I have had this phone (HTC 4G LTE) rooted previously but reverted it back with RUU. I decided that after using Jelly Bean for a bit I would re root this phone. Everything seems to be working great, when apps need superuser access I can give it. The problem is when I open the SuperSU application a message window pops up saying "The SU Binary needs to be updated", I click continue and the phone just resets. So I cant go in and deny access or grant, unless asked by a program..
So far I have tried going into recovery and clearing the cache and dalvik cache to no avail. I read online to install superuser and grant supersu access, which makes no sense to me but I tried it. I also tried downloading a new zip of it and installing it again in recovery.
I have read in a couple places that some other have had this problem but nobody came back with a solution..
I am by no means an expert just a person that likes to play with their toys in their spare time. Any help would be appreciated.
Oh not sure if this helps;
Software version: 3.15.651.16
Android version: 4.1.1
HTC Sence version: 4+
HBoot: 2.09
Head over to the EVO 4G LTE Q&A section (you're in the OG EVO Q&A section) and post your question there. I had the same problem running Viper's odexed JB stock rooted ROM, but since I've switched to MeanBean it hasn't been an issue. Also, if you look in the SuperSU app itself you should see that it is version 0.99, which is the latest version as I understand it.

Hi, I recently joined the world of root with my Evo 4G. I rooted via the latest unrevoked 3 and also unrevoked forever (s-off). After completing this process I switched my recovery file back to a PC36IMG file and applied the OTA update. It seemingly corrupted my Root until I updated to the new SuperUser zip (2.3.6.1) from Superuser 2.1. Note: I updated to the new Superuser app via sd card recovery flash after ota. All works wonderful.
The problem comes into play when I tried to do the same for my friends phone. The root went well as well as the forever (s-off). In error I updated his superuser app via the same method before applying the ota update, and now the update just fails everytime I try to install. I have tried several fixes via reading different post with similar issues but none have the exact problem. PLEASE HELP!

Well you made two very big rookie mistakes, you used the OTA update and you posted in the Dev section instead of Q&A. You shouldnt ever post anything in the dev section unless it is a ROM or a kernel or something like that, some people here seem to take it personal. Since it's your first post its ok though.
As far as the OTAs, Never flash them. Devs will post them so they can be dissected, and parts of them scavenged, but that is the only thing they are good for. Just wait for someone to post a rooted copy of it and flash that instead.
To fix his phone flash sprint lovers via fastboot/hboot and you should be all set. It contains everything you need.

+1 on this
THX FOR YOUR HELP! It's really good to know you have a community of people willing to help a new guy, I really appreciate it.
The sprint lovers rom looks good. I haven't flashed a rom before and would rather stick with the stock rom for my friends phone for now and just fix my mistake at this moment. Given that I updated my phone successfully I cant seem to understand exactly how I got off track with his. The only difference that I am aware of is the fact that I updated mine with superuser 2.1 installed and attempted to update his phone while 2.3.6.1 was installed.
If that difference is the culprit I've tried to flash back to superuser 2.1 and it seem impossible. What can I do to get back on track. thanks again in advance.
oh I will post in the apropriate area next time
I've looked for a few other threads about this but nothing seems to exactly fix this issue.
For some reason my phone keeps thinks that we are in Curitiba Brasil. I'm definitely in St. Louis MO right now. I've tried looking for a way to use the Rom Utility Manager to put my phone back to the way it was fresh out of the box but every search I do yields a rooted 2.2 version. (Granted I wouldn't mind rooting but all the versions I've read about seem to not perform as good as the stock)
Had my EVO rooted on 2.1 but when 2.2 came out I unrooted and restored to stock but now I can't find the RUU I used to unroot.
So here are my questions,
1) Has anyone else experienced this with stock EVO's?
2) where can I download the original RUU that came on the EVO 4g so I can then update OTA back to 2.2
I wouldn't mind eventually getting a fully functional 2.3 but I think that kind of goes without saying.

