Introduction.
In P350, we have little RAM, and everybody knows that. I'm constructing this thread to try maximize the performance on ICS.
The First Tip -> Gapps.
As we all know, in each version of Android, Gapps size is increased. In Froyo, Gapps like Google Maps and others really slowed the phone to the point of hacking it to improve performance. In Gingerbread, in most of ROM's, it wasn't a BIG problem. But in Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean, Gapps are landing direct hits on performance overall, because of 3 reasons:
It's size is now very BIG;
It has some unknown background apps that eats RAM;
Now the Gapps are consuming memory, CPU and GPU.
As a effect, some Devs and p350 users are searching a way to improve performance. But some problems occur in the way, like low memory RAM, discussions on thread and some others. So I'm giving the first TIP.
DO NOT USE FLASH GAPPS.
You are now asking yourself : "What the Hell are you saying Dark?"
I answer, it's very simple. Most of the Android Users (Yes, not only P350) do not use half of the installed apks. Saying by other words, Android users flash and don't use 50% or more of Gapps, so unknown apps are installed and are kept in phone. And most of the users only flash Gapps because they want them installed for nothing, without knowing what these apps are doing in background. To finish, a big part of New Android users only use Google Play. So, how we clear this?
DOWNLOAD THE DESIRED GAPPS FROM GOOGLE PLAY.
If you use some Gapps to work or any other reason, like Google Mail and Youtube, you might consider downloading then instead of flashing. But now you are asking yourself: "What is the difference?". I answer why downloading is better thant flashing them:
A great part of ROM's (if not all), do not need Gapps to work, so you can only download Google Play, setting your account on phone and start hunting the apps you use;
Because of this, you has an Greater control of deciding what app you need and want to install;
Unknown apps will not be installed on your phone;
No background apps active -> More RAM -> Better performance!
Now you have a better performance than before.
The Second Tip -> Uninstall what you don't use.
Yes, in every version of ICS the most worry of users is : "RAM is good on this ROM?", because little RAM, poor performance. In some versions, like ConnectMod betas, the RAM is very poor, according to dodo1255 . How to solve this problem?
UNINSTALL SYSTEM APPS.
Some ROM's come with unnecessary apps, and they consume your memory, both internal and RAM. To Advanced users:
Extract ROM, go to system/apps and delete manually the undesired apps.
To basic users, do this:
Download Root Uninstaller or Root Uninstaller Pro;
Open it and Search some apps that you don't use and uninstall them.
Attention: Before making anything make a Backup first! And, do not try this if you are New on Android world. If you want to do this, first search on net about this and what apps you can uninstall.
I'm not responsible for bricked devices, suicide, getting fired at your work because alarm app failed, or your mama kamikazing herself instead of jumping parachute because you didn't call her and tell what airplane to catch on airport. You decided of making these modifications. If you point your finger at me, I'll laugh of you.
Click to collapse
Some people just do this and get an improved performance, but if you want to go further.
The Third Tip -> Overclock and Swap.
Yep, it's a basic tip this one. But be aware of the limit of the overclocking in the respective kernel, and what's the most stable frequency on that ROM. And if you're planning Swap your ROM, do not use apps like Swapper, they do not help because they runs in background. Search and you'll find good tips on how to do it.
The Fourth Tip -> Download some optimizer apps.
Yes, i'm recomending because of other things that they can do. But do not install:
Apps that kills other apps, like task managers. They do not improve performance and really increase the number of Force Closes on your phone;
Apps that creates a big amount of cache;
You can install apps like:
Auto Memory Manager and RAM Manager Pro - Can help on improving performance;
AnTuTu CPU Master Pro - With some settings it helps on performance and battery;
Zdbox or other that cleans cache - Cleans your phone to a better level of performance.
The Fifth Tip -> Smoothing your phone in a easy manner.
This tip was suggested by gogyly.
This app, Seeder, was created by lambgx02 to reduce lags and to improve even better Any Rom. In the thread you can find more specifications.
I tested and works flawlessy, it's very good, a must-have app for us now.
Seeder
The Sixty Tip ->A GREAT Replacement for Google Play.
This tip is for those that only use Google Play when flash gapps. It's a custom market called 1Mobile Market. It's UI is like Google Play, feature the hottest apps for free (I found GTA Vice City to download here), you can log in with your google account and has a really amount of apps. I'm current using and is very good.

Doubt of every ICS user ->Why my phone is having low battery fast?.
It's because of tweaks. Yeah, TWEAKS MAKE THE BATTERY LAST A FEW HOURS. I concluded this when i moved myself of ICS from my Genesis. They are almost equal on performance (with over my one reaches close , going to 2203 and ICS with stock freq. 2230). And, ironically, the two wastes battery even when i'm not using it. Result -> 1 day battery. Froyo, the more slow ROM, do not wastes battery when i'm not using it, even with overclock. Result -> 3+ day battery.
And 1 thing: Devs, do not put 2 or tweak packages on your ROM's, because some scripts was already used on other packages, making the system run 2 or more times the same script, wasting battery.
You can help on this list by suggesting some improvements that I do not listed here. If I help, press thanks.
So for Accounts syncing, Flash Gapps is not really needed? Only a account-related app, such as Gmail? Interesting... But how do I get Play Store without flashing Gapps?
dbarrera, account sync app come in some ICS roms. If not, you can download gapps and put this application on system/apps of the ROM. You can get Play Store apk file in XDA, or in others websites. If you cannot found, i have the .apk file so i can upload for you =D.
For instance, I'm testing JellyME ROM... It has Account & Sync app, but even with Gmail and Play Store (3.7.11 from a June dump, I dunno if its the latest) app installed, I can't add my Google account for it to sync Contact and Calendar data... Ideas?
Yes. Go to Settings -> Account & Sync -> Add Account, and do the step guide. First check your internet connection because it will be loggin to verify and associate your account to that phone and you're done. After all tap your account to find the options to Sync Contacts and Calendar. Hope i helped you. =D
Or use blackmart.

