OK so I have had my evo for about two years now and when I first got it I rooted it. then a while later ics came out and so did ics roms for the evo. but every time a rom would be stable enough for daily use there would be no more updates for it. even though there would still be bugs with it and it continues to be like that. so i mean whats up with that. would it be that its just not worth it to work on it or the devs don't have time? I just want to know out of curiosity.

From what I've read, I don't think the evo hardware can handle many of the features that came with the phone. I'm assuming that is what you are talking about though (4g, ffc, etc).
The problem is, HTC no longer supports the OG EVO. The source for drivers for things like 4G and the FFC were never officially released, so this is why those items in ICS and JB ROM's don't work. If you want a fully-functional ROM, stick with a Gingerbread ROM. Everything works-period.
Sent using my HTC EVO 4G and a magic wand
I also see this a lot too. I wish I knew how to develop so I could make a driver that works for the front facing camera. That is the only thing holding me back from ics and i want it so bad. I think what happens is the dev gets a new phone and wants to work on the newer one, which there is nothing wrong with.

Yeah I want to know how to develop also. I've been working on learning coding and what not. Like the basic stuff haha
The ffc needs a proprietary driver. The one that works on GB can't even be modified to work on ICS(easily) it needs to be about 90% rewritten to function. Writing one from scratch would almost be easier and its not easy and extremely time consuming without a team of devs experienced in coding camera drivers.

Unless you can make a compelling argument with Htc and convince them to release source code lol (hypothetically) Another solution would be to buy an Evo 3d. They have fully functional 3.6 sense roms with everything working.

Exactly, that's why sense 4.0 roms on the Evo 3d dont having working 4g or 3d because htc abandoned the evo 3d and are focused on the evo 4g lte. You can get an evo 3d a lot cheaper than a 4g lte. It is a damn shame I know, believe me.
So as far as the og evo 4g goes the most up to date rom that can be used is gingerbread?

I just got this like the other day and it seems to be lacking in support, when I heard about this phone I was excited to get it...But now it seems like it doesn't have that much development, with other phones coming out. The only this is the smaller screen and weaker cpu/gpu compared to newer phones...This thing comes w/ 512MB Ram/Rom if im not mistaken, just like N1. If this is Oc'able it might go to at least 7xxx. Dumfuq is notorious for his G1 OC kernels, lets see what he can do for the MTS now...

I really like the phone's design, it sticks out from the other phones I had. it might not be the best thing in the market but it's defiantly a major improvement from my G1. Even on stock this feels a lot faster than when I had it oc'd to 614MHz.

I agree totally. This is a wonderful improvement over the G1. Handles things better too. When I got a text when I was watching YouTube on the g1 I would have a blank screen for like 30secs cause I had SMS popup then I could reply but the video wouldn't play I would have to start over. Not with this little power house those issues are gone.

I think we have a few here. I mean Wes and Eugene are here but may have gotten the vibrant and there are a few other new guys here and there. But they have said they will still work on the slide. I think whats holding alot of folks back is the lack of ota to use and port plus this baby is locked pretty tight still even after root but that won't stop anybody. I mean we don't even have a custom kernel or hard spl and it will take much longer because of the security. And, yes, cyanogen is working on his froyo port still and is having road blocks which is holding up future stable additions. It's a great phone still and am happy with slidemr1 v4 rom with a2sd and perflock off and set at a constant 600mhz. JIT would be nice like in froyo, would help a bit but stability and lack of 100% fuction in a2sd ports makes it hard to use froyo daily (and due to fact I'm an app horder). But yeah, the HTC blaze/emerald (the one with the qwerty kb) l will be tempted if things are still this slow by the time late autumn/early winter rolls around.
That's exactly what I am thinking. It is locked up pretty tight and hopefully our ota update to froyo will be a game changer for it and we can move forward.
Sent from my MR1 V4 Remix 3G using XDA App
I can say, that lack of leaks and ota is holding us devs back. If there was a leak froyo, i would be able to build jdfroyo with no problem. Hopefully i will be able to port something i will make for the gsm hero.

well as you may know thunderbolt hardware is almost the exact same as the evo so with a thunderbolt port it makes hdmi support on sense 2.0 roms possible and along with better camera support and also makes 4g possible since this will be the first port coming from a phone with 4g support im am looking forward to this
I am really looking forward to a thunderbolt port for exactly the reasons mentioned above. Basically a revised evo.

I am working on this, but i dont have alot of time. I Have it in my head on how the files should be,but havent goton to it yet, ill try tomorrow, but most likely(likely, not an eta) this week end i should have some progress(progress?)
its based off of froyo, so stock evo kernel will work.
First of all the thunder bolt is not that much alike to the evo, its a desire HD variant.
Different processors, diff 4g (no 4g on this port) and no HDMI is on the thunderbolt. Just because a phone has a 4.3 screen and is made by HTC doesn't mean its the same as the evo ...
The only thing this offers is CDMA sense 2.0.

