Just bought my G2 last night. Quickly I rooted/S-off/unlocked it. I decided to stick with the stock rom as I don't like dealing with bugs, etc.. I would however like to be able to overclock using SetCPU. I need to flash an OCable kernel to achieve this with the stock 2.2 Rom yes? I tried to flash one via clockwork like i would flashing a new rom but I got stuck in a looping HTC screen and had to Nandroid back. I was reading up a little on bacon bits and it says something about pushing in ADB but I'm unfamiliar with ADB (think I used it to flash my Slide but that's about it). I tried searching around for kernel info but I couldn't find much. Any help is appreciated.
Pershoots kernel for CM roms only

Well I think I got ADB up and running and understand how to push but now it seems the baconbits link is dead...
Is baconbits my best bet?
No kernels for stock rom, CM 6.1.1 is stable try that maybe you'll like it, pershoots support that rom too
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Oh okay thanks. I might try that out. What known issues does CM 6.1 have? Does it support swype? I missed that feature when I Flashed it on my MyTouch Slide and ended up going with a rooted version of the stock rom.
You should take a look through the dev forum for some of the older threads starting with "[KERNEL]." I remember there being a couple that supported overclocking on stock (but it's been a long time). Also, the BaconBits link worked for me, so you might want to try it again (otherwise, I think there is an older version of it you can flash directly through ROM Manager).
As far as CM goes, I use it on my G2 and haven't had any major problems that didn't have workarounds. You can use Swype with it (either the official beta or there are some guides for backing up/restoring Swype from the stock ROM).
I bought a second hand xperia play a few days ago and now looking to whizz things up a bit with a new Rom.
It's already been rooted but looks to have a stock Rom running
Here's the details
2.3.4
Kernal version [email protected]#10
Build number 4.0.2.A.0.42
Basically I'd like a properly established Rom without the bloatwear, every time I open task manager theres about 15 things open when I'm not using them

Since it already has doomlord's kernel on it, it is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked, so you can probably use fastboot to install most roms. If you want compatibility for all the games, stick with GB. If you go to an ICS build, you'll likely have problems with certain games crashing, graphical errors, or gamepad not working.
I have no problems with the gamepad so far using DarkForest ICS.
I tried ICS++, I prefer Darkforest still. Probably sticking with it till the real ICS.
There are so graphical issues, but its pretty nice, no bloatware either.
If you already have a kernel with recovery, all you need to do is install the .zip file for the ROM through it.
Put the zip on your sd card, reboot the phone. While it boots and the light turns blue, press the back button.
I attempted to update the kernel earlier and bricked my phone, I the fastboot method and actually completed the flash, when I powered on the mobile it was just displaying a black screen,
After looking about I got the stock rom and flashed it, and its working again!
Now my mobile is on stock rom with stock kernel,
It displays a message saying theres a system update available but when I connect to pc I get some message saying the software cannot be installed because the device has unauthorized software on it, I also got this message before I flashed to the stock firmware so it seems that they know my mobile was rooted etc and cant update through their software...
Could someone kindly walk me through what I need to do to put doomkernel v13 and jokawild rom on,
Thanks

Flash stock ROM with flashtool, load fastboot, flash kernel image for DooMKernel, boot into recovery, clear cache, apply the update.zip for jokawild, done.
If you need more detailed instructions I'll write out a full guide later when I can use my home PC.
Actually, I was thinking of doing a full guide with pictures anyway.

I've got the notification for me to update to 4.0.4 popping up every time I use my phone. I was wondering how I could possibly stop the prompts from occurring, or if there'd be an easy way to revert my phone to fully stock...without me having a backup. I've got a custom ROM installed (Blazer v4.0), so I'm guessing the answer is a no, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.
My current system info for reference:
Android version 2.3.6
Baseband version S710.10 S.EL29
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EL29-CL852097
In the event that I'm not able to restore it to stock, any info on how I can update my android through a custom ROM or something would be awesome, and of course ROM suggestions would be wonderful.
Thank you all so much for your time.

It's funny that you posted this question because I was just about to do the same too. I just flashed my phone to Blazer's 4.1 GB rom and just got the system update popup 10 minutes ago. Same setup only my modem is FI03. I had downloaded this zip file "Disable.OTA.Updates.zip" but wasn't sure if it could be used on a GB rom (downloaded it for Blazer's ICS rom, coincidentally).
I was thinking of nandroiding and then trying it out, but figure checking XDA first to be certain would a better decision.

