Wow!

wtf? im pretty these phones don't have a barometric pressure sensor on it, yet there is a test for a "barometer sensor." my only assumption would be that it uses the gps' elevation to calculate the barometric pressure maybe?

It does. And it works. But I can't believe they would give us something like a barometer but not give us a way for FM radio. Craziness.

i've heard that, but I seem to remember reading that while connected to wifi, this phone can do data/voice? and what about the LTE?

Phone/Data do work together while on wifi, and will also work together when connected to LTE.

I confirm that it works. Phone + wifi, phone + LTE, phone + 3G DOES NOT WORK.
It all has to do with the chips inside the phone. This phone just doesn't have a FM receiver processor.

My Evo LTE was capable of simultaneous voice and data, even on 3g. Also, I'm almost certain the Galaxy S3 is also capable.

The reason why voice/data works on the EvoLTE and the Sprint Variant of the Galaxy SIII is because they have SVDO chips which allowed that to happen.
With the Note II, it appears as Samsung wanted to have little to no hardware variation amongst the different handsets, hence the no SVDO chip.

No. The issue was the GSM in this phone. The data paths are different on this phone. The EVO LTE and S3 have 1X on one path then EVDO and LTE on another path. So when talking on the phone which uses 1X your phone has the ability to use EVDO or LTE on the other path (at a reduced power). Nothing about the network, nothing about chips, nothing about antennas, as the way more to the puzzle than that.
No take the Note II, it has 1X and EVDO on one path and GSM/LTE on another path. So you can see the issue right here. No 1X and EVDO at the same time. But it does have the ability to do 1X and LTE at the same time.
It's all due to the GSM capabilities of this phone that skewed the design from the S3 for SVDO and SVLTE. I knew this going in buying the phone and didn't bother me as I rarely used it on the EVO LTE. And getting out of the piece of junk radio on the EVO LTE was a major improvement for me.

So are our phones LTE capable???

I was told by a sprint employee they were, then here that they're not. Then I see this in a thread...
reddragon72 said:
Same issue in Houston two days ago. Wife's Evo 4G had no issues connecting right next to me so I knew it wasn't a tower issue, but my phone or the plan. Called Sprint and talked to three people. The last person I got was in the 4G department. They found that the system is going through upgrades right now for LTE, but he would not elaberate due to privacy concerns... or something like that. He said that my phone had been removed from the Wimax channel to the LTE channel. Since that happened the towers were ignoring my request for an IP. He said the phone is either setup for Wimax or LTE but not for both. 0_o So I asked him how to setup the phone for LTE and he said "there is no need yet since LTE is not open to the public, but only in the testing phase" So I asked... exactly "So can I call back and have my phone switched from Wimax to LTE when LTE is opened up to the public in Houston?" He said "Yes"?!?!?!?!
What does that mean??? He knows all about my phone and what it can do so why did he say that?
Also he mentioned that this seems to be happening to all Epic 4G Touch phones since they are listed in the Sprint system as LTE capable. So that is why people in Q1/Q2 LTE area's are having the issue.
Call sprint and get the 4G people on the phone to reprop your phone from LTE channel back to Wimax.

No they are not. Do not always listen to a Sprint employee 90% of them are flat out stupid. We will not have LTE support. There IS however a SPH-L710 that passed WiFi certs a few weeks back. My guess is that it's the SGS2 but with LTE support and WiMax removed.
Asking a Sprint call center employee to explain or elaborate on a technical detail of their network is like asking a McDonalds counter person to explain how they raised their cows.
They'll give you their 4th grade education mixed with overheard and misunderstood watercooler rumor as fact. "Could you turn off your phone, and pull out the battery? Now restart it! See its fixed, just like our network! Thanks for calling Sprint! Is there anything I can do for you?"***
Oh, btw, if for some reason our phones were capable, it would have been a selling point since release. So, sadly, no.
And if you google it, there are some people talking about tear-downs, and the visible chips, and how those chips are not LTE capable....
(*** btw, not a Sprint hater. Or even a Sprint employee hater. just a call-center, script-reading, poor misinformed souls hater. please don't attempt to answer my question if you don't actually know the answer just to boost your solution resolution percentages)

