I just did the root, nand, and radio
However I didn't know that I was going back to 2.1
What are the cons of 2.1 vs 2.2 and how long usually before there is an updated rooted 2.2?
Thanks
2.2 is out officially??? Where/how can I/we get it?
It just automatically downloaded when I got my phone yesterday. Now I'm wondering if I should go back and update and wait then re root later or just wait.
Are you sure you had 2.2? Where did you get your phone? What is your hardware version?
Positive I had it. I got it at walmart yesterday. As soon as I activated it downloaded like three updates.
I was using flash etc.

Flash lite?
Flash works with 2.1 also (at least on the evo)
I'm not really sure. I just know it said 2.2 and not 2.1.
also my hardware is 2.2
I wish I would've known I would've backed up before rooting. I didn't see any reason since the phone was new with nothing on it.
I just checked and it said no updates available.
So in order to go back to stock all I have to do is reflash with the stock rom. Just throw it on sd and flash as normal?

Just flash RUU from your computer.
Settings > About > Hardware, your Hardware Version is 2.2, NOT 002 or 003?
no its 002 sorry running on two hours of sleep here.
Ok i'm going to try to go back to stock then upgrade.
at least I know I can root it again. maybe faster next time too.
well I unrooted and got some prl updates but no firmware
here goes
Take the battery out of the for about 5 sec then put the battery back in and go in to recovery and try reflashing the rom that work for me
One of three things happened..
You are either have a nexus one and are in the wrong forum..
Are mistaken that you had 2.2 prior to root..
Or you're just trying to mess with everyone..
2.2 is not out in any way officially on any HTC phone, so you couldn't have had it. And no, you couldn't have been the only person in the country to have accidentally gotten it somehow.

Ok, I'm probably going to get flamed for this but...
I've been keeping up with the thread joeykrim started about how to gain root with the new v1.47.651.1 update. Then I saw the newest thread where they've been able to do it. Yet I've seen a bunch of v1.47.651.1 rooted downloads in the dev subthread, and a week ago or so, I had downloaded the rooted deodexed 1.47 rom, with the new radio, with the plan to flash it over. I was hesitant because I knew people were having problems with the new update. So for now I have Fresh's rom (which btw is awesome).
So I've finally put 2 and 2 together, and this is what I've discovered... Is the new update ITSELF, just the actual FILE, able to be rooted? aka, the update was downloaded to a computer, hacked, and then able to be flashed to a phone with no problems? And that would mean the only problems are for people who applied the OTA update or bought a new evo that already had the 1.47 update, correct?
sorry to be an idiot!
Correct .
Well, wait.lol the Rom you downloaded is basically an stock Rom with update, an entire image that will replace what you have. It is just rooted already.
But you are correct that it is only people who took the ota update or bought a new phone and the salesperson did the upgrade who must use the new method to root.
At least you posted in the right forum so you better not get flamed lol

ok, thanks!
yeah I just have the stock rooted 1.47 rom. I think I'll wait until some dev's get their hands on it and see what they release, before i flash it.
I am running my own variation of the deodex 1.47 that calkuin (sorry for the spelling if its wrong.) So its good to go. But I think there are a few that already have it incorporated such as damage control.
i think i also have that caulkin 1.47 version. do you like it? what kind of things do you like about it over the 1.32.651.6 version?
I just used it as a starting point for my Rom. I just wanted the update so i can actually logon to my WiFi router. The image you have is the stock image, so it still has all the Sprint apps on it and stuff.
I have a rooted HTC evo I still haven't gotten the update do I have to unroot to be able to download 2.2(froyo). I just want the update what do I have to do?
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A9AI5RM9
Thats the RUU, apply this update and you'll be completely stock 2.2
what do you mean apply I've downloaded this before I can't find the file to download and when I try to open it it says it doesn't have a program to open.
If you are rooted Most Roms will not allow an OTA to come through.
you have options the option listed above will unroot you and install 2.2.
the other option is to go to the dev forum and download a 2.2 custom rom or the rooted 2.2 stock rom. flash those and you are good to go.
I will remind that currently there is no way to root 2.2 so if you choose to go through the RUU and go to stock rom that way you will NOT be able to root at this time. It could also be WEEKS before a root method is found. I dont know why anyone would want to or would suggest doing this unless you plan to take it in to sprint for repair.
How do I apply the first file?

