i need help guys.. only 4g data works. i can't make or receive calls/text.
not quite sure if i did something wrong in my mod flashing or if i simply got a phone that doesn't work because i bought it off e-bay. and before i activated i installed [JB 4.2.1] XenonHD mod. why? because i didn't have a sim card and wanted to mod it like i was going to anyways.
let me explain to you what i did any, maybe you may see where i went wrong.
i received my phone in the mail yesterday. i realized i would need a sim card because i was on 3G. so i could not activate right away.
i then proceeded to unlock the bootloader using the v10.1.0 nexus tool kit.
after that i used the option on the tool kit that let me use a custom CWM to install a mod. it was the touch one, sry i can't remember the name (derp)
i then installed from zip - the XenonHD file and the Gapps, 4.2.1 version.
i deleted data + cache + dalvk cache
booted up phone and it worked!! (my first mod yay!)
waited two hours for my brother to bring me sim card. he called to activate
the person he was talking to said it wasn't connecting right and would probably have to wait 15 mins.
since then only data has been working. not any of the actual phone capabilities.
so do you think the phone i bought is bad? did i do something bad?
THANK YOU for reading! i know its long..
update!!! i flashed a stock image. 4.1.1 and i have everything working!! ..but i really liked that mod! would it hurt to switch back??
update: went ahead and did the exact same steps to mod my phone. it works as it should this time. I think something went wrong with the activation process. 3g to 4g. hopefully this helps anyone who has the same problem in the future

I have flashed many ROM's over the past mths well now MY LTE/4g service is slow i am getting .56mbs on the up and like .52mbs so i was wondering what to do... before you ask me what i did i am going to tell you.
1. i wiped factory reset my phone and all that good stuff.
2. flashed new ROM went from at&t Rom's to bell roms to t-mobile roms
everything else is working just fine on my phone i get calls and can get texts and it says that i am connected to 4gLTE however the speed sucks. I checked my phones APN settings and my IMEI looks to be right its not all zeros... so right now i am at a stand still and i just wanted to know how to flash back to stock and start all over again... i tried to look all over for this in the forums but could not find anything.
The current ROM i am on is Jellybean747 M3 Plum.
Thank you for anything that you can help me with.

.56 speeds looks like throttled speeds. Do you have unlimited data? If so, have you passed 5gbs?

yeppp i am throttled i just got off the phone with AT&T what A-holes took me 4 people to talk to and 47mins later!!
thank you for all your help!!!!
I was flashing between CyanogenMod 10 nightlies and DrewGaren's Jelly Bean roms, wiping data every single time and always doing a clean flash when I noticed on CyanogenMod 10/05 nightly that the GPS wasn't catching any satellites at all. It doesn't seem like it's even trying because the GPS dot doesn't even come up in the notification bar. I tried using GPS Test and it just says 0. Same thing with any other GPS application.
I tried flashing to other roms to see if it changed anything and still no luck. Finally, I flashed all the way back to AT&T stock in ODIN and still no luck!! I'm thinking of just taking it to the AT&T store and see if they can do anything about it, I don't know the warranty situation since I bought it off of Craigslist. Anybody have any ideas?
Please don't go to ATT. We can't really help you since you bought it from a. craigslist and b. all we could do is get you to call warranty department in which case they may charge you since it was not purchased at the att store.
Do you know if the GPS ever worked??
Please go to dialer and type *#0*#. In that menu go to sensor test and make sure everything is working properly.
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767929 for a full list of tests you can do to make sure the phone is actually hardware damaged.

Got it working
Hey, thanks for the help guys. I actually got it working. Flashed stock rom with ODIN and did a factory reset and it just started working out of no where. This was after 0 GPS signal on many different roms for over 24 hours.
No idea what caused it to stop working in the first place maybe some kind of conflict with the Drew Garen Sprint based Jelly Bean rom or maybe something in Cyanogen Mod 10/05 nightly. Perhaps the phone got tired of me flashing so many roms and just needed to rest overnight lol.
If anybody else has an issue with their GPS not catching signal at all flash all the way back to stock and factory reset and hopefully it'll sort the issue out.
Wow, everything you described in your OP is happening to me. I believe this happened to me after flashing DrewGaren's ROM too (4 point something). I tried it out then went back to Wanamlite, my DD, and experienced all that you said. After Wanam I flashed 2 or 3 other ROMs and got the same response... no GPS.
Just in the process of Odin flashing a stock image to see what happens.
Edit: Back to stock, then factory reset. Tried accessing the GPS service menu but that didn't work. Final result is that GPS is not working at all and here is no indication in the status bar. Looks like I'll be off to the Samsung store for service...
I think the Drew Garen Milestone 4.5 has something to do with this. It's based on the Sprint leak and maybe that made our GPS wonky.
Just to let you know, the stock firmware I used was this one.
http://samsung-updates.com/get/648/Samsung_Firmware_SGH-I747_ATT_I747UCALG1_Android_4_0_4.html
Hopefully you can get it sorted out. Just wondering, how do you access the GPS service menu? Cause the code I know doesn't work on AT&T Galaxy S 3 at all so I want to see if the code you tried works on mine. Good luck getting your phone working.
Another reason why you shouldn't use DG roms? Lol
I'm running insomnia leaks with no gps issues. Glad to see the OP got his working again.

