'm gonna try and make a long story short. Yesterday I purchased A S3 from ATT..Everything was working fine right out of the box no problems, lte and everything..Well earlier today I rooted my phone and everything seemed to be fine, I even flashed a rom and that seemed to be running fine also, but I noticed when I flashed the rom on the tool bar where it shows what data your running other than Wifi, it said H, don't know what that would be but I know it wasen't lte....So I thought maybe something was wrong with my phone, so I took it to the att store and showed them I wasen't getting 4glte..So they looked on the compyter and everything looked right, then they took it to the back where the service center was and flashed it back to factory....AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW??? It worked...I got 4glte right away..It said it right on the toolbar..I was so happy its working again like it should be...So I get home and root the phone again..everything went fine with the root, well it seemed like it BUT WHAT DO YOU KNOW...YOU GUESSED IT..NO 4gLTE...WHAT is going on here...and this was just off a fresh root no roms or anything...So I'm stuck I don't know what to do or if anyone else has expierienced this or knows a fix...I really want to keep my phone rooted so I can run roms and programs like Titanium Backup
So if anyone knows and can help I'd really appriciate it...thanks for your help and time...
I'm keeping my fingers crossed
As you can see from the picture you can see 4g on the status bar, but check out the speeds...and I'm in a great spot for lte..so something is wrong
Its kind of normal that lte dont work on some roms, you could just stay stock and it will all work, Im not sure why root would kill your lte, how are you rooting?

1st wrong thread, this has nothing to do with development, 2nd if ur getting 4g lte issues then speak to the company u got it from, because not alot of places can support lte atm its like a transition thats happenning 3rd what i can suggest you do is grab a tool like odin, and odin back to stock rom and then use snapdragon tool by mskip its the 2nd or 3rd from this forum up, and go from there and that should help u further on in getting back to normal , and if you're flashing jelly bean roms or what not, you have lte still but it'll show as 4g or what not, which rom have you flashed btw.

You need to check your APN settings and make sure you're using the proper LTE APNs for your carrier and make sure that LTE is available in your area 100%.
Also you need to enable LTE on the mobile connections screen within whatever ROM you flash.

but he's saying he's flashing a rom and losing LTE, but apn most the times stick, thats why i was wondering which rom was it, because then we can let them know to make sure their apn sticks make its easier for anyone else that flashes.
I know first hand wali and his partner in crime have stellar ROMs flash one of those guarantee you won't be disappointed

It could also be that he has lte but the icons says 4G for lte I think it's the case for some roms. Because the phone companies made us believe that hsdpa+ was 4G when in fact it's more like 3.7G more or less. What I'm trying to say is did you do a speed test to make sure?
4G might just be lte after all.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I know when on blackjelly it only shows 4 I believe but the speed test shows lte speeds.

lets blame the companies for skrewing everything up with toggles.
run a speed test and look at more info and see what it shows, also check your apn settings via settings/more settings and mobile network then access point names and then take a screenshot if possible by holding power + home button and post it up, because if u should have LTE service ur apns must be LTE otherwise you will be defaulted to regular apn which might throttle you like whoa well i know our ics doesn't do that but not that i hate anyone's ics, Nun, Ariel and Kyan all have done a good job in their ics's.
I don't know if this helps but go to settings and then about, then status and check network, most likely says UMTS or well it does for me on ALL 4.1.1 rom's. But, go to mobile networks and try to connect to another provider than yours, then when it says it cannot connect, re-connect to your own and I bet you will get HS+. Only problem is, if you toggle on wifi or reboot, you will have to do this all over again to retain the higher network connection.
I have not been able to come up with a solution yet and do not know if it is a 747m problem only or if it effects 747 as well.

