Soo A2SD - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've never been a big fan of it and I have never tried it. Most of the new roms now a days seem to require this. Does using A2SD contribute to making our devices less laggy? Sense 3+ and ics roms usually make my phone lag and its just in general a ****ty experience. While other people are reporting success and lag free.
A2SD makes that much of a difference?

It moves the cache and dalvik cache to the SD card, freeing up internal memory, therefore giving more space to use, so yes, it is a big deal.

HTC Desire slowdown in games and in opening apps in general [HELP!!!]

Hey all,
My phone is lagging in games(which it shouldn't) and other applications while I open them you can see a delay actually. Recently I've tried the free version of Minecraft : PE Demo with my HTC Desire and my brother with his Huawei
IDEOS X5 and joined the same game session to test it out, I found out that he didn't had any lag compared to me, his ran smoothly while mine was lagging pretty much, then we botch switched to fancy graphics(higher graphics) and both of us were lagging, then his stopped to lag and worked just fine while I couldn't even rotate due to the lag and FPS drops. Our phones are almost equal so there's not a big difference, I checked I had over 150Mb RAM free while he only had 35MB~70MB RAM free in most cases which was really weird. Anyone knows what would fix the problem? I've tried many ROMs before but none gave me real good results. I'm currently using MUIU ROM which I just flashed about three hours ago.
I'd please for any kind of help.

Is the game running from nand or sd card?

Probably code optimization? Wild idea tough, since it works on the Huawei.

It's from my SD Card.
What class is it? And is your brother running it from sd card or from nand?

Class 2 and my brother is runing it from NAND. I've noticed that even some low-end phones got better FPS in the same game than I do, this is annoying. -_-
I think that's your problem and it would explain the performance difference between you and your brother. Firstly class 2 is not gonna be able to handle it so try running it from nand. I downloaded it to test, i'm running it from nand and its smooth for me. I'll test running it from my class 4 sd card tomorrow and report back.

Tried it today on MIUI with Desire - I don't see any lags (class 6 SD) even when I connect it with my TF101, so probably SD Card.
Well, we've tried switching our SD cards but there was no improvement at all, even if I move it to NAND as it currently is on my SD Card. His phone is not rooted so it means he's still on 'stock'.

Getting sluggish. Time for a new ROM?

Isn't it a good time to experiment with a new ROM when your phone starts slowing down, freezing, & occasionally misbehaving? Which is the most stable ROM in anyone's humble opinions? Thanks

I recommend DW for stability and especially battery life, but definitely try out slickmod if you are looking for topnotch UI performance

Dude roms dont get sluggish after time....it is what the user does. U make it sound like a car that your putting a lot of miles on then when it has to many miles u buy new car. Lol not like that it is definitely user related, why dont u go into recovery and clear cache and dalvik cache maybe that might help

I'm running beastMod, haven't had a single issue with it.
Loving Malice with streamline.

Just use a launcher like ADW and your device will run smooth. Touchwiz is stable but Samsung put a half bake job on optimizing Touchwiz and Snapdragon CPU. If its slow check what apps are running when its slow sometimes too many widgets can easily drain battery and slow down your device.

I have ADW, my favorite. I do have a lot of widgets though. Maybe i'm just looking for an excuse to look for another, possibly better ROM.

I think its just your apps thats slowing the phone down. Im using juggernaut 5.0 no problems at all great battery life.

What is "Malice" and "streamline"? Turns out my ADW was acting up I noticed after I reset it.

lightweight optional gb on internal memory?

cm9/10 based roms are great and getting better with every passing day.but battery wise they are much worse compared to cleanGB or people's rom. i dont feel much problem on normal days as i am always near a power source, but when i have to travel somewhere, or stay away from charger for 10-12 hours, conditions become very bad. I hardly use the phone in such conditions and even then the epic fails most of the time to make it through. our epic has around 600 mb of internal memory free in cm9/10. so my guestion is, is it possible to have a dual boot internal memory light-weight version of gb(~100mb) so that we can use that while we are away from power for a long time.??i guess a lot of other epic users feel the same..developers please comment.
I'm currently using the gb miui 2.3.9 rom and battery life is very good.....That may be a good alternative for you.