Hi. I think u should try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33999592
I've used this app on kamesh ICS, and it helps reduce lag. I didn'nt test it much on ICS (rolled back to MIUI), but on MIUI GB, realy reduces lag on minimum. I'm curently on powersaving governor and all is still buttery smooth. Check out and give your opinion. Cheers!!!

Okay I'll try using it on my new ROM and soon i'll post results =D
Had to flash Gapps (tiny-gapps) for Google related data (Contacts and Calendar) sync...
I just hope that these tiny-gapps does not come with unnecessary apps. But you can do this step: Extract gapps and extract rom. Put the desired apps on system/apps of the ROM and make a .zip file with contents. That should do the trick next time =D
Just the APKs? In the tiny-gapps also comes some libs and stuff... Probably dependencies?
Maybe ... But here in my phone it wasn't a problem. Maybe these libs modifies system and allow unknown apps or other things to run in background.
Being that the case, GoogleBackupTransport (I guess this one keeps data backed up with Google), Google[Calendar | Contacts]SyncAdapter (I guess the name says it all), GoogleLoginService (Need to login into Mothership somehow), MarketUpdater, Phonesky (Play Store), Talk (Yes, I'm guilty of using it) should be the only ones to load directly into the ROM's /system/app folder?
Yes, theorically talking. But soon some ROM's will implant the useful Gapps, so we will not have to do this work =D
If the JellyMe developer includes Google Login without Gapps (and fixes the bugs already posted on his thread), I'm sold!
And how about any tips for battery life? I've tried some ICS ROMs, they were quite smooth, all good but I didn't like the battery life, that's why I'm still using CM7. Anybody running ICS can post some battery stats? On CM7, it takes 3%/8 hours with airplane mode, but with ICS 40%!! Did I do something wrong(I mean bad kernel or flashing gapps) or is it normal with ICS? Thanks
ICS is a really battery eater because more apps are running in background. And it goes fast. You can download different battery savers and check what's the best for you.
Well that's shame, because I'd really like to use ICS(CM9),it has some good functions(killing with back button, smoother and faster than CM7). The weirdest thing is it drains the battery even in deep sleep?!

Don't use ICS if you cannot adapt to its functionality. Yes it has bugs, and yes, you'll be in trouble if you dont know how to make remedies.

I don't want to be rude, because I know that there's a lot of hard, long and sometimes annoying work. I'm happy I can even flash ICS. I've just asked if there's any way to improve battery life (especially when phone is not used). I don't think that low battery life is a "functionality" which I should adapt to.

I'm on 4.0.2 stock and tried out different. Launchers. Latest was Apex, but about 90% of the time I press the Home button, it's getting killed by the system and reloading takes 3-5 seconds.
Okay, switched back to stock launcher and sure as hell it shows similar behavior, although maybe with a lower percentage. I would guess 40-50%. Still annoying.
Any chance to lower that percentage for both? I love Apex and i know I could root and push it to system, but I don't want to go that way yet. I'm very happy with stock ICS, unrooted and boot-locked so far and don't want to set up everything again. I have about 200 apps installed.
Any ideas? ;-)

Update: rebooting the phone seems to help a bit. My last uptime was about 4 days which seemed to have added to the problem tremendously. After rebooting, launchers work again as expected, but after another 24 hours uptime or so, they are getting closed more often again. What the hell!

