[Q] EVO 4G Incorrect time zones and other noob questions - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've looked for a few other threads about this but nothing seems to exactly fix this issue.
For some reason my phone keeps thinks that we are in Curitiba Brasil. I'm definitely in St. Louis MO right now. I've tried looking for a way to use the Rom Utility Manager to put my phone back to the way it was fresh out of the box but every search I do yields a rooted 2.2 version. (Granted I wouldn't mind rooting but all the versions I've read about seem to not perform as good as the stock)
Had my EVO rooted on 2.1 but when 2.2 came out I unrooted and restored to stock but now I can't find the RUU I used to unroot.
So here are my questions,
1) Has anyone else experienced this with stock EVO's?
2) where can I download the original RUU that came on the EVO 4g so I can then update OTA back to 2.2
I wouldn't mind eventually getting a fully functional 2.3 but I think that kind of goes without saying.

1) The time zone thing is random and it's an HTC or Sprint thing. It was just happening to my girl's Evo, and my roomate's Evo Shift. I was able to correct it by deleting the clock widget. Rebooting the phone, and then re adding the clock widget. Not sure if it'll be so simple for you, but thats what worked for me.
2) I'm a little confused about you're second request. Right now you are currently rooted or unrooted? on 2.1 or 2.2? If all you need is an unrooted factory ROM, this link right here has all of the RUU's and PC36IMG's for the Evo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060&highlight=hboot-0.97+ruu
Good luck. Let me know if you need more help.

Thanks for the assist.
Tried removing the clock widget and rebooting but I wasn't having any luck. It would work for a few minutes then go back to Brazilian time.
Ended up going the route of the most recent RUU. aside from having to re-establish all my favorite apps and settings all looks good. at this point I might look at some decent rooted roms to flash over

Just rooted but went from 2.2 to 2.1

I just did the root, nand, and radio
However I didn't know that I was going back to 2.1
What are the cons of 2.1 vs 2.2 and how long usually before there is an updated rooted 2.2?
Thanks
2.2 is out officially??? Where/how can I/we get it?
It just automatically downloaded when I got my phone yesterday. Now I'm wondering if I should go back and update and wait then re root later or just wait.
Are you sure you had 2.2? Where did you get your phone? What is your hardware version?
Positive I had it. I got it at walmart yesterday. As soon as I activated it downloaded like three updates.
I was using flash etc.

Flash lite?
Flash works with 2.1 also (at least on the evo)
I'm not really sure. I just know it said 2.2 and not 2.1.
also my hardware is 2.2
I wish I would've known I would've backed up before rooting. I didn't see any reason since the phone was new with nothing on it.
I just checked and it said no updates available.
So in order to go back to stock all I have to do is reflash with the stock rom. Just throw it on sd and flash as normal?

Just flash RUU from your computer.
Settings > About > Hardware, your Hardware Version is 2.2, NOT 002 or 003?
no its 002 sorry running on two hours of sleep here.
Ok i'm going to try to go back to stock then upgrade.
at least I know I can root it again. maybe faster next time too.
well I unrooted and got some prl updates but no firmware
here goes
Take the battery out of the for about 5 sec then put the battery back in and go in to recovery and try reflashing the rom that work for me
One of three things happened..
You are either have a nexus one and are in the wrong forum..
Are mistaken that you had 2.2 prior to root..
Or you're just trying to mess with everyone..
2.2 is not out in any way officially on any HTC phone, so you couldn't have had it. And no, you couldn't have been the only person in the country to have accidentally gotten it somehow.

