Closing apps with ics - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Is there a way to close apps using the "other apps" area, ie when you hooks down the home button and see list of recent apps, Swype left or right to remove from list, but this doesn't close them. Is there a way so that it will close the apps?

Task Manager
or
Giving phone a mini-bath

Yeah use task manager

I just want to be able to Swipe then away like it has without without having to go to another screen. For example (sorry to use this as an example) on iOS a user can double tap the home button to see all running apps and can close the apps right there. I want to be able to do the same thing with the system we have.

Can I ask why? Android handles task/memory management without your intervention. The only time you should have to manually close an app is if it stops responding.

swiping from the recent list does close them...

Yes, this is correct, swiping from the recent list does NOT close any apps, it just clears them from the list.
If you wanted to force close an app click the task manager button, then click exit or exit all on the Active Applications tab.

Wrong..... It does close them. End of discussion. Look at your task manager then do the screen wipe and clear all tasks... Check task manager again... All gone.

It does close them but beware, unless the application is ACTIVELY running in the background closing applications will do nothing but free a little RAM (which you have plenty of) and will decrease battery life if you restart the applications at a later time.
Right now I have 26 Apps "open" and have no slow down. All in all I suggest you leave them be.

get advanced task killer free from the android market
install, go into it, select the program your thying to kill and simply press the button at the top, "kill selected apps" as far as I can remember..
if that doesnt work go into the app (hotspot or whatever you're trying to close) press menu and see if it has any options to do with the notification bar icon...
hope this helps! good luck!
Thanks for your reply but already tried both. Just won't go away and really don't want to wipe.

Galaxy Nexus ICS Regcent clear widget?

I was sitting here with my galaxy nexus and wondered if there is a widget of some kind that clears out the recent tab?
Does anyone one know where, or could anyone make one?
Recent tab of what?
Not recent tab, but when you press the recent apps key, if there is a app to remove all the apps you just been in instead of removing one and one app..

I do not think that swiping away apps from the recent tray is the same thing as killing them.

Nope, swiping an app away from there doesn't kill anything, all it does is remove it from the list. It's a "recent apps" list, not a "running apps" list.

It does kill the app tho. I have an app that has a sticky notification thats always there when the app is active and it goes away when i swipe it away. It went away when I used the HTC task killer or Advanced task killer on my Rezound and Incredible, but on the Nex, that kills it

It doesn't really kill the task in the way that you think. It'll kill the foreground process and load things into RAM, but it won't always necessarily just stop it in it's tracks.

Well there are hundreds of task managers available for android. I like ICS' stock (Hold the home button) it provides a snap of what the foreground activity is and allows you to swipe left or right to "dismiss" (NOT KILL) the app.
As far as task killers go, you clearly are a noob xD lol jpjp task killers are a no no for android. Well the automated ones. It actually causes wake locks and kills battery. If you are having memory problems. look up androids minfree values. They are the best way to control apps that remain dormant.
Hope i helped!

Try AutoKiller from the market https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rs.autokiller
I'm on my 5th android phone and I've ran hundreds of ROM's between them. I usually go back to advanced task killer for it's simplicity.
BUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTT you should do what do, monitor which apps automatically restart and make sure those are not checked off. Shutting those down only causes you to drain more battery than if you leave them be, but for me the rule of thumb is any game or non essential app that refuses to shut down, gets UNINSTALLED and replaced with something that plays nice
If you're rooted I would recommend minfree manager from the market.

Close apps

Does anyone know how to close apps when you hold the middle button down without swiping them all? Task managers don't work. Please see my photo

I wouldn't bother. Unused RAM is wasted RAM; Android memory management is WAY better than anything you can do manually so all you're really doing is wasting clock cycles and battery by killing apps that Android is just going to start up again at some point.
All this app killing nonsense is just that, complete nonsense. Stop bothering with it.