It's when your memory is low. I had that issue on my fascinate, this may or may not help (I wrote this for AndroidCentral)
This app should fix it: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rs.autokiller I believe this is built into 4.0, but I did a quick check and couldn't find it?
I've been having issues with my phone, and over the past few weeks I figured out how to make my phone a LOT faster. I am running GeeWiz 2.3 GB with KGB Kernel running Voodoo. Obviously you will need to install a Terminal to run the following command, you will also need to be rooted for it to work.
If your launcher constantly reloads every time you press home, try the following command. I had this issue really bad, made my phone unusable this fixes it:
su
Press next line key (enter)
echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 >> /data/local.prop
Press enter.
The next step is to enable Z-Ram, I haven't fully tested it (just did it 10 minutes ago) but from my understanding it is virtual memory, so it can't be bad. Your kernel MUST support it or you will get a error doing it. Again, open terminal and do the following:
su
Press enter.
zram enable
Press enter.
Your phone will reboot. And again, remember to accept the SuperUser request.
Although the kernel is supposed to include the "lowmemorykiller" directly, this app won't hurt. Download "AutoKiller Memory Optimizer". After you download and install (again, you need root). Unless you ABSOLUTELY know what you're doing, don't try to tweak anything. Simply go to Menu, Presets, then select Optimum. I aggressive myself, but you will need to mess with this. Aggressive leaves me with about 90MB of free memory which is great.
Clear your dalvik cache!
This is very important! After you do the following tweaks I highly suggest clearing your Dalvik Cache! The Dalvik cache stores optimized versions (optimized for your phone) of your applications, and stores it in the dalvik cache folder (/data/dalvik-cache). Of course, over time this folder could get large or get full of old apps. When you wipe your Dalvik Cache, your phone will (or at least should) rebuild most of your apps (confirm this?). Anyhow! The easiest way to wipe your Dalvik Cache, you need CWM:
1. Turn off your phone
2. When your phone is fully off (I like to pull battery to be sure), press the VOLUME button while HOLDING power.
3. After a few seconds, the phone will turn on. You should see a red menu. Select Advanced.
4. Select Wipe Dalvik Cache
5. Select Yes - Wipe Dalvik Cache
Note: You use the volume buttons to move up and down and "power" button as the OK. While you're at it, you can wipe the cache partition. This will *not* wipe your data.
Install Latest Swype Beta
There are plenty of sites that explain that you have to do this long procedure to remove Swype to install the Beta. This doesn't seem to be necessary, I found that using Titanium Backup works perfectly fine. First, in Titanium Backup, BACKUP Swype then remove it completely. Reboot your phone. Go to Menu->Settings->Language & Keyboard check for anything that has Swype checked and remove it. Next, head over to Swype's website: Swype | Text Input for Screens you will need to register for Swype Beta. They will send you a e-mail with the installer, once you *install* the installer you will need to login. The latest Swype beta seems to update itself, so you only need to do this once. Download the Swype Package (it's large, use Wifi if you can). The Swype Beta is REALLY good.
Voodoo is a really great add on for the fascinate. Samsung uses a slow, but reliable, filesystem which is based off of FAT adding journalisation and POSIX permissions - and after a few days up time, you'll notice a slower phone. Voodoo converts your filesystem to EXT4, greatly increasing your I/O system! The kernel listed below will allow this.
Slow Gallery
We all have it. Gallery is the worse application any phone could have! The fix? Install QuickPic. I've been using Quickpic for awhile and it is A LOT faster then the stock Gallery. My stock gallery is officially removed.
Car/Home Dock
I don't use or like Verizon's dock software. I removed it using Titatium backup, and installed Galaxy Dock Redirector. Once I dock my phone this app automatically redirects audio through the base.
No Task Killer!
Android 2.2+ you do NOT need a task killer! Android is designed to optimize its memory. By using a task killer you are ending processes that might not even be doing anything. Apps are designed to remain "open". This is how you get a faster execution time when you open the app. Once you close an application, it is put in "Background (or idle)" mode. This allows for it to quickly wake up the next time you use it. Android maintains a list of recent applications, and as you go through your apps (Opening Skype, Facebook, Camera, Market, QuickPic, etc) it will determine that you haven't used "Skype" for a long time and shut it down releasing the memory it was using. Now, what happens on our fascinate is when it hits a certain point the phone gets laggy, in stock form. This is why roms that have a lot of RAM seem to run so fast.
This is where the "AutoKiller" memory optimizer comes into play. It changes the memory settings for when Android decides to kill the background apps. Right now my phone is averaging 90-100MB of free memory. Basically, that means my phone runs like a fresh boot almost all the time! This is why AutoKiller seems to work. My settings run on Aggressive, you can change it to anything but there might be negative effects on this.
Don't pull your battery!
Pulling your battery causes damage to your SD Card! You can reboot your phone by pressing Volume UP and POWER button for about 5-10 seconds. This will restart your phone even if it's frozen.

Managing Contacts
Most people don't know you can manage all your contacts with Google from your PC. You can add, edit, delete contacts. They are instantly updated on your phone. You can do this by signing into your google account and going here: http://google.com/contacts
google.com/contacts
I created a group called "Android Contacts" and assigned everyone I wanted in my phone there. Then I set my phone to only display "Android Contacts" group.

Thanks for the effort and your help. Only problem is, my phone is not rooted and actually I didn't plan to anytime soon. Only problem I have is this launcher issue which becomes worse the longer the uptime is.
I had an HTC Legend before and rooted and modded the hell out it, but one of the reasons I got the the Gnex was to enjoy stock Android in its purest form for a couple of months and maybe start rooting and ROMing sometime next year, when I get bored with it.
So far I was happy to enjoy a phone that actually worked right out of the box without tweaks, UI customizations and other gimmicky. Hmm! Guess it doesn't.

Yes... usually custom roms put a very high priority or "no-kill" for the launcher(s).
Another root solution, although I haven't tested it and I'm not sure it works on the GNex:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
I've tried these scripts and I am a huge fan; refer to the second page where it outlines that you need a patched service.jar file. It links to a site that does it automatically for you. I found it didn't work when trying to install the zip from CWM recovery, so I recommend replacing the file manually by navigating to \system\framework on your Gnex.
Make sure you get the latest supercharger rc file. I believe it was 8.1 or higher. The script itself is very helpful as you're running it.
http://android.mimic.ca/
Use that.
And like the above guy said...the CWM option doesn't work.
So just run the commands that the website gives you in Terminal Emulator.
I don't personally use anything OTHER than this.
The V6 supercharger isn't something I fancy.
Mine doesn't do this. Stock or rom. Might wanna go through your App settings and see what is using up your RAM. That's what causes it. Hope that helps =)
I don't seem to get this problem on 4.0.4 since I updated.

