I just recently went back to stock because I was having data issues while my phone was rooted. The problem that I'm having right now is when I searched for a software update using the phone, it didn't find anything. I'm currently running 4.1.1 which I know prior to rooting my phone I was on the 4.1.2 version that includes multi-window-control (MWC).
Any suggestions?

I bought this phone unlocked and to my surprise it also came rooted. I was just wondering if when the phone is rooted, would I still be able to recieve and download ota updates or does telus block updates because of root?
Also, Ive seen all the topics on how to unroot, but I dont really know which method is the easiest. Can anyone recommend the easiest method from their point of view?
Thanks in advance!
Depends on how the phone was rooted. If it was rooted via some exploit without flashing the entire ROM, it's okay. Generally as long as you have stock ROM and stock recovery you will get OTA. But if it was rooted via flashing a new ROM, then no.
You can always flash back to everything stock anyways.
Ahh i see. Well.. I really don't know how the person who owned it before me rooted it and im a noob at flashing. But here are some details.
Baseband Version: T989DTLKJ3
Kernel: 2.6.35.11
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.TLKJ3
Everything looks like stock to me
I just checked out my stock, 2 week old s2x details and they match that of your phone. I dont think you should have anything to worry about.
hi,
due to an issue with my phone's camera, i had factory reset my note2 and downgraded to 4.1.1 original phone setting from 4.1.2. my concern now is, after moved down from 4.1.2 to 4.1.1, already few days and when i check the software update, it tells my phone is already with the latest version. Will not the phone re-upgrade back to 4.1.2 again and i have to manually do the upgrade? what if future version upgrade like 4.2? or 4.x??
pls help.
thanks and regards

You might have downgraded to a 4.1.1 rom of a different country.
If you wanna upgrade again then flash the latest rom for your country.

I bought a phone on eBay to use on the Ting (Sprint) network. It is a used Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 4.0.4 which I thought was strange as I know the S3 has been updated past this. So I started looking around and I found a program called SuperUser which has root options, then I found a file called TeamEpic-Root-from-Recovery-v5(1).zip in the root of the phone. There is a firmware update available but when I try to apply it a screen comes up which says installation aborted (I can get more info if needed on this).
I have been using Android phones for years and never been interested in rooting. I'm worried that I will not be able to activate this phone on July 8 when I can get out of my Verizon contract. And I'm concerned that I won't be able to update it past 4.0.4.
Could anyone advise how I can get this back to stock? Thanks in advance.

Can't apply OTA update if it has custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM. Has to have stock Samsung recovery. You can try this post-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099. Follow instructions very carefully. This should do the trick to get you back unrooted, with stock recovery, and updated firmware to MD4.

Look in the Android Development section and there is a ROM Restore so you can restore to unrooted stock

Starting with your link and checking some basic firmware flashing instructions I was able to get it back to stock. The counter is reset and it says it is genuine samsung After doing this it then updated to JB. Happy now, thanks so much for the help.
So here's the scenario. I've gotten a replacement phone from AT&T and it came with 4.1.2 installed, but now it has 4.1.1 because of a botched Nandroid restore (incoming texts began to disappear, then the ENTIRE TEXT THREAD did. And never reappeared.). So I unrooted and hard wiped, unfortunately to 4.1.1.
Now I'm trying to figure this out: How can I root the replacement, perform a Nandroid restore (from old phone to replacement) so that everything is intact, and then upgrade the phone from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 after it's been rooted? Obviously the OTA update won't work at that point, and despite searching this board and countless others for hours, I can't find anything that says how to do this in terms that I can understand, as all I've ever done is root stock. I downloaded loserskater's rooted stock 4.1.2 ROM but I certainly don't know what to do with it.
I'm running 4.2.2 on my 10.1 and it is rooted.
It was done long ago and I really do not need the device being rooted anymore.
Not sure how to unroot it so I can upgrade to 4.42.
It might have been posted but I couldn't find it.
Help appreciated.

Beware that some of us believe that upgrading to 4.4.2 via OTA or Kies or installing Stock 4.4.2 as they come is unsafe!!!
New stock 4.4.2 comes with new bootloaders!!
So for us the safest way to upgrade is use one of the many Rom develop in our forrum. Yes I understand many think the opposite, safest is to stick with Samsung Stock as it come from factory. It is up to you.
A few had claim that after you go back to 4.2.2 Official Stock, their programing counter had clear and they in fact go OTA or Kies to upgrade to 4.4.2. Personally I do not know. I do not use Kies.
But here is an example of such Claim:
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 > Galaxy Tab 3 General > KitKat Update official for GT-P5210 available => http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-3/general/kitkat-update-official-gt-p5210-t2871073
Good luck with your upgrade, I hope nothing happens with those new bootloaders in the future. Who knows maybe you will not be able to clear your counter again! I do not know I am just kidding.
Thanks, that worked, now I am on 4.4.2.
Just a crazy question, what if I want to go back to 4.2.2, can it be done?

You have not said what type of TAB3 10 you have. 3G, wifi or 4G. Nor said what procedure you follow. Ota, Kies or one of the roms develop here.
I do not know if installing 4.4.2 with OTA or Kies can prevent you to go back.
In my case I use 4.4.2 Pimpdroid 3Beta. I found it smooth and nice. But I got upset with 4.4.2 limitations and went back to 4.2.2 with stock 4.2.2. Without any problems.
