[Q] Unable to boot into CWM?.. - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed stock 4.1.2 via Mobile Odin and performed root on-the-fly. Then I tried to flash CWM via Odin but all it did was set the counter flag to '1' and just boot into the default recovery.
What did I do wrong? How can I fix this?
-EDIT: I tried to flash CWM via Mobile Odin instead of PC Odin and it worked! The problem is that my first attempt via PC Odin switched the counter to '1' already... Triangle Away didn't work for me - how can I reset the counter again? It's problematic because I can only go into CWM by flashing it with Mobile Odin and then it auto-reboots into CWM but what if for whatever reason I can't access Mobile Odin?.....

Triangle away also doesnt work for me. Even though I flashed stock kernel and recovery.

you need to have stock recovery , stock kernel and secure stock boot image and a stock recovery reset file(i guess).
then you should try using triangle away

I don't particularly care about Triangle Away because I managed to flash CWM with Mobile Odin and then restore an older nandroid.
The problem is that I must use Mobile Odin each time I want to go into CWM - I don't want this. I want CWM to be my phone's default recovery.

Delete the following file or rename it.
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Or use mskip's toolkit to delete recovery reset files.

Thanks, I will check out that toolkit, it looks promising.

Maybr hit the thanks button itself.

Right, I don't care much about petty illusions.
Also, disregard everything - I'm a bloody fool. I kept trying to boot CWM by doing the Volume Down+Menu+Power buttons but only now I realized that to go into CWM, you need to use Volume UP+Menu+power.... Feel free to lock this thread.

New issues.. Recovery Issues..

Okay, I'm not sure what's going on with my phone this time, but... I was assuming that whatever I used to flash my phone to the EL29, I figured it came with recovery. I thought whenever you Root your phone, you automatically get the recovery app. Well, for some reason, I don't think my phone has recovery on it.
(my battery is full)
I tried to go to recovery.
By doing volume up + power. It goes to the Android System Recovery <3e>
It says "E: update file is backed up: Reportedted
#MANUAL MODE#
--Updating application...
Installing Apks.
Successfully updated application."
So I click on reboot & then it says E: file is written... Update success
Then my phone reboots, and when it comes back on, my battery is completely dead.
Then I keep getting a pop-up that says Attention : no firmware update is available.
I use different apps, that say that my phone has root access, so that's why I assumed I was rooted.
But I don't know what's going on.
is there a different way to get into recovery? Am I doing it wrong? Do I not have the recovery on my phone??
Anyone help me out with any of this, I would really appreciate your input. Thanks

You only have stock recovery, it can only flash official signed files from Samsung/sprint you need to use the autoroot package from sfhub to put either cwm or rogue recovery on, look at the stickies in the dev forum you will find detailed information to help you achieve this

Root and Custom Recovery are 2 separate things. You can have one without the other. If you flash custom recovery in Odin, you'll get the yellow triangle and increase your flash count. There are ways to reset, including USB jig and upgrading to ICS and using Triangle Away. The pre-rooted ODIN OneClick packages give you root, but flash stock recovery so you won't get the yellow triangle nor increase your flash count. Then if you want CWM, you can just use the Auto Root package to install it.
Whenever you boot into stock recovery it tries to install the pre-installed Sprint apps and then when you boot into the first time after going to stock recovery, it searches for firmware. That is just the way they made it work.
I don't know how you initially got EL29.
If you still have root access, the Auto Root sticky can install CWM pretty easily. Just choose Option C and install EL29+CWM-Rogue
If you don't have root access, you can flash the EL29 ODIN OneClick. The link is available in the Auto Root sticky. Choose the NoData version which won't reset any of your Android User Data.

[Q] Mobile Odin Pro Fail - Help!

I rooted my GT-N7105 using CWM6 and desktop Odin when I got it. I wanted to update to 4.1.2 without losing Root, so I decided to use Mobile Odin Pro with the EverRoot feature turned on.
I downloaded the new ROM to the root of the device (not the external SD card) and set Mobile Odin to install the new ROM and retain Root.
The device rebooted to the Mobile Odin icon, and then nothing... can't reboot, can't seem to recover, every time I try anything, it just reverts to the Mobile Odin icon.
Any Help?
How can I restore my phone?