[Q] Evo Rooted need help Please

I recently bought this phone from a guy on craigslist since I could not pick it up anywhere in my are or via sprint.com
Anyways when I picked up the phone and checked it out booted it up it loaded a screen that brought me here... XDA Developers EVO 4G. I asked the whats this and he said that the phone was rooted.... I have no idea what that means and what to do now with the new 2.2 froyo update that just came out. From what I have heard and gathered from here is that it is possible to brick my phone.
I need some serious help with this issue.
Here is what I see in the about phone/Software Information
Firmware Version
2.1-update1
Baseband Version
2.05.00.06.10
Kernel Version
2.6.29
jdubzXhero-baked #8
Build number
1.47.651.1 Backed Snack
Software Version 1.47.651.1
Browser Version
Webkit 3.1
PRI Version
1.34_003
PRL Version
60668
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I would like to update to the 2.2 and restore the original software.
Sorry
Just noticed this section of the forum is for development. Mods please move my topic to the appropriate area thanks.
So you want to lose root? Or you just want stock 2.2 Rooted?
I would like to go back to the stock set up. But wouldn't mind doing the 2.2 rooted but I am afraid I will brick my phone.
It's not very easy to brick your phone. This was the first phone I've ever rooted and these devs make it very easy. I would say if you're already rooted you should play around with some of the 2.2 roms on the development section. As long as you read the instructions correctly you should be fine. there's ways to restore your phone to a previous setup.
You can go back to unrooted by why? It is very simple to load a stock froyo rom that it rooted. Read some pages here. You will be able to use wifi tether for free and have 55 frames per second making the phone snappier. The hardest part is done for you aka the rooting process. BTW Sprint bricked more phones than people that tried to root there phone. Rooting does not cause brick. Bricking phones happens mostly when pulling the battery while the phone is updating or flashing a new rom. Good Luck hope you stick with the root. Because you will want it rooted later lol
Edit: Did I mention way better battery life than you will ever get with any of sprints/htc roms
you wont brick your phone, seems you are rooted and all set to do all you have to do is flash a custom or stock rom of your choice. PM me and ill help you out

^ what he said I've only heard of people bricking their phones when flashing radios and even that is very easy to do.
I mean flashing radios is easy
Many +1's to ifly4vamerica He took the time to work on this issue with me via PM's. I have to say I put my phone and faith in his hands, all is well and he delivered. There is no question that if I need some help I would ask ifly4vamerica again and recommend him to others.
Thanks again ifly4vamerica
No worries, glad to help. Have fun!

[Q] Rooted; Accept OTA 3.36.651.6?

I flashed the rooted 3.36.651.3 ROM when it came out. Now that .6 is out, and 2.2 has been rooted can I accept the .6 OTA? I am not sure what will happen.
I am fully rooted and unlocked. Will I retain root? I prefer not to wipe my phone if I dont have to. Thanks for helping a confused noob!
You're better off flashing the rooted version of .6 instead of doing the OTA. The OTA will unroot you unless you have Unrevoked Forever, but even then, why risk it? Even if you did do the OTA, you COULD unroot, but that would be more of a "oh, crap, I screwed up, at least I can fix it" way of doing things. I'm not super-familiar with what UF actually does, but definitely don't do anything without installing that and switching to S-OFF. Then you can try the .6 OTA. If it works, great. If not, you'll have to use the new root method (and wipe your phone anyway) to downgrade, then you'll HAVE to flash the rooted version or another custom ROM after that to get up to 2.2 again.
Thats what I figured too. I wasnt sure if the OTA would leave the su and various pieces in place or what... Is it safe to flash the .6 rooted over .3 rooted? Suggestions on which version? I prefer to stay as close to stock as I can. Thanks for the quick reply.
^^What he said^^ Here's one:

If you want stock, use the stock version. There's one odexed and one deodexed. Don't ask what the difference is, there's already answers to that around. Use the wiki link at the top of each forum to find all the ROMs.
As for flashing up to a new version without wiping, that's up to you. Within the same version (stock to stock) it should be okay, but if you're switching to a custom version, you have to wipe. I do anyway just to make sure there aren't fragments or anything lying around that will screw things up. I'm cautious like that.
netarchy recommends doing a full wipe first. Has anyone done an upgrade over .3 successfully? There also appear to people experiencing issues toward the 56th page.... that was my initial concern in why I was asking about the OTA.
cool, I will flash the one Jim M linked. I have been lurking it for a while. Thanks!
after i rooted last night, i tried to update to the ota, and keep root then, i could download the file, but it would not install, started to, but froze everytime, tried it a few times, and just said forget it.

I was just going to ask that. So I went to the wiki ansd got:
Create the page "Deodexed" on this wiki!
I did a search and came up with:
Search: Keyword(s): deodexed ; Forum: HTC Supersonic: EVO 4G and child forums Showing results 1 to 25 of 170
AH: http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7435282
deodexed = you can change things, such as themes, more easliy transported and packed smaller or changed.
odexed = basic stock
That's it in a nutshell from a nut.

Is that you with the bottle in your hand? I think I'll stop at Outback and grab a beer and burger on the way home.
Thanks for all the responses. I was able to use the update and flash right over .3 and now .6 still rooted! I used titanium & rom manager to backup everything in case I needed to roll back. Its been a day without any issues.