No you do not need to unroot. If you accept that ota update it will take away your root because the rom it puts in isn't rooted. I happened to download and try out froyo 2.2 like 3 days ago to see how it functions. It works very well however the update killed my hotspot completely. I ended up restoring back from Froyo 2.2. I will give a link that will take you to the downloads to do it where the rom comes rooted, and the radio and wimax drivers are there as well. Here it is.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740520 One thing to remember is this is not the absolute final build that is pushed out on the OTA update that they have done today. So my guess is very very soon if not already there will be a posted and rooted version of the final build. I am unsure and I am almost positive nothing is every final, but I don't know if you will be able to re-root your evo if you just accept the update from Sprint. If you no longer want a rooted phone and all you care about is getting the update, then you can or will have gotten the request today from sprint as I did or you can look for the update manually in system updates, from settings at the home page. Hope that helps and take care.

I strongly suggest you do not just get stock 2.2 because you have no idea if you will ever root again. Unless your taking it into sprint it makes no sense. I really do not want to attempt to get you that file because its a massive mistake. The download does work though i already tried it that much i can say. See if someone else will actually tell you what you need to do because i'm not sure i can bring myself to do it sorry. I am slightly unsure how you ended up rooting your phone if you are having trouble with a download that has an executable file as in you click on it and it runs If you however need help downloading or flashing or whatever the other stuff that i linked that i will definately try to assist you with. If you flash a stock rom you can and will get the message to update the system and you can manually look for it too. The roms have that disabled so people can't due to ignorance, apply the update then say, "Oh crap I am not rooted how do I fix it?", which we will see a lot of today.
Engadget states that Verizon is going to push the official 2.2 Froyo update tomorrow for all HTC incredible users.
IF this is true I have a few questions. I'm currently rooted and running Sky Raider 3.0 RC2. I did a nand backup of my old original 2.1 Stock sense rom. If i revert back to that, can I just check for updates and apply the new stock 2.2 Froyo rom that is pushed from verizon?
Thanks,
ej_424
It is true. Unlike previous rumors, VZW employees were told today (this afternoon) and it shows on their bulletin screens now.
That and sometime between 1pm and 2:30pm they updated the support page.
So who's gonna jump in and who's gonna wait?
Please answer my question on how to go about updating. I'll jump in but want to knwo what process i have to take. Is there a chance that I wont be able to re-root if i go with the OTA update?
why go through the trouble of unrooting and going back to stock just to receive an update "officially" thats already been rooted and simplified here in 2 threads?

Honestly.. It's pre-rooted, and is almost positively the exact same as the official OTA.. why bother?

Honestly there is so much information out there. Do what I did when I first got my Incredible. Do a search, and read, read, read. Mind you when you're done your head is going to be spinning. But that is the best way to get all the information you need.
To answer your question.
it was said along time ago that accepting the 2.2 OTA may cause you to not be able to re-root.
now, unrevoked forever takes S-OFF and with this you can accept the 2.2 OTA and still keep root, it was permanent, but with the new release of S-ON there is absolutely no reason not to use S-OFF, then un-root, if you want the "official" 2.2.
I thought that SkyRaider 2.5.2 and 3.0 were built off of the previous leak of FroYo 2.2...am I wrong? I love SkyRaider Vanilla, so I don't get giving that up for an "official" OTA? Maybe it is for some, but I don't see what else you'd really get that you don't have yet that was built into the 2.2 ROM's...
Mods will probably move this to Q and A,
But, you have to provide more info as what radio you are on, hboot.., etc. There are several threads started providing info as to how to prepare yourself...
I mean, the leak OTA has been ripped apart and placed all of this forum. The only thing you can get from verizon will be the satisfaction of a cool Blockbuster app and more vzw crapware, but hey if its what you want

Skyraider pre2.0 was based off an evo port, yes. 2.0 and onward is based off the leak, hence the necessity of the radio upgrade.
Gotcha. That's what I thought, as when I installed SkyRaider 2.2, I remember getting an email saying "thanks for registering your Nexus One" or something like that... Thank you for confirming, much appreciated!
Your recovery image must be stock as well. There are several threads that provide the needed file to return the DInc back to 100% stock/pre-root (just make sure S-OFF is applied first).
Mandatory OTA?
I read the pdf files from Verizon's website on the expected 2.2 OTA, and it says it is MANDATORY. That the only options it gives you are install and DELAY install. That it will keep bugging you every 30 minutes til you do !
I have used Unrevoked3, and Unrevoked Forever and love the phone as it is now (particularly the wifi tether). I want to avoid the OTA but do I HAVE to accept it? If I do, I hope I can reload the version I got with Unrevoked3.
(I assume that Verizon will, in their new version make you PAY to wifi tether)
Any info on this?
Thanks

I'll be pissed if thats the case. gotta do everything all over again. But if we're already @ 2.2 shouldn't it recognize that and not force the OTA to even appear on our phones?
I'm still pretty new to this so sorry if I sound like a complete outsider lol
For those of us who've rooted, forever'd, upgraded radio, and installed some leaked version of Froyo already -- if/when we get prompted to update the phone should we accept or deny it?
With the OTA update will be a radio update as well. And if they attempt to install over the same version won't that be the same as manually attempting to update it twice which equals brick?
Or will the update detect an upgraded radio already and skip that step?