If you want to revert back to stock, just check the android development forum. there are many posts by rwilco with different versions of stock TouchWiz. You might need to go back a bit to find GB.
the one-click files are about as easy as it gets for flashing.
I started off flashing these stock rooted updates instead of waiting for the OTA updates and haven't had an update notification since.
of course I'm on CM10 JB nights now, but still no notifications...
p.s. backups are not required, just recommended.
Just flashed the disable.ota.update zip. Phone booted up fine.
You can also just accept the update. It won't work and your phone with freeze but after pulling the battery the annoying ota is gone. I think it may come back in about a week.

Yeah, so it hasn't worked. Still getting the ota update prompt, still running Blazer v4.0 for some reason. Any ideas?
Just accept the update. It will go away and you should still have your Rom.

You need to flash an actual rom. But before you do that backup anything important and then use calkulins format all before you flash whatever rom. If you don't wipe some stuff might be broken or killing your battery. Changing the kernel won't change your rom.

So, I need to flash a ROM. What about after that? How do I get from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4? Any specific ROM you would recommend for this quick hop?
Phone: HTC ONE V (Virgin Mobile, CDMA)
Radio: 1.00.00.0928
Recovery: TWRP 2.2.0
ROM: myOne 9.5
Hi! I'm having a very frustrating issue wherein my phone randomly restarts after booting it up. I installed the myOne 9.5 ROM and it worked fine. But then I tried to install a CM9 ROM and it started doing the restarting. After a few times of this it did actually boot, and seemed to be working, but restarted after probably 30 seconds and just kept doing that. So I tried to switch back to the myOne ROM, but it did the same thing. So instead I tried flashing a stock ROM and kernel. No dice. Same thing.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong here or how to get it working again. When I flash the ROMs I follow this order: wipe Dalvik, cache, system, factory reset, flash ROM, reboot to fastboot, flash boot image.
Should I be doing something differently? Thank you for listening and any help you can provide would be much appreciated.
Your problem is your radio. You need either to run the ruu for your carrier, which is what I had to do, or puck a Rom with ota support. I know that there are a few in the development thread that are confirmed working.

i don't think that it is the radio, because the ROM I was using worked just fine before I tried flashing the other one.
When you flashed myone, it is a sense kernel....they just added support for ota yesterday. Rhythmic Rom should work as well and may save toy from even needing to run ruu.

Thank you both for the help. You were right, it was the radio. For any other noob who finds this thread with the same problem AND the same phone (make sure you don't use this file if you're GSM): I fixed the problem by relocking the bootloader and running the RUU (search for: RUU_PRIMO_C_ICS_40A_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.08.652.6_Radio _1.00.00.0521_2_NV_VM_3.46_0503_PRL61008_release_2 62414_signed.exe)
This got me back to stock and reverted the radio to an older version that is compatible with most of the ROMs.
Again, thanks everyone for the help.
Great job.....now have fun!

Hi guys, sorry if this is stupid. I've flashed ROMs to 3 or 4 phones before this one and didn't have any issues with them, but this time around it doesn't seem so easy. My phone is a virgin mobile galaxy s2 (d710)
My phone has been rooted for a while and my stock ROM started randomly freezing up on me 4-5 times/day, so I finally decided to flash a ROM. The stickied post says to use odin mobile to flash to GB - EL26 Stock w/ CWM then to flash the ROM I want. Any ROM I tried flashing gave a status 7 error and aborted, EXCEPT for one ROM, and on that one I didn't even have working 3G? I believe this thread implied doing it any other way would be a hard brick.
I finally ended up using samsung's official upgrade tool in download mode to flash back to stock ROM, but it would be nice to get a custom on now that I've put time into it.
Can anyone point me in the direction I need to go?
Thanks
EDIT: I'm currently on the 4.1.2 stock ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50070702
I'm guessing you're trying to flash a KitKat ROM? Using Mobile Odin and EL26CWM will work when flashing 4.2.2 (and under) ROMs, but not KitKat. You'll need the last Blasphemy 6.6 kernel (just for the updated ClockworkMod), located in Original Development, for that.
In your case, you'll probably want to flash FJ12 or FL26 (if you can find it) modem zips, as you're on Virgin Mobile, and those are ICS Virgin Mobile modems, which you'll need to have working data/internet on Any AOSP ROM (JB modems won't work).
And this guide is assuming you're completely stock JB firmware, not rooted.