Hello
This is my first post here. Well I rooted my S3 and installed the Rom JellyBam I had some issues with the ROM so I decided to remove the ROM using wipe cache, davlik etc. after that the phone was stuck on Samsung logo so I restored the phone using Samsung Kies firmware restore thing.
All went very well software was working well but the phone has very low signal now and don't want to connect to 3g,4g,lte etc. only sometimes appears the Edge symbol and G but its very slow. So Im worried I have been using this phone for 1 month more or less. I really don't know how to fix it I hope someone can help me. I attached some pictures in case some 1 can see something rare. Thanks
Well, you don't remove a rom simply by wiping. Also when you wipe davlik it can take up to ten (10) minutes to rebuild it. Odin back to stock. Always a good way to fix things.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Check your APN settings and of that's not it check for you IMEI under status. If that's gone there's a thread here to follow to fix it but if you don't wanna go that route and you have insurance take it up to the store and get it exchanged

If you're using 4.2 roms, most if not all of them have horrible data issues at least the many I've flashed but that could be because att signal blows...
I have downloaded and done a clean install of the latest ROM from Team-Venom "Wicked Sensations v2.0" First of all the ROM is so in depth, and runs smoother than any other ROM I have used in the last year. There is only one issue. The only way I can use mobile data is if I switch the mobile network to CDMA, 4G LTE does allow me to send and receive phone calls but no text messages, or any data whatsoever. . I have read all of Team Venom's thread, well most of it anyways, and I cannot find anyone else having this issue. I am aware of the rules of the forums, so I am posting this under the Q/A as not to bog down or step on anyone's toes, in the developers thread.
Is there a fix for the 4G data issue, or is it just my phone? I have tried everything I can think of such as..
Flash stock Kernal
Flashed the latest radios
flashed the latest PRL's (not sure what that would do but I did it anyways)
tried toggling airplane mode on and off.
Since nobody else is having this issue, I am not sure what else to try. also, when I am using LTE, I DO NOT have the 4G icon next to my signal bars, like I do when I am on 3G.
Before you ask, yes, I do in fact live in an area that does have 4G, I am in Kansas City Kansas.
Anyone with an idea or know how I would be grateful.

Have you tried resetting you data? ##786#..

Thanks for the replies all. I have done the suggested troubleshooting as follows
1: did a fresh install of the ROM (after wiping EVERYTHING first)
2. went through setup of the device (just to verify 4G was still not working, which it was not)
3. went to dialer and input ##486#
4. chose the reset option
5. entered my MSL # and then the phone did a factory reset.
When the phone came back up I had to go through the setup again, and had to turn on wifi to get through it because the data was still not working.
Also if anyone comes accross this and wants to know how to get the MSL # download a terminal emulator from the market and input "getprop ril.MSL"
Or check out this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28182339
Also while investigating the MSL further I found this possible solution-
"The phone needs to be re-provisioned as follows ##72786# or ##SCRTN# the phone may restart twice, after the restarts, launch a browser and type in your phone number on the prompt."
After following this, when I opened the browser I was not prompted to input anything I was only greeted with a connection error. :crying:
I am still searching for more answers. I am exploring ##DATA# but there is more in here than I am familiar with so I will hold of on this until I know what I am doing.
In the mean time 3G works so I am still able to use my phone just wish I could tether my 4G to my laptop.
Any other ideas are more than welcome.

Tha'ts weird, I just checked mine and it says global network. I switched it toe CDMA LTE and it works. Even sent a test text message to the wife phone and have no issues.. O here might be the issue. If you go to ##3282# under view then advance, see if LTE is enabled or disabled.. If it is enabled then I bet that is why you do not get 4G service.. I believe LTE does not have 4G service just 3G.. I have done this and my 4G went to 3G after enableing it.. If you have it disabled you will get 4G service..
That is a good idea but even then you have to wait five min. inbetween lol why couldn't I remember my old login that would be way easier

Well I have finally been able to get 4G data working on v2.0!!!
1. Wipe EVERYTHING
2. Flashed sensations v1.3
3. Reboot phone into recovery
4. Flashed v2.0
5. BEFORE REBOOTING OUT OF RECOVERY, Flash latest sprint radios
6. Reboot phone one last time
This has made 4G data work for me.
Im in the car right now, will try to remember to post a link to the latest radios. And PRL Updates. Those are nice to have too.

