heres something i was messing around with today.
i was putting some of the phone dimensions into photoshop to see how they compared to each other, and as you can see i got slightly carried away.
but it killed a bit of time anyway and i thought it might be helpful to others who are going as mad as i am switching between webpages comparing the specs all the time
download original image here:
http://elektricforest.com/2010/11/19/windows-phone-7-vs-windows-phone-7/
sorry i dont think i can post the link properly yet.
i got the majority of the information from the microsoft and phonearena site so the info should be correct enough but some stuff like the battery and dimension info for the Focus seemed to be conflicting on different sites so make sure you double check yourself if your looking at that phone. everything else seems to be ok
that is sweet!
thanks!

thanks! could you get to the large version of it with the troovi link? its my first time using that for uploading photos so im not too sure whether the photo is public to everybody or not
I got to the large one no problem, worked like a charm. thanks for that, it was pretty cool!
Much kudos for that! Must have taken a while. Makes me even for me eager for my Omnia to arrive!

it took the best part of the day to do it, i was doing bits here and there so im not too sure how many hours all together. ive been sick as a dog anyway the last few days so not much energy to do anything else, enough just to use a keyboard and a mouse! im not complaining though... its great getting to laze about in front of the computer for the whole day without feeling guilty about it
one thing wrong with this... the mozart does not have an AMOLED screen... i believe it's an SLCD screen.
thats strange, i got the info off this site:
http: // www . microsoft.com/presspass/presskits/windowsphone/glance.aspx
microsofts site! you think they would have the right info?
i must go and check that out so thanks for the heads up

What's the advantage of 1GB ROM?
Very nice!
One question: What (if anything) in the image is to scale? It seems the thickness chart is, but everything else seems smaller than it should be. (I'm holding my TP2 up to the screen to compare it with the other phones)
i couldn't open the page...?

I really though that the Samsung Omnia 7 (and Focus) had 16GB NAND ROM like the iPhone. I guess I was wrong. Maybe we're both wrong. According to PDAdb the Omnia 7 has 512MB ROM. I can't understand why so little because they make tons of NAND ROM. And the Samsung Galaxy S has 16GB ROM plus the MicroSD slot which holds up to 32GB of storage.

hey, sorry i dont know how i missed your post yesterday, must be going blind.
None of them are in scale actually! When you put the dimensions into photoshop they dont show up the same on the screen. say if you make something 15cm in photoshop and then measure the screen, it will only measure as 11cm.
If i had made a print version of this image to start with and printed it out then they would all show up as the actual size... but i didnt do that lol
the sizes here just show how they compare to each other rather than the actual size.

WP7 installs apps to a unified storage drive that does NOT include the ROM. You will have over 6GB of storage for apps on 8GB phones.
At this point, no one is sure what is the advantage of having larger ROM space.

Mmm, I noticed that too. I've read a lot about it though and I've come across several comments along the lines of "while it was previously thought to be 512MB it's actually 1GB". I don't know the source of this information, so it may not be true.

I belive it's to do with the firmware having to be flashed to the ROM. Bigger ROM means more future-proof. Microsoft have said that they want to avoid a situation where some phones can't run the latest updates though.
Brilliant sheet man nice work
Suggestion: Put in whether it has flash storage that's soldered or removable. (soldered has noticably better performance, removable has the advantage it can be expanded)
Ones I could find:
Trophy, Venue Pro, Focus, HD7 ,Mozart have removable
Omnia 7 doesn't
Ones that I couldn't:
Optimus 7, Surround, so they probably don't have it, or it's not been discovered yet.
Also Boottimes would fit nicely in there, I'll see if I can find those somewhere.
Just browsing through the forum this morning, I've seen several threads that the basic concept is "HELP I FLASHED SOMETHING FOR THE INTERNATIONAL SGSII AND NOW MY PHONE IS FRIED".
So just a reminder: It's probably not a good idea to flash anything that is not made for your phone unless you're absolutely certain it won't mess anything up.
I always thought that was common sense, but apparently not.

