Can't you just take any old version ubuntu arm edition build, put
an android kernel in and boot it? Drivers are built into the kernel right? Other than there being no way to receive calls and texts unless, it don't see why it wouldn't work. You could probably make programs that allow you to send and receive calls.

Yes i believe only HTC does that feature but.
IMHO, its not worth it because they don't properly shut off and start to lose battery life. My mother's EVO will say its been running for 118 Hrs but yet she only has the stock battery and it drains crazy even with Juice Defender. And when you shut it off it takes only 1 second and usually anywhere from 2 to 8 seconds to boot.
Ill take Cm7 and have my Boot-ani disabled so it boots fast enough.

Who said anything about insurance? I'm very good friends with the store manager. He always performs a device exchange as long as it hasnt had water damage. And no, I'm pretty sure the issues I'm having are real as pressing the power button and having the unlock screen process done but captive buttons not work for 5 seconds or more, isn't a bad flash. Even on shubs one click to FF18.
Btw check list done.... settings are always left stock. Phone seems okay unless I can surgicly open it to check on internals lol... ! Yes I'm okay myself.other than my messed up fist from a drunk fist fight.
I've had the same issue with most ICS E4GT roms, and doubt it is anything user related. Don't pay attention to the trolls. I've fully wiped my phone and it made no difference. Hopefully someone can figure it out. It's pretty annoying having to turn the screen on a off twice to get the capacitive buttons working.

You can if you use the latest agat kernel built from source but remember not all developers have built in the new safe kernel! So you would always have to odin the kernel if it isnt baked with the ROM.
For reference, here is the link to source built kernel.

Ok heres my input. I believe that its a combination of software and hardware. Remember response time of soft buttons depends on how stable the rom is and also whats running at the time they where pressed. Ok say like you have a few apps it the background running and you turn off your screen. Once the screen come on the buttons may take a second to come on because the screen has more of a priorty than the soft button. Its all in how you look at it. And with apps running it slows that process down greatly because a combination of the proccesor and ram being used. Remember not notice but our soft buttons have a back light and they are press sensitive. So with them working together plus all the other stuff i explained timing would be off. But think about it. Lol is it really a depressing ordeal lol. I actually witness it and continue on without even thinking about it. Sorry for rambling lol
I believe what's missing is proprietary code and drivers that can only come from an official ICS/JB from HTC, and that's never going to happen.
So all the ICS/JB roms we have the same issues - camera/camcorder, 4G etc.
Maybe, but the only way we got this far was by the Devs writing their own drivers and code. It's not easy at all to do that.

some can be but thats usually the developers fault. The evo is actually a really capable device it just has stupid power requirements. im running jelly bean on my phone and its smooth as hell.
this is the ROM im running Click Me
anyway no its never gunna happen unless by some miracle HTC makes the drivers and the Stock ROM for the evo fully open sourced and HTC isnt known for there open source-ness. OR if some developer somehow finds the free time and motivation to code the drivers them self, The probability of any of these happening is very..very low so low if scaled on a percentage from 0 to 100 the probability dosnt even register a whole number.
thread closed. pointless to be here anymore. we all have our answers
OK so I have had my evo for about two years now and when I first got it I rooted it. then a while later ics came out and so did ics roms for the evo. but every time a rom would be stable enough for daily use there would be no more updates for it. even though there would still be bugs with it and it continues to be like that. so i mean whats up with that. would it be that its just not worth it to work on it or the devs don't have time? I just want to know out of curiosity.

From what I've read, I don't think the evo hardware can handle many of the features that came with the phone. I'm assuming that is what you are talking about though (4g, ffc, etc).
The problem is, HTC no longer supports the OG EVO. The source for drivers for things like 4G and the FFC were never officially released, so this is why those items in ICS and JB ROM's don't work. If you want a fully-functional ROM, stick with a Gingerbread ROM. Everything works-period.

I also see this a lot too. I wish I knew how to develop so I could make a driver that works for the front facing camera. That is the only thing holding me back from ics and i want it so bad. I think what happens is the dev gets a new phone and wants to work on the newer one, which there is nothing wrong with.

Yeah I want to know how to develop also. I've been working on learning coding and what not. Like the basic stuff haha
The ffc needs a proprietary driver. The one that works on GB can't even be modified to work on ICS(easily) it needs to be about 90% rewritten to function. Writing one from scratch would almost be easier and its not easy and extremely time consuming without a team of devs experienced in coding camera drivers.

Exactly, that's why sense 4.0 roms on the Evo 3d dont having working 4g or 3d because htc abandoned the evo 3d and are focused on the evo 4g lte. You can get an evo 3d a lot cheaper than a 4g lte. It is a damn shame I know, believe me.

