I'm a noob, and i have a boost samsung 4g touch, but its marked as an s2. With that being said i bought a Juiced systems adapter to plug into my phone to read memory cards from a digital camera i have. well just my luck it don't work, The guy who sells these adapters was very helpful in trying to figure out why my phone does not see the adapter, he rooted my phone, didn't help. returned it back to stock for me (un rooted) and he has gave up. Anyone have any ideas? Model SPH-D710, android version 4.0.4, build number IMM76I.FI27

Odd that the person put you on a Sprint build for Boost... but we can address that later.
According to this you have to have to be rooted - which being on Boost you should be using Boost's FI22 rooted one click , have Stickmount installed from the play store and not be trying to use any of the other functions. This includes not plugging in the power as it sounds as if it switches automatically to MHL mode.
Hope that gets you in the right direction.

Here's my situation:
SAMSUNG EPIC 4G
I've updated roms without problem many times since buying my phone. I am currently on 2.3.4, gingerbred eh06. I cannot get the usb to work with my pc at all. I'm assuming that since the phone still charges, the usb is functional? I was going to try a flash back to stock ec05, but cannot do this because I don't seem to have CWM installed. I did, don't know what happened to it. All it says when doing a cw boot is android system recovery <3e>
I tried to follow the link for rooting my phone without a pc, but cannot get it to work because I don't have superuser access. I did but don't know what happened there also??? Apparently gingerbreak doesn't work on 2.3.4 from what I am finding. I'm about at the end of my rope here and am looking for somebody to throw me a bone. ANY IDEAS.
I should also tell you that I know the cables I have are good. I have 2 samsung and 4 aftermarket cables and they all work. My wife has the exact same phone and works every time, with every cable. Of course her phone hasn't had any "custom" work done to it if you know what I mean...
Try Heimdall. It installs its own drivers and is more robust. Post 2 in Development stickie of how to fix a semi-bricked Epic.

Tried that just now, didn't work. When I tell it to list devices, it comes up as unknown device and won't install any drivers. tried my wife's phone and it seemed to work just fine. Maybe the phone can charge with a broken usb port?????? AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so you have no root and no odin/heimdall?
Yes it can charge with a bad port or a bad cable. Since the cables are good some of your usb port may be damaged somehow. Did you check for dirt or debris in the port?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Right, neither works. Its not the pc either. Tried win 7 64 and 32 bit, xp pro, ubuntu, joli os. Nada
Thought about tearing down phone and looking for dirt/debris. Just loking for all possibilities. I did fing a usb port on ebay for about 50 bucks, doesn't really look like something I could replace myself. ;'m assuming that it's soldered in.

I believe non warranty repairs like that are only $35 at Sprint.
Good job Sprint
Just left the Sprint store and they gave me a new phone. Tried like hell to get an upgrade to the Galaxy IIs, but no go. I gave them a boo hoo story and even told them i'd settle for the Nexus s, but they wouldn't budge there either.... Oh well. At least I got a new phone out of the deal. Kudos to the Sprint store and their employees though.
This happened to me at first too, then my phone stopped charging the battery. Maybe this is a sign of the port actually going out? Right now, I'm waiting on my replacement through Sprint without a charging phone.
I was able to finally get a good working combination of my brother's Evo cable and Odin 1.7 to flash back to stock for warranty work.
I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S 2 X. It looks to be Tmobile branded, is able to boot into stock recovery, seems to be SIM locked (my Virgin Mobile Canada SIM prompts me to enter a code), HOWEVER, and here's the fun part, when it boots up, it displays a Telus model number under the SGS 2X image, and says TELUS 4G on the boot screen.
Under Settings > about phone it says Model Number SGH-T989D, which I understand is a Telus Model Number, even though you'll see from the pictures it's Tmobile branded.
Did the previous owner root it, flash a stock Telus ROM, then unroot it and sell it to me? There is no Superuser in the app drawer, and I have no idea how else it would have become like this.
The main reason this is a concern is because the USB port doesn't work!!! It doesn't charge, it isn't recognized when plugged into a computer, nothing! I have to use a separate wall charger for the battery, and as of right now I have NO idea how I can root or do ANYTHING without a functional USB port. There is no sign of damage to the port, and the phone itself is in perfect condition. The previous owner will not respond to my questions.
I don't even know if I'm able to SIM unlock it at this point, because I don't know if the model and phone mismatch will cause any problems.
I do have some experience with rooting and flashing and all that fancy stuff, as I've played around with several other Android phones (SGS Vibrant, Moto Atrix, Nexus One, etc), and currently also own a modded Milestone and Amaze.
Pictures are attached below, ANY help would be appreciated!
***edit: When I boot into what I assume is stock recovery (vol up + vol down + power), I get:
Android system recovery (3e)
Enter: OK Key, Select: Vol UP / Vol Down
reboot system now
apply update from sdcard
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
(then it has some really funny thing I've never seen before on other phones in any recovery... see picture for detail)
What files can I flash using "apply update"? I figured out that to select an option I need to press the Home key. Is this stock recovery? I can't seem to find a complete guide on this! Help please!