What's the best custom ROM?
This is an awkward question. All custom ROMs are good and this depends on ur personal preference. I would say CM9 will be the best if all the bugs fixed.
If u wan to have its full performance, ROOT it. There are lots and lots of apps for root users, so u should try them out urself. ROMtoolbox will give u a good control of a rooted SGW.
In short, trying and learning are the best ways.

True words. There is not THE ROM out right now in my opinion, so I would advice you to start of with stock and root access. Than once you familiar with it and still not satisfied, start with the first custom ROM.
CM9 is really awesome, but the camera doesnt work and has a few bugs. Here again, it depends on your personal requirments, some badly need there camera, some don't mind.
With Apps it is pretty much the same. You have to go and search for your personal requirments. Maybe I'll make later a list for you with my recommended apps.

Custom ROM may have customized kernel, different way of multitasking which "should" improve phone performance. Other thing like deodexed, zipaligned which should improve the speed of the ROM.
Some other obvious mods like
1. customized framework-res which gives u a better appearance
2. extended power menu which let u have more options like reboot
3. toggles buttons on status bar which works similar to extended menu
...and more
However, quite a lot of ppl still stick to stock ROM as its overall performance is still very good.
For example, I am using Cow V2, when playing temple run, it is a bit laggy; while my gf is using stock ROM, temple run is running smoothly w/o any lagging.

Generically why dun you google it at youtube....plenty of video previews.
I bought my first android after going thru the previews at the same channel.
The reason I bought the SGW was due the fact....
. The price is reasonable
. The CPU speed is fast
. And of course ICS CM9 by a Developer whose ROM I had used before on my first Android
Just to add too I never went thru a video preview before deciding on purchase.
And to my suprise four of my friends bought the same....coz they knew what I could do with it...

i did actually, but honestly what i saw on youtube reviews are all pros and no cons, i mean they just show how good it was but when a real user posts his/her experience then there comes the cons. thats why i want to know what on real other users. in some forums they say that the camera fails as well as the video and i just want to confirm it, in gaming i know its not the best coz of the single processor but i somehow want it because im not into hardcore gaming.

im using the same phone you are using mate and i think i just need to do it step by step to know personally what things are not decent on this phone. thanks for the reply i got 1 more question mate, do changing the ROM can really improve the performance of the phone? i mean its only customized right? what things do you like on that CM9? some says they use Cow, whats the difference?
All the ROMS here are based on Gingerbread n using the very same kernel created by arco68 n some of the kernels have been modified.
If you wanna know the full capability of the SGW I suggest you try CM9 ICS which is the only IceCream Sandwich made...still in Alpha Release n modifications still being carried out...
Where is your originated country ? BTW ?

These Apps are good for performance.
JuiceDefender improves the performance of the batter life.
Gemini App Manager lets you block autostarts of Apps and more.
NoMedia let you set the folders with media, this will save time for the start up and also safe battery, because the media scanner does not search all directories.
RAM Mananger Pro optimises the RAM management, this improves the performance of my SGW a lot. But most probably you will not need this, if you use CM9 or other custom ROMs.

Have tried it, didn't bring the promised performance boost. But try it out and make your own opinion.
For me, RAM Manager Pro made my Stock ROM much smoother than SuperCharger.

