Its well known that iOS is known for their almost lagless software. Android has had lag issues in the past and tries to remedy this by improving CPU and size of RAm. But i still sense lag when opening programs sometimes or unlocking my screen or even refreshing a weather widget. Galaxy S3 is supposed to be one of if not the fastest android phones available but still suffers from some of the same problems that the G1 had. O well...i guess google has to stick with the framework they've already written. It'd be nice though if there was an app that measured lag. I know there're several benchmarking apps that measure overall speed but are they any that measure response time of a phone? An app that maybe runs several processes in the background and asks the user to touch the screen. Maybe type a few words using the keyboard or open and close a folder or two...
What apps are you having issues with, exactly? What firmware are you running?
Hate to admit it but I notice lag all over this phone on TW opening messaging unlocking the phone and stuff, on AOKP no lag what so ever. I don't think its Googles doings or code. More so the carriers and Manufacturers that make these phones full of bloatware and their own code.

Unless im mistaken ios seems more 'lag free' simply because it will only run one thing at a time, it cant multitask.
Android can run multiple apps at once.
If android was coded with the same limitation as ios it would certainly feel even faster.

Not apps really...home button lag. Wake/unlock lag... honestly if my phone can play music while i run a game/ browser, im fine with not multitasking.
If you have an ipod touch or iphone, you'll notice that if you try to load a webpage while continuously touching the screen, the page won't load!! Its using almost of its cpu on screen sensors which equals no lag!
For home button lag, double press home then in svoice go to settings and uncheck open with double home press (or something like that)
The lag is because it is waiting to see if you are single or double pressing the button.

Hi guys. So, now when we have Jelly Bean and all things are really smooth, what's the slowest/most lagging app on your phone?
Ironically for me it's the official XDA app.
XDA app stutters like crazy. Surprisingly, Facebook is really smooth.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
the youtube app is the slowest to open (1-2 sec after u tap the icon) , whereas other apps mostly open instantly.
as for lags and stutters well there is a big list of such apps, xda is definitively one of them
I am the slowest thing on my phone - everything else - super fast.

Netflix is still laggy when I open it, but that's not the phone's fault. Everything else seems to be up to par.

Do you exit from apps with back button? For the first time it relly takes about two seconds, but later it loads instantly if i exit from app with home button.
Power Amp is the slowest to open on my phone, but once I'm in, it's fast.

Does anyone have App Drawer lag? if you leave the app drawer long enough and don't use it, then when it comes to using it and you open it, does it lag a tiny bit for the first swipe?
I don't know if it's just me getting that but it's random and looks like it's sticky or something.

What launcher you're using? I use Nova launcher and it's buttery smooth. Also lag could be caused by inproper CPU speed/governor settings.
I am using apex launcher and its very smooth.no lags or something.

Hey guys, something has really bothered me lately. The whole OS is so smooth and all, but everytime I leave an app or leave the app drawer then opening it again has a very nasty lag that is a very big turn off. I searched for this issue and saw that I wasnt the only one who had this problem.
Here is the same lag on the Nexus 7:
http://youtu.be/cK8n54YiabE?t=4m55s
and on the Galaxy Nexus:
http://youtu.be/qN3EXAFRxKQ?t=4m23s
Could anyone tell me how to why this issue is found on Jelly Bean and how to fix it? I'm on stock 4.1.1 btw.
get apex launcher and turn off the app drawer fly in animation.
i noticed this too,but only in the first page of the app drawer...

Dude, how can you even count that as lag? I run Ubuntu 12 on my laptop and it lags like ****. I run Windows 7 on a high-end desktop.. it lags like **** sometimes. There is seriously about 0.1ms of lag there, get over it.
Does it bother you that it takes several seconds for your web browser to open XDA? "Damnit, this bothers me!!! The interwebz LAGS!!!"
At first I thought you were running ics which does have lag, then I saw the nexus 7 video. I watched it and started laughing my ass off, there's not even a slight bit of lag in that. And my device doesn't lag neither.

Maybe my eyes are lagging, I missed it.
I can't believe people are so obsessed with micro lag that is not even visible to 80% of people. Suck it up already, no need to tell the whole world about how your app drawer launches 0.1 mill second slower. Its not the end of the world.

Yes, but not when opening the drawer, but switching to the next page.
And I wouldn't call it laggy, it just reacts with delay to the swipe. The swipe itself is perfectly smooth.
SMH.

Oh, no wait, I didn't. You crazy, bro.
Have you tried setting window animation scale, transition animation scale, and animator duration scale in settings --> developer settings to 0.5x or 0x at all?

Even that lag is nonexistent if you wait a split second to scroll after opening the drawer. It's called the launcher has to populate the apps and widgets on first launch/scroll. If you launch the drawer and go for the first scroll "as fast as you possibly can" then you're just purposely looking for a microsecond of lag to complain about.

I don't know, I think the whole phablet thing had many hesitant about this phone. I sincerely hope you're right though. I love CM10, PA, and other similar ROMS but they take so much time to get fully functional. I just hope there is Dev out there who will jump in and take it on for our Sprint variant.
the note II is anything but perfect. I have a lot of "gripes" with it.
first 320dpi. seriously? is that a joke I could not root it fast enough to get it going at 240dpi. Ahhh so much better
burst mode is borked. the huge delay built into the implimentation on the Note II renders is useless. as a temp fix use best shot its instant but only 8 shots.
on my S3 I can assign my favorite upload method (imgur for pictures youtube for video) as defaults. just tap the imgur or youtube icon and its going
this is GONE in the NOTE II I have to tap share and scroll to my selections EVERY TIME. very annoying once you got used to the S3 way.
toggles are gone. so I can't turn off mobile data etc.. on the Note II easily from the pull down like I can on the S3.

They also can help prevent accidental pocket-dials (or whatever else). As it takes a bit more effort to drag to a target, opposed to just tapping on a direct dial shortcut on your home screen.

Seriously, it's one thing to complain about issues that affect the performance of a phone and how it's used and another to complain about completely trivial matters that are purely personal taste. Your complaints seem to be the latter.
You don't have to use the lock screen widgets. Sure, you'll get the screen edge reminders that there are pages on either side(for about a second), but they fade away.
I personally don't care for the lock screen widgets. I usually forget they're there. Would I want them completely removed? Nah, Google might have something in mind for them later down the road.

There's no reason not to disable them completely except your issues with me complaining. Get over your bias and see that this OS should be about having lots of options. If we don't want to use lockscreen widgets, we should be allowed to disable them entirely, simply because we don't need them enabled if we don't use them at all to begin with.
What we need is a single widget with clock weather missed calls etc. It should be here soon. If not then use widgetlocker or a ROM with 4.1 style lockscreen. This is android device there are always going to be options.

Unless you do what certain people say and keep Android as a base with very few or no options and having to depend on 3rd party developers to give you something else to do with your phone.
Android shouldn't follow this iPhone model when doing things. It should have plenty of built-in options as well as 3rd party options, not a lack of the former.

Well, I just got my Note II yesterday and haven't noticed a problem. I heard about it mainly on the S4 though. But some people always criticize TW as laggy. I guess they mean the occassional force close or little glitch or bug?
The lag issue, I believe, most user's are referring to is the "phone wake up lag"
When you wake the phone after it has been off for a few seconds it doesn't instantly turn on.There is a lag..
When you hit your power button to turn on and access your smart phone you would expect it to be instantaneous. It is not.
I don't expect anything to be instantaneous. I think people over do it sometimes.