It looks like I'm on GB28 stock. I think agats caused a soft brick. I'm reflashing back to stock again now....I don't know what's going on with this phone.
Edit: Retried, got it to work this time. Thanks.
Is there a reason why you have to flash one recovery just to move onto another one? Would any recovery work installing any ROM? I'm a bit confused by all these different recoveries, since my last phone only needed one.

On this device, recovery comes bundled with the kernel. When you flash a ROM or kernel, the recovery that was on gets overwritten by the recovery that comes with the ROM/kernel you're flashing.
The reason everybody started using EL26CWM (gingerbread kernel) was due to a bug in the stock ICS firmware that was causing some people's devices to be permanently bricked when doing a factory reset.
Status 7 error when flashing is usually due to using a recovery that's too old.
So to answer your question... No, there is no "be-all, end-all" recovery for this device. Sorry [emoji20]
Glad you got it working though

Thanks for the help. Now that I'm running CM11, I don't have visual voicemail and it looks like I can't receive MMS.
Serious props to the people that use custom ROMs that aren't driven insane by bugs, I'm irritated by it already.
Know of any fix?
I don't know about visual voicemail... I'm flashed to Cricket and just use the built-in voicemail statusbar notification. Have you tried pushing the apk manually? I'm pretty sure I've seen Virgin Mobile fixes here in the d710 forum.
As far as MMS goes, have you tried messing with the APN's? I don't think MMS will work as-flashed, out-of-the-box for you without modifying them for Virgin.
If you're getting annoyed by bugs, have you given stock, rooted deodexed GB28 a try? When i get the TouchWiz itch, I run deodexed GB28, along with Agat's 1.3 kernel, TD's AIO mod, and Missing Link mod (both found in Themes and Apps of this forum).
I'm currently running Slimbean build 7 (4.2.2) as it's super lightweight, stable, and has good battery-life.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Do you know where I could find the voicemail apk?
Also, where can I mess with the APNs/what would work there?
The only reason I want a custom ROM at all is to be on KitKat. It honestly disgusts me a bit that google hasn't standardized versions....I don't get why every phone needs it's own ROM and never gets updated....
Thanks man.
Edit: I did find a MMS fix and visual voicemail all in one zip, but flashing it screwed the phone and I had to restore in recovery.
As far as editing APN's, I use Nova Prime launcher to create a shortcut on my homescreen to access them. Create shortcut to Activities/Settings/APNs and make your edits there.
Have you tried extracting the contents of the zip and manually applying those changes? Sorry but I wouldn't know anything else about configuring for Virgin. Maybe you could ask in that respective ROM thread, as I'm sure there are Virgin Mobile users there that have everything working.

Just for clarification, if I want to flash a new ROM when I'm already on a custom, do I need to use odin mobile to flash back to that GB rom with CWM before I flash the recovery and new ROM? Or can I just wipe and flash new recovery from the one I have now?

If the new recovery you are talking about is safe to flash from...and the one you are currently using is safe to flash from...then you can just reboot recovery and wipe cache and dalvik, then flash new recovery and then reboot recovery. Now you will be on the new, safe, recovery. So do your wipes ( data, cache, dalvik cache and format system ) and flash the rom.
If you want to go the mobile odin way..in case the recovery you currently have cant flash the new recovery you need, in order to flash the rom of choice..which im assuming is kitkat. As it needs the most up to date recovery to flash properly.
Then i have a simple guide you can follow to flash a safe kernel/recovery, in which you can then flash the newer recovery for flashing the rom you have choosen.
Link to guide. Post 5 is what you need to read.
If this sounds complicated or confusing..please post a link to current rom you wish to install and i will read the op and point you down the correct path.

It honestly isn't too difficult at all. All I see in the zip is a new apns-conf.xml (permissions are rw-r-r), 2 build.prop edits, and the deleting of telephony.db located in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases
