TWRP Or CWM? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I just purchased the GS3 and rooted it with CWM. I have used TWRP on my N7 and GS2. I want to get some opinions on which is better for the GS3 or if it matters at all.

Non is better or worse. It's what you like. I've always used CWM. But I might try TWRP. It's not hard switching so just pick one try it if you don't like it switch.

Just switched from CWM and TWRP seems to be better for now. IMO. TWRP has file manager and backup naming options. Those come in handy. Otherwise they are somewhat same

The backup naming is what i would find useful. For the file manager, its horribly sloppy and slow. i prefer aroma file manager. Its awesome.

Never tried the file manager but like the backup naming option. Think im going with TWRP for now I like the touch abilities. Thanks for the feedback

Did they ever fix the keyboard closing for no reason that has plagued for 6 months? You're typing a filename... keyboard just closes, have to start over.

In TWRP while naming a backup. The keyboard would randomly close. Many people have complained about this in the past. It's the biggest reason I use CWM, actually.

Used CWM for galaxy tab and s 2 ; i start getting error on s 2 so i swichted to TWRP . its nice.
Idk if that was only my phone issue but on CWM sometime it used to be not responsive . specially it would be pain in back while flashing roms.
So u switched but both are awesome.

Used cwr for a while but had some minor graphical glitches on some roms, switched to twrp and have had no such issues. I have no idea if that was actually what was causing the issues though.

Yeah I used to get disabled button on cwm often with my s2. Put twrp on the s3 today works great now all I have to do is debloat alot of apps id never use

TWRP +1

CWM was great but I think TWRP is a bit better right now with the ability to queue up zips and then clear cache after.
You can install goomanager and use the context button you can do "Install Openrecovery script" to install TWRP.

Twrp its cleaner and automatic things

[Q] Should I switch to 4ext Touch Recovery???

I am currently running the classic CWM recovery but I am tempted to switch to 4ext Touch. I am wondering if it is worth it to make the change.
I like the idea of being able to use touch screen instead of the volume keys, but I don't know how well it works.
CWM has never caused me one issue, so I have been sticking with the "if it's not broke, don't fix it" method.
What does everyone think? Is 4ext Touch Recovery the recovery that everyone is using? Or should i stick with the classic CWM?
TWRP
I would recommend switching to TWRP (you can install it using menu->install openscript recovery in goomanager from the play store). It is touch like 4ext but has a nicer interface (imo).
I felt the same way but tried ext4 and never looked back works well with ics also.
I was the same way but I like the layout and options that 4ext has so I switched

I switched also. Bought the full version and love it. Much more user friendly then cwm and it seems to run quicker too!

Yea. It seems like it takes less time to do a backup and other things.

I'd switch, the free version is full of features, it runs quite smoothly and is faster than stock cwm. I've been using it since madmaxx came out with the touch version and I've never had a problem. Also max is an awesome dev, answers questions in hos thread all the time.

Thanks for this info . I hate having to use the volume buttons in CWM. On the Inc1 I could move around very fast with the trackpad but the Inc2 it takes more time....
Thanks for the responses. Seems like the touch recovery of choice is actually TWRP.
Now, when running the script, does it just overwrite the CWM image? So next time I manually boot recovery it will no longer be CWM?
That's how it was when I ran 4ext

Fix permissions failing on jellybean?

Has anyone else had issues while fixing permissions in recovery on jellybean? I've read about a few people having bootloops, etc and I've had it freeze up on me and had to do a battery pull. Never had issues before on gb or ics... Is this a jellybean issue or maybe cwm 6?

I'm jellybomb domination JB and mine freezes as well and I have to pull the battery every time. I thought it was just me.
I tried it on my friend's Droid Razr (which is also on a JB leak) and it froze and had to be reset.
Lickily...no bootloops, so far.

Try using the new TWRP 2.3. They rewrote the code for fixing permissions and should now complete in a few seconds rather than minutes. To get it easily, download goomanager from the market, open it press the menu button in the top right and choose install open script recovery and it will automatically download and install the latest version for you.

Favorite recovery and why?

I came from a samsung infuse where TWRP didnt integrate well with most roms. So I am partial to cwm. Should I wait till cwm or TWRP are dominated here? It seems as if TWRP is the dominate one so far. What are your thoughts on the two?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
i always liked twrp purely bc of the touch interface i hated haviong to use volume keys to navigate cwm
Both are great!!!!!!

Used both for quite a while TWRP is just laid out better and thus ends up being easier to use.

Dates in the 70's

Is it just me? After rooting and cwming my phone my system default time is always in the 1970's so it messes up the cwm back ups and things. If you have your phone on airplane mode and reboot it won't grab the time from the network so that how you can check. I only noticed it when I brought in cwm. I've tried different versions of cwm never gotten it fixed though. Oh I'm always aosp, Rom/kernel makes no difference
Can anybody confirm this? Or share any fixes?

Hey look, for a while now I have been using the script and app here.
It's called oNandroid.
- perform backups without rebooting.
- manage stored backups and the dates are correct.
- If you ever need to restore, reboot to CWM.
- It's super convenient and works perfect for me.
Problem solved...and a bag of chips!
(lots of options. Can be used with the GUI or with any script app)
Enjoy
I read something koush posted in Google+ a while back. It has to do with the way the chip set is programmed it doesn't communicate the way it's supposed to to update the date stored on the chip. I guess if you turn on airplane mode and then reboot it will default to the same date. If you pay attention every time you boot the phone it polls the server for date and time.

I figured it was something funky more or less hardware related. Are you saying there's not much hope it can be easily updated?
I can totally live with it, it's really not a big deal.
Besides sometimes it's fun to send people text messages with a 1970's date stamped on it.

random Red flashing boarder on i747 after update over the air to 4.1

I just updated my phone yesterday, and im having two issues. The main issue is the flasshing red boarder around the entire screen the appears mostly when switching apps, going home, and turning on/off. It even happens during the boot-up.
Second, my keyboard is lagging. I have all of the "feedback" features turned off and it still does it. No 3rd party boards installed. I really like the new keyboard and I wont have some third party app developers recording every keystroke.
Any ideas?

I wasn't aware there even was on OTA update to 4.1.1. Far as I knew you could only do it through Kies. Maybe try redoing it through that? Or find the stock image on here and flash it through Odin.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
Check the developer options. One of them is set to update when the screen draws. Just disable anything in there you don't need.

Thanks!
It was due to user error.
I had strick mode on for some reason.
Glad to know it was something so little.

It was a dubuging feature turned on.
4.1 is available OTA for AT&T right now.
I dont know when it became available, but its really nice. I use adw pro launcher always on all my android devices so I dont get the full experience of 4.1. I really love what they did with the keyboard and the dropdown, but I really wish they kept the data switch there.
My battery life is not as good anymore though...
Anyway, let me know if its not available to you.

Nvmnd it didnt completely fix the problem.
It doesnt do it nearly as much, but its still there. I will redo from kies.
