicting with Odin if the device models don't match, so it seems you won't get the 605's installed without removing said files.

I have been looking for a guide for flashing twrp onto my sm-p607t but i cant find one. I mainly need the correct twrp img.tar file for odin. I found this one ( openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-lt03wifiue.img ) but I don't know if it is the right one. I used towelroot to root it and i used the proper supersu to disable knox so i just need the custom recovery now.