When it's worded that way, the guy probably thought he was asking if he can switch to an LTE capable phone. If current Wimax phones only needed a firmware update to work on LTE, Sprint would be doing some good PR work so everyone knew it.
There's a reason the G-Nex is advertised as "Sprints first LTE phone"

I will look for the Doc about this, but I did read some investor fact sheets for sprint transfer to LTE. The big selling point for big investors to put money into sprints LTE was a wider spectrum that would include the bands needed for wimax phones to receive 4g in a sprint LTE only area.
They use a similar system in France, China and other countries where the gov stepped in and funded a super fast wireless broadband system. Are phones would still not be able to roam on LTE but on Sprints network we would still benefit from LTE.

Would that benefit not come from users going to LTE and getting off (for the most part) of the 3G however. If Sprint is in fact doing things somewhat like Verizon is most 3G data is being offloaded (iirc) to the LTE band which frees up 3G.

Pretty generic question. Lots of posts on battery life. Some of the mods tend to improve it but like all smart phones its never enough. I cannot speak for LTE speeds but its faster than my BB was on the same network.

Look at the threads for Verizon battery life. I'm sure it'll be similar. The 3G speeds will be slow like the rest of the Sprint network, and the LTE network hasn't been launched yet...
Most everybody has said its a little faster than the epic touch and there are a couple towers that are on.....someone said they were getting 15Mb down and 10 Mb up ... Don't remember where but its going to be really hit and miss what tower may be upgraded and on

LTE isn't that robust. You have to stand IN the intersection for reception
Battery life is about even, we don't have cm9 or AOKP yet (which is what I mainly ran on E4GT), but on stock, they are pretty even.
As far a speeds go, I have no LTE so can't quote speeds on that, but 3G is slightly better on my gNex. The highest I ever pulled on E4GT was 2.17 mbps down, I pulled this last night on my gNex.

I know this may seem stupid but I tried every radio I could and I couldn't get data coz I was roaming on at&t from T-Mobile.

If all that checks out and you do have T-Mobile signal then it will have to be a call to CS.

To clarify: All current LTE phones allow you to talk (CDMA) and use DATA (WIFI or LTE) on Verizon as they are two separate radios. I don't see why this would be different on Sprint or ATT. The point brought up about the EVO LTE is probably about it simultaneously talking on surfing on 3G (CDMA radio) just like the Thunderbolt on Verizon. The Thunderbolt on VZ can do this because it has two cdma radios and is currently the only VZ phone to do it. This doesn't seem to be the case with the EVO LTE.
In this article (take this with a grain of salt as a "commenter" isn't the best source to use. I'll do some searching on it later when i have time)
"A commenter on the G&E blog suggests that simultaneous voice and 3G data is also working on the LG Optimus LTE, apparently because the new Qualcomm chipset "separates the 1xRTT radio from EVDO"."

Like was said earlier ANY device on LTE should be capable of doing it. The reason it did not work before is because CDMA used the same radio for both data and voice and therefore could not be used simultaneously. LTE adds an LTE radio.
The rezound can make calls and be on 3g at the same time

Like was said earlier ANY device on LTE should be capable of doing it. The reason it did not work before is because CDMA used the same radio for both data and voice and therefore could not be used simultaneously. LTE adds an LTE radio.

Yes but we were talking about svdo, which is not lte and not all devices can do it.

To clarify: All current LTE phones allow you to talk (CDMA) and use DATA (WIFI or LTE) on Verizon as they are two separate radios. I don't see why this would be different on Sprint or ATT.

Well AT&T is a GSM carrier, and can handle simultaneous voice/data over 3G. So even without an LTE connection you can do it.
All CDMA LTE phones can do "Data & Voice" while on a phone call ONLY IF your on LTE..
GSM Carriers can do "Data & voice" on 2G/3G/4G while on a phone call.. it don't matter if your on 4g or not.. long as you have data you can do it while ur on a call..
CDMA needs LTE to do data since its a separate signal
i had a EVO 4G you could only do voice and data on 4G.. not on 2G/3G While on CDMA
GoodandEvo.net tested this and found you can do voice and data simultaneously on 3G with the Evo 4G LTE..