Hi THE-E...just for clarity...
You mean Ram Manager Pro......right??
Not this one.....Memory Booster -RAM Optimizer
You say Ram Optimizer Pro here, and Ram Manager Pro elsewhere
First – I know this forum is not the right place for this post but as a new member I am not allowed to post in T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II Android Development
Appreciate it if anyone could help or offer links….
Background – Recently rooted my T989 for six reasons:
1. Remove (or freeze) T-Mobile and Samsung bloatware with Titanium
2. Ability to create complete a backup of the phone with ROM Manager and quality backups of each individual app with Titanium
3. Save power effectively/efficiently with Juice Defender
4. OC the CPU (I now know rooting the native phone ROM is not sufficient to OC CPU)
5. Finally I was pissed the Samsung (Kies)/T-Mobile upgrade from gingerbread to ICS (4.0.3) basically did NOTHING to improve my user experience/enjoyment of the phone.
6. Change USB packet size with SD Speed (After many benchmarks and actual UBS transfers to/from a desktop it is clear changing USB packet size for groups of files larger than 1MB is basically useless on my phone/SD card)
Use Profile - At least weekly… I use the phone to:
1. watch various codec files and streaming online video (via HDMI) – App MX Player and Dolphin
2. email (various email providers) – App Mail Droid
3. play mp3s (through phone speaker or Bluetooth) – App Poweramp
4. play games (on and off line) – App various
5. social networking – App Facebook and others
6. use mapping programs in conjunction with GPS – App Google Maps and Sygic
7. monitor/check car performance/sensors with OBD II software connected via Bluetooth – App Torque and others
8. take and modify pictures/video – App native Camera and others
9. Web surf – App Dolphin
10. reference phone sensors (tilt, acceleration, magnetic) – App various
11. reference offline technical material like ElectroDroid, handyCalc, and Universal Converter
12. move large files (like a thumb drive) with USB between Windows computers (The only physical mod I have done to the phone is addition of a 64GB SD Card)
13. provide an alarm clock – App native Clock
14. Finally and most important Creation/Modification of MS Office files (via HDMI with Bluetooth mouse and keyboard connected) – App Kingsoft Office and OfficeSuite Pro
Questions –
1. Is there any way to OC the CPU without installing a new ROM? (not interested in underclocking or CPU sleeping apps)
2. Can I just install a new kernel to OC the CPU? (It looks like “yes” when I read the Kernels section links of “[REF] Your One-Stop-Shop for rooting, roms, kernels and themes![UPDATED!][7/31]”. BUT I’m no UNIX / Linux expert and don’t want to screw the phone up)
3. Will installing ROM DARKSIDE.EVOLUTION.3 provide me with any significant user benefits over my base rooted Samsung ROM? If yes, can you provide a link to benefits? Will I loose capabilities?
4. Other performance modification suggestions would be appreciated.
Tks in advance
To start this definitely would be where you post this, either here or q&a section. This would not be OK to post in the development section as it is purely for development.
Now to address your question, there are a few ROMs out there (including my own)that def do enhance performance and allow overclocking. The most important thing to remember is to Read Read Read before doing anything to make sure everything is done right. And Google has many answers and YouTube has many flashing tutorials, just a tip happy flashing
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Yes you could just flash a new kernel and oc. I'd recommend tdj's dark side. Then again, why don't you just flash a rom? I mean you already rooted your phone (which to me is the most unnerving part). Just make you sure you have the correct version of cwm and wipe cache (or using tdj's super wipe/cache wipe) as needed per kernel/rom/radio(yes, you might to flash a new radio) and you'd be good to go.
I was on dark side rom with the kernel for a while and it seems like it has better battery life over cm9 rc2 which is what's on my phone right now. And since the dark side was based on the official release it is pretty much bug free.

I agree with ptmr3, research and ask questions. Thats exactly what i did before i did anything to my phone. Yes it maybe a scary process thinking about flashing and the possibility of flashing the wrong zip and bricking. But as long as you research, you'll be ok.
They pretty much answered your questions, but feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I got a pretty good knowledge on most things here and i like to help other members out when possible.
Thanks
God I was meaning to make this type of thread but I got lazy I wanted to heavily discuss Darkside Rom. I have flashed it about 3 times. Once with the latest version and 2 with the previous. I really liked it. ICS is amazing and the Kernel gave me a bit more battery than usual (20 hours moderate use)
When I first flashed darkside it was a bit laggy even after wiping cache, data, davlik cache 3 times before running darkside then running the rom that has darkside included... It would crash very often when I had poweramp open. When it played the music would cut off terribly into static with actions such as pulling down the drawer or opening folders/menu. Twitter would crash as well and gmail would be laggy and sometimes give me a bit of a green screen I know I am being a bit picky, but still that bugs me.. Everything else was awesome though.
Things improved with the latest version, but after a while the power amp bugs persisted as well as the slight crashes with twitter and gmail (even though I performed fresh installs of all these apps) Jeez it was so good I ignored the few and rare times it got buggy. But then I noticed that after a while when my battery hit low the time would change the phone would state a totally different time. Like 2 pm. It wouldn't improve until I charged it to 100% and reboot....
It makes me sad I really wanted to stay with ICS...
I am going to try CM 9 but I really liked darkside. Might also try AOKP as well... I never bothered fixing permissions with TDJ's darkside cache wipe Do you believe that would help? I never had rebooting issues and I never really flashed anything on my phone but Darkside.... I did flash a CM nightly inbetween the previous and newer version of Darkside.
Anyone can recommend me any help? I am back to gingerbread it runs smoothly but ICS is just amazing... :\
Also please recommend me some kernels for either gingerbread stock or an ICS rom so I can have better performance and battery life.
I know I wrote a lot but thank you so much guys.

Hey did you use any tools to restore like Titanium Backup whenever you put the new or updated versions of the roms on your phone?
Hey guys... I flshed OKP milestone 6 on my Wildfire, and i have to say that it wotrks pretty fine, considering Wildifre is a low-end phone, there are a few glitches, but most of it works. So far i noticed that stock camera and allery apps do not work (as mentioned in some thread here). i simply replaced the stock apps with some custom ones from the market. but....
GPS also does not work. and i can't fix it. i followed these instructions : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574504 But i still can't make a gps fix. I tried installing Gps status as a monitoring app, and left it for an hour or so, but it still didn't make a fix. i use Copilot for navigation, and all it says that it found a gps signal, but can't make a fix....
Please, i really need GPS, and i usuall use it extensively... can any body help in any way?

