Does anyone know how to turn off notifications in Yahoo! Mail? Before this new version, you could go into "Settings" and turn it off completely. Now it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

In yahoo: Open the side menu, scroll all the way down to the bottom, tap settings, account settings, notification settings. There you can uncheck "show in status bar"
-or-
in android settings, application manager, tap y mail, uncheck "show notifications"

Hello all, tried to find out how but I could not get my Outlook account that is sync'd through gmail off my phone b/c I would like to try that Seven app. Does anyone know how I can remove it? Thanks
If it's setup through Activesync open it from the start menu and go to Menu --> Options and deselect E-mail.

I think you have to delete it, not deselect it.
In ActiveSync's options, highlight the account you want to remove and hit the delete button near the bottom.

Aah, yep, that would delete the whole account (just saw the option, wasn't aware of it before) and deselecting would remove the e-mail messages but maintain the sync/setup.
Perfect, thanks a lot guys!
I've seen references to this posted elsewhere, but never a solution. I'd like to only sync the "my contacts" group of contacts from my gmail (really google apps, but should work the same) account, rather than "all contacts". I can not find an option to change this. Any suggestions?
You can go to Contacts and hit Menu -> Display Options -> Google -> Check any groups you want. At least those are the exact instructions for AOSP contacts. It may be slightly different for the HTC contacts, but it should be close enough.
That doesn't work, at least for me. There is no "contacts" section on the EVO, only "people". In "people", pressing menu does not bring up a "display options" option. The only thing similar is "view", but that does not give the option to choose to only sync "my contacts" instead of "all contacts".

just go to People then hit Manu and there is a View option, there you can chose with contacts you want to display.
I don't think that solves it either. This has been a major sore spot since HTC removed the option to sync only certain groups in 2.1. It was a horrible decision and HTC won't respond to the numerous complaints about it.
All you can do is narrow down the number of contacts by going to the People app and doing the following: Menu > View > select "Only contacts with phone numbers" and only "Google"

That does not solve the problem. See my previous reply.
+1 for CyanogenMod.

any news on this? I didn't want to start a new thread even though I have a HCT Desire. I'm really happy that gmail syncs the contacts so that I can't loose any, but I would like to sync only one specific group.. not all of them..
thx.
If you go into your Gmail account on the computer you will see a contact tab on the right. than you can create or sync whatever you want.
Hi all, these are the last tweaks that are not automated on my Tilt 2 when I flash a new ROM. Does anyone know where the setting is to change these? I have a provision XML for Gmail but I don't think those two settings can be changed through the provision file can they?
I suspect these may be buried in a data file somewhere and unaccessible, but I thought I would ask. Thanks!
1. "Attempts before giving up" -- Go into Text Messages/All Messages/Menu/MMS Options, set "attempts before giving up" to 4
2. "Send/Receive when I click send" - Setup GMail - Go to Inbox, Menu/Tools/Options/click *Gmail, Click Send/Receive Schedule, click Advanced Settings, Yes, Turn off "Send/Receive when I click send".
3. "Save attachments to storage card" - In the Gmail Inbox, go to Menu/Tools/Options, click Storage, and select to "Save attachments to storage card".
4. "Show Next Message" - In the Gmail inbox, click Message at top, click "Show Next Message", and turn off "Display Account Picker".
5. Location Service enabled - On the Settings Tab, click Location, turn on Location service.
how do you change the email notification tone??? its driving me cazy and i cant seem to figure out how or where...
Do this...
Click on the menu button while in Gmail (this is for Gmail, I don't use the included email service)
Go to Settings
If using more than one Email account select the account you want to make changes to
Scroll to the bottom of the settings list
Select "labels to notify"
Select inbox or priority inbox whichever you use (you can set up each to have different notifications)
A popup box will appear
Place a check on the email notifications if it isn't already checked
Select ringtones
Choose whatever ringtone you may want and hit ok
on the popup select ok
you have now set your gmail to whatever ringtone you may want
If you have any problems let me know.
Thank you very much that worked!

Your welcome, and I'm glad that it worked for you
When I compose a text message and start typing on the recipient, it's showing me email address etc, how can I turn that off and just show their phone numbers? Thanks.
One thing you might try. Go into your contacts app. Tap the 3 dots in the top right and at the bottom of the pop up, select "Contacts settings". The option of "Only contacts with phone numbers" should now be visible. Put a check in the box and see if this helps.

I did that but it's still showing up the other contacts when I compose a new text message.
