Had the gs3. Piece of junk in my opinion. now have the one s but it loses cell connection from time to time, a known issue. Seriously considering getting the gs2. How is cell reception, camera quality, build, any issues with loss of data connection?

Whoa gs3 to one s? Lol.
S2 IMO is the most stable T-Mobile ics supported phone.
-cell reception depends on your area+ modem
-rear camera is pretty good at 8 mp though it sucks in low light
-front camera is very good 2mp (.2+ mp over the s3) lol
-build quality is not as good as the HTC one s (plastic all around and a faux silver band around the housing- on the white s2) though it looks sexy
-again data depends on area, modem or even the rom (aosp based rom isn't as fast as tw roms) you need to experiment w certain modems in your area. I get 6-7mbps on a tw rom at my house, but I only get 1.5 mbps in aosp roms. Where as at my workplace I get 4-5 mbps regardless of what roms I'm running (latest ics modem)
Only issues certain devices have=
1. Screen issue, blobs and lines though this isn't severe on newer production units
2. Over heating
3. Mic issues on almost all ics roms
4. Lack of notification LED - but you can use BLN (back light notification)
But If you can find a galaxy nexus GSM unlocked I would go for the g nex anytime. Yes you may have slower data as it doesn't support 42+ hspa, or a 8mp camera sensor, but you will have almost the same screen size as the s3, notification LED and a better build quality.
Bln?

Look up BLN app on the market you can use the soft key lights as notification led. Though you need a compatible kernel (and of course root to flash the kernel)

Yup sgs3 to one s. It blows the gs3 away on many things. Yes the gs3 has a huge screen, and yes it has expandable storage with a removable battery, but its a huge pos. Reception was horrendous. K know I said the one s I have loses data but at least it got 4g

To be honest every phone isnt for every individual. I have the SI SII and my friend has the SIII We all get the same reception inside my house so maybe you should have checked the connection strength. Did you happen to check cell reception in the same areas? Also did you do speed test? some times older phones will try and hold onto the 4g (hspa+) signal when really you should be going down to get a faster speed. Anyway onto the SII i love this phone and have no problems with reception however i live in a strong Tmobile market (austin texas).
I lose radio completely. And my wife's lumia is perfect. Could it be a sim card issue

I think the reception on this phone sucks too. But then again, I changed carriers so it could be just bad reception and my house being in some kind of dead zone. We'll see next phone I guess.
The s3 you got must have been in a bad batch or something. The One S has been having signal issues and I think its due to these new micro Sims we are using. If you get an s2 make sure you get the tmo sum that's made in india(has better reception for some reason) I use an s2 myself and if you root it with the right rom(cyangen mod 9) and have the right kernel, you're phones as good, if not better, then anything tmo offers right now

Nvm, figured out the signal problem. Antenna on the one s is at the lower left hand side. Grip it down there in a low signal area, say good bye to reception. Knowing his the signal has been solid. Looks like I'm sticking with the one s!

Samsungs radios are the worst ...
Yeah umm the Photon is on 4g considering the 4G icon is turned on and looks to be actually working. Might want to go back and turn on your 4g and then do a speed test? But yeah it's a known factor that the Samsung Radios suck for CDMA......
Well it wasn't in 4G, this area doesn't have it and I checked the 4G notification it said disconnected...
@Saint, yea I heard a little about samsungs bad radios but never thought anything of it. Well I decided to check it out. Wow the difference is crazy! Makes me want a Photon for the better signal alone!

I will admit the Photons radio is FAR superior but this phone IMO beats it in every other aspect ... except battery life also ... Photon has WAY better battery
It's not that the radio is awful per-se. The antenna design is about average while the Photon is above average.
With a decent signal (and assuming the tower is one of the upgraded ones) I get 2Mbps downloads, so the radio is "capable" of much higher speeds but if the antenna is not able to pull in a stronger signal, that can affect your speeds.
Hmm ok. Interesting comments. Well this is a little upsetting lol. I LOVE this phone, I just wish my signal speeds were better! Sfhub?! 2mps down?? That's insane on Sprint from my experience!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Yeah, unfortunately in the area I'm mostly at, the backhaul is not upgraded yet. My ping times are still very good (for wireless) at 77ms, but I'm at 250-400kbps on weekdays and a more usable 400-750 on weekends. The areas I travel to are the ones that got upgraded.
In general when testing e4gt against a LG Optimus S, if the signal is 0-2 bars on the e4gt, the Optimus will have faster speeds. If I move to a location where the e4gt displays 3-4 bars, then the speed is about the same. The Optimus usually has about 5dbm better signal than e4gt.
It isn't a horrible situation antenna design, but there is room for improvement.
on sprint 3g in midland texas im pulling 1500-2100kbs down... hardly ever turn 4g on cause its only giving me 3500kbs down
I've never had an issue with Sprint 3G.
I'm in West Virginia where I wouldn't expect to get great network coverage, and I get between 1500-1800 DL and 500-700 UL speeds whenever I check.

Pretty generic question. Lots of posts on battery life. Some of the mods tend to improve it but like all smart phones its never enough. I cannot speak for LTE speeds but its faster than my BB was on the same network.

