[Q] sound customization apps and autocorrect q - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Tried searching but I don't think I'm using the right terms.
1) is there a way to change the default TW screen press sound? I'm a bit of a Star Trek nerd and want the TNG-era computer sound for my screen presses
2) what causes damn near every app I have to run in the background when there isn't a need for it to do so (for example, Inotia4 rpg) and how do I stop them without having to freeze them?
3) how do I make autocorrect replace typos automatically without me having to click the correction in the word list?
4) why is this phone so damn awesome?
Thanks and don't flame too hard if I missed stuff via search... xda-ing when the boss isn't looking is kinda hard.

1. Yes. You can overwrite the touch sounds if you're rooted.
2. If you don't close the app after using it, it's going to run in the background. It will usually stay cached, but you need to watch out for some apps that actually run and drain battery from the background.
3. Depending on your keyboard, there should be an option that lets you do that.
4. Because it's part of the Galaxy S series

Re #2, thats the thing. Most is stock crap running in the background but why do apps that I havent ran, like inotia4 and other games running too? Is it because I'm using a task killer (to monitor free ram, not to auto terminate stuff)?
Re #3, I'm using the stock sgs3 keyboard and cant find the settings. Heh

It's just a matter of programing it to listen to the accelerometer and trigger landscape when its over 50 degrees...now if only someone could do that
as stated before use a different launcher
pro launcher does it, etc.
In the US, if you insert power (micro usb) then headphones, it'll go into landscape... and stay in it some times until you cycle putting the headphones in and out a couple of times...
Actually rather annoying at times...
Another launcher is truly the easiest way.

How are these comments at all usefull? If everyones attitude was "use another launcher" or "use another app" nothing would get developed here, It would be full of lazy people using "other" launchers

This is possible, A team of devs managed to program the same functionality into the desire s's htc sence ports. At first only devices with H/W keybords could get it into landscape mode, but the devs programed it to listen to the accelerometer instead

Thanks for that Andro kinda got over it anyway, just would've been cool to do what my transformer does ie. landscape to portrait depending on accelerometer, and when I saw that the play changes to landscape with the gamepad out it didn't make sense that it wouldn't do it normally :-/

Maybe we will get it in the next update? Anyway I'm kinda getting into java, so I might try something, but it might take a while

Closing apps with ics

Is there a way to close apps using the "other apps" area, ie when you hooks down the home button and see list of recent apps, Swype left or right to remove from list, but this doesn't close them. Is there a way so that it will close the apps?

It does close them

Task Manager
or
Giving phone a mini-bath
Yeah use task manager
I just want to be able to Swipe then away like it has without without having to go to another screen. For example (sorry to use this as an example) on iOS a user can double tap the home button to see all running apps and can close the apps right there. I want to be able to do the same thing with the system we have.

Can I ask why? Android handles task/memory management without your intervention. The only time you should have to manually close an app is if it stops responding.
swiping from the recent list does close them...
Yes, this is correct, swiping from the recent list does NOT close any apps, it just clears them from the list.
If you wanted to force close an app click the task manager button, then click exit or exit all on the Active Applications tab.
Wrong..... It does close them. End of discussion. Look at your task manager then do the screen wipe and clear all tasks... Check task manager again... All gone.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
It does close them but beware, unless the application is ACTIVELY running in the background closing applications will do nothing but free a little RAM (which you have plenty of) and will decrease battery life if you restart the applications at a later time.
Right now I have 26 Apps "open" and have no slow down. All in all I suggest you leave them be.

[Q] Measure Lag

Its well known that iOS is known for their almost lagless software. Android has had lag issues in the past and tries to remedy this by improving CPU and size of RAm. But i still sense lag when opening programs sometimes or unlocking my screen or even refreshing a weather widget. Galaxy S3 is supposed to be one of if not the fastest android phones available but still suffers from some of the same problems that the G1 had. O well...i guess google has to stick with the framework they've already written. It'd be nice though if there was an app that measured lag. I know there're several benchmarking apps that measure overall speed but are they any that measure response time of a phone? An app that maybe runs several processes in the background and asks the user to touch the screen. Maybe type a few words using the keyboard or open and close a folder or two...
What apps are you having issues with, exactly? What firmware are you running?
Hate to admit it but I notice lag all over this phone on TW opening messaging unlocking the phone and stuff, on AOKP no lag what so ever. I don't think its Googles doings or code. More so the carriers and Manufacturers that make these phones full of bloatware and their own code.

Unless im mistaken ios seems more 'lag free' simply because it will only run one thing at a time, it cant multitask.
Android can run multiple apps at once.
If android was coded with the same limitation as ios it would certainly feel even faster.

Not apps really...home button lag. Wake/unlock lag... honestly if my phone can play music while i run a game/ browser, im fine with not multitasking.
If you have an ipod touch or iphone, you'll notice that if you try to load a webpage while continuously touching the screen, the page won't load!! Its using almost of its cpu on screen sensors which equals no lag!
For home button lag, double press home then in svoice go to settings and uncheck open with double home press (or something like that)
The lag is because it is waiting to see if you are single or double pressing the button.

Since we are on the issue of lag. Xda has not been friendly to me since I got the phone. If I browse for more the 10 min. It's impossible to scroll through posts its like it ran out of ram and skips top to bottom when I scroll. If I keep trying it will FC on me. Running stock

Browser zooms where I scroll

I always scroll from the side of the screen and now with JB, it zooms. I for one pinch to zoom... I don't need it where I scroll. Does anyone know where or how to kill this?
Thanks!
John
Scroll from the middle. I'm not seeing anything in settings.

I actually like it just wish I could control it. ie make it only one side or the other not both sides. its handy for one handed operation but yes like you I scroll from the SIDE (so I can keep reading) and now I can't. Grrr
Happen to me as well.. Glad to see it happening to others.. When it happened to me I thought I was going crazy

I am having the same issue, so I downloaded the google chrome browser because I was so annoyed and getting headaches..... Also NOT HAPPY with the stock Keyboard not having the mic (voice input) button on the keyboard, you have to press three different buttons to get to it, SO ANNOYING, so I downloaded the Jellybean Keyboard from the App Store (which I do not understand why this phone didnt come with a Jelly Bean Keyboard..
Nm I lied

Where did my ring tones go? LOL

Hi gang!
So I finally rooted my phone and now i am starting to remove that I dont want. I am using Titanium Backup and for right now just freezing apps so I dont remove the wrong app.......However, I cant seem to find the app that is playing with my ring tone, ringer, alarm clock.... my phone just vibrates.
Did anyone go through this issue and if so what was the app called?
Thx!!
Ok gang....

To be honest I did it by accident!
When I had no sound I start to look at all apps frozen....and that was one of the apps frozen. I guess my fat sausage finger have a mind of their own... :good: LOL!! JK!!
From now on i will use the pen all the time. When using the pen it even highlights each app so you know you are adjusting the right app.
