Rebuilding Pure Android v6.0.1 (Please help!!!) - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Greetings,
I'm trying to rebuild an Android v6.0.1 from a old/leaked rom I stumbled upon for an older Samsung phone not widely supported.
I'm running into a few problems and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction regarding what I am missing.
Stuck in "Factory Mode"
I've been battling this issue by doing various compare directory / compare files to try to track down the issue.
From what I've found so far, supposedly if I jump into /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode and change the value from OFF to ON, it will fix the problem; but it's proven to not be that simple.
I've found some settings floating around /system/csc/ that look like good places to stab at, but every attempt playing there has caused the phone to bootloop.
Additionally, there are two directories in /system/ that don't appear on the retail rom; /system/factory/ and /system/data/. Deleting these seem to do nothing, but don't result in boot loops, so I at least consider it a win killing these.
Google Contacts won't sync
This one is driving me almost mad. I can't figure out how to get this one working.
I feel like there are services I am missing. Android properly lets me see that I can sync the contacts using the latest version of Google Contacts, but it can't seem to actually do it.
- GoogleContactSynAdapter is installed in /system/app/ with the correct permissions (I've tried several different versions of v6.0.1)
- mcRegistry is using a known working file set with other roms; but neither the original mcRegistry nor ones from different roms work.
- Android Download Manager is installed in /system/priv-app/ and seems to be working with just about everything else.
Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Voice all sync correctly, though they won't, for any reason, hit contacts without producing an error.
Power Button powers off immediately
This is another one that's boggling my head.
/system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl properly defines the power button (button 116) as "Power", but it doesn't produce the power menu. HOWEVER, I can map to the Power Button with any of the various button remapper apps --- I just can't map it to the power button. I'm really confused where this menu is being pulled from or where the "Power" function is being defined at.
Lock Screen won't start
I haven't really started tackling this problem as I've been trying to track down the other issues for the better part of the last two weeks.
I feel like something massive is missing and wanted to see if anyone had any immediate thoughts why the lock screen won't work. Any kneejerk thoughts welcomed on this one.
---
Any help for tackling any of these problems would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Apps not opening - I know what the problem is

Hey,
Not sure weather someone else has clocked onto this but I think I've worked out what is causing the problem with apps not opening (IE loading for a few seconds and then going back to the homescreen).
I thought I would share this because someone might be able to come up with a solution.
Ok so here's the problem:
- WP7 uses Tombstoning or SaveStates, whatever you want to call it.
- When an app crashes (which is inevitable on a new platform, Android apps still crash now) the system doesn't deal with them, instead the only way to stop the 'crash' is by pressing the homescreen.
- This then leads the system to create a "SaveState" of the crash.
- Next time you load the app, the system tries to restore to the previous state, restoring to the crash, causing you to go back to the homescreen.
- This is an infinite loop.
At the moment the only solution I've found is to reboot the device. Maybe there's some way that we can clear SaveStates though?
The OS itself doesn't actually save states, it's done by the applications themselves.
The problem is WP7, reboot the device.
i thought you can only access those saved states via the back button. If you try to open it anywhere else, it would trash the previous session and give you a new one.

Click to collapse
This was my understanding, but that doesn't mean the app cant be coded to attempt to resume.
Also, this does not apply to the OS's inbuilt apps - if you open IE you still have all the previous tabs there.
I agree with the general theory - its usually started by an app crashing - but is impossible to fix in any way except restarting, due to the lack of any task manager or process control accessible to users.
So the cause, at this stage is irrelevant - cause theres only one solution - restart.
i had to reboot my phone once when t-mobile tv crashed on me. look like someone forgot to do some garbage collection after the crash and crap sit in memory until phone is rebooted.

[Q] Accidental Reset... wtf

I had a strange reset of my phone last night, through what I think was no real action on my part, but I wanted to defer to the experts and see if anyone can help me make sense of this...
Also, as you'll see at the end of my post—if you make it through my rambling—I could find some of the info I seek elsewhere on this, and other forums, but the combination of data would be a difficult scavenger hunt and I thought this thread may help other lite (or lazy) power users with similar issues or info searches in the future...
So I was changing my battery out last night and when I was pulling the dead one out I had accidentally turned the phone on, but was talking to someone at the time and, being distracted, continued pulling the battery.
I got the new one in and turned the phone on to be greeted by what I think is called, and excuse my ignorance on terms as I have had no real interest in rooting to date, the debug screen—white background, cute little android rascals on the bottom, several restart options, etc. I believe I selected 'fast boot', as I think I have done when some random serious of events have greeted me with the 'debug' screen in the past.
All seemed fine and the device started up but it lagged on a black screen with an icon I interpreted as an 'update' icon and a progress bar. When I got to the OS, my settings, screens, apps, etc were reverted to stock conditions. My SD card retained all its contents and I used AppBrain so I was able to get things back to some semblance of normalcy rather quickly, but I am left with so many questions...
I've come up with 3 possible explanations...I made an error on the 'debug' screen, my device had a huge and random hiccup, or there was some strange update last night that, despite my best efforts, I cannot find mention of here or on any other forums.
Some additional info...
-on App Brain site, after linking the reset device back up to my E-mail/account, I have a totally new list named, not by the former 'ADR6300', but by 'HTC Droid Incredible'. This leads me to believe either AppBrain has changed its naming convention for this device since I originally set the app/account up, or there was some strange mystery update.
-I have always updated when prompted so I believe I was running the newest OS and am still on 2.2 now.
I'm not really looking for a solution to the reset, more looking for answers/theories and some preventative measures for reducing possible distress should something similar occur in the future.
-back-up methods...I use Launcher Pro Plus - paid, and just realized I can back-up home screens and settings through the launcher but is there anything else I should be doing?
-break down on that 'debug' screen, best option to choose for various issues, etc.
-has anyone heard of a similar story, update last night, or know the reason for AppBrain's new naming convention for my device?
Any other info, tips, or relevant advice would be much appreciated. As a Web/graphic designer and modern woman I am inquisitive and technical by nature but tend to subscribe to the 'if it aint broke, don't fix it' school of thought unless there is some new feature I hear about or want when it comes to my device. So I am not dense but I definitely don't know everything and I am looking to you, the 'experts' for answers
You held vol - and the pwr button when you turned on the phone. That is what made you go to the bootloader (debug). From there i'm guessing you had the phone do a factory reset, that is why everything went back to how it was when you first bought the phone.
2.2 is the "newest" build available without rooting your device.
Rooting and making a backup through Recovery is the best way (imo) to create a backup.
For what it's worth, I think g00s3y is spot-on
When you get to the hboot screen (the white screen with the Android dudes at the bottom), there should be 5 options:
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
FACTORY RESET
Seems most likely that you mistakenly hit the last one rather than the first.