We won't have too many ROM options, besides AOSP and TouchWiz, until CM10 is officially released. It's out for the international version, but only time will tell how long it takes to reach our version of the device.
If you want to take a giant risk, go ahead and flash ParanoidAndroid for the international version, but it'll probably hard-brick your device.

No offense, but I don't understand what you're asking. I say this because Android 4 is the same on phones and tablets. I have ASUS Transformer Infinity (TF700T) and this phone, and both are running Android 4.1. The difference are more device specific about screen size and particular hardware.
The mods I've seen are more about squeezing more functionality out the device, such a WiFi tether and mutli-app. They don't bring a more tablet experience than what the device already is in my use thus far.

Your cruelty knows no bonds. Making me search, LOL. Took me a while to find something that showed it. Most just videos on found on Youtube left in the ROM(s) in phone phone mode. This one showed it best that I was able find first.
But yes, I get it now. The sad part, only a few apps I use really have tablet interfaces. I like a similar interface across devices if possible. Although, it would be nice if K9 had a tablet UI. But I digress....
Haha sorry.

I like the idea of picking some apps to use in Tablet form. NFL Game Pass has a good tablet app; but I believe it's designed for 10" tablets, not the small ones such as Nexus 7. I like Chrome's interface on the tablet over the phone as well.
I have the ASUS Transformer Inifinity. Needless, some apps are interesting with their user interface.
Unfortunately, most apps on Android are still designed for the phone interface. As Android tablet get more popular, we'll see design interface incorporate the larger screens.
At the moment, I'm just happy to have a larger screen so I can see without having to zoom everything.

My coworker saw my GN2 and I heard a "GOD DAMN!!!!" Another coworker (Sprint GS3) and I like to tease another about his iPhone4 since he complains a lot about it.
Yea, the settings is a nicer setup on my tablet. Switching tasks is a lot faster too. I just hit one button instead of holding it down. But I like this phone's recent task list. It actually closes the programs. I really like the clear memory option too. Why they can't incorporate a clear cache, is beyond me, but something I would like in that menu area.
Im so impatient. I want to buy n7100 just to flash it. Lol but I guess I'll have too

I saw that the HTC HD2 which is basically the GSM version of this phone got a kitkat rom and I was wondering if this phone would get a kitkat rom...

If it were to get KK, it would be in an unofficial capacity and would not be fully-functional, since neither WiMax or the FFC would have working drivers.

Well Jellybean doesn't have those features either, but it doesn't stop me, and many others from using jellybean roms.

That's pretty much what I meant by my first post. Any update to KK won't be "official", but someone may still develop a KK ROM for it

I would dare say the EVO is legendary in its own right. It was the first 4G phone on Sprint, and was pretty revolutionary for its time and the first EVO in a line of good handsets to carry that name. The phone had a ton of development for it, and it still has support to this day. The biggest problem is the lack of driver support for both WiMax and the FFC, as I've already mentioned.

I am purchasing a new LCD and digitizer for my evo 4G (supersonic) since the screen got destroyed right before I bought my Evo 4G LTE (jewel). I wanted to see if there were any plans for a kitkat ROM for the evo 4G because I recently installed android 4.4.2 on my roomate's kindle fire and it runs amazing! I heard Google was trying to make kitkat run better on older devices. I think 4.4.2 could be great for the Evo 4G. I have high hopes that when I fix this phone someday there might be a 4.4.2 ROM available. I miss this device and the community that came along with it. Can't wait to get back into playing with this device again haha.

Biggest thing holding back kk is lack of a recovery that can properly flash it. I know of one guy who has already built kk but can't get recovery working.

Meaning it'll require a SE Linux enabled recovery, correct?

How hard would that be to implement? Is it possible?

I have no idea, honestly. I wouldn't think it would be all that hard, but I don't know what's involved with it.

At any rate, I'm willing to test such a ROM and recovery if they're ever created. I've got an inactive EVO that I've recently been feeling the itch to ROM.

I am STILL rocking a Evo 4g but running 4.1.2 Rom (for the Google NOW experience) and love it. Just got a second one and playing around with some Sense Roms that will have everything working. Some (Jellybread 1.4 for example) are very well designed with a Holo look and feel.
I don't see why it should be too hard to 'skin' a Sense theme to bring you Kit Kat goodness!!!

Is there any new updates on the CM 11 kitkat Rom unofficial? I've been itching to try this out and see the improvement on the OG EVO. I really want to see if kitkat can really run smooth on a low spec device. I've had a few JB ROMs that ran decently smooth.. with over clock at least.
I was trying to build a recovery with SELinux enabled for this, but it was too large. I read that I could probably change the compression to make the kernel smaller, but never got around to doing it, as my newer devices took precedence. I don't even remember where I left off with it, to be honest .

If you ever find it, I'm ready to test it.

If you do end up looking into it and need testers, I just successfully replaced the LCD and Digitizer on my OG Evo. It is ready to flash whatever I throw at it