I did the same here is the fix.
Odin rooted stock ROM
Boot up as normal
Then do a factory wipe under settings.
You should be good to go.

Thanks for the firmware link but I am in Canada with Telus.
As for the GPS Service Menu, I saw some dialer codes for accessing it but they don't seem to work for our model.
It's weird how GPS doesn't show up anywhere on the phone now. Not the status bar or in battery usage stats. I am beginning to wonder if this is a hardware issue more than anything.
I know, it's like the GPS totally disappears from the phone, I thought it has a hardware issue too! I was actually on the phone with Samsung customer support and ended up fixing it while I was on hold.
On my first try I got no results too but when I downloaded the one from samsung-updates, flash via ODIN, and then factory reset the phone from settings that's when I finally got my GPS to work. They have the Telus software up there too if you want to give it a whirl. http://samsung-updates.com/get/2566/Samsung_Firmware_SGH-I747M_TLS_I747MVLALH1_Android_4_0_4.html
But at this point your only recourse might be to get done through Samsung customer support. Let us know what happens.

Thanks, that is the exact firmware I flashed. Just in the process of downloading the I747MVLALE8 version. I know it's older but worth a shot.
I'll update the thread as I go along but am most likely going to the Samsung store in a week or two so there will be a delay in my response.
The disappearing gpshappened to me also. I flashed dg's m 4.5 and thats when I lost gps completely. I did all of the above mentioned in other threads and couldn't get it too come back. At&t replaced it for me. I would advise staying away from sprint leaks I guess.

Update:
Got in touch with Samsung. They forwarded me to the warranty repair company located in my neck of the woods (Vancouver, BC).
Company is called Service Absolut, located in Richmond around Westminster Hwy and No. 6 Road. There is another in Montreal for easterners.
Regular warranty service is 3 business days for $0 OR 3 hour express service for $30. This place isn't too far from my office so maybe I'll give the 3-day service a try..... on second thought I think the $30 might be worth it for same day service. :cyclops:
I ran into the same or similar loss of GPS on DG Milestone 4.5 and 5. I was able to regain GPS on a CWM restore back to Milestone 4.
Really think this is a ROM bug that can be fixed in SW. I'm surprised to hear that some have had much tougher luck than I have.
Anybody heard anything from Drew Garen? (I don't have enough posts to comment in the main thread, or I'd be there)

Yep, this is exactly what happened to me.
I flashed DG's M4.5 and my GPS quit working. Very weird.
I tried 3 other ROMS and no luck. I ended up returning the phone.
Now I really want to flash DG's new ROM but it scares me...ha
Final update:
Took the phone to the service center. Tech looked at the phone and tested but couldn't find anything wrong. He replaced the mainboard and all is now fine. GPS is working well.
Next thing is to check out my new CPU now... I hope it doesn't suck.
Did you factory reset on a stock rom like everyone suggested? I was reading your posts and I didnt see that you did it. Could have saved you $.
That issue used to happen to me all the time in the Infuse 4g.

Thanks for the tip but I factory resetted the sh*t out of my phone, lol. Our phone (Canadian version) only has 2 official firmware releases for it and I Odin'd them both and performed factory reset on both, multiple times. Guess I missed that little tidbit earlier
I really hope this was just a one time occurrence.
So I ran into this same issue, although it was from flashing Smartguy's ROM and then going back to CM10. It does seem to be caused by using the Sprint leak. I was unable to recover my GPS with the above method of flashing to stock via Odin and doing the factory reset.
I decided to try going back to my Sprint leak via a Nandroid, this brought my GPS back. I then used my CM10 Nandroid again GPS was working perfectly, although I needed to use GPS test to get it working on CM10. Hope this helps others with this issue.

Hello
This is my first post here. Well I rooted my S3 and installed the Rom JellyBam I had some issues with the ROM so I decided to remove the ROM using wipe cache, davlik etc. after that the phone was stuck on Samsung logo so I restored the phone using Samsung Kies firmware restore thing.
All went very well software was working well but the phone has very low signal now and don't want to connect to 3g,4g,lte etc. only sometimes appears the Edge symbol and G but its very slow. So Im worried I have been using this phone for 1 month more or less. I really don't know how to fix it I hope someone can help me. I attached some pictures in case some 1 can see something rare. Thanks
Well, you don't remove a rom simply by wiping. Also when you wipe davlik it can take up to ten (10) minutes to rebuild it. Odin back to stock. Always a good way to fix things.

