Hey XDA community I have been having problems with battery life on my Desire ever since I put the Starburst rom on it. I searched a solution to this on google and came across "kernels". I know how to install them but well I dont know which ones are considered good or bad and such. Could anyone make a suggestion to me?
I am running version 1.3.3.5 of Starburst
My kernel according to the software info screen on my desire is as follows:
2.6.32.15 - froyo _ bravo _ V 5 root @ alhena #9
Unless the entire StareBurst rom thread is filled with battery life problems it's not kernel related. Probably a bad app/setting or you imagening battery issues.

I dont think I am imagining it, you see on the Default software my phone was capable of a day to a day and a half.
Now on starburst its laggier and the battery just runs down. In 15 minutes of standby the battery ran down 2% just doing nothing. (I have a class 4 8gb Kingston SD)
Now, im not saying it is nothing I did but still a helpful comment or suggestion would be appreictaed as opposed to an acusation of imagining things.
I answered your question and gave two other options. From there searching will help you. It's not the first question about battery issues.

Sorry, I didn't think that reply through as I was rushed. I will try searching some more and checking my apps for battery drain issues.

I have been trying to find a rom that will allow me to record in 720p. Every time I try it records for two seconds and just closes. No fc just boom back to home screen. Does it with aosp and sense. Any suggestions as to why? Is it a rom thing or what?

Regular sense roms are able to. Aosp isn't. Idk about sense 2 and 3
Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.

If you want all the functions from our phones use the software built for them. OTAs all work. If your going to use ports, or aosp don't expect everything to be perfect.
I get 720p video on team nocturnal's kinged shooter e3d rom. Haven't had any problems on it yet, although the camera scene settings don't all work.

I've heard that a slow sdcard causes issues.
Yeah I am using evolved rom. How can I tell the ad card speed?

SD class. If you are using a stock SD card, it is class 2 at 2 MB/s (write speed). That is a slow crawl. The top SD cards claim class "10". But all SD cards are not made equal.
Link to wikipedia article telling about class speeds: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Speed_Class_Rating
Class speed is usually written on the card itself.
Hmm my sd card says class 4. So I don't think that's the issue.

Ok well you haven't exactly explained your situation enough, we can't help you if you give us nothing.
What other roms have to tried? This will tell us if its a problem with the phone, the rom, or the card. Have you tried another card? How much free space does your card have? Have you error checked it? What kernal are you using? Have you tried a different kernal? Have you tried the stock rom?
I've tried many ROMs and the only ones with true 720p support are Stock ones. Wish it were different as I'm a fan of AOSP roms.
I am running MikG HTC Sense 2.1 + 3.0 v2.56. It's a stable ROM, lots of perks and everything works.
He's up to v2.58 now. Here's the link:

Good luck.
I flash quite a few Tom's and kernels etc but is it possible to damage hardware doing this? Recently my phone got really slow and laggy so thought if I do a full wipe it would be fine
Nope!
Flashed a few different Rome and stuff and still slow
Its only slow when unlocking and scrolling through homepages, apps seem to run OK but things like pulling the status bar down is a slooooowwww!!
Wasn't sure if one of the cores could be damaged or gpu or memory and can't first d any test apps to find out if there's any failure
Anyone know why it might be like this? I usually use aokp with nova launcher and trinity kernel

The act of flashing lots of ROMs and Kernels isn't going to damage your hardware. But there is a higher chance that you've crossed up some things or made a bad combination and flashed to your phone that's making it slow.

Hi there,
Since last December, I'm using last version of Oxygen, but during this time I have an issue with camera. Every time I'm started the camera an error "SDcard is unmounted" occurs. I had to unmount, mount again my sdcard and really fast switch to camera application, sometimes two or free times in order to take a photo.
Now I'm trying to find stable ROM for daily use, but I see that developers gone from desire device, only few ICS ROMS, and as I red there isn't enough stable ROM for daily use.
What do you recommend? It could be JB, ICS, GB, the first goal it have to be stable without any major issues and without Sense.
Is way to have a stable rom? I don't want to come back to stock.
Im using EUROSKANK CM 7 rom, no problems, all is working. For me this is best stable rom.

I m liking This more and more after using for couple of days. Stable as hell.
I highly doubt that Oxygen rom is the one giving you issues as I find it one of the most stable roms out there. Have you even considered reflashing the rom and start clean again?
Anyway since you are on the lookout for a new rom then you can try the suggestions the the commenters above.

Thanks everyone for answers,
I'll reading about ROMs mentioned in your answers, for now Nick's Phone looks the best.
About my issue, I reinstalled Oxygen in January, with _total_ wipe: STOCK -> ROOT -> S-OFF -> Oxygen. Now I'll try to check my SDcard (it is 4Gb ADATA class 6, and is old like a phone) I will try to dd if=/dev/zero on this card, maybe this is card issue not rom.

I have just recently switched to MIUI (GB based) and can't be happier about the switch.
The response is super quick and everything I wanted works (well, maybe except scrollable widget, but that's apparently a problem with GB rom), highly recommended!
Thanks for your reply. Im using an-droid now for about two months. Its nice clean rom but since I installed much apps its laggy. It also crash two times a week. I think it will be worse when I install runnymede because all the extra eyecandies. Are there better alternatives?

Alex-V HD rom with int2sd support. It's hybrid 2.1-3.0 sense rom but it works much better than all 1.9 and 2.1 roms.

Well I tried all the ICS and JB ROMs but trust me, they are not for daily use. Random reboots, phone freezing and many other little niggles are a pain.
Then I tried the eye candy Sense 3.5 ones. Though everything works in them stability is an issue. Freezing, bsod etc are few issues I faced.
Back on to the stock GB with app2sd support (made by nlooo) and am happy.

I heard about it too. Only issue I found was that the development on it was stopped and so was apprehensive of the support.
Also the OP of the ROM says few users are facing freezing issues while an incoming call. I had this issue earlier too on the RSK teams ROM.
Anyway will give it a shot over the weekend.

I've had good experiences with Runny Rom too. I've used Runnymede AIO for a long time and also had those freezing issues you mention, but it's not only caused by the ROM itself directly. Most likely it's caused by the SD card. I've used 2 different 16GB class 6 cards (Samsung and Sandisk) and they both caused problems. I'm using a class 4 32gb sandisk now I didn't have any single freeze yet.
But, like said before, those sense 3.5 ROMs are quite heavy, probably the most heavy for your SD card. For stable and lagfree sense I wouldn't advise them. It might work, but can also cause a lot of problems.
I've never been a big fan of it and I have never tried it. Most of the new roms now a days seem to require this. Does using A2SD contribute to making our devices less laggy? Sense 3+ and ics roms usually make my phone lag and its just in general a ****ty experience. While other people are reporting success and lag free.
A2SD makes that much of a difference?

It moves the cache and dalvik cache to the SD card, freeing up internal memory, therefore giving more space to use, so yes, it is a big deal.
