I can't believe this hasn't been stickied but this is how to apply the APN Settings to most ROM's that are Android 4.0+. Most ROM's have this information already baked in, some do not. I created this little tutorial not only for people that are new to this, but also for veterans who need a quick reference for the actual settings. Can we please get this Stickied?
APN Settings for MMS
1. Goto Settings
2. Under Wireless & Networks select "More..."
3. Select "Mobile networks"
4. Select "Access Point Names"
5. Press the Setting soft key
6. Select "New APN"
7. Select "Name" and enter "Verizon" and select "OK"
8. Select "APN" and enter "internet" and select "OK"
9. Select "MMSC" and enter "http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms" and select "OK"
10 . Press the setting softkey
11. Select "Save"
12. In the APN screen select your new "Verizon" APN
13. Finished
Yeah I'm surprised this hasn't been stickied yet. I can't tell you how many times I've seen this asked for.
+1 Mods, please make this a sticky! I'm always searching through threads to find this.
+ 2 cause it had already been + 1'd

Something else you may add to this, the method of updating towers when you can't use a keyboard. That might be handy also.

okay guys, I have tried doing this and it kicks me out of APN back to the settings page. Every time. I have switched to phablet mode to stock and everything in between to try and be able to enter these settings. Is there anyway possible to do this without getting into the APN?

If you are looking for rom specific help you need to ask in that thread. I'm assuming you are trying pacman. I believe it has been addressed there already. But be sure you are hitting menu and save and not just backing out.

I believe someone mentioned a way to fix that. Something to do with clearing and rebooting maybe. Still this isn't the right thread for trouble shooting that rom. We don't want to clutter this thread with rom specific issues. Recheck that thread.
I'm on my way to work right now but it you don't find it ask in that thread and I will see if I can help later.

just thought id point this out incase nobody else has noticed it, and if it has maybe somebody knows why. if u go to the dialer and type in ##3282#, then enter your msl u can make it to the edit option and then choose advanced. in the advanced menu is one option and its DDTM. the same ddtm thats in the settings/call settings menu. ive noticed that it always checked off backwards or wrong but the really odd part is that everytime u press one of the options its instant los...every time. im not a dev but i would think someone woould agree this has to be contributing to some sort of issue or msybe even los..i mean it is the no interupt data option while phone/radio is on.. just wanted to hear what some of u guys thought about it.

Its not los, it resets the radio whenever you choose an option.

but the only thing that bothers me about your answer is that if you do it in menu/settings/call settings/ u can click back and forth off/on till the cows come home and it doesnt trip the radio. its the same thing as doing it in ##3282# which makes the radio go bonkers just in a different menu...i didnt mean ur wrong by my statement, it just doesnt meet logic from where im standing. thanks for your reply though.

Hello xda sorry for the n00b question and I'm not sure if there was a thread about this but I tried looking but no luck, I browse xda all the time but I just registered now to hopefully find some help.
So I just used GNex TOOLKIT V5.3 and did numbers 1,2,3 then skipped to #7 and then did #8 to get yakju.
Now everything was successful and I got my apps back and my phone could still call and text. I was using my wifi the whole time pretty much so I didn't notice my data or internet on my phone was lost till later.
Did I just screw my self over? I'm on the GSM version Galaxy nexus now on 4.0.2 if that is any help.
I would start by checking your apn settings...

Ok. Are you using the AT&T version of the SGS3? What settings are you doing manually and they are not sticking? Do you mean it does not change at all, switches automatically after certain amount of time, or resets after reboot or airplane mode? There is not an app that I know of that does this directly. Most are more or less shortcuts to your "mobile networks" in settings and the Test menu found under USSD "*#*#4636#*#*". I have not found one that works the way you mention for myself (regardless of which phone I use) unless it is baked into the ROM.
Copied from some post here n backed up on my drop box. This should work on TW ROMs.
-------------
From the phone dialer enter: *#197328640#
Umts -> Debug Screen -> Phone Control -> Network Lock -> RAT_FREE_SUPPORITNG ON <- once you choose this option it will say "Now RAT Free Supporting" - this will allow you to change bands freely (no need to pull the SIM card) until your next reboot.
You can save *#197328640# in your contacts. I wasn't able to call the contact directly but from the dialer you can dial *#1 and it will pop up as a suggestion - you press that and it launches automatically. You can then go to Umts -> Debug Screen -> Phone Control -> Network Control <- this leads you to the screen you'd find in my original method with *#2263#
From here you can freely swap to whichever band you prefer and it will connect without a reboot required!
Note: After disabling RAT restrictions you can hit the menu button and choose back, twice. You'll then be at the menu list that includes "Network Control" aka *#2263# which is a little faster.

Make sure the phone on the other end you are speaking to is also HDVoice capable and on the correct network (H/4G/3G) during the conversation. You can find info here in this very forum on the codes to check if WB-AMR is enabled. On mine it is *#0011# From there hit menu key then select "back". Then hit menu key and select "key input". Enter the number 1. Wait a second. Then choose WB-AMR STATUS and see if it is on. I'm running custom ROM so those steps might be a little different than what you'll need to do to check

Since this was my first ever Samsung device, I had a hard time figuring out how to enable USB Debugging mode. Google and Youtube saved the day. Here is how:
From home, press "Apps" menu, press "Settings", press "General" tab, press "About Device", press "Build number" seven consecutive times and you should get messages about having "Developer Mode" being turned on. That's it!
Hit back and you should now see a new "Developer options" selection in the menu. Press "Developer options" and just check mark "USB debugging" if you want to enable it.
I think this is an Android thing not specific to Samsung. Started with Jelly Bean I think
Since you just figured that out you probably don't know about the Easter egg for jellybean, Google that, its almost the same process to open it and get your little surprise.

I know about that one. I just switched to Samsung from being with HTC since the beginning. They've always had the developer options in the settings menu.
Here's another thing in the realm of usb debugging. If you need to use adb make sure the screens on so you can accept the adb connection ( drive me crazy why it wouldn't connect)

The hiding is a android 4.2+ thing google did because (normal *cough Apple) users would get confused as to what the developer options do. And would muff something up....
By the way , AssassinsLament thanks for the original code and work you did regarding TWRP best recovery on android ??

It's really no big deal at all, but I think it would be neat to turn it on and off whenever you need it. Just in case someone else feels like playing in your settings for whatever reason. Not that they would get very far in the first place. It would just make a neat little feature imo.

Thank you so much. I cannot thank you enough. I thought I had gone crazy. Between my wife and I we have every Galaxy phone made to date two Google TV's and 3 Asus Tablets among many other android devices as I am an app developer. This is the longest I've owned a phone without root (4 days) Also my Asus TF tablet has been stuck without a recovery for weeks and I couldn't find developer mode. I cannot believe I didn't get the memo on this one. just too busy with work and school. Thanks a million times over

There is a way to turn developer options off. At the top right corner of the screen when in the dev op screen youll see that the "on" button is green. Simply slide that button to the left and dev ops will be turned off.