This is what I did and it seemed to work. I switched to cdma only then update profile and prl. Then when I switched back to cdma/lte everything seemed to work fine.
Titles says it all. I live in the baltimore MD area, and where i used to get 3-4 bars of 4g it wont connect to it anymore. I boot it up and it defaults to 3G. Ive tried playing with the mobile data settings and nothing has worked.
Does anyone have any ideas...because i use my phones data connection as home internet right now...
How long has it been happening? It possible the tower is being worked on.

It just started today. Im on CM10 and i would occasionally lose a 4g connection and would have to swtich the mode from lte/whatever/whatever to the other mode...and then back to reconnect..but thats not working anymore....
Edit: This is killing me because I use it for home internet. Im paranoid simply because this is the first month ive used 4G ever...meaning i never even turned lte mode on in the mobile data settings..i didnt even know it was in my area until the beginning of this month.. Im just wondering if me toggling it on and off to get it to connect through CM10 caused this... Thats why im coming here..to smarter people then myself begging and pleaing for assistance and guidance.
Could it perhaps be that sprint was just testing my area for 4g?? OR how long does tower maintenance usually take.. Or that they cut me off from using 4g after using 30gb so far? I mean i have an unlimited plan so it shouldnt be an issue
No they didnt cut you off, they would send a letter before doing that
Second, it usually takes about 2-3 weeks for maintenance to complete on a tower. If you're really concerned, call Sprint and ask if they're in the process of upgrading towers in your area. Who knows, they might even give you some sort of "we're sorry for the inconvenience" credit

Im eyeballing this thread like a hawk for opinions and posts like this. Thanks for your input.
When I first used 4G It was actually by accident on the CM10.1 Nightly. I pressed the Mobile data toggle square in the settings and i saw 4g, I was thrilled that it was in my area. Switched back to stable CM10 and checked if it was up and running. and much to my surprise it wasnt some weird graphical error just showing the 4g icon. It was legit working.
Still isnt working on any rom ive flashed here. Now though since the issue began.
What are the chances in the short time ive used it, that i could have possibly damaged my phones abaility to connect to 4G? Sorry if that question is dumb.
Very little. I doubt that its a hardware issue, because if it were, you would see other things like core apps FCing, the other radios taking longer to connect, maybe even hot reboots when trying to turn on 4G
Like I said, when you have time call Sprint. Most likely the towers are being worked on and they turned it off meanwhile
You might wanna also wanna get Sensorly (from the Play Store) just to doublecheck for LTE in your area
Sent from my PG06100
When 4G lte came on in my area it was on for a couple of weeks then they shut it down for 4 or 5 days then it came on and it's been on for almost 3 months. Just fyi this might be what's going on.

I'm experiencing the similar issues, though I flashed over a ASOP Rom that has parts from cm10.1 though the Rom was ported from Verizon, but 4g worked perfectly fine, then when I flashed back to cm10 it stopped working. I'm debating on flashing back to that rom and see if it also does not have access to 4g at this time.
Edit/Update: I flashed back to my stock rom with root then flashed an updated MA6 Rom, updated the PRL, Profile and such, still no 4G. Decided that I'd mess with a few 4g settings, still problems. Then I flashed back to CM10 and my 4G works again.

Thats a bit of work, so this could possibly be some janky setting on my phone still huh?
EDIT: I dont have my stock rom backed up. Dont know what happened to it. Could you explain what exactly I need to do to achieve the results you have posted man?
Sorry for the late reply. It could possibly be a setting on your phone. I say make a backup of your rom, flash a stock based rom, kernel & firmware, if it's not ma6 find an update or one based on it. Update the prl and profile. See if you can get 4g working on tw, if not then either restore back to cm10 or try messing with the lte settings, their are some that allow you to enable or disable and such. I also do recall a setting for ehpd 4g or lte 4G. After messing with them try restoring back to cm10. If you take a picture of the lte menu I can look and tell you what settings I clicked.
Edit: Just looked at the link try the lte force cause I know I pushed that button as well as a few others.

