Fix permissions failing on jellybean? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Has anyone else had issues while fixing permissions in recovery on jellybean? I've read about a few people having bootloops, etc and I've had it freeze up on me and had to do a battery pull. Never had issues before on gb or ics... Is this a jellybean issue or maybe cwm 6?

I'm jellybomb domination JB and mine freezes as well and I have to pull the battery every time. I thought it was just me.
I tried it on my friend's Droid Razr (which is also on a JB leak) and it froze and had to be reset.
Lickily...no bootloops, so far.

Try using the new TWRP 2.3. They rewrote the code for fixing permissions and should now complete in a few seconds rather than minutes. To get it easily, download goomanager from the market, open it press the menu button in the top right and choose install open script recovery and it will automatically download and install the latest version for you.

Is anyone else having this problem?

My phone keeps hot rebooting with ics...it takes about 10 hours and freeze then hot reboot and time goes to gmt0...i can't take this any more...could it be an app that's not compatible? And how do i find out i have 150 apps..? This did not happen in gb...us anyone else getting this? Once it hot reboots out will keep doing it until i reboot into recovery and wipe caches...then is fine for another 10 hours...I'm rooted stock tmo le1 with darkside v3#5 kernel and touch cwm 5813 but was happening with stock kernel too...I've wiped data when i upgraded too...should i try a custom rom? I'm afraid if i go through that i will have the same result if it's an app doing it..

There was a similar issue on aokp & cm9 that eugene373 just fixed. It would random reboot into bootloops. I wouldn't think it'd be an app. Try flashing darkside cachewipe, will wipe both caches and fix permissions. If that doesn't fix I'd try a new Rom. And ds superwipe before installation.

I love ds kernel so i think i would use his rom..i just don't want to go through all of that if it's an app i can just delete...is there any app or any way like logcat that would tell me what's causing this hot reboot?
Edit...i have system tuner pro could that find the problem? Because if an app not compatible with ics then any ics rom i will have this problem

Are you overclocking, setting governors and under volting? If so return to stock settings and see if it persist. But I would at least try the darkside cachewipe if you haven't already. Here is a link for getting a logcat of the issue

Fix permissions

Why do most roms OP state to "fix permissions" directly after flashing the rom, when that does nothing... it fixes them in .3 seconds? lol.... pretty sure it's best to do it after setting the phone up the way you want. Where it takes a couple minutes and actually gives you a log of what is fixed. Just curious if I'm wrong in thinking all this jazz.

I had no idea either. But this cleared it up for me.

Probably just because it can't hurt to do one, that and if an issue arises they can be certain that it was done.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Ive wondered it myself. Never do it though. To me its there for when you run into problems with FCs and such. I assume its the devs trying to be proactive for those who dirty flash.
Ive seen it screw things up to btw.

I know what Fixing Permissions does, just why they tell their users to fix them before anything can be broken, is where my curiosity begins, if I remember right even after a dirty flash they don't wont be fixed til after a reboot...
my way of doing things
wipe data/system/cache
flash rom
boot up>let sit for 5 minutes>install through TB or recover data
boot into recovery and fix permissions, which takes a couple minutes, if I have errors.
Congratulations, no one cares.

only fix permissions if you have issues of force closes or log cats are showing files as unreadable... basically if you are having issues of some sort.
also, good idea to fix permissions from terminal while booted into android if you are using a recovery that has not been updated in a long time

Oh, I know how to run and use fix permissions. I'm just curious as to why some rom cooks give instructions that are useless.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
That's a valid question.
I think it's an instruction for crack flashers.
It levels everything out.
Especially, if you are trying to keep your data

I have the same issues that you... since install the v10 and my S3 is also slow .. I like the version v10 .. but i had to return to v9.1
Haven't tried any version other than 10, but will give it a shot. Now that I think about it my s3 is kinda slow. Thanks for the idea!

V10 works absolutely flawless for me. I have none of what you mentioned.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Have you read thru the rom thread? If its a rom issue others surely will have reported it.
Otherwise it may have more to do with the flashing method you may have used than with the rom itself.

So instead of posting your issues whitin the original thread you decided to create another one here ? Why...

Whatever issues given in this thread should have been cleared if op or anyone having these issues goes through development section thread and flashes rom correctly as per instructions these issues wouldn't have come
I am using this rom without any of these issues

Just love how ignorant supposed techies point blame instead or correcting the issue. Dont be ignorant.
I wasnt aware of an existing post on this or I wouldnt have asked for help.
I did ask for help and not complaints.
Other than that this is by far not my first time loading roms, I think after the 20th or 30th time I would say I know what im doing. So again save your ignorance for yourself.

Md5 check the download . Try again with a full wipe? I. I'm v10 and have no issues. Usually a clean install will resolve most problems. Good luck.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Only a few problems here!
I've been using Wicked since ICS days with very few problems. Had an issue with Bluetooth that was resolved by wiping and reflashing the ROM back on ICS.
Since switching to Jelly Bean, about the only issue I've had is S Beam and/or Wi-Fi Direct connection/file sharing. In the two cases I've had, a dirty flash has fixed the problem.
Other than that, the ROM has been great for me!
Good Luck!

LMT Stopped working
I have been using Wicked Rom v_9.1 for about three months with NO problems. All of a sudden LMT service stopped working. The pops up. Unfortunately LMT has stopped working. So I see that V10 is out so I Flasj V10 the proper way thinking that would take care of the problem. NOPE same thing happened. Any ideals?

How in GOD'S name do I do that? I was under the impression that when I flashed a new rom that would have cleared out everything.
Its an option during flash. Or boot recovery and factory reset.

Are you restoring data or any backups?
Have you searched in or asked in the rom thread to see if its a common or known issue?
I think someone else had a similar problem. (Isnt lmt related to some app called pie?) If so uninstall and reinstall the app.
Otherwise, try clearing data for lmt and force stop. Then reboot and see if it still acts up.

I'm personally glad you started this thread. Because of my low post count, I can't post in that forum.
I've only been using this rom for a couple days and I love it. The only problem I've had was that I can't seem to get the Awsome Beats to do anything. Changing the settings doesn't seem to make any noticeable difference in sound quality. I know it's not a big deal but I think it would be a cool thing to have since I use my phone to listen to music almost as much as I use it to communicate.
I'll admit that I didn't read through the 1000+ pages but I did do a search of the thread and didn't come up with anything.
Oh, I'm using the stock Samsung music player, Songbird and Pandora to listen to music.
Stock kernal as well.
Hum

I just don't get it partner. I've reinstalled the rom twice. Even flashed a different rom. Same issue. I will continue to look around to find the problem. Thanx for your help

Browser issues.

Hi guys, I got this device today, rooted using Odin, and am currently using stock rom and kernel(4.1.2) my stock browser worked fine for the first few hours after I rooted and then seriously out of the blue it started giving me app not responding toast and closes. Any ideas what may have caused this? I deleted a few of the bloatware apps with TB but didnt delete anything having to do with the browser or data connectivity. I even left google talk alone and I always get rid of it. Any suggestions?

Try wiping cache and davlik cache in recovery and fixing permissions. That's always the first place to start.
Also, its always best to just freeze bloat. And after a bit, if all is well, then uninstall.

I tried that after I posted, still no go. I think I may just nandroid back to before it started misbehaving and see if it happens again.
Edit: im a dumb a$$. I changed my screen density to 200. Thats why its crashing. I wonder if there is something I can do to edit the apk its self so it doesn't crash because of density.