Yeh, i know. i had this problem on both CM6 and CM7 i used to have before AOKP. usually, flashing radio with a downloaded zip file helped, but now for some reason, clockwork does not allow me to flash radio, and i don't know why
EDIT: i will try both of the suggestions above mentioned in a few hours, got to go outsinde now, have some work to do, and will let you both know how did it go...

hey, i just tried that tutorial (method 2 from the instructions), using no-ssl patch. i had to copy/paste the files using root explorer because clockworkmod aborted the instalation of both of these two files (anybody knows why?)
anyway, my phone is currently outside, on the balcony, and has been there for about 10 minutes, but Copilot still can't find fix... Also, it may be of importance, although gps is turned on, i do not see the gps icon in the notification bar...
any other ideas?
EDIT: So far i tried the tutorial i used to flash radio when on CM (http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/35540-gps-does-not-work-with-any-cyanogen/), but it still wont work. however i had to downgrade clockworkmod via rom manager, and that might be a problem, since, after a restart, clockwork reverts to a newer version, so, the flash of radio might have not occured at all..
Guys, help! puuhh-leeese!
You know all the information you need is here, Google is your friend.......
This is a very common bug that has happened to just about every cm user and i'd say there a hundreds of threads about it.
Downgrade to the 19.25 radio, reboot and then upgrade to the 20.10 again and the gps should work...
If it doesn't the alternative method is take a backup and flash a sense based Rom, turn on gps open g maps and wait for a fix. Give it a few minutes to get a good position. Then boot into recovery and restore your backup or do a fresh install. Fresh install is best imo....
The reason cwm reverts back is because the old version you flashed is temporary, its not broken and did work as it should.
The agps patch is not a fix for a broken radio but more a change in how and where the gps information comes from.

additionally to scratch's answer and suggestions I'd like to mention that sometimes it's mandatory to follow the suggested solutions with a good portion of accuracy (unless you buy 3 or 4 Android books and try to get a few years experience) - so have you also tried a 3rd radio as suggested in the CM forum or did you just try the 13.53.55.24H_3.35.19.25? What radio did you have before you tried to solve the prob? (just in case... could also be possible that you already had the older one, flashing just the same radio most likely won't help).
to answer some of the previous quedtions - i do not know what radio version was before i started meddling with it, and now it probably doeen't matter, because i tried several different flashes, methods etc coming from various sources.
although, i have to correct myself - the last method (the one with fixing the radio after flashing CM) DID work. it seems that the temporary downgrade of clockwork worked, and i managed to flash radio with the 3.35.19.25 version. i know it because it was the last thing i did yesterday before i gave up and went to sleep. the gps does make a fix with it! the first thing i noticed is the gps icon in the notification bar, and the second was, of course, the fix itself and finding the satellites. guess i was just too tired yesterday to figure that out. and maybe i wasn't exactly at the good spot to make a fix.
so, anyways, it works now, and thank you all for the help and suggestions!
EDIT: however, i do have another question.... i noticed that when my phone is locked and not in use, when sb calls me, the phone lags heavily: the ringtone starts to play, and i have to press the off button, unlock the phone, and then get the option on the screen to answer the phone, and after i chose to answer, the ringtone continues to play for a 2-3 seconds until the call is truly established.... it happened to me on CM 6 and 7, but not to this extent. this is truly slow and painstaking, and we're speaking about the very basic function of a phone. is there any way to fix that or speed that up?

What performance settings do you have? (overclocked?, governor?) - if you didn't tweak anything you probably should have a good read(s) here in the forums what settings others use etc.
Each Wildfire is a bit individual regarding performance (plus it depends heavily on the apps you use, active services etc.). I've rooted my Willy explicitely for the reason to get control over that.
It depends on you how fast and responsive your phone will be as you have total control over everything
For unlocking on calls explicitely: I have a min CPU setting of 264MHz which works reliable but as mentioned above YMMV.

set the processor to have min CPU 352 MHz and max CPU 768 MHz. the scaling governor is set to interactive, i even installed the v6 supercharger script from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126940 so that i don't have to deal with app killers from google play that never really proved their worth.... as for active services (is that the running apps from the apps manager?), i have facebook, go weather (just the widget), clock, dsp manager and android keyboard. total of 7 processes and 9 services... what do you make of that?
p.s. wouldn't a smaller min CPU setting mean a grater possibility of a phone lag?
EDIT (i always seem to edit my posts ): i got an idea to browse to /system/app, and to delete some apps that i think i might not need in hope that that might speed up my phone. however there are some that i don't now if i should delete them. so here's the list of those and please tell me if there is soem app that i shouldn't delete:
AOKtips.apk - i suppose that this is the introductory tips on controling the rom and launcher. i don't think i need this
Apollo.apk - this is stock music player. i use another one
ApplicationsProvider.apk - ??? do i need it?
Broser.apk i use opera next mini an it's much faster
ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter.apk - chrome bookmarks sync? i don't sync my bookmarks, neither do i use chrome on my phone
DownloadProvider.apk
DownloadProviderUI.apk - is this one, and the one before that used for OS update? if so, i might not need them because, i usually don't update system, i am prone to make a full wipe in clockwork and install a fresh, updated system
DSPManager.apk - ??? do i need it?
Email.apk - generic email app, i use gmail, and if not, i would rather enter an address and log into via opera
Exchange.apk - ???? don't know what this one is, but it has the same icon as Email.apk
GalleryGoogle.apk - it has the same icon as stock gallery, which doesn't work anyways, and i use an other app for that
GenieWidget.apk - this looks to be a news widget, and i don't really need it
GoogleFeedback.apk - ??? do i need it?
GooglePartnerSetup.apk - ??? do i need it?
GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk - is this the search widget that appears in the upper part of the screen? if so, i don't need it, i disabled it anyways since it takes away precious screen space
HoloSpiralWallpaper.apk - live wallpaper? don't need it
KeyChain.apk - ??? do i need it?
Launcher2.apk - don't now if i need it if i have nova launcher that comes with the rom?
SetupWizard.apk - ??? do i need it?
UserDictiponaryProvider.apk - is this for predictive text when typing? if so, i don't use predictive text nor anything similar. i type my own texts
VoiceDialer.apk - don't use it
VoiceSearch.apk - don't use it
VpnDialogs.apk - ??? do i need it?
WAPPushManager.apk - ??? do i need it?
would removing these or only part of these speed up the phone? especially when receiving calls, since this seems to be the time when the phone lags the most....
sorry guys for such a long post, and i know that it would take time to read all this, but bear with me, please, my knowledge about android is quite superficial, i still think i know only the basics, and what i've picked up from other people and from googling