[Q] Froyo 2.2 On a USCelular based HTC Desire

You probably get these a lot and I'm sorry for reporting if you have. About 4 days I got an HTC Desire and I know it's only Running Android 2.1 (Eclaire). I've already rooted my phone and what not using the UNrevoked method, and right now it's in the process of loading the Cynagen mod (spell check?), It's been installed correctly, it just seems to be taking a while to load (off topic but is that normal), I Was wondering if there was any possible way to load Froyo onto via mod or and upcoming update. Any step in the right direction, Im new to Android but I do want to become affluent with them.
Alright I got it working, but now unfortunately I just don't think this mod is for me. Is there a way to revert back to the cell phones factory OS?
If you can find an official Cellular ROM you can flash it and revert to stock, unfortunately I don't think there is a leaked one.
I guess I could bring it into my provider and see if they can completely erase and reinstall the operating system, I found an Official Froyo Rom, but I'm having trouble installing it. I installed the radio correctly, but the Official Froyo itselfs keeps aborting.
Keeps saying its 'bad' idk maybe its a bad download but I got it off of XDA.
If you go with a modified software to your provider they may very well decide that your warranty is invalid now.
Can you give a link to the rom you say you've found.

This is thelike to the ROM to upgrade phone to Froyo 2.2, at this point i want to revert back to the to the stock OS, being supposebly Froyo 2.2 will be here for it in jan, but idk its been postponed 234 times now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
I cant help but feel like im not installing the radio correctly, its talking about using a rom manager but from what i've read ROM MAnager should do jut fine. Either that or Cyanogen isn't wanting it to go away.
Well i found a thread on there forums...
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/9270-stock-us-cellular-rom-request/ According the the posters its not COMPLETELY stock but its close enough. Hopefully Froyo will come soon (hopefully)
Right on the second one worked I might try to install that one on a later day.

[Q] Getting rid of Vodafone AU ROM to 'stock'?

Hi,
I've had my DHD for 6 months now, and I love it, but after seeing this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056329
I've finally decided I want to get rid of the Vodafone crap on my phone. It takes way longer to boot than it should, I have stupid apps on there, and I'm generally sick of seeing the Vodafone symbol every time I boot my phone, especially as I bought the phone from them and am not even contracted to them.
Is there an easy way to rid myself of this Vodafone branded ROM? I know next to nothing about rooting or anything, however.
After seeing the link above, I realised that I'll probably be waiting ages for Vodafone to send the update OTA, and I would really like some Gingerbread around about now. Hopefully the process will speed up my phone.
But, is there anyway I can do this without losing everything on my phone? My messages, apps, settings?
A lot of questions there - thanks in advance.
Hi, you will lose everything you don't backup.
Apps will need to be reinstalled, and settings will be lost.
If your firmware version is greater than 1.3x.xxx.x then you will need to downgrade to 1.32
Follow THIS thread to downgrade.
Once downgraded simply download & run the RUU~.exe file and it will take care of the rest.
How could I backup my apps (and settings) and restore them once updated?
My 'software version' is 1.32.178.5
Looking at the link you provided, it says...
System requirements:
Desire HD with build number 1.72 or higher
My DHD's build number is 1.32.xxx.x... Do I...not have to downgrade? Or what?
Also, since I'm running on an Australian network (Virgin), will I need to incorporate that somehow into the software I put onto the phone or something..?
You can root your phone and use clockwork to remove data/cache to go back to factory settings
as for the virgin thing, just make sure your APNs are correct and you should be fine
So I could root it and use Clockwork and my phone would basically be like a standard Desire HD that I bought new, unbranded in a shop?
yeah but you will also lose all your contacts and messages etc
i think you can use titaniumbackup to save those kind of things .. but done quote me because ive never done this, ive only rooted and cleared then flashed a new rom on
actually look up a stock RUU guide
EDIT: Just Root your phone and flash a custom rom imo
I did it .. never going back
Hmm, okay.
What about if I wanted to put something on my phone like the link I posted up top, the 2.3 'release'?
well click the ROOTED link in my sig
and do all the steps with the exception of the flashing of the MIUI.zip ... just replace it with the custom rom of your choice and bobs your uncle
i advice to back up your apps and anything else you want to keep