Look at the threads for Verizon battery life. I'm sure it'll be similar. The 3G speeds will be slow like the rest of the Sprint network, and the LTE network hasn't been launched yet...
Most everybody has said its a little faster than the epic touch and there are a couple towers that are on.....someone said they were getting 15Mb down and 10 Mb up ... Don't remember where but its going to be really hit and miss what tower may be upgraded and on

LTE isn't that robust. You have to stand IN the intersection for reception
Battery life is about even, we don't have cm9 or AOKP yet (which is what I mainly ran on E4GT), but on stock, they are pretty even.
As far a speeds go, I have no LTE so can't quote speeds on that, but 3G is slightly better on my gNex. The highest I ever pulled on E4GT was 2.17 mbps down, I pulled this last night on my gNex.

Why can't we just have a compare, contrast, and opinions. The reason this type of thread happens over and over is because of all the trolling and flaming back and forth which leads to lock. Be better if it was just one nice clean thread with good input and actual comparisons.
I went with the Evo because of the kickstand, screen, and camera button. I'd be able to get more feedback once I get the phone.
By the way, I had a thread like this Monday and it was shut down because people were bickering. Wish people could lose their "e"-go and just converse normally.
I'm leaning towards the Evo as well, for better camera w/button, kickstand, nicer design, and superior screen. I'm just afraid it'll have quality control issues down the road whereas I have no such fear with the SIII.

While i want to believe htc has gotten better, i was one of the unfortunates that got an original EVO with the screen separation issue. The faceplate/screen was detaching from the phone and it took weeks for Sprint to accept it was an issue, it was separating right in front of one of their techs at a corporate store and they said repeatedly "sorry, dont see it listed as an issue", even though 2 seconds of google searching at that point showed it was widespread. After weeks of stress and a plethora of phone calls they finally accepted reality and said they would swap my phone....with no promise it would be a fixed "new batch/fixed" model. It was truly unbelievable the way it was handled, on HTC's and Sprint's part.
So while i loved the evo, once I FINALLY got a decent one, the heartache of the experience makes me say....Samsung all the way

A good example post of reasons of why you choose one over another by "ExtraCrispy"
SGS3
1. TW over Sense - can someone tell me exactly what is so great about Sense? The chief virtue of Sense 4 everyone seems to be raving about is how much less obtrusive it is (removing the corousel, quick settings etc). It has zero new features, except for the coverflow style task list. The new TouchWiz has a ton of features, some of them may end being gimmicks, but may be useful. And Sense is a heavy skin - even in the E4GLTE, you can sometimes see the dreaded 'reloading Sense' when you press home.
2. Better buttons - I don't need a dedicated task list button when long press on home does the job. I do mind my screen space being taken by the menu bar for tons of legacy apps and any app which is marked compatible with GB. GS3 made the right decision with a menu button
3. Root - S-OFF on new HTC phones is very hard, gone are the days of simple rooting like with the Evo 4G. HTC's dev unlock is crap. Galaxy phones are much simpler to root. And cutom roms/kernels are a big part of Android for me.
4. Hardware differences are basically irrelevant. In the US both will have the S4, the screens are close enough and both have microSD support. There are endless debates about plastic vs aluminum, build quality, looks and so on which are all down to subjective opinion.
5. Audio/Video - The Evo will probably do better in low light due to the better aperture (f/2.0 vs 2.6) but the picture quality is probably same on both (GS3 has a newer sensor, Evo uses th eone from the GS2), they both have the same software features (Evp uses a separate ISP, but GS3 does the same stuff in software), and video recording is definitely better on the GS3 (full bitrate HD video). GS3 also has the better DAC, though most likely US versions won't have the Wolfson.
6. GS3 comes with 50GB vs 25GB Dropbox.
I say skip both and get galaxy nexus for now if not wait for galaxy note im getting galaxy nexus first for the lte and then galaxy note buying both retail price

Wow, I am kinda thinking the same. Having 2 lines (one with a Nexus series, one with a Galaxy series) is a lot of fun. Having the ET4G and S3 would be nice but I just don't know. If a phone comes along that is truly mind blowing I would buy it off contract. I still don't know what the hell I am going to do with my June 1 upgrade. I am going to be researching like crazy the next few weeks though
Im leaning more towards the EVO at the moment as well.
Just would like your thoughts and opinions... I'm on the fence between EVO 4G LTE or Galaxy S3.