If they can still get to Odin mode after flashing the international ROM it is able to be saved. The thing is you have to install the drivers from the international phone to get Odin to recognize it. I know it's worked at least once on here

I think more iphone users are starting to fall inlove with android due to 4'52, removable ram, removable batteries, easy syncing, apps, customisations. Idk they are usually getting pretty smart pretty fast after converting but allas, some new i phone user are uses to if apple will allow you to view it or download it than it will work on the iphone because 50% of evertthing is locked down and restricted and the iphone wont let you [email protected] up. The timing of this couldn't be any more perfect. This thread goes up, and then someone boinks their E4gT by flashing the latest leaked int'l SGS2 ICS ROM lol.
I can understand how there could be some confusion - the Epic Touch is a Galaxy S2 variant.
Even I had to do some research, verifying the battery for the Epic Touch is indeed different from the other phones, and the software / drivers are different in subtle and not so subtle ways.
But I agree, one should always read, read, read, and read more before they flash a ROM for their phone, regardless of the type of phone. Making assumptions is one sure way to brick a phone.
At the very least post a question here before doing something questionable. It never hurts to get a second opinion.
But yes, the Epic Touch is different from the Galaxy S2. Please do not use any software for the SGS2 for the Epic Touch unless it has been specifically tested and used here by others, more experienced veterans.

Good post op. I am so surprised I see so many posts about I flashed a rom and now my epic touch won't boot. Then we find out it was for the international SII. There is no reason for making that mistake. I understand its a variant if the SII but that's why there is an epic touch subforum. Its just unbelievable when I read their posts.

I'm sure a good sum of you on this forum have been thinking about an upgrade for your Inc (I know I have). I always seem to find one flaw in the new phones that cause me to want to keep the phone I have now. I'm thinking about getting a Droid Inc 4G when they release it. What do you think is the best phone to choose? Is that a good choice? Is there something better I should be waiting for?
Thanks!
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda premium
Bud, I'm sure you're gonna hear 50 opnions of yes or no, it really depends on what's important to you in a phone and what you do with it. I'm not a Developer, or chip, IT knowitall, so I can't give clockspeeds and processor criteria to you, no doubt some others can but for me and what I have educated myself with, the new INC 4G will be just the ticket for me.
Getting this s4 I think Krait processor, which is a big upgrade over what most phones out currently have, though some out might be bigger or faster but not many. Removable battery, sd card, 4G, ICS, and a nice size 4".
If you looking for a bigger phone, some other options out there might be more worthwhile for you. I think the new screen is QHD which is not quite 720P if I understand it correctly but a deffinite improvement over my amoled INC
That's what I was thinking too. As long as the screen looks good to me, I'm okay with it. I wont be super picky about the exact resolution and I'm assuming lower resolutions mean less battery draw. Could someone shed some light on that? Thanks in advance! Also, will we be able to S-off the new Inc?

I don't know enough about he technical specs of CPUs... GPUs... etc etc to answer any questions about that stuff.
But, I started a similar thread over in the Incredible General section about the Incredible 4g. I am thinking that the DInc4g seems like a great choice for me too.
The thing that concerns me most, is developer support. It's not going a "flagship" phone. It doesn't have a huge HD screen. Therefore, people are not going to be lining up in the streets for it. As far as I am concerned, that is just fine with me. But, I am always out on fringe...
I just wonder how much developers will be working with it. That is very important... at least to me.

I'm gonna be suprised if it doesn't. A lot of those guys usually have at least 2 phones in their signature, so they might have the nexus or the rezound but I maybe they have gf's or wives that need a new phone and they use that as an excuse to get new hardware and start developing for it

I think you meant "underclocked from 1.5." The "standard" S4 has a clock speed of 1.5GHz. So, yes, it does seem that it is underclocked. We obviously wont know for sure until it is released though.

All in all, the Incredible 4G will be a great phone. In fact, as long as you're cool with a 4" screen, it will be the best phone on Verizon (for a little while at least).
I'm still holding out hope that they call it the Incredible 3, not "4G"

Hi there Nexus owners, I currently own a Nexus S, and I plan on switching to a Galaxy Nexus but I was wondering since the Sa Nexus camera is lacking in the numbers when it comes to megapixels, does anyone know of the possibilities of swapping the camera of an SII (8mp) with that of our phone?
My Nexus S takes good enough pictures at 5mp but I just want to justify the lack of a need for the SIII over the Nexus.
I found the back camera for an SII for sale here.