1) The time zone thing is random and it's an HTC or Sprint thing. It was just happening to my girl's Evo, and my roomate's Evo Shift. I was able to correct it by deleting the clock widget. Rebooting the phone, and then re adding the clock widget. Not sure if it'll be so simple for you, but thats what worked for me.
2) I'm a little confused about you're second request. Right now you are currently rooted or unrooted? on 2.1 or 2.2? If all you need is an unrooted factory ROM, this link right here has all of the RUU's and PC36IMG's for the Evo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060&highlight=hboot-0.97+ruu
Good luck. Let me know if you need more help.
Thanks for the assist.
Tried removing the clock widget and rebooting but I wasn't having any luck. It would work for a few minutes then go back to Brazilian time.
Ended up going the route of the most recent RUU. aside from having to re-establish all my favorite apps and settings all looks good. at this point I might look at some decent rooted roms to flash over
Well after a few hours of searching these forums I have learned allot. I am new to android I switched from a blackberry. Now as any eager new phone owner would do I jumped in and rooted my telus galaxy s2x the first day i had it without doing anywhere near enough research. I then had to leave home for work for a long time and decided that I should return my phone to bone stock and start fresh with all the things i had learned. I have scoured these forums and the internet looking for the stock telus rom and kernal. I found links to both but so far have been unable to download them. Dead links? i have odin and have read the guides but without the software i am stuck. So i decided to register and post. now i just hope that someone will take pitty on me and my undeniably mis guided android antics. my current phone info is:
Model number: SGH-T989D
Android version: 2.3.5
Baseband version: T989DTLKJ3
Kernel version: 2.6.35.11
Build number GINGERBREAD.TLKJ3
Now as far as i know I only rooted the phone trying to remove the telus junk and useing LBE privacy gaurd for permissions. No ROM or Kernel tweaking. I am currently running Avast security to but am haveing doubts as to its usefullness. Hope that someone can point me in the right direction and thanks for your time!
The thing with the security, is that its rather hard to have a virus on Linux due to the nature of the system.
Without Root access, there is no access to system files.
I do not run Avast, and have yet to run into issues. Just know what you are installing and what you are granting root access.
First of all, you don't need to go back to stock rom and re-root again if you are willing to use a custom rom. Because, rooting related files resides under specific to your /system and /data directory which are already replaced when you install a custom rom and do a factory reset.
Moroever, if you go back to stock by restoring an original nandroid backup you will most probably like to loose CWM recovery. You probably wouldn't want to double flash CWM if you are going to root your phone again.
What I can recommend you is,
1) After you backup your stuff, do a wipe data/factory reset from CWM. That will allow you start fresh
2) Then, based on what you want to do:
a) If you want to install a custom rom:
Look for the dev forum and choose whatever you want. I am currently using Raverx3x BLACKEDITION ICS and it is awesome.
b) If you want to stick with original rom with root access:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356739
Let me know if I couldn't answer your question.
Thanks
So i did find the stock rom and wiped all data and did a clockwork wipe as well rerooted the phone. So now i am bone stock. Again thank you for all the help. I am going to go with a custom ROM and from the reading i have done they all seem fairly good. Now I am just curious about custom ROM's and how well they work with lets say google play apps as well as some of the others you can get such as LBE. I dunno why but my phone when plugged into the comp wont start the auto play for usb storage and wont show up in the computer tab? weird. unless i run kies or start odin. then the auto play pops and i can see the usb. then windows tells me there is corrupt data on my external usb and if i scan it it closes all the usb stuff and seems to reset itself? i dunno i think that is a comp issue not so much phone. I guess my biggest issue is compatibilty with apps and custom ROM's and the like. Also if I flash a custom rom will that take care of the insane amount of telus and google crap. I dont really need most of what the phone came with but i am leary of deleting apps and system tools that are on the phone. I dunno totally new to android and in quite over my head. more reading i do more questions i have haha.
Idk if that was a phone app thing...
But for future, can you break up those huge paragraphs? Its hard to absorb all that information.
Anyways, I've never had an issue with computer connectivity... Might want to reboot the computer? That's a start at least

What modem are you using ? the original T989D's is KJ8 I think... ?
I was using it also but only up to RC6 until I switched to Darkside.. it has a t989 kernel but unfortunately required an ICS modem. After I flashed the Tmobile modem, I realized that I no longer have 4g. Its a price I am willing to pay for now.
EDIT: Turns out the modem is fine - only a bug in the ROM that does not display the 4G icon.

I currently have the basic stock ROM unlocked on Koodo so I'd prefer to have a stable wireless signal especially with the tethering hot spot... I think my phone has the KJ3 but you guys have KJ8 modem?
Model number: SGH-T989D
Android version: 2.3.5
Baseband version: T989DTLKJ3
Kernel version: 2.6.35.11
Build number GINGERBREAD.TLKJ3
(pure stock?)
How is the GPS in the Ravers ICS ROM? I basically need a functional GPS and mobile access point (tethering) to work amongst something stable while not being crippled.
I have flashed my old Captivate to the Cognition 4.1 ROM but am definitely a noob to my new SGS2 T989D which is quite a pleasant upgrade
So I am running the stock rom but have root access. the update pops up every 5 minutes to remind me to install it. I let it install and about 3 second in i get a yeild sign with an exclamation point in it. and the phone stops there. I waited for about 3 hours and nothing happened. Anybody know what I need to do here? I used Galaxy Nexus root toolkit v1.3 to root my phone. BTW i am with verizon
For as far as i now you cant update a rooted device. i sugest unrooting an try to update agian.

yea that's what I thought I was going to have to do. but wanted to see if there was an update package someone had made for rooted devices like some others had.
nvm i think im going to trade the phone
So no one has an answer on this?

Yes you can. You can't update a phone with CWM recovery though.

Correct a rooted phone can update but not with any custom recovery. You need to flash back to the factory stock recovery.

Your right, stupid answers, that's not an ota update you did. That was pulled from a phone which was updated and packaged into a flashable file to use on a rooted device. But a carrier ota update as your device was asking you to update will not work without stock recovery.

Isn't that exactly what i asked for second post in? Point is if you knew that, why didn't you say so? Look there's nothing wrong with being wrong every once in a while but be graceful about it. And if your going to give advice make sure you fully read the question and offer decent advice. You were saying there was no way to update it without unrooting and flashing back to stock. That was after I asked "yea that's what I thought I was going to have to do. but wanted to see if there was an update package someone had made for rooted devices like some others had." Is that not exactly what I asked for????

Well, you are right that there are a lot of partially right and partially wrong answers in this thread. But what are you saying is not exactly right either.
1) There is a difference between updating your existing build (like what you had asked to do in the first post) and flashing an entirely new build.
2) There is a difference between running a stock ROM (like what you were running before) and running a ROM that looks like it's stock, but is not (like what you are running now).
3) Root has NO impact whatsoever on your ability to install OTA updates on your stock ROM.
4) An OTA update will NOT install with a stock recovery UNLESS you are using the stock recovery version that came with the build you are using. (It seems like a lot of toolkits are flashing non-matching stock recoveries).
5) An OTA update file can EASILY be installed if you have CWM installed. See here.
6) Your phrase "unrooting and flashing back to stock" is silly, as flashing back to stock replaces your ROM, so why would you need to "unroot" your current ROM only to flash a stock ROM overtop? You don't root a device - you root an Android OS build. The phrase "root my device" does not make any sense.