I just had this issue after flashing that Rootbox ROM which was ported from Verizon. I performed the above steps and everything's working fine.
THANKS!
Even in places where I normally get a very strong 3G SPRINT signal, my phone will roam. Just started today after I flashed DeviantXone ROM with 3.4 Linux Kernel (test build from yesterday). Anyone have any suggestions to fix this issue? Thanks a lot.
Try restoring a nandroid, backing up your IMEI (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30682712) and then reflashing your ROM. The back up may not be needed as sometime the problem fixes itself. It's happened to me a few times and tends to happen upon first flashing a ROM but usually when I reflash all is good. However it is a good practice to have your IMEI backed up in case this happens.

I have a nandroid my old ROM (Liquid Smooth); so I should first backup my current ROM (DeviantXone), then restore Liquid Smooth, backup my IMEI, then restore DeviantXone, then restore my IMEI.... correct?? How do I backup my IMEI and how do I get to it to restore it? Thanks!

That should work, and just follow the steps listed in that thread on backing up your IMEI. You have to use adb, if you don't know how to use adb, go to the Q&A thread on this subforum and read the ADB workshop thread.

Damn that seems complicated lol... I'm at school now, guess I'll have to wait till I get home to try this.
Ok so I restored my nandroid (on it now) and it's still roaming... So does that mean my IMEI is totally screwed?? What do I do from here..

What did you do? I have tried about 6 different Roms, multiple flashes of the same roms, different kernels and no matter what I do I can't connect to sprint... Let me give you a background... I had CMW installed andI flashed hyperdrive. At first it booted fine and everything looked good but after a reboot the phone would just boot loop. So I reflashed it with a different kernel but this time no network, and I flashed almost any rom I could get my hands on from AOSP to the other samsung ones.... Please anything to help??

I just nandroid back to Liquid Smooth (was on DeviantXone prior) and let the phone settle in for about 5min and BAM it connected to Sprint's network. Then I re-flashed DeviantXone once I got home and all was good! Didn't even have to do all the steps that "sevenpioverthree" posted.

This may have worked but you really should read up on backing up your IMEI, it has saved many people and if you know how to use ADB, which you should learn how eventually as it is a powerful tool, it's actually really simple.
The fact is that what you did was restore to a time when your IMEI was in a good state but in the case that all is lost and you have to revert to stock using the Odin method, then having your IMEI backed up is a good thing and again it only takes a second to do and stays on your phone between ROMs
what to do now?
I'm having the same problem except my imei isn't gone. When i go to my about phone it says my phone number is 000-000-0016, my min is 0000000016. Service state: no service, mobile network type: UNKNOWN:0 I've flashed every ROM , kernel, and modem combo possible and nothing changes this?
There's a dial / programming code you can use to reactivate your phone (make sure you're on wife and stock rom)
Also try updating prl and profile

To update my Prl and profile i have to be on a stock ROM as well right? Also I'm on a sprint phone flashed to metro, how is it going to affect that? Besides the obvious of having to re root and flash.
I'm on Sprint my phone roams no matter what ROM I use .....its just Sprint service ...nothing to do with the ROMs..just something you have to deal with ...that's why they have unlimited roaming.....

Roaming isn't unlimited. They terminate your contract when it gets to a certain point

Technically, we don't have unlimited roaming. According to the Sprint Terms and Conditions (a lovely document, excellent prose):
The primary use of your Device must be for domestic purposes within the Sprint-owned network. Domestic means use in the 50 United States and U.S. Territories (except Guam). Sprint reserves the right, without notice, to deny, terminate, modify, disconnect or suspend service if off-network usage in a month exceeds: (1) voice: 800 min. or a majority of minutes; or (2) data: 300 megabytes or a majority of kilobytes. The display on your device may not always be on and will not indicate whether you will incur roaming charges. You can monitor usage online through My Account. Roaming is not available with single-band phones, or to customers who reside or whose primary use is outside an area covered by the Nationwide Sprint Network. Sprint may limit or terminate service if you move outside of the Sprint owned-network.

Now, they really won't terminate you for downloading that 301 MB file while roaming, but if you're racking up Gigs after Gigs on roaming, you might be kicked off.
Just a FYI.

I don't think you're totally understanding what it is that we're talking about. Yes the phone is "roaming" but theres no network connection. In other words the phone has no service at all (thats what my problem is) but if your phone is roaming a lot, even in spots where you should have good signal then I'd look into fixing that.