Did you try more than one usb cable?
I have tried the one it came with, a Blackberry USB cable, and a standard one I found lying around. I have tried in a computer, and plugged into an adapter in a wall. I have tried it with the phone on, and with the phone off.
And you know how the stock Samsung charger notoriously "humms" when plugged into an outlet, but stops as soon as it's plugged into a phone? The humming stops when I plug in the microUSB to the device, but the battery doesn't charge, and continues to discharge.
*** I mean, it's possible that the USB port is damaged, but is it possible at ALL that it isn't being recognized because of some software bug? Is it a big issue that it's Tmobile branded but somehow has a Telus model number (which looks like it's stock Telus, not a custom ROM)?
well, it could be the screen has been busted and replaced with the Tmobile branded screen? Probably not, but a possibility.
have you tried to put a rom on a SD card, insert it and try doing a wipe, clear etc and then load up the new rom? for that matter, try doing a wipe etc and reboot without loading a new rom,
as for it showing as telus during boot and not tmobile, i don't think that's a concern. I've got a telus phone but when i boot up, it has t-mobile all over it due to the fact i'm running a t-mobile based rom.
Some one probably flashed the telus rom to that tmo device.
If the usb is not working and you have tried multiple cables, its busted. its pretty cut and dry. the computer should at least detect a device is plugged in.
Take a look inside the usb port and make sure it does not have any bent pins or some one didn't force a micro-usb cable in it upside down.
You could have a repair shop take a look at it. If its just the USB port they can replace that for around 30-50 bucks. It sucks but better than scrapping and starting over. There are usually places local that can do it, or I've heard of mobiletechvideos.com that seems to have a good record although I have never used them.

Giving thanks where thanks is due here, but thank you EVERYONE for taking the time to check out my post, all of your answers helped a little.
SOLUTION: (at least, what I think is the scenario)
It is indeed a Telus phone. Through IMEI checks, and of course the model number and boot screen, I found out it definitely is the T989D model. I'm certain of this because I bought an unlock code today, put in the IMEI, indicated it was locked to Telus, and the lock code successfully unlocked it, no problems.
The screen must have broken, and the previous owner replaced it, probably by himself. I think most likely by himself, and THAT'S why the [seemingly brand new and undamaged] USB port, and more recently I've discovered the [undamaged] microSD slot, are completely nonfunctional. He must have messed up a little while replacing the screen, damaging the connectors somehow. I have yet to tear it apart to check, but that's next on my to-do list.
So thanks everyone, I've gotten as much information as I need right now, and working toward a happy resolution
I have searched all over the internet looking to find a solution to my problem. My Samsung Galaxy Nexus I just purchased off kijiji (craigslist) was unlocked so I could use my Bell sim card with it, it was not completely wiped. Everything works except during calls I cannot hear anything on the front speaker, the speakerphone and headphone jack both work fine, but without resorting to those methods I cannot hear anything during a call. Most people I have read either return their device or reflash/reroot, I can't return this so I'm hoping to restore this phone to a more default state, hopefully resolving my issue.
I am hoping that I can follow this thread to get my phone back to stock, or the Super Users Guide. But before I do this I wanted to know, can I use either of these guides on my phone knowing it is already unlocked? Will they work the same, or will it brick my phone?
Also, will my phone remain unlocked so that I can use my Bell sim card in it? It does not seem to be branded. If it does not is it simple to unlock again so I can use my sim card?
I have the following specs:
Baseband version: I9250UGKL1
Kernel Version: 3.0.1-ga052f63 [email protected] #1
Build Number: ITL41F.I9250UGKL1
Thank you in advance, if anyone could even just say yes or no, or possibly point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

From my past research it sounds like the same problem I have which is the faulty headphone jack hardware. Apparently, it's a problem that has plagued Samsung on multiple devices; however, I had never heard of it until my phone stopped playing any sound from the handset.
The headphone jack is busted, for the most part, so it ALWAYS thinks the headphones are plugged in to the jack, so it turns off the handset and the mic. Only way I've been able to use mine is using a Widget called "Toggle Headset 2" which forces the phone to use the handset. This has been the only "solution" to fixing this that I have ever found that actually did something.
Hope this helps.

