You guys see this at all...
It would be an App for any phone I think. Sounds like it would be kinda cool- maybe.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-205_162...g-system-turns-android-phones-into-computers/

these devices nowadays are worth more than netbooks and laptops on sale, might as well turn some of those files in there into a full operating system PC when cradled, they should design a processor that could do this with out any kind of lag or restrictions. Just buy a Monitor with USb ports ect and a built in burner player boom done.
look here at this video looks smooth sailing to me. anyone tried it yet?

Both of Canonical's new Ubuntu offerings look awesome. I wonder when Ubuntu for Android will be available - it looks like it would install as an app or add-on to the Android base OS somehow (maybe have to be cooked into a ROM?) whereas the Ubuntu Phone would be its own OS entirely. I'd like to try the Ubuntu Phone, but I have a feeling I couldn't fully part from Android and Ubuntu for Android would be ideal. Does the SGS2 E4GT have the necessary hardware (HDMI, USB host, simultaneous BT devices, etc.) support?

This makes the seeming lack of USB host capabilities that much more annoying.

Can't wait!
Yeah, count me as another person waiting on the edge of their seat for this. For me, this is a glimpse of the future. I'm hoping that within the next ten years, most people's primary computer will be their phone. The form factor may just be a simple matter of plug-and-go. If you want a laptop? Just dock the phone with a laptop body which has a hinged keyboard/display and additional battery. Want a desktop? Just dock it with a desktop body which has A/C power, secondary (high powered) graphics card, and other expansion ports. Need to be portable? Just undock and go. All your files, apps, etc... will be right there with you. Dreaming? Maybe. Ubuntu on Android (not the same as Ubuntu OS as the phone's primary OS) is essentially a rough form of this concept. I just hope Apple doesn't beat Linux to the punch. (Is there an Android fanboy smilie? If so, insert it here)

I don't think we will get a port on the e4gt. All of our legendary developers have adopted new phones. We have a few developers carrying on already created ROMs. But I believe this is the beginning of the end for major development for the e4gt.

Ubuntu is relying on the community to port it across Android.

Once they release the source we'll see it running on the E4GT

Is it possible to boot something like Ubuntu?

Can't you just take any old version ubuntu arm edition build, put
an android kernel in and boot it? Drivers are built into the kernel right? Other than there being no way to receive calls and texts unless, it don't see why it wouldn't work. You could probably make programs that allow you to send and receive calls.

Yes i believe only HTC does that feature but.
IMHO, its not worth it because they don't properly shut off and start to lose battery life. My mother's EVO will say its been running for 118 Hrs but yet she only has the stock battery and it drains crazy even with Juice Defender. And when you shut it off it takes only 1 second and usually anywhere from 2 to 8 seconds to boot.
Ill take Cm7 and have my Boot-ani disabled so it boots fast enough.

Android 5.0 in Q2?

So just straight to 5.0? Nothing in between? Yeah I'm calling BS. Sure eventually there will be a 5.0 just as sure as there will be a MacOS Duckbilled Lion-Tiger-Bear snow something or another, WWIII, and Modern Warfare 12. That doesn't mean that's what will come next. There is less than a 1% saturation of ICS. What company in their right mind would do something that stupid. There's no way in hell Android can compete with iOS if Google pulls a move like that. Didn't they just get through saying something about dealing with the 'fragmentation' issue - this in no way will help that cause.

They are just calling it 5.0 now, google hasn't confirmed anything to my knowledge so I bet you it will be something like 4.5 or something in between. Though it could be 5.0. Not that it really matters either way, it will still be a new update.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Yes, Honeycomb was tablet only, but now that they have unified everything with ICS, I don't see why they would break it into two separate versions again. Seems kinda backwards to me.
The next scheduled and/or rumored release is/has been dubbed, "Jellybean" -- however, that doesn't mean it will necessarily be listed as the fifth generation of the platform.
Perhaps, 4.5 or something in between.
Think of what was being suggested for the release of Gingerbread... folks thought it was 3.0, but they were wrong.
Besides, Google did state that in order to prevent further OS fragmentation, they were going to "slow down" production to 1 major update per fiscal year.
And look at the facts involving those of us with ICS being considered the 1%ers, that wouldn't be in their best interest to continue progression, while leaving those who are yet to receive ICS on 3rd generation Android handsets, behind.

We won't have too many ROM options, besides AOSP and TouchWiz, until CM10 is officially released. It's out for the international version, but only time will tell how long it takes to reach our version of the device.
If you want to take a giant risk, go ahead and flash ParanoidAndroid for the international version, but it'll probably hard-brick your device.

No offense, but I don't understand what you're asking. I say this because Android 4 is the same on phones and tablets. I have ASUS Transformer Infinity (TF700T) and this phone, and both are running Android 4.1. The difference are more device specific about screen size and particular hardware.
The mods I've seen are more about squeezing more functionality out the device, such a WiFi tether and mutli-app. They don't bring a more tablet experience than what the device already is in my use thus far.

Your cruelty knows no bonds. Making me search, LOL. Took me a while to find something that showed it. Most just videos on found on Youtube left in the ROM(s) in phone phone mode. This one showed it best that I was able find first.
But yes, I get it now. The sad part, only a few apps I use really have tablet interfaces. I like a similar interface across devices if possible. Although, it would be nice if K9 had a tablet UI. But I digress....
Haha sorry.

I like the idea of picking some apps to use in Tablet form. NFL Game Pass has a good tablet app; but I believe it's designed for 10" tablets, not the small ones such as Nexus 7. I like Chrome's interface on the tablet over the phone as well.
I have the ASUS Transformer Inifinity. Needless, some apps are interesting with their user interface.
Unfortunately, most apps on Android are still designed for the phone interface. As Android tablet get more popular, we'll see design interface incorporate the larger screens.
At the moment, I'm just happy to have a larger screen so I can see without having to zoom everything.
I hear ya but im constantly in settings and everywhere else hitting the back button a lot. Would be nice to have it all on 1 screen. Im gonna try and port PA. I would of bought or stayed with my evo. I want to see just how far I can take this lil big thing.

Was at wedding Saturday night and whipped it out & the table was in ahh at phone. Mostly iphoners. They were jaw dropped. Just wish I had hybrid mode to make them faint. Lol

I tried talking to the developer of PA, and all he said was to wait for CM10 to come out.

My coworker saw my GN2 and I heard a "GOD DAMN!!!!" Another coworker (Sprint GS3) and I like to tease another about his iPhone4 since he complains a lot about it.
Yea, the settings is a nicer setup on my tablet. Switching tasks is a lot faster too. I just hit one button instead of holding it down. But I like this phone's recent task list. It actually closes the programs. I really like the clear memory option too. Why they can't incorporate a clear cache, is beyond me, but something I would like in that menu area.
Im so impatient. I want to buy n7100 just to flash it. Lol but I guess I'll have too

Was recently at an indoor waterpark resort in PA mts and there was starbucks in there. 1st time I paid the baristas where like, hell yea a screen I can read bar code. Couple workers few days later where like, ah your the guy with the note 2? Can we see it.. lol

We can get it if someone ports it, which they have, it's probably unofficial, but they need to stomp out those bugs!
And I don't think there's much interest for ubuntu on this phone. But everyone should come and prove me wrong.

Looks like there are (or were) people working on porting this to our phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191235
