[Q] Volume (Ringer/Notification Linked) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I've tried numerous apps and they all seem to fail in doing this.
I want the option of linking my ringtone and notification volume levels together.
I got so used to CyanogenMod for years doing this by default, but Sammy took that away from us - again. In the past, certain apps were able to put it back in, but it seems the coding with regards to our volume control is not currently able to be changed.
Other than flashing an AOSP-based rom, is there any way to do this?
Thanks!

What could be stopping ringer lock & caller ID apps from working?

(Take 2):
THE PROBLEM
I've been having serious problems getting ringer control apps to work on my Desire (stock MIUI GB rom). I've tried one after the other after the other, and they just don't work. Some were the type that supposedly locks the volume at a certain level, so that it reverts to the set level if you try to change it (or pops up a notice requiring permission to change it). Others I've tried attempt to escalate the volume to maximum, when the phone rings. Now here's the deal....
WHAT IT ISN'T
At first, I thought it was the apps, just lousy engineering. It's not.
Then I thought it might be the ROM. It's not.
How do I know? Because at one point, I tested three "escalating ring" type apps, and they all worked.
WHY IT WORKED
I can't be sure that there's a link here, but in an effort to fix the problem, I started messing about with Superuser.I dont' recall, but I think I may have changed my stock MIUI version of Superuser for another (maybe it was Superuser SU). This other Superuser app (which I no longer have), had app permissions that I went and fooled around with. It was some point after that, I noticed the escalating ring type apps worked.
SO WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?
...And now they don't work anymore! So what changed now? I don't know. A lot. I had to reflash the (same) ROM, after an accident. I installed more apps. etc.
ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM
I used Autorun Manager and Autostarts to disable services and receivers of startup programs. Then Titanium Backup to freeze even more programs entirely. This brought everything crashing down, and reoccuring boot loops etc, but throughout I tested the escalating ring programs, they still didn't work!
THE CALLER ID PROBLEM
At the same time, I also want to install an instant caller ID program - and I must have tried about 8 or more of them. None of them work. But here too, I'm now getting the impression it is not the fault of the apps themselves. Because (all but one) won't even pop up a notification box. My thinking is that something is blocking ringer volume control apps, and that same thing is blocking caller ID notification boxes.
SOLUTIONS?
Is it a permissions problem? I have Superuser Elite, but it has very few apps listed who's permissions you can change. I've frozen the firewall and even the data monitoring programs, etc. I'm not sure what else, as a user, I can do to ensure that no other program is blocking system permissions for ringer volume control, or caller ID notification popups. (I have no problem with notification popups in general).
UPDATE: Well.... no one got it, so the prize goes unrewarded!
No, it goes to me. I believe this mystery may finally be solved, so if it helps anyone... the solution is found in MIUI XJ's native superuser app. The problem, as I long suspected, is one of permissions. The superuser app was not allowing ringtone volume control apps and caller ID apps to do what they do. You had to go into the app (which seems impossible on the stock ROM, unless you install an app that allows access to it), you have to specifically allow full permissions for the app in question. ONLY the MIUI XJ Superuser app offers detailed permissions for the ringer volume apps (ie. Escalating Ring) out of all those I tried. This is why I could never get these apps to work on other ROMs, including MIUI stock GB, and MildWild. They have different native superuser apps, that dont offer the detailed options of MIUI XJs. I tried installing other superuser apps, including the latest paid Superuser SU. But the ringer control - caller ID apps would not work with them. In fact, those superuser apps would not even have them listed, in order to configure their permissions.

[Q] Random loss of notification sounds, volume keys not working

I haven't been able to find anything about this, but if there is something already point me that way.
I'm running Dirty Unicorns du_d2att_2013-10-14 Android version 4.3.1 on an SGH-I747.
I can't seem to find a common thread, so it's apparently random.
I'm losing the functionality of my hardware volume keys for the Android functions. It works inside Google Play, and works if I'm in the power menu. Occasionally it stops functioning for controlling volume for profiles from the home screen.
Also, and more importantly, I'm losing notification sounds. Vibration still works. The notification sounds include my alarm, and I've been late to work and almost a flight because of this.
Is there a way to fix this? I can't post in the dev thread because of how new I am.
Thanks for any info!
Does anybody have an idea? My alarm failed again and I was late for work.
I'm probably going to install a new ROM later if I don't get any responses, which sucks because I like this ROM a lot.
Just a thought on the sounds. Do you use tibu free version and have schedules set to backup? On my various devices I have the free version on, every time a backup is done (unless done manually) all customizations revert to stock, sounds, wallpapers, ringtones. Maybe?

[Q] DotView Case vs Custom volume steps amount

Hello xda,
I've rooted my M9 the other day, I'm currently running stock Sense [5.1, I believe the latest update] with Xposed. One of the many things I did with it was changing the amount of volume steps (when you've got a phone this loud, 15 steps is a joke imo). I did so through GravityBox as XVolume 30 I've used on my Nexus 4 doesn't seem to work here.
The thing works perfectly when I use the phone, however in Dotview things start to break.
As any dotview case user knows, upon changing the volume with physical buttons an icon of a speaker is shown alongside with a blue volume bar. However the said bar apparently has been programmed by HTC to show no more than 15 steps and changing the volume to any more than that just literally freezes the dotview interface to a point where the only thing you can do with the phone is restarting it via Power+Vol Up (everything under dotview works but there is no way of accessing it).
I've searched through XDA and found nothing on the topic, but I can't believe this is something very uncommon. Maybe I'm just searching it wrong . Has anybody found a fix for this? I've decompiled the HtcDotMatrix.apk out of curiosity (the code is not obfuscated) but I'm not a java dev so I didn't understand much and even if I did, I wouldn't really be able to do anything.
Thanks in advance for the replies

Rebuilding Pure Android v6.0.1 (Please help!!!)