First and foremost, try what Gnomely suggested since that is going to be the easiest fix. If that doesn't work then I would suggest using the Galaxy Nexus ToolKit since it has almost everything you'll ever need for this phone including getting your phone back to stock! As for your phone, your phone is unlocked meaning that it can be used on any GSM carrier and will always stay that way unless you physically take the phone apart and replace the hardware
ITS NOT THE SW!! when i bought my first GNEX LTE verizon in december when it first came out, i had the same problem. i sent it to samsung USA and they fixed it and sent it back to me. and then next day it broke again and i call them right away and they fixed some part again and samething happened. after one day it stopped working and i got pissed off and call samsung and told them its a lemon and told them to give me a new device instead trying to fix the problem. and i hadto talk to a supervisor to get me a brand new device.
Rule out all software issues. If it is hardware issue check with Samsung if they would service it for you.
If you are comfortable with opening the phone see this thread. Search for YouTube videos to get the idea.

I bought the smart dock a week ago and could not get it connect to a TV/Monitor.
The smart dock has no problem. Tested the dock with SIII, it works fine.
I am using Sprint stock ROM, no root. Did a reset to factory default, still not working.
Tried this on many TV/Monitors. Had the issue confirmed with Sprint Store / Best buy Samsung experience store / Samsung Technical support.
I was asked by Samsung to send the phone for repair/replacement. I would like to check with your folks before doing that.
Android version 4.12, Hardware version L900.0-9.

Hi,
I also have the Smart Dock.
I plugged in my phone with all modifications in my signature.
Everything working.
Are you sure it is plugged in correctly and snuggly fit?

Yes, Phone has docking sound. All other ports are working fine.
I only had problems with TV when in comes to HDMI.
Howdy,
My wife's screen got shattered the other day. It turns on, but does not respond to touch at all. When I plug it in via USB to a PC it does not pull up as a drive (only charges). The phone is not rooted, runs stock Sprint firmware, and for some reason I am unable to get into the recovery mode (fast boot or whatever). I was thinking I could buy a female usb to micro usb male, plug in a usb mouse and use that to enable mass storage, but it looks like that isn't supported from what I could tell. Is that correct?
If it isn't supported, any other ideas to try to get data off of the phone?
Thanks!

It is not. I was under the impression that it required root which this phone does not have.

It doesn't. It is in developer settings.
You can not in no way get into bootloader/recovery?

"I think a ducks opinion of me is heavily influenced by whether I have bread or not."
For some reason no. When I try I just get the LG bootscreen and then it cycles as long as I am holding down the vol and power button. Works just fine on my LGoG which is rooted, etc.
Should Plan A not work...
I don't mean to get ahead of you, and I don't know of a way to retrieve your information without being able to select "Connect as Media Device" on your touchscreen...but if you plan on getting the same replacement device from Asurion (Sprint Insurance), you could very easily do a motherboard swap between your defective phone and your replacement.
Assuming you file a claim online or at your local Sprint store, just be sure (if asked) to NOT have your replacement device be sent pre-activated. That way, when your motherboards get swapped between the two devices, your original ESN will still be active in its new body. All of your original data (pictures, contacts, SMS, music, etc) will be there. Device works just like it did before, and you'll be sending back the new motherboard with your broken screen. You get all new parts, like your charging port, speakerphone, LCD\TSP, etc but you get to retain all of your information. Asurion doesn't care what ESN they get back, as long as it's the model\brand device they believe it's supposed to be (Optimus G for an Optimus G).
I've been repairing phones at a Sprint store for over 3 years, so if you cannot get your information retrieved and want to try swapping motherboards, please let me know. The swap would take you roughly 45 minutes if you've never done it before, or bring it to a local Sprint store. I'm sure there are also plenty of others on this site who could help as well, but good luck!

Ha, I just broke mine and had the same problem...I had ADB Debugging checked which allowed me to plug my device in and use a windows program called "MyPhoneExplorer" to bring up the OG screen on my desktop "remote control essentially" and navigate thru my phone like it was in my hand via mouse. Anyway, since you don't have debugging on you might be SOL. There may be other programs that are similar that will work without " Debugging " on. The only other thing that is relatively inexpensive you can do is just buy a new screen or an old OG someone is selling that has a good screen and LCD... I bought one, in good working condition and with a good ESN for $72 a couple days ago....Just swapped out the guts....and Whalla