doesn't look you have some memory wasters there (besides Facebook lol - nags me every day). I've dropped V6 for several reasons (too long to explain here and now) and use an app from the playstore (autostarts) to find out and cut automatic startups (one of the few apps to be worth to pay for, if you're used to compile you can get it on Github, too - open source).

yes, but like I said: min 264MHz works fine for me most of the time. Plus I'm using setCPU to explicitly set the screen off value.

unfortunately you have to do some work yourself :silly: because I'm either short on time and - even more important - it's not always yes or no if you can delete it (depends on your setup, prefs and likes) - but you could read the approximately 20-30 posts from here in the LeWa thread where slymobi and me are discussing almost all CM7 system apps (including our keep/delete lists)
My personal major finding was AutoKiller Memory Optimizer (which you might know from the V6 thread). In fact I knew about the app for a long time but always missed testing it. When I did my phone already felt fast and snappy - no lags at all - but that really gave it a remarkable additional boost... (in your case most settings are done by V6 Supercharger - but to be honest I never had the same feeling with that script - but: ymmv).

i just uninstalled v6 supercharger and removed some of the system apps by taking a look at the links you've provided me, and as well as taking a look at tables and lists from these links: http://www.vmroms.com/index.php?topic=35.0 and http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barebones....
right after root explorer finished with moving the apps from /system/app/ (i moved the apps to sd-card for backup), the system restarted automatically, and i got the AOKP flash animation. i nearly **** my pants, as i thought "that's it, broke my phone" , but, once the system got up again, the difference is amazing!! the phone literary flashes through menus and options etc... i will try out autokiller memory optimizer and autostarts to see if i can squeeze some more perfomance.
will update you on the results, as for now i still didn't receive any calls, so i can't comment on that.
oh, and, p.s. the apps that i removed from /system/app/ are:
AOKTips.apk
Apollo.apk
ApplicationsProvider.apk
Browser.apk
Camera.apk
ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter.apk
DSPManager.apk
Email.apk
Exchange.apk
GalleryGoogle.apk
GenieWidget.apk
GoogleFeedback.apk.
Launcher2.apk
HoloSpiralWallpaper.apk
MagicSmokeWallpaper.apk
PhaseBeam.apk
PicoTts.apk
UnicornPorn.apk
UserDictionaryProvider.apk
VideoEditor.apk
VisualizationWallpapers.apk
VoiceDialer.apk
VoiceSearch.apk
VpnDialogs.apk
and just for the fun of it, i downloaded latest stable cm7 rom and extracted camera.apk and gallery.apk from it, and pasted it into /system/app/ since, well the stock camera and gallery in AOKP m6 don't work, but, after a restart, the phone didn't show them at all, does anybody know why is that? these apps worked quite fine on CM 7, i thought they might work here as well
and BTW, i still can't figure out how do i make an incoming phone cal wake up my phone?when sb calls me i can hear the ringtone, but the screen if off and i have to press the on/off key, unlock the phone and only THEN i get the option to answer/reject the call. it's an idiotic glitch that i can't seem to solve....
All the effort i see invested in CM9-CM10_AOKP with as mayor problem that all the memory gets consumed so that only few applications can run ????
I ask myself why !!!
Tried out CM9/CM10/OAKP(franklin)) and installed a2sdx and int2ext4+ .... just to be able to get some applications running
Not only is the thing getting horribly slow and very buggy it is in fact completely unusable at this time.
Ex standard applications as Google play are completely failing ....
it is possible to download aps and install them manually but then you can not support it any more.....
These are NOT rom's for daily use. not in a long shot .
its back to good old Piethtz who took pride in finishing stuff untill it was WORKING AND STABLE.
Bugs in AOKP (franklin) just use it it fails and crashes
bugs in CM9 lagging like hell practicably impossible to use the keyboard
and do not tell me not to use a2sd functionality it's simply not worth it for 2 applications/not even for 30 ... then Stock roms are way better.
A long as that memory limitation problem is there android notebooks and phones are dead, not worth investing in not in 2012
If their architecture is such that this is killing the use we should abandon android architecture its mis concieved
this is not the quality of windows
this is not the quality of linux
this is not yet .....
if installing multiple applications use a simple symbolic or direct link is getting in so much trouble the real quality of the whole is not Good
with all respect for the work of ericas and ....
signing off
you should know there isnt an old windows phone or whatever that can run windows 8 via an unofficial way.
ics/jb is not made for our gio's, and so, it wont work as good as you want it to be. if you want that, buy a galaxy s3. they even give you a better screen and processor.
so stfu and live with it or get rich and buy high end smartphones.