Because you can't just take apart 2 phones and swap parts frankenstein style. Just because they're both phone cameras doesn't mean they're "plug and play". These things aren't desktop computers, their parts are not interchangeable.
If you think that the camera on the GNex is that bad (it actually isn't), and a phone camera is that important to you, don't buy the GNex.
Thanks for the input, I brought it up only because I know a fairly similar act was successfully pulled off with the Galaxy S and the Galaxy S 4G, with the front camera swap. Maybe someone with better knowledge of the internals can give some insight on what differences exist if there are. I dont mind getting the GNEX to be frank, way to much pros over the cons, but I can't wait to be able to swap out parts off a phone on the fly like a computer. Now thats going to be the best thing that happened to the phone industry after Android.

Phones have been closed proprietary hardware systems since the modern smartphone. They're getting more closed and proprietary as time goes on. If you want better performance, battery life, and design you need them to be closed, sealed devices.
Even laptops are going this way. If you wanna swap parts get a dekstop computer.

The Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S II camera modules are totally different. If the SII camera worked out of the box with the Galaxus' ISP (which is quite possible,) the connectors are completely different. It would require so much work that it just wouldn't be worth it by any stretch.
That and it probably wouldn't even fit inside the phone.

How many universal parts/standards do you see on the inside of phones? Even if parts were more universal your phone would be uglier than Frankenstein and look like a mummy with all the duct tape keeping it together so you have something usable. A lot of things would have to become standard before swapping parts in and out even becomes thinkable. Think when a thought pops happens upon your head.
let it be.
When i read threads like this or those "can i install Gingerbread on gnex? " i really think these are TROLLS trying to get people mad...
Makes no sense, you want a better camera? Get a nikkon camera... I dont even see the point on better cameras on a phone.. If i can take a picture to put a Face on my contact or to take any fast photo for a quick reference.. Im ok.. Now if I want really good pictures for a wedding, 15 years daughter party or any special moment.. Id hire a professional photographer.. Thats all about it
Ppl tends to be really stupid about this, like iphone fan Boys.. When they figured 4S its a piece of crap they only got left to say oh but the camera its awesome... Yeah?? Better than a nikkon 24mp / 300 photos per second / 2milles zoom 250gb internal memory 1 touch in screen per 300 photos?... I say go to hell

Thanks for ur inputs guys. That been said if you are a member of XDA then I will think you won't be one to comfortably accept what the manufacturer gave u as is, keep it in your pocket and feel satisfied, we are here to tweak, tinker and learn from these devices, some of us at least.
If no one challenged what manufacturers have handed down then there won't be a need for MIUI, Voodoo, Ezekeel etc. I was only looking to see the possibilities I am not an electronic head to know exactly what can be or cannot be done. Don't forget the duct tape and jb-weld.
I still don't get why people are so worried with the GN's camera. I have both (GN & GS2) and can't tell from a glance "oh, this is the GN and this is the GS2" from looking at a picture.
- both are back illuminated sensors
- a 1920x1080 screen is 2 megapixels, most professional photographers say that 5 megapixels is more than enough, above is only useful if you *print* on large medias (eg. posters)
- both have the same sensor size
It is true that the GN had focus oddities and no image stabilization but this was fixed in 4.0.4. Don't forget that the GN has 2 CPUs (Cortex M3) dedicated solely to the camera subsystem. This is why there's instant shoot on that device.
Also consider that things change WAY too fast in this industry to develop standards. Intel can make a new CPU and ride on it for 2-3 years before they need to make a new one, even with AMD nipping at its heels. And when they make their CPU, they make it however they want, and the OEMs will build the form factor around it.
Smartphone companies do not have the same luxury. People want their sensor-laden connected supercomputers to fit comfortably in their hands, and they want it right now. If someone were to try to come up with a standard CPU, it would be obsolete before the ink dried on the standards page. Look how long it took them to agree on MicroUSB, and that's just a port.
Company: Here's your camera standard, the C5. Plug it into any board and you're good to go.
OEM: Only 8 megapixels? No backlight? Not good enough.
Company. OK, here's the C6.
Only 12 megapixels? NO CMOS sensor?
And on it goes.

Relax, it isn't. Have you read the comments after the article? Consensus is pretty much that it's a hoax somehow.
Of course one would like sometimes that the world is more interesting than it seems, that some super-hacker just comes out of the blue without any advance warning, pulling off a feat that other fellow hackers can only dream about, but as I said - most probably not.

Its a hoax, he switched the internals of the phones since they have basically has the same schematics, although he messed up the buttons that they do not light up anymore. If he did, swapped the os's he should have shown what version and build he installed, like any other hackers would probably do. Instead he just played around played with some apps.