I didnt find the camera on the evo better. The phone its self just dosent feel as smooth. The battery was horrible and its just ugly lol. The s3 is just a more complete phone imo. And im not alone. The only reason I switch was because of the network I went with tmobile and got the galaxy s3, the evo felt like the right device ,camera is better on the evo IMO, and specs says it as well, the only thing I hated the much in the eco is the multitasking is useless and will closed apps really soon, if you like accessories and to root I would go with the the gs3,so far this phone has a great community ,even got cm10 already running and accessories will keep coming and coming since is one device in all networks, the evo had better battery life in my testing but it could be cause it closed a lot app in the background
This is why I like tmobile

I have both devices. I see no reason at all using evo lte over sgs3.
I can't really think of a single good thing about evo lte which is better than sgs3. Maybe that it's slightly thinner...
I had the HTC EVO LTE for a week and returned it for the S3, I have not had a single regret since. My biggest complaint on the HTC was multitasking, I would stream music and open one app, this would usually go OK, on the second app the music would stop. ERRR.
It's incorrect to say it's due to the S3 2gb or ram either my previous phone, the hugely inferior VM Optimus could handle this, sure it started to lag but at least the music didn't just stop.
This was my main issue, but in almost all other aspects the s3 has been better in my opinion.
I just sold my Evo LTE today on eBay. It was a good device but the S3 is superior overall. The Evo is also easily prone to bending due to its design but it never happened to mine since I always took care of it. Both devices have great cameras. The screen on both is excellent but it's really just personal preference. HTC also takes a while releasing its source which makes it harder for developers to work their magic. Samsung is developer friendly

I would say go try them both out and see which one you like more. You're posting this in a galaxy s3 forum, of course the majority will say gs3. If you go post it in the one x forum, then you'll probably get the majority saying one x.
It depends on what you need out of the phone and which feels nicer. The one x has a brighter screen and a little nicer camera. The gs3 has a nicer battery(in my experience, though it varies by phone) and it is removable, along with an SD card slot and 2 gb of ram. One has touchwiz and one has sense 4.
Good luck on your choice, they're both amazing phones, I'm sure you'll be happy with either of them.

Multitasking on the evo is painful, worse than my old evo 4g. Gs3 is way smoother and has a better community.
I made the switch. The build quality is better on the Evo and I would argue screen is more natural but not as vibrant. Everything else is vastly superior on S3.

thanks guys. I actually posed the question on both EVO and S3 forum. Looks like i'm leaning towards s3!
Came from an og evo and an evo 3d to the s3 I just wanted to try something else, however the evo lte screen looks unbelievable

another dead horse!
Tried the EVO LTE for 3 days and went back to the ET4g, then to the GS3. Screen size was the "seller" for me. Definite difference. The HTC seemed out of proportion too long and narrow. Maybe I'm just picky... JMO.
I'd definitely actually handle a couple of live phones to see which you like better, good luck.

+1 evo was definitely too narrow, main reason why I switched to the s3

camera app is better yes, but the camera on the s3 is slightly better. I've done my own comparison with my brothers phone and i saw a side by side comparision online. Siii looked a bit better. Video was much better.

+1 I use the macro mode a lot and it was far better on the S3. Photos from the S3 cam always come out clear and with great detail.

S3 all the way!!!! HTC support as in software updates and what not suck. I agree on the build on the lte evo is better (or it seems) but i love my S3. Had the lte evo for 3 days returned it and never looked back!
Has anyone noticed how bad the Wifi is with G3? Note note 3 was much better.

Wifi on mine is perfect. I just did a speedtest to post a screenshot. I like my G3 however im a huge fan of samsung. I bought this phone cause my note 3 went for a ride in the washer. I was wearing baggy cargo shorts and forgot it was in the side pocket. Still sold it for 150 even though it wouldn't turn on. The Amazon buyer was aware of what happened. I have no complaints with my G3. Still getting the Note 4 though.

I'm getting a much stronger signal at home compared to my N5. Speed even at the edges of my coverage are noticeably faster. Biggest improvement is in the 5 ghz range.
That's not what I meant. I am more talking about how far I am away from the signal. I could get further away with the note 3 than with the g3 from my wifi router.

I got the same problem at work wifi sucks s5 was way better. At home I have no problems cause im closer to signal but in job cuts off and on and wifi calling logs off 4g lte works better than my s5 but wifi definately got a ranfe problem.I went to store check out other lg g3 make sure I dont have a defective unit but its the same I hope a new modem can fix this.
Any news on a new radio. Reception sucks on my g3
Modem will not fix this. Phone suffers from death grip. Nothing can be done.
AWESOME G3
Wow. I thought the radio was good on this phone. Much better than my nexus 5 was. Maybe you have a bum phone?
Edit:
Never mind, you've checked. Still, I guess I don't know what I'm missing then as this phone has been the best I've had so far.
My data speeds on Wi-Fi are just as good as my note 3.

I was at home the other night and did a speed test and it was about half as slow as my Nexus 5 usually was on WiFi. That may have been due to the number of devices connected at that time.
How is everyone's LTE speeds compared to past phones? I feel like this is a lot slower than my Nexus 5. I was getting ~25mbps at home with my Nexus 5, but was barely pushing ~6 last time I tested. Maybe I was having a bad day with T-Mobile.

For me, speed is about the same (full internet speed) as my N5 but the Wifi range is better, especially on the 5 GHZ band. Problem is the range sucks for 5 GHZ on any device so I usually leave it on 2.4. On LTE, I regularly get 30-40 Mbps.

My LTE has more availability on this phone than my S4. I usually have 10-15 down, I've seen 60+ in a few areas on this phone that I've never seen on the S4.