Read carefully. This thread will enlighten you.
So this means the gnex can't do 3g talk/surf?

It doesn't matter. The Galaxy Nexus can't do it.

Pissed T-Mobile phone user! question on the gs2

Had the gs3. Piece of junk in my opinion. now have the one s but it loses cell connection from time to time, a known issue. Seriously considering getting the gs2. How is cell reception, camera quality, build, any issues with loss of data connection?

Whoa gs3 to one s? Lol.
S2 IMO is the most stable T-Mobile ics supported phone.
-cell reception depends on your area+ modem
-rear camera is pretty good at 8 mp though it sucks in low light
-front camera is very good 2mp (.2+ mp over the s3) lol
-build quality is not as good as the HTC one s (plastic all around and a faux silver band around the housing- on the white s2) though it looks sexy
-again data depends on area, modem or even the rom (aosp based rom isn't as fast as tw roms) you need to experiment w certain modems in your area. I get 6-7mbps on a tw rom at my house, but I only get 1.5 mbps in aosp roms. Where as at my workplace I get 4-5 mbps regardless of what roms I'm running (latest ics modem)
Only issues certain devices have=
1. Screen issue, blobs and lines though this isn't severe on newer production units
2. Over heating
3. Mic issues on almost all ics roms
4. Lack of notification LED - but you can use BLN (back light notification)
But If you can find a galaxy nexus GSM unlocked I would go for the g nex anytime. Yes you may have slower data as it doesn't support 42+ hspa, or a 8mp camera sensor, but you will have almost the same screen size as the s3, notification LED and a better build quality.
Bln?

Look up BLN app on the market you can use the soft key lights as notification led. Though you need a compatible kernel (and of course root to flash the kernel)

Yup sgs3 to one s. It blows the gs3 away on many things. Yes the gs3 has a huge screen, and yes it has expandable storage with a removable battery, but its a huge pos. Reception was horrendous. K know I said the one s I have loses data but at least it got 4g

To be honest every phone isnt for every individual. I have the SI SII and my friend has the SIII We all get the same reception inside my house so maybe you should have checked the connection strength. Did you happen to check cell reception in the same areas? Also did you do speed test? some times older phones will try and hold onto the 4g (hspa+) signal when really you should be going down to get a faster speed. Anyway onto the SII i love this phone and have no problems with reception however i live in a strong Tmobile market (austin texas).
I lose radio completely. And my wife's lumia is perfect. Could it be a sim card issue

Woah woah wait wait. Eb70 has a t989?!??!?! Are we seeing any simply honey roms for this phone then? I loved that rom on my t959 sadly it was updated so I eventually went back to cm7. Sorry to go off topic.

I think the reception on this phone sucks too. But then again, I changed carriers so it could be just bad reception and my house being in some kind of dead zone. We'll see next phone I guess.
The s3 you got must have been in a bad batch or something. The One S has been having signal issues and I think its due to these new micro Sims we are using. If you get an s2 make sure you get the tmo sum that's made in india(has better reception for some reason) I use an s2 myself and if you root it with the right rom(cyangen mod 9) and have the right kernel, you're phones as good, if not better, then anything tmo offers right now

Hmm...I have an S2, and my buddy has an S3. Neither of us have issues. Both phones are great. Wouldn't leave Samsung, minus tablets. Wonder why you're having so much trouble.
Reception on this phone is better than any other tmobile phone ive used thus far.

Never lose service and usually see in the twenties as far as DL speeds go with my SGS 2. My buddy has a one S and complains it drops in some buildings .. but normally is perfect..

I'd trade you my gs2 for your gs3.. haha its a great phone and I never lose signal

Nvm, figured out the signal problem. Antenna on the one s is at the lower left hand side. Grip it down there in a low signal area, say good bye to reception. Knowing his the signal has been solid. Looks like I'm sticking with the one s!