Check your APN settings and of that's not it check for you IMEI under status. If that's gone there's a thread here to follow to fix it but if you don't wanna go that route and you have insurance take it up to the store and get it exchanged

If you're using 4.2 roms, most if not all of them have horrible data issues at least the many I've flashed but that could be because att signal blows...
okay so I just performed the OTA update for my note 2 to version 4.1.2 and now I have absolutely NO cell phone reception whatsoever and gives me a "no network" label and says emergency calls only. I have downloaded the stock rogers 4.1.1 rom as well as the stock 4.1.2 rom and reflashed my note 2 with odin multiple times to no avail. during the update to 4.1.2 via OTA was flawless, no errors or anything, but after the update, my phone became completely useless!! Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can resolve this? I am in desperate need of help as I currently do not have a phone to use

It's funny because my phone, AT&T, has recently been doing the same thing. It jumps from 4G to G then 3G then completely no signal. I'll wake my phone and there are no bars but if I keep it awake and use it for a bit then the signal comes back but very very faint.
Check your apn settings. If they're non existent then jet Google them. Should take 30 seconds to find

same thing was happening to me (although not after the update, as I was flashing cleanROM & skynote) Keep in mind though that I was using those ROMs for quite a while before this started happening to me.
I was never able to fix it, so I flashed it back to stock, and took it to an AT&T store. The guy there switched out my sim and the signal came back immediately. However, I walked out of the store, and within 5 minutes, I was getting absolutely no service. I turned around and went back to the store, and they are doing a warranty exchange on the phone for me.
replacement phone should be here tomorrow. I also got a $100 credit on my next bill because it has been like this for a few weeks.
To the op, if your phone is stock I would take it to your carrier and get it sorted out.

sounds like a missing apn to me. You could do a simple search on google or xda to get the correct apn for your phone & carrier. Input the info in and that should do it. Otherwise, bring it to the store and have them do it for you, but make sure you didn't mod your phone.

Same exact thing happened to me. Got a nexus 4 while my note 2 was in repair. Got it back and was having the same problem. I went to the ATT store and they gave me a new sim card..worked in the store...walked out and 5 minutes later no signal. I really don't know what to do at this point. I had flashed with Cleanrom and Paranoid but when this phone came back they replaced the mainboard so everything is stock again. Really weird. I think I might say see you later to ATT.
Any other ideas please comment.
A few weeks after rooting with cf-autoroot I started getting a notification that my phones sim card wasn't being detected, and it prompts me to reboot. Running stock root with twrp recovery. If i dont reboot it just stays in the notification bar. If i do reboot it goes away for the time being. I still have service and phone still works as far as i can tell but something must be wrong. Some days it will happen 5 times sometimes it wont happen for a week but lately its happening a lot. Anyone having the same problem? Or does anyone know of a fix? Any help would be appreciated i haven't been able to find much on it.

Update to the newest version of galaxy tools it reduces significantly. You can find it in the themed roms section in the Note 4 forum. When I updated I had almost no lost sim card errors. Now when I updated to lollipop I have no Sim Card errors but I do miss using exposed.

Galaxy Tools does have settings for the Sim Card you know. All I know that when I updated my Galaxy tools to the latest 3.0.8 version my problems went away. I am did not make the program so I am not going to tell you something I know nothing about. Just give it a try and see if it works what do you have to lose?
It's been happening to me the past couple days randomly. Just out of nowhere ever since the first time. Never did this before a couple days ago since I had the phone from launch day. Been on Xnote rc2 with AEL 7.2 kernel.
Edit: I just updated to newest galaxy tools, I'll report back on a day or 2. Strange though that it could be that because nothing has changed at all on my phone in weeks, and for this to just start out of nowhere.
Seems fine so far, updated galaxy tools to newest, and pressed unlocked SIM, whatever that does. I'll report back again if I get the SIM notification

I am glad you had an open mind unlike some closed minded people. Sometimes you just have to experiment and find out what you added to fix your problems. Galaxy tool does unlock the Sim Card for international travel and when I updated my updated my phone to the latest 4.4.4 ROM I started having problems. So figured maybe it might have been the Galaxy tools. So I tried updating it and I have not had any no Sim card problems for almost a month now.

Tried this. Thought it might have worked but only made it about 1 day before the error reappeared.
Edit: i have also gotten a new sim and tried galaxy tools (though I'm not exactly sure what settings i was supposed to mess with). Still get the error.
My Fix
Same problem with the sim card. I'm not rooted and have not used galaxy tools. I opened up the back and re-seated the SIM card (took it all the way out and put in back in) and for the heck of it the SD as well. I haven't seen the problem yet (going on 2 weeks).