Hi mate, I would suggest you to use the odin from desktop and flash a stock rom and then try rooting again using odin from desktop with cf-autoroot.
With a little more searching, I discovered I had a broken cache. Installed a fix using desktop odin and am back where I started. When I get home later will try flashing a stock rom.
Do I need to use triangleaway first?
Broken cache was issue with very old recovery by chenglu, (i think that is already removed)
If so then just flash CF auto root package it should solve.
BTW what option you are selecting to flash ROM with Mobile Odin?
My unit is running 4.1.1 rooted with cwm6. I wanted to update to 4.1.2 and retain root. I downloaded the correct new rom for my carrier (Starhub in Singapore) from sammobile and extracted it to the root of my phone, then opened the file using Odin Mobile and told it to flash with EverRoot enabled.
That's where the process died and I was left with the Odin Mobile android logo frozen on my phone.
After unplugging and trying to reboot - it kept goign to the Odin Mobile logo so I rebooted into recovery mode and tried Odin Desktop to flash the Rom - no luck.
Then tried Odin Desktop with the cache fix I found earlier and that reset everything as if I hadn't started this process.
Now I'm unsure how to proceed.
Should I unroot, flash the stock rom then re-root? If so to flash the stock rom (using Desktop Odin, I assume), do I need to reset the counter? Using Triangleaway?
Am new to this phone so am not sure how to proceed. Any help would be appreciated.
First you check you have latest Mobile odin, if it happens with that too, do this
As per OP, you have CWM so your counter will be already 1 or more.
Simply flash new ROM with PC odin.(though it won't raise counter)
Reroot with Cf auto root.(this will raise flash counter)
Install triangle away and reset counter.
before doing this backup your important data, though above mention method won't erase anything, but in any step if you get bootloops, you may need to factory reset and that will erase data.
I've got it figured, I reckon.
I installed the new rom using Odin, then rooted using CF-Auto-Root
All seems well.
Thanks for the replies - I probably should have been a little more patient and worked it out myself!

Stock recovery overwriting CWM

Hi guys,
I've tried to root my device using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31801060&postcount=2
I used method 2 because I wanted CWM.
I found that when Odin reboots the phone it goes straight into Android itself, not the recovery CWM. I disabled the autoreboot and flashed again and manually rebooted but still my stock recovery persists, not CWM.
What can I do to get CWM?
Thanks in advance!
It should work.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
It will have CWM flashed. Maybe you should just tick the auto reboot option then when the OS loads up shut down your note and boot to Recovery.

when I boot into recovery it's the stock one, but it shows the status as custom. And the count increases with each time I run it through the ODIN process.
Any advice guys?
Maybe your flashable odin cwm file does not properly work. Something is wrong, Try to reset your flash counter with Triangle Away. Then proceed with installation.

Thanks for the help thus far! Just a question, does the flash counter value matter? Or can we continue flashing on top without harm?

It matters for me, I have an S3 mini and when my counter goes up, I can't use my back and menu buttons. In some cases you can just continue flashing.

[Q] i need some help, please! SPH-L900 NOTE II

I apologize if this is already a thread in here somewhere, but I searched first with no luck. I have/ had a rooted galaxy note 2 done by method of the galaxy note 2 tool kit. I went and installed AOKP 4.2.2 but my sound wasn't working so I went to load a back up through CWM. after I slid the accept slider to start it went to a screen with " Firmware Upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I have tried to flash the stock recovery with odin and It gets to the point of recovery, and then fails. is there a fix for this?
I have seen the videos on how to use TWRP, and CWM using the recovery mode on the phone, but it doesn't allow me to enter that mode using the volume up, power and home buttons. all I can access on the phone is the download mode through ODIN.
If u can't get into recovery then use download mode and flash a stock rom through Odin. I would use the mc2 stock tar in the development section.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
if you can't enter a custom recover with the power-up+home+power combo, I suspect you don't have a custom recover installed--TWRP or CWM. Sounds like you have just the stock recovery.
I suggest trying to Toolkit and install just a custom recovery. If you do, I suggest downloading the TAR file from the recovery prefer. If you haven't used one before, I like TWRP.
If everything goes well, all you'll need to do is just flash a rom you like. won't need to be stock.

URGENT!

Hey guys I was recently trying to flash back to stock so that i could carrier unlock my device, but when I was trying to flash using cwm, I kept getting status 7 error, so I read up on that and learned that cwm doesn't like certain roms.
After reading that, I used twrp, which allowed the rom to flash.
Now's where it gets bad..
the rom was booting fine, until i realized it was stuck at the boot animation for about 10 minutes.
I went back to the thread and asked how long it should take on first boot, they said 4 mintues...
I can't get back into recovery mode.. (actually i could never get into recovery mode using hardware bottons, i had to use apps such as ROM Manager)
I'm trying to use odin to flash recovery img, but no dice..
Can someone please tell me what I should do?
You can't go back to stock through recovery. You have to flash the stock image through Odin.

It was a custom touchwiz rom. I thought that was possible.
Could I flash stock through odin in my current situation?
Fash the latest frimware using Odin
Can you get your phone into Download mode? Power whitle holding volume down, if you can then flash CWMR using odin
Download CWMR touch or non touch from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2405433
Doing this help me skip some odin errors from previous failed attempts to flash stock frimwares (I don't know if you're having the same problem)
If you successfully flash CWMrecovery, you should be able to flash official 4.3 firmware(T-Mobile) and put your phone back to stock.
create an account with sam mobile for faster download this download can take 1-4 hours SamMobile was like 20 minutes for me, this is the link for the latest frimware for
(T-mobile SGH-M919 !!! ONLY !!! ) http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=22280
If you can get your phone back to stock this is my advice to you: root your phone right-away so you can reset your flash counter using triangle away.
I suggest the following rooting method is safe, it worked for me and did not affect my flash counter
Safe root --> http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2013/12/Safe-Root-Android-4.3-Galaxy-S3-S4-Note-No-Warranty-Void.html
use triangle away to reset your flash counter to Zero

Did oyu make a nandroid backup of your stock rom before flashing a custom one?
If so, just restore it.
If not, use Odin.