Did you try link2sd?
By the way I've just installed this rom, and I think it's the first usable Android 4 for Gio.
Camera and camcorder working finally, everything's running stable and smooth (yet).
The only thing I haven't experienced yet is battery life. If it can take 1.5-2 days with average usage, it will pass my high standards that no other non-stock based rom have passed yet.
Oh, and after installing some basic apps(Skype, Maps, GMail, TC, etc...), I still have 108MB free on internal mem.
So no, it's not a joke, it's the best ROM out currently for Gio (a smooth camcorder like the TW Camera in stock would be good, but this is just a minor negative point if you take the features that ICS gives into consideration).
I say this after trying about 30 different ROM's in the past half year...
I'm sorry to ask you this: did you pay for his work? which makes you right for komplain about it?
installed a2sdx and int2ext4+ .... just to be able to get some applications running
this is your problem
two scripts that do the same thing
chose only one of them (i recomment cronmod int2ext+ if you want that kind of script, i use link2sd and link only the games)
and in developer settings choose force gpu rendering(for better battery aver all) and smartassv2 or interactive
Some bugs
Can someone please post this in the dev thread? I don't have 10 posts yet...
So far I've found these four bugs:
-(MINOR) Ringtones play only once if there's no ANDROID_LOOP=true OGG metatag in the sound file. By the metatag it seems rather a feature than a bug, but in 2.3.x roms it was not needed, and it can really troll new rom users. Please fix if possible, or write instructions (convert file to ogg and set the metatag, that's all but it needed me a lot of googling to find it)
-(MAJOR) Init.d settings (at rom settings) cause heavy load, and settings won't stay (su permission request accepted of course). It can't be enabled at all because of this.
-(MAJOR) Google Talk from gapps-ics-20120429 FC with "Need GTalk_SERVICE permission".
Tried first by just installing talk.apk (extracted from gapps) as system app, then by flashing the whole gapps zip, then with full wipe, rom reflash and flashing gapps immediately after rom flash, but no luck. Tried CWM fix permission too (no effect), but couldn't try rom init.d feature fix permissions due to the previous bug.
-(CRITICAL) If I go outside the signal area of a WIFI AP (without turning off wifi) and there's no other available connection (I don't have mobile net atm), the whole system crashes when an application tries to initiate a connection.
No response to:
-Touch
-Back softkey long set to kill
-Pwr hardkey, home hardkey
Only removing battery helps, however my live wp (phase beam, the one that's integrated in the rom) moves until that.
It happened two times:
-Wifi dropped due to signal loss, unlock phone, push browser icon, browser icon glows, crash
-Wifi dropped due to signal loss, unlock phone, open wifi settings (with wifi powerswitch longpress), select another ap to connect to, start to enter wpa passphrase, crash after typing 4 chars (some process in the background may have tried to initiate a connection meanwhile)
If you can't reproduce tell me and I'll try in USB Debug to get a logcat dump.
I still say this is the best ICS/JB rom out for Gio, but if you can fix these it'll be completely perfect

installing multiple a2ad.. methods one after the other gives similar errors that disappear when not installed. Up to no one published this serious memory handling BUG in the center of ics cm9/scm10/aokp biggest problem area.
problems in the center area need to be solved if people want to believe in any future for the Rom.
why invest time in any os if people are not assured the main problem lack of memory handling poses a risk of complete failure
that is the reason for the"is this a joke?"
the hard work of the developers is NOT assured questioned nor diminished
I refered to linux and windows as basic fundamental robustness as a base.
individual apps anoi one person.failure into the core make everything fail

you have crash on my rom? R u kidding me ? R u using any tweak? I use that for gaming/internet and music at same time and no crash, try reflashing rom, also cm is bigger than aokp, that's why cm9/cm10 are laggier, but with aokp jb or ics rom isnt crashing

In my opinion I find your AOKP to be the most efficient and stable ROM I have installed on my phone so far. The battery so far has lasted up to 2 days while I have been receiving calls and playing games and its only at 66%! I am loving your ROM. No crashes so far. Thanks for all your (and erikcas, jellaxy's) hard work.

No tweak. Some apps uninstalled from system (trebuchet, live wp's), and link2sd that's all. With link2sd Google Maps is on SD, maybe it's background service doesn't like it, apart from it there's nothing wrong I could've done.
CPU settings: clocks at stock, governor is SAv2.
About 1 crash / day. Newer crashes seemed unrelated to wifi signal drop.
Set higher minfree value

CPU Settings? Because mine lasts only one day, but I use phase beam live WP, so that could be the cause if you use similar settings as I.

You can use linke2sd on AOKP(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968537) it works for me.
And stop complaning in every thread. The developers are making their work for fun and most important for FREE.
