Is it just me? After rooting and cwming my phone my system default time is always in the 1970's so it messes up the cwm back ups and things. If you have your phone on airplane mode and reboot it won't grab the time from the network so that how you can check. I only noticed it when I brought in cwm. I've tried different versions of cwm never gotten it fixed though. Oh I'm always aosp, Rom/kernel makes no difference
Can anybody confirm this? Or share any fixes?

Hey look, for a while now I have been using the script and app here.
It's called oNandroid.
- perform backups without rebooting.
- manage stored backups and the dates are correct.
- If you ever need to restore, reboot to CWM.
- It's super convenient and works perfect for me.
Problem solved...and a bag of chips!
(lots of options. Can be used with the GUI or with any script app)
Enjoy
I read something koush posted in Google+ a while back. It has to do with the way the chip set is programmed it doesn't communicate the way it's supposed to to update the date stored on the chip. I guess if you turn on airplane mode and then reboot it will default to the same date. If you pay attention every time you boot the phone it polls the server for date and time.

I figured it was something funky more or less hardware related. Are you saying there's not much hope it can be easily updated?
I can totally live with it, it's really not a big deal.
Besides sometimes it's fun to send people text messages with a 1970's date stamped on it.

Go to settings and the date and time and uncheck the automatic time zone and date then set them to where they need to be then recheck the auto boxes should be fine after that
Already try it and didn't work out.

I got it working now Thank you very much!
After you got it working, did you reboot and is it still fixed? Because im having a similar problem BUT i think its Root Call Blocker that messes it up after every reboot.

After reboot I have to do it all over again.
No matter what is done, time zones keep getting screwed on reboot. I think the problem is that the checkbox "get timezone from blah" is not getting stored in the database (or wherever it should be stored), just the session.
I'll look into this, and report back. No promises...
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks. Maybe we shouldn't reboot !
The value in the db is okay. Something is modifying this on boot. If you watch closely, the phone boots and time is okay. And then the timezone reverts to zero and so does the time.
I'll keep investigating... Happy Father's Day.

HELP!
Hi there,
I am from PR experiencing the same issue with timezone since upgrade to ICS 4.0.3.
Where can I obtain the Titanium Backup?
What apps do I have to kill in order to avoid modifying the time\date after restart?
I am really happy to see your post with a resolution to this lame issue.

Hi, I have somewhat a similar issue as everyone else on this thread. If I use the Automatic TimeZone, it resets the Time Zone to +00:00. I have tried what ejcortes says, but I still get the same issue. All this started once ICS was updated at the store. Any clues?
I had the same issue since the update of ICS. Tmobile have a new update for ICS and that fix it. Check out the support site in Tmobile site for the update.
I found a few apps that tracks your phone down or even takes pictures of the person trying to unlock it, but like the title says, is there any app that blocks hard reset? It's kind of pointless if your phone gets stolen if they can just shut the phone off and do a hard reset to it and sign in with there email,
Thanks :-D

I guess in theory you could place an app like Seekdroid in the system folder and then do a hard reset. Usually a hard reset won't affect system apps.

you can't really avoid physical maneuvers. and anything baked into the phone's startup has to be a modification to the actual ROM. so no.

Yea it would, also it would be tight if Samsung had in app like that already installed, that way even with a master reset you'll still be able to find your $700 + phone lol, I haven't lost one yet (knock on wood) but still very nervous of loosing it, ill give android lost a try,

This is how I got around the GPS toggle not working:
Since AndroidLost.com allows you to send texts, I have setup a tasker profile which waits for a text that says "androidlost" and if it receives it, it enables GPS.

Why do most roms OP state to "fix permissions" directly after flashing the rom, when that does nothing... it fixes them in .3 seconds? lol.... pretty sure it's best to do it after setting the phone up the way you want. Where it takes a couple minutes and actually gives you a log of what is fixed. Just curious if I'm wrong in thinking all this jazz.

Probably just because it can't hurt to do one, that and if an issue arises they can be certain that it was done.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Ive wondered it myself. Never do it though. To me its there for when you run into problems with FCs and such. I assume its the devs trying to be proactive for those who dirty flash.
Ive seen it screw things up to btw.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I know what Fixing Permissions does, just why they tell their users to fix them before anything can be broken, is where my curiosity begins, if I remember right even after a dirty flash they don't wont be fixed til after a reboot...
my way of doing things
wipe data/system/cache
flash rom
boot up>let sit for 5 minutes>install through TB or recover data
boot into recovery and fix permissions, which takes a couple minutes, if I have errors.
Congratulations, no one cares.

only fix permissions if you have issues of force closes or log cats are showing files as unreadable... basically if you are having issues of some sort.
also, good idea to fix permissions from terminal while booted into android if you are using a recovery that has not been updated in a long time

Oh, I know how to run and use fix permissions. I'm just curious as to why some rom cooks give instructions that are useless.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
That's a valid question.
I think it's an instruction for crack flashers.
It levels everything out.
Especially, if you are trying to keep your data

Has anybody ever seen a yellow screen that looks very similar to custom recovery, and says
"Device has detected a hardware reset"
I can take a picture when I get home, it doesn't do anything to me, but in one specific application if I try one specific command it sends me to this screen. I just reboot and then it optimizes applications and throws me back in as though nothing had happened.
Thoughts?

Hey all.
I have had an issue for a long time on deodexed fc09 roms. I thought it was an issue with the specific rom I was using but think it is an issue with the rom that rom was built on. I am using the stock (for the first time) fc09 posted that is deodexed and has su and I think some kernel tweaks built in and I notice the same issue. My 4g sleeps and does not promptly wake upon an attempt at data transmission. Frequently I wait 5 seconds and often even need to refresh the page or action. Anyone have a clue as to why or whay I can change to improve it?