IIRC, you will only be prompted if you have sock recovery installed. As for the OTA, it includes updates to the radio and HBOOT. The update doesn't check to see if you already have an upgraded radio because, in theory, no consumer should have it yet.

If this is the case, there will be a whole lot of bricks out there, right? I thought I read that if you flash a radio twice you're bricked. Maybe not with S_Off.

Not a 100% sure but I think its only if you flash a radio.diff twice you get brick.
Never the less just don't have the updated radio with old builds and stock recovery and all should be fine.

That applied because the prior unrEVOked hack was simply a diff ... it patched. So if you apply the patch to the patch, THEN you brick. Flashing a wholesale radio (while higher on the danger scale) is not the same.
You probably get these a lot and I'm sorry for reporting if you have. About 4 days I got an HTC Desire and I know it's only Running Android 2.1 (Eclaire). I've already rooted my phone and what not using the UNrevoked method, and right now it's in the process of loading the Cynagen mod (spell check?), It's been installed correctly, it just seems to be taking a while to load (off topic but is that normal), I Was wondering if there was any possible way to load Froyo onto via mod or and upcoming update. Any step in the right direction, Im new to Android but I do want to become affluent with them.
Alright I got it working, but now unfortunately I just don't think this mod is for me. Is there a way to revert back to the cell phones factory OS?
If you can find an official Cellular ROM you can flash it and revert to stock, unfortunately I don't think there is a leaked one.
I guess I could bring it into my provider and see if they can completely erase and reinstall the operating system, I found an Official Froyo Rom, but I'm having trouble installing it. I installed the radio correctly, but the Official Froyo itselfs keeps aborting.
Keeps saying its 'bad' idk maybe its a bad download but I got it off of XDA.
If you go with a modified software to your provider they may very well decide that your warranty is invalid now.
Can you give a link to the rom you say you've found.

This is thelike to the ROM to upgrade phone to Froyo 2.2, at this point i want to revert back to the to the stock OS, being supposebly Froyo 2.2 will be here for it in jan, but idk its been postponed 234 times now.

I cant help but feel like im not installing the radio correctly, its talking about using a rom manager but from what i've read ROM MAnager should do jut fine. Either that or Cyanogen isn't wanting it to go away.
Well i found a thread on there forums...
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/9270-stock-us-cellular-rom-request/ According the the posters its not COMPLETELY stock but its close enough. Hopefully Froyo will come soon (hopefully)
Right on the second one worked I might try to install that one on a later day.
Looking to put my wifes Inc 2 back to stock. We just got the phone from verizon via replacement for bricking hers during the new software update. As soon as I got it I had it rooted. Now, the camera will not work at all. So before I go back to Verizon I really need to get it back to stock. So I checked the Inc 2 Dev forum and didnt see anything but the ChinaCom update. I need the VZW WWE stock 2.3.4 So if anyone could point in the right direction, thatd be fantastic. Ive also tried flashing 4 separate ROMs and 3rd party camera apps, it just FC's. So Im going to take it back AGAIN and see what theyll do for me.
Thanks!
Try here for the RUU

Or just try different Tom's no need to go to Verizon if you can fix it yourself

Scroll to the near end of the thread, I believe this is the latest version he posted in early November:
RUU_Vivo_W_Gingerbread_S_VERIZON_WWE_4.08.605.3_Radio_1.09.01.0722_NV_VZW1.92_release_212888_signed. exe
There really should be more of an ability to reset to factory, literally.
It's nice being able to wipe all user data and stuff but the custom rom still remains.
Sometimes people need to return a phone or need to go back to stock to install an OTA update ya know!
But custom roms are generally superior so whatever.

I Agree with this. There's been plenty of times where I have needed to sell or bring the phone back to the store, but without it being TRULY stock, they wont do anything. Plus alot of folks don't want to buy a rooted or S-Off phone becaues it voids the warranty.
There needs to be a way to completely revert to stock. Like it was out of the box. As easily as possible.