It's all in the kernel and Samsung Galaxy S Epic 4G doesn't have a dual boot kernel like the SGSII has. Be happy that you got 600MB is free for non SD card apps.

Which Kernel r you running?

Want to get a sense for what most plp flash. Thx

Ktoonsez's kernel. Getting decent battery life and it comes with a built in tweaking app, ktweaker.
Kt747, I think you'll find most people are running ktoonsez kernel.

+1 for KT747.

Another +1 for kt747
KT747! been having great battery life and performance. Also the ktweaker app is very useful
I use KT747 as well. Performance/battery life has been great, and I haven't even gotten into undervolting at all..yet
Stock Kernel + Stock ROM (LH1) + Cell Standby Fix = More than sufficient for me..
I run kt747 most of the time but my phone doesn't like it much. Tried faux and it was OK. I wish there were more choices. I had siyahs kernel on my gs2 and I loved that one. I see there's one for the i9300 but no att love

Ktoonsez's kernel awesome battery and no problems that i can tell
Stock
9-5b toonz
red s3 ocd 2.1
Faux's. It's the only kernel for this phone that I know of which has no issues and just works, stable, at super fast oc speeds.
I really want to try kt747 once some of the bugs are resolved.

I still can't find one that let's me move apps to the SD card. This is really driving me crazy. I tried "highonandroid" rom which switches the internal and external cards but had problems with some apps from the google play store telling me there was not enough room to download so I am back to stock.
Thanks

Why is moving apps to the sd card so vital to you? I'm not trolling, i'm curious. We have a ton of on board storage and big app installs go to sd anyhow.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
I am not speaking about the internal SD as to me this is just my part of my phone internal storage that is filling up fast. I am speaking about the external SD card (mine is 32 gig). On all my other android phones (Atrix and Galaxy Note) I could us a program called Apps to SD and move some of my apps to the external SD card. We can't do this with the S3 because of something Samsung did and I am looking for way to do this.
Also, could some please post a link to Ktoonsez's kernel. So many are using it I would like to try it out.
Thanks
Kt747 is in original development, there's like 6 threads yu can't miss it.

I guess it's going to be repetitive to say this right now...but +1 for ktoonsez kernel
ktoonservative+underclock 96-1188+undervolt+noop=orgasm
Faux's jus got works and has no bugs or issues. It's better then stock and ocd up to 1.8.to fine tune you should get system tuner.
Kts kernel last time I read the thread seemed to have e a lot of bugs but seems to have great upsides also. I hope that most the issues get resolved soon as I really want to try to oc to 2ghz and play with gpu oc also
But If you need something that's as stable as stock just better.. Get Faux's

Available RAM explanation please.

It's my understanding that this phone comes with 1gb of ram... Why is it that at any given time only about 350mb of that is free to use, and only 768mb is available total? I realize the OS needs ram to run, but I can't imagine that it needs ~600mb.

bump.
I want to know as well, the lowest I get it is 326mb with easy task killer,
I assume 768mb available is just what they give us, it's always less than advertised.. but I dont understand how on my last phone there would be 100mb free but itd be running like.. ****

I believe a certain portion of your RAM is reserved for system devices like Radio and isn't seen by the Android OS.

I noticed this to, but if you ever had an older Gingerbread device, even running CM7 they came with 256-384mb of Ram. By the time the phone was booted and all the front end services and apps were loaded, you had roughly 90mb of free ram to play with. I heard ICS and JB would at least double that, which is in par for the 768 +/- Ram usable. With a custom ROM, and removed bloat, I have close to 500mb free at boot time, so still a lot of front end apps are being loaded and using that Ram.
I think this is why a lot of older devices, even with 512 ram had a hard time getting an ICS update. Processor wasn't really the hardware in question, but moreso the Ram.
I hope this makes a little sense since I'm still half a sleep
Remember that android loves to fill up your ram with your apps for quicker launching. Android actually runs worse when you have free ram. Go into developer options and limit background processes to 0 and see for yourself lol