Can't Access the Desktop (Disabled Some Services)

Hi everyone,
I have a rather sticky problem. A few hours ago I decided to disable a few of the services that I wasn't using on my phone in the hope of some more free memory and battery saving. The services where things like Stocks (including it's widgets and tools), weather, some pre-installed apps like Sound hound and a few others. As far as I could tell none were critical system services. After finishing I rebooted my phone to check the outcome....and it was not pretty....
Phone boots and everything seems to be loading fine (interface, startup apps, notifications), but my desktop is blank, none of the three soft buttons work and the only thing that works is the power button (to reboot). ah, actually the main menu (sliding from top) works, it slides down but whatever I select from it, the menu closes and nothing would happen. I assume I disabled a service that was in dependency with HTC Sense service and now that service is failing to load...?, correct me if I'm wrong.
At this point I have no clue as to what to do except to try to see if I can root the phone again, any ideas on how I can fix this without rooting the phone?
(I have no backup, no version info...nothing..., I wasn't expecting anything like this to happen while messing with non-critical app services so I did not go through the "backing up everything" procedure... sadly... )

[Q] multi window does not respond to back key

Would much appreciate help/advise/pointers with respect to the following:
The problem: multi windows does not work. Long press on the “back” key just does not have any effect whatsoever.
Yes, multi-window toggle is on. Yes, cleared data, cache, restarted, used garlic and holy water, etc, to no avail. Yes, I’ve read through the forums extensively, and did not find any info related to my problem.
Tried to install multi-window manager from the play store, same nothing. Checked apk, permissions, etc. – all seems to be in fine order. The only thing that seems suspicious is that /data/data/com.sec.android.app.FlashBarService is empty – which kind of suggests to my amateurish mind that something somewhere does not get started. Checked that services framework is up, but that’s about the limit of my diagnostic skills on Android.
Oh yeah, running latest OTA version of AT&T 4.2.1 Note 2 stock, rooted.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

[Q] need HELP resetting app start-up permissions (corruption?).. am now desperate

I have found NO info on my problem. I flashed cm7 to my EVO a couple years ago and I tweaked settings in menus a rookie shouldnt have been in. I used auto-starts to stop user & system apps from starting up and for whatever reason when i flash a new ROM it reverts start-up permissions back to my customized settings & not the factory specs. It isnt even every single setting I adjusted. Its a specific few apps & after flashing a new ROM I can get the permissions to stay clean allowing start-ups on all but two that i am aware of. The apps that, im aware of, the start-up permissions system default is turning them off after a new rom flash are Amazon(3or4 permissions Xrossed out), Dialer(1x), Email(1or2x) FM radio(1x), calender storage(3x), market updater(1x), the orginal market(1x) the current Play store(1or2x), Google services framework(1x), & I think thats all of the ones that i can adjust to start-up in an auto-start manager app after a new ROM flash following a reboot and the permissions staying clean & not Xrossed out. Then there's my 2 NIGHTMARES, GOOGLE 1 TIME INITIAL(1x) & GOOGLE PLAY SERVICES(7X). The auto-start permissions for these 2 apps will NOT stay adjusted to on after any new ROM flash or reboot or hot boot following their permissions reset.. One of the (corrupted maybe?) auto-start permissions that wont reset for Google Play Services is connectivity, meaning changes in signal connection(e.g. wifi, 3g, airplane mode) &/or plugged-in charging and un-plugging the phone. In turn, when I plug-in my EVO to charge, things get extremely buggy. U/I jumps & absolutely arrogant acts of erratic behavior. Touch points on the screen don't match up. Choppy animations. Apps begin to respond like they have consumed all of the resources available and if I am lucky they just lag ,on average, 5 seconds behind & many just finally give up and force close. However, once I un-plug my EVO things assume a 90-95% stable activity with "almost" no sign of any previous problems. I have tried every combo of wiping, mounting/unmounting, settings on/off, booting, & flashing I could think of trying to fix this problem. i flashed sense based ROMs and AOSP ROMs as well as stock builds along with every kernel combo xda had available.. I was CONSUMED for 20 straight hours this past Friday alone in this mess. Over the last 6 days Ive invested over 100 hours in tweaking setting combos along with wipe, mount/unmount & flash combos. Please hElp, I just want my EVO to recognize its own "Roots" again. L2ms... The Nand backups I did 3 years ago at the pinnacle, of this misery my EVO lives in, are on a hard drive that is LONG gone.. I am capable enough to know where the answer to my situation rests.. It surely will NOT come from a noob, nor will it not come from a mildly talented android user or any mediocre devel, It wont even come from a trained android tech.
