I am currently running the classic CWM recovery but I am tempted to switch to 4ext Touch. I am wondering if it is worth it to make the change.
I like the idea of being able to use touch screen instead of the volume keys, but I don't know how well it works.
CWM has never caused me one issue, so I have been sticking with the "if it's not broke, don't fix it" method.
What does everyone think? Is 4ext Touch Recovery the recovery that everyone is using? Or should i stick with the classic CWM?
TWRP
I would recommend switching to TWRP (you can install it using menu->install openscript recovery in goomanager from the play store). It is touch like 4ext but has a nicer interface (imo).
I felt the same way but tried ext4 and never looked back works well with ics also.
I was the same way but I like the layout and options that 4ext has so I switched

I switched also. Bought the full version and love it. Much more user friendly then cwm and it seems to run quicker too!

Yea. It seems like it takes less time to do a backup and other things.

I'd switch, the free version is full of features, it runs quite smoothly and is faster than stock cwm. I've been using it since madmaxx came out with the touch version and I've never had a problem. Also max is an awesome dev, answers questions in hos thread all the time.

Thanks for this info . I hate having to use the volume buttons in CWM. On the Inc1 I could move around very fast with the trackpad but the Inc2 it takes more time....
Thanks for the responses. Seems like the touch recovery of choice is actually TWRP.
Now, when running the script, does it just overwrite the CWM image? So next time I manually boot recovery it will no longer be CWM?
That's how it was when I ran 4ext

Take out the battery. Put it back in and start your phone again. If the same happens repeat the battery pull but this time hold down on the volume bar and THEN press the power button to restart your phone. After it starts up in bootloader select recovery by moving the volume bar and then hit the power button again. This will bring you back to recovery where you can flash the rom again or restore your backup.

Also keep in mind that some roms can take up to 5 minutes to load the first time. Normally (but definetely NOT always) as long as it doesn't keep reloading the boot animation, everything is fine - the rom is building your file system on your first boot.

Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
if you took the time to read about kernels and what they are you would know.
but, i'm in a good mood today:
Kernels govern your cpu speed and how to scale it. Some are locked to a certain frequency set and some are made adjustable, but you have to get an app that interacts with the kernel otherwise it runs at whatever it is preset to.
SetCPU is the one I used, but I know there are plenty out there that others would recommend and swear by in a heartbeat.

I'm using Virtuous rom 1.02 with the advanced kernel. I clocked mine at 475-1100mhz with a low battery profile switch at 275-887 (i think).
Check your rom specific kernel to make sure it runs best for your rom. The rest is personal preference.

*sigh* Give a man a fish and he will eat all day. Teach a man to fish and he will drink beer all day.
Since you're on CyanogenMod, I recommend Pershoot's kernel (available through ROM Manager). If you're feeling bold, download Flippy's latest kernel. Since I'm running the CM-based PyroMod, Pershoot's kernel is built in.

If you open clockwork and your current recover is the same as newest version then there is no need to reflash recovery. The only reason to reflash clockwork is if there is a newer version out.

Maybe you should listen to your phone.....
I've only experienced app issues with aosp. Like applanet not working, unable to download from market or applanet, etc. Only a little laggy when I first start up for a few seconds and then it's normal.

Personally I love AOSP roms , but my phone seems to dislike them like a plague . I make a phone call for 30 mins and Boom my android os is clocking in at 85% , but luckly my voice calls only stay at 6% . I gave up , you name it I did it . So now using a sensless Myn rom dressed up to look like aosp . I know it isnt AOSP but the asthetics is there and its good enough for me .
I think most of the issues with AOSP ROMs have to do with how people wipe before flashing. I would search the forums for a zip file that performs the wipe for you. There is one by Calkulkin (not sure if that the right spelling) but I heard that it doesn't wipe data. Just Google Search "Android data wipe zip file" and see what you get. I have one I can send you if you can't find anything.
Also, what recovery are you using? I know lots of people using Clockwork recovery that have all kinds of problems with AOSP ROMs because it doesn't wipe correctly. I recommend using AmonRA 2.3 recovery as I have had the best results with that.
Good luck. I hope you get it worked out. SOme of the latest AOSP ROMs are really awesome (I am running the Gingerbread-EVO-Deck ROM now and it is great)!
I have calkulins format all zip lol I have amon ra n I ask have problems lol. Sense for me it is

I get stuck everytime unless I use the Darkside Cache Wipe. After running that, RC2 loaded like a dream. Still searching for Wifi Calling though.
*edit* I flashed RC2 from the last nightly. But everytime I would use CWM to flash the latest nightly, I would have weird errors, (stuck on boot screen, CWM wouldn't start the install process, etc.) I kept a copy of DARKSIDE CACHE WIPE and decided to try to run that prior to install. Flashed RC2, booted no problem.

It is recommended that you do a full wipe before updating between nightlies, as generally significant amount of bugs are fixed and new codes implemented, so there are alot of changes. Not doing a wipe can interfere with these changes. If you don't want to re-install all the apps again after every rom flash, try 'app2zip' from the market.
Here's the link for that app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=scd.app2zip&hl=en
It will let you pack all the apps you currently have and want into a CWM flashable zip, which you can flash right after you wipe and install a new rom to get back all your apps.

There's no porting required. Just get the firmware/stock ROM of the galaxy s2 and dig into the /system/media/audio/ui folder on your computer and there you will find all the click sounds, as well as unlock sounds. Just copy the ones you want from your computer into the sd card of your phone and then go into the same directory in your phone (the /audio/ui folder) and replace the click noises with the ones you copied over, making sure that the name of the files is the exact same as the ones you are replacing. Also make sure that the file permissions are the same as the other files in that folder. Done!
Hope that helps guys.
Cheers.
I am currently running RC2 with TDJs Venom 4 CM9 #3 Kernel. Using the badass governor to conserve battery. Usually this governor is fantastic and is amazing with performance and saving battery.
For some reason today, this ROM/Kernel/Governor combo is draining battery a lot faster than normal and I am not sure why.
2 hours ago my phone was at 100% battery. It's now down to 91%, almost a 5% drop per hour. Typically I would get 8 to 10% battery drop in 5 hours time running the badass governor. I haven't used my phone more today than I normally would, so battery shouldn't be dropping as quickly.
CPU Spy confirms my phone is going into deep sleep and has been in deep sleep for 85% of the time. That is good and that is what I want it to do. Then GSam Battery showed that a particular app was keeping the phone awake for 29mins. I froze that particular app 30mins ago and in the 30mins since I froze the app the battery still drained 2%.
Anyone else running the same setup as me and notice faster than normal battery drain?
I dont know if this has been talked about before. For the person on the other side to hear me good I have to speak louder than usual. What i mean is, that before, i was able to whisper when i was on the phone since i work in an office, but now after the last few nightlies, i have to talk louder into the mic for people to hear me good. I was running some tests myself and i find that the pickup on the mic is very low when using the phone as normal, but the pickup is fine when using the speaker phone (Im able to whisper and the mic will pick it up). I just wanted to know if this is the remains of the underwater effect that we once had?

In TWRP while naming a backup. The keyboard would randomly close. Many people have complained about this in the past. It's the biggest reason I use CWM, actually.
Used CWM for galaxy tab and s 2 ; i start getting error on s 2 so i swichted to TWRP . its nice.
Idk if that was only my phone issue but on CWM sometime it used to be not responsive . specially it would be pain in back while flashing roms.