Yeah, and from what i understand they are really busy making ports, and some are probably trying to get the 2.3 with sense ported, as that would be huge for people.

I'm pretty sure the Thunderbolt has no HDMI output, just DLNA. Where it wirelessly transmits audio/video to compatible TV's and devices.

I wouldn't really worry about a thunderbolt port because there really isn't that much it had to offer. Evo already has a few Sense 2.0 roms and several excellent ports that offer somethings not available on the standard Evo rom. Plus htc is coming out this year with Sense 3.0. That is what I would like to see.

Just flash Virus Inspire 4G its the same version and it has landscape which the thunderbolt does not. I've created a version of Viruses ROM in my HD thread you may want to take a look at it.
What do you like about it? Are most of the bugs fixed such as will it run smooth with hardware 0004? Is it secure I know it has a wallpaper hub for downloading things wondering if it is virus spam spyware free?
I have used it in the past didn't like the bugs. I liked a lot of the features tho was wondering how secure and stable the latest build is.
Reminds me of CM with a twist.
I like MIUI a lot. I got bored of CM7 but didn't want to go to Sense, so I tried it out. My first flash was fairly buggy, so I went back and wiped multiple times & flashed again. Everything has been running smoothly since, no bugs. I feel it's secure. I only use the Theme Manager for certain elements, the rest of the theme I provide myself. You can also get themes from the miui-dev forums or at miui.us. The UI is constantly changing with each release, making theming a pain in the butt. Try it out and I think you'll like it. When CM7 stable came out, I said I was going to switch back. Still haven't.
I really want to try miui, I've heard alot of great things about it. But the lack of 4g kills me If and when it is ever apart of that rom I will be trying it out for sure.

I have 4g in my area but rarely use it, so it doesn't bother me. The Chinese don't have wimax, so they don't have a reason to add it. Unfortunately this leaves us without it as well. I've heard that the devs on our end have asked the Chinese if they could work on it independently. If the rom was open sourced I'm sure it would have already been implemented.
If it ever does get 4g, it will definitely be more widely used.

MIUI is the best AOSP ROM to me... I tried CM7 but the battery life was horrible for me, with MIUI out the box the battery life is great, now when I undervolt and use SetCPU I can get over a day on one charge.
I believe what's missing is proprietary code and drivers that can only come from an official ICS/JB from HTC, and that's never going to happen.
So all the ICS/JB roms we have the same issues - camera/camcorder, 4G etc.
Maybe, but the only way we got this far was by the Devs writing their own drivers and code. It's not easy at all to do that.

some can be but thats usually the developers fault. The evo is actually a really capable device it just has stupid power requirements. im running jelly bean on my phone and its smooth as hell.
this is the ROM im running Click Me
anyway no its never gunna happen unless by some miracle HTC makes the drivers and the Stock ROM for the evo fully open sourced and HTC isnt known for there open source-ness. OR if some developer somehow finds the free time and motivation to code the drivers them self, The probability of any of these happening is very..very low so low if scaled on a percentage from 0 to 100 the probability dosnt even register a whole number.

I would dare say the EVO is legendary in its own right. It was the first 4G phone on Sprint, and was pretty revolutionary for its time and the first EVO in a line of good handsets to carry that name. The phone had a ton of development for it, and it still has support to this day. The biggest problem is the lack of driver support for both WiMax and the FFC, as I've already mentioned.

I am STILL rocking a Evo 4g but running 4.1.2 Rom (for the Google NOW experience) and love it. Just got a second one and playing around with some Sense Roms that will have everything working. Some (Jellybread 1.4 for example) are very well designed with a Holo look and feel.
I don't see why it should be too hard to 'skin' a Sense theme to bring you Kit Kat goodness!!!

I have no idea, honestly. I wouldn't think it would be all that hard, but I don't know what's involved with it.

Is there any new updates on the CM 11 kitkat Rom unofficial? I've been itching to try this out and see the improvement on the OG EVO. I really want to see if kitkat can really run smooth on a low spec device. I've had a few JB ROMs that ran decently smooth.. with over clock at least.
I was trying to build a recovery with SELinux enabled for this, but it was too large. I read that I could probably change the compression to make the kernel smaller, but never got around to doing it, as my newer devices took precedence. I don't even remember where I left off with it, to be honest .

If you ever find it, I'm ready to test it.

If you do end up looking into it and need testers, I just successfully replaced the LCD and Digitizer on my OG Evo. It is ready to flash whatever I throw at it
