Note 3 USB Debugging Mode - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Since this was my first ever Samsung device, I had a hard time figuring out how to enable USB Debugging mode. Google and Youtube saved the day. Here is how:
From home, press "Apps" menu, press "Settings", press "General" tab, press "About Device", press "Build number" seven consecutive times and you should get messages about having "Developer Mode" being turned on. That's it!
Hit back and you should now see a new "Developer options" selection in the menu. Press "Developer options" and just check mark "USB debugging" if you want to enable it.

I think this is an Android thing not specific to Samsung. Started with Jelly Bean I think

Since you just figured that out you probably don't know about the Easter egg for jellybean, Google that, its almost the same process to open it and get your little surprise.

I know about that one. I just switched to Samsung from being with HTC since the beginning. They've always had the developer options in the settings menu.

Here's another thing in the realm of usb debugging. If you need to use adb make sure the screens on so you can accept the adb connection ( drive me crazy why it wouldn't connect)

The hiding is a android 4.2+ thing google did because (normal *cough Apple) users would get confused as to what the developer options do. And would muff something up....
By the way , AssassinsLament thanks for the original code and work you did regarding TWRP best recovery on android ??

Any way to remove the Developer option or will it always stay there once you reveal it? Sorry, first time JB user here. Coming from the G2x. We never officially got the good stuff.

It's really no big deal at all, but I think it would be neat to turn it on and off whenever you need it. Just in case someone else feels like playing in your settings for whatever reason. Not that they would get very far in the first place. It would just make a neat little feature imo.

wow no wonder I looked for the options everywhere for like 15minutes... thanks for this

Thank you so much. I cannot thank you enough. I thought I had gone crazy. Between my wife and I we have every Galaxy phone made to date two Google TV's and 3 Asus Tablets among many other android devices as I am an app developer. This is the longest I've owned a phone without root (4 days) Also my Asus TF tablet has been stuck without a recovery for weeks and I couldn't find developer mode. I cannot believe I didn't get the memo on this one. just too busy with work and school. Thanks a million times over

Thank you, could not figure out how to get to this menu.

Thanx a million! Was looking for this for quite some time now.

You can also do *#0808# and select mtp+adb. It's the exact same thing, it takes less time, and you don't have an obvious developer options menu on your phone should you take it in for service.

There is a way to turn developer options off. At the top right corner of the screen when in the dev op screen youll see that the "on" button is green. Simply slide that button to the left and dev ops will be turned off.

[REF] How to enable dev options in 4.2

1. Go to the settings menu, and scroll down to "About phone." Click on it.
2. Scroll down to the bottom again, where you see "Build number."
3. Tap it seven times. After the third tap, you'll see a dialog that says you're four taps away from being a developer.

Interesting that they decided to make dev settings hidden like an easter egg.
probably due to people messing with it and wondering why apps start crashing
Any other hidden settings ?
Very strange, but good to know. Thanks!

Stock Screen stays on

My wife's stock NOte II screen Time setting is 10 seconds.
It comes on when notifications go off, and never goes off, unless we manually turn it off.
Any thoughts?
This continues to be a problem.
In fact, it happens at night while on the charger, and the screen staying on prevents the phone from achieving a full charge.
Nobody has any thoughts?
Maybe the face rwgonition sensor that keeps the phone awake when you're looking at it is faulty.

Try turning off smart stay and see it fixes the issue.

Thanks for the thoughts.
Smart stay is off, so that likely is not hte issue.
There are 2 problems as I see it: First, the fact that it always turns on when anything happens, such as mail receipt, text msg, notifications. Then it never goes off.
If all else fails there is a mod in the themes and apps section to disable screen wake lock....so if you get any notifications it will not wake your screen I cant give u the link im out

Upon checking it out, it works with the stock messaging app. We use Google Voice, so probably won't work.
I have turned off motion, and I think it has improved. Although I think it turns on when fully charged (notification of full charge I suppose), and stays on.
The fact that it stays on is the real problem. I don't understand why the 15 second setting doesn't let it turn off.
Hmmmm....I just thought of something else: I may haave Screeble installed. I'll have to check on that and see if there are strange settings or something.
I know what it is.... go into developer options and look for an option that says "screen on while pluged in" turn it off
good find...

Theres an option in there to keep screen awake while charging and that may have been turned on? If not turn off try turning off the dev options just to make sure thats not the problem.

Howto Hide Developer Options?

Hi,
I needed to use ADB to root my wife phone. Once done, I'll like to Hide the Developer Options as she will never need that option. It's safer that way, as I suppose I can make "Developer Options" visible again using the 7 taps trick.
Thanks for any help.

Woman. What did I tell you about pushing buttons you didn't understand.
Factory reset and don't unlock it again. You'd probably want to reset anyway between users.

So then it appears that the 7 taps trick can only Un-hide "Developer Options" but cannot hide it again. Too bad.
I wonder why this "7 taps" could not be designed as a kind of toggle.
You can deactivate them if that's enough for you (and if you haven't already seen the option).
Just go to the developer settings and in the top right corner you should have an on-off switch.
Clear data on the settings app

confirmed, it works.
nexus 4, 4.2.2, no root.
Long tap on Settings in the app list, drag it into "App info" at the top.
Clear data ... poof ... Developer options is hidden again.

If you already root and don't want to losing your settings just install root explorer..open it and navigate to data/data/com.android.settings/shared_prefs/development.xml..edit and change value "true" to "false"..save and exit..then delete development.xml.bak..after that go to settings>apps>all>Settings..open it then force stop..then open Settings app to check it..voila! developer options disappeared!

I know that tapping the Build Number seven times should make the 'hidden' Developer Options appear. But as you can see, the Developer Options is NOT HIDDEN, it's incomplete.
Aside from that, this model has no Build Number as you can see on the screenshot posted in the above thread. Instead, it has Model Number, which, if tapped seven times, doesn't do anything.
Also, another problem, Notifications in Kitkat seem to make the screen wake up every time there is a notification. I fiddled with Notification and Messaging settings and there seems to be no way to turn this feature off. Any tips?
