how do you change the email notification tone??? its driving me cazy and i cant seem to figure out how or where...
Do this...
Click on the menu button while in Gmail (this is for Gmail, I don't use the included email service)
Go to Settings
If using more than one Email account select the account you want to make changes to
Scroll to the bottom of the settings list
Select "labels to notify"
Select inbox or priority inbox whichever you use (you can set up each to have different notifications)
A popup box will appear
Place a check on the email notifications if it isn't already checked
Select ringtones
Choose whatever ringtone you may want and hit ok
on the popup select ok
you have now set your gmail to whatever ringtone you may want
If you have any problems let me know.
Thank you very much that worked!

I have installed the ShadoW_2.0 TE ROM, and went to set up my Gmail email via IMAP. However, Windows 6.1 doesn't seem to want to allow me to set this account up manually, just via automatic config. Unfortunately, the auto config for Gmail sets the account up as POP3, not IMAP...
Am I missing some secret switch here to tell WM6.1 Messaging not to use auto-config settings? The onboard Help file says that you can turn off auto-config, but I can't seem to find that setting...?
from the gmail setting page......
To configure IMAP for your Windows Mobile 6 device, just follow these steps:
1. Enable IMAP in your Gmail account settings.
2. Open the Start menu and select Programs > Messaging > New E-mail Account.
3. Enter your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com') in the E-mail Address field.
4. Uncheck the box to get settings automatically from the Internet and select Next.
5. Select Internet e-mail as your email provider in the drop-down menu.
6. Enter your name as you want it to appear in sent emails.
7. Enter a descriptive name for the email account and select Next.
8. Enter 'imap.gmail.com' in the Incoming Mail Server field.
9. Select IMAP4 as the Account type from the drop-down menu and select Next.
10. Enter your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com') and password.
11. Select Next.
12. Enter 'smtp.gmail.com' in the Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server field.
13. Make sure that the Outgoing server requires authentication box is checked.
14. Select the Advanced Server Settings link.
15. Make sure that the Require SSL box is checked for both incoming and outgoing emails.
16. Select The Internet as the network connection from the drop-down menu.
17. Select Done and then Next.
18. Select how often you want your phone to send/receive emails from the drop-down menu.
19. For more download options, select the Review all download settings link.
20. Select Finish.
Thanks, but...
You're right, and quite quick. However, on the ROM that I'm running (don't know if this is a WM6.1 or ROM-specific issue), I don't have the checkbox for step 4.
4. Uncheck the box to get settings automatically from the Internet and select Next.
Help?
I found a workaround, albeit a bit sloppy. If you provide a non .com ending it will ask you if you want to check for settings (ie [email protected]). You then have to go back and change the settings when the account is setup.
Like I said, sloppy.
I am running Shadow 2.0 and using Gmail with no problems...maybe you need a hard reset!

Sloppy, yes, but it worked. Once I put in the different TLD at the end, I did see the option to auto-config or not. When I got past that, the rest of the Gmail IMAP config worked fine. Thanks for the help!

I am sorry, probably this is not the right place for this post, but i was curious about this thread. I always access my gmail through pop3, so what are the main differences and advantages of choosing IMAP?
Thanks in advance
Hi!
I wanted to set up my mail account on my TP2. After entering the data i saw that i just typed in my mail address incorrectly. After changing the address the account does not open anymore, nor can i delet it - it actually does nothing. Do you have any idea how i can delete it?
regards
click mail tab
press menu
press accounts
press accounts
highlight the account you want to delete
press Menu
Press delete
i´ve got the same problem with my german touch pro 2.
your tutorial doesn´t work for me. if i press menu it is going into incoming mails of the account.
any help??
if you press the 'x' after it goes into the account and do it all again, the email account you last opened will be highlighted and you will be able to delete it then
I noticed a bug with the email a few days ago. When i hit send and receive it says downloading 1/1001 and freezes for a while.
i don´t know why, but now i can tap&hold on the account and delete it.
maybe i had first to donwload my emails... thanks
I'm having problems with this... I have an account which isn't working, it won't synchronise (inbox empty) and it would let me delete the account. 'Delete' is grayed out.
p_shep, it will be grayed out if it is an exchange account, as it has to be deleted from another spot in the system. Are you using an exchange email account?
Jason
Nope, it's a Yahoo account :-/
It's like a point a click adventure game this...
Found out how to delete accounts:
FRom emails page
Menu -> accounts -> acounts -> menu -> tools -> options
(basically get to the email options page where the tabs 'accounts', 'message', 'address' and 'storage' are shown along the bottom)
Check the box 'display account picker when opening messaging'
Then click:
Menu -> accounts -> accounts
The account picker should be shown
Highlight the relevent account, and it's just menu -> delete.
What a mess. They don't make it easy do they?
So I have a question. I've got two accounts on my email tab on TP2. My gmail and my hotmail. Both are set to check but the only one that ever checks unless I manually tell it to check is gmail. Anyone else have this problem?
Open your Windows Live app.
Tap Menu.
Tap Options
Tap Sync Schedule
Set accordingly (you probably have this set to Manual at the moment)
Tap Done
Tap Done
Thanks muchly
Its been a week since i first got my desire and i am absolutely loving it but i have a few questions about it:
1. How do you turn off the vibrating feedback when dialing a number in the keypad?
2. In the Gmail app, how do i set it to auto check for email when i open it, currently when i open the app i have to manually press refresh to get it to check my inbox.
3. Another concerning the Gmail app how do i get it to check my inbox every hour?
I have the manual but not the phone (yet) I think I can help you with #1 and #3
1) Page 67 in the manual: "On the Home screen, press MENU and then tap Settings > Language & keyboard > Touch Input.
Other settings.
Vibrate when typing.
Select to enable vibration feedback whenever you tap a key on the keyboard."
3) page 73 in the manual: "Changing account settings
You can change settings such as the sync frequency and the types of information
synchronized, the kinds of notification you receive, and the way that account information is
displayed.
Press HOME > MENU, and then tap Settings > Accounts & sync.
Tap the account that you want to edit.
Edit the account settings."
I don't know about #2 but I hope this can help you with your other questions.
thanks for this.
will have a solid read when i get back from work later.
does anyone know the answer to no 2? its kind of annoying that the Gmail client doesnt check for new email when you open it?
the Gmail app is set up for push by default when you sign into your google account during set up.
it is a push mail client, and emails should come in as soon as they are received (or within a couple of minutes) as long as you have an active internet connection.
Hi All,
I found by accicdent that not all contacts from my gmail account were synced into the WildfireS.
I have tried > Setting > Contact data base > clear data.
The WildfireS then came in completely blank contacts (peoples) and sync again. Unfortunately, the contact that I am looking for still not sync into the wildfireS.
Thank you
Edmond
In the standard Sense UI, the contact list can be filtered. You can set which contacts you want to display and which not.
If the contact(s) you are looking for is (are) not in the right group, it will not display them.
Check if all is set well (I'm translating from Dutch, so I might use the wrong link titles):
- Open Contacts
- Press the 'Menu' button
- Press the 'Display' option (the 'eye' icon)
- In the list that opens, press on the 'Google' option to open the drop-down
- Select the right groups
Also, of course, check in Gmail if the contact you are looking for is in the right group there.
Hope that helps.