Greetings,
I'm trying to rebuild an Android v6.0.1 from a old/leaked rom I stumbled upon for an older Samsung phone not widely supported.
I'm running into a few problems and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction regarding what I am missing.
Stuck in "Factory Mode"
I've been battling this issue by doing various compare directory / compare files to try to track down the issue.
From what I've found so far, supposedly if I jump into /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode and change the value from OFF to ON, it will fix the problem; but it's proven to not be that simple.
I've found some settings floating around /system/csc/ that look like good places to stab at, but every attempt playing there has caused the phone to bootloop.
Additionally, there are two directories in /system/ that don't appear on the retail rom; /system/factory/ and /system/data/. Deleting these seem to do nothing, but don't result in boot loops, so I at least consider it a win killing these.
Google Contacts won't sync
This one is driving me almost mad. I can't figure out how to get this one working.
I feel like there are services I am missing. Android properly lets me see that I can sync the contacts using the latest version of Google Contacts, but it can't seem to actually do it.
- GoogleContactSynAdapter is installed in /system/app/ with the correct permissions (I've tried several different versions of v6.0.1)
- mcRegistry is using a known working file set with other roms; but neither the original mcRegistry nor ones from different roms work.
- Android Download Manager is installed in /system/priv-app/ and seems to be working with just about everything else.
Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Voice all sync correctly, though they won't, for any reason, hit contacts without producing an error.
Power Button powers off immediately
This is another one that's boggling my head.
/system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl properly defines the power button (button 116) as "Power", but it doesn't produce the power menu. HOWEVER, I can map to the Power Button with any of the various button remapper apps --- I just can't map it to the power button. I'm really confused where this menu is being pulled from or where the "Power" function is being defined at.
Lock Screen won't start
I haven't really started tackling this problem as I've been trying to track down the other issues for the better part of the last two weeks.
I feel like something massive is missing and wanted to see if anyone had any immediate thoughts why the lock screen won't work. Any kneejerk thoughts welcomed on this one.
---
Any help for tackling any of these problems would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ring, Notification, & Alarm sounds are silent/don't work (but Media & Call sounds DO work)

Hi all,
Hoping someone brighter than me can figure this sound issue out.
THE PROBLEM:
Half of my sounds don't work, rendering my phone useless in the current state. As the title says, Ring, Notification, & Alarm sounds do not work. You know, as in the important stuff that makes your phone, a phone? And makes you wake up in the morning? None of these respective sliders under Sound & Vibration settings make any noise when making adjustments. By contrast, my Media and Call volume sliders DO make noise when adjusting. And sure enough, once on a phone call, I hear things just fine (Call). And YouTube, Spotify, et al. (Media) also work just fine.
Because some sounds work but others don't, this has to be a software issue, right? This would be easy if it was hardware and 0% of sounds worked, but nope, it's partial.
BACKGROUND:
This pixel 3 xl is relatively new to me, but has ran A10 and A11 with a few different ROMs with 100% of sound working flawlessly. But out of nowhere, sounds suddenly stopped working correctly as described above. And it didn't occur immediately or shortly after a new rom flash or update or anything like that. Just stopped working, months into a well-running ROM.
I've tried a couple different ROMs now to fix the issue from a completely clean install (/format data + flash latest google factory image as 1st step) but none have fixed the issue. Specifically, pixeldust (A11) and evolutionX (A11) were my latest troubleshooting attempts with no avail. Pixeldust was the ROM that was formerly working and then after months of 100% sounds working, suddenly stopped.
It's odd that searching throughout the ROM threads that no one else seems to be having this issue. Again, this would be easy if it was a hardware failure. But that doesn't explain how it works for Youtube/Spotify but not for other things, so it has to be software.... I think?
I figured I'd start a thread here rather than start posting in each and every ROM I've tried to troubleshoot this. Thank you!
This might not be relevant because I'm using stock Android on a Pixel 4a but my notifications have gone silent and this report was the only similar search result I found. I tried changing the notification tone and none of them played a short snippet so I'm wondering if the problem is there.
I have not found a solution for this issue.
One thing I noticed recently is that when I'm on a call using the regular "earpiece" or whatever it's called (which works fine), if I switch to speaker phone, I can't hear anything. I have to switch back to the non-speaker ear mode and I can hear the call again.

I think I may have finally found the solution!! Sometimes it's the simple things in life that work, rather than reflashing a billion different ways that finally gets things working again.
In this case, I simply cleared the cache and storage for the 'Sounds' apps under Settings -> Apps & notifications -> See all apps -> Click 3 dots in upper right corner -> Show system. Then, I deleted cache and storage for TWO apps, both called 'Sounds' with 2 different icons. I'm not sure which is the system app and which is not nor do I know if clearing only one of them was necessary, but this is what has worked for me and has survived several restarts thus far. Good luck!
