fix the broken button, wipe data/factory reset from the recovery, then go from there.

yea, i thought of that too, but am very unfamiliar with it. fixing the volume key should be fairly inexpensive thankfully.
amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B004XJCWW8/asamf-21
would this work?
// repairing the volume button is not possible, the sendet it already to a few handy repair guys, all sayed its to expensive to repair it, >200€
Do it yourself. If you can't figure out how to repair a volume rocker you don't have any place trying to use a jig.

Further to my last thread about a possible bricked DHD, I've come to realise that my volume down key seems to be stuck. Now every time I boot I go into HBOOT and cant toggle between the options once I'm in there. So to boot up I have to use ADB but because the volume down is stuck in, this automatically boots in SAFE MODE. I can install fresh Roms, restore/backup etc in recovery (again via ADB), but ultimately, when I boot up, it goes into SAFE. This is highly annoying as I cant download or use any 3rd party apps. Is there any way to disable this? Even using ADB somehow? If any of you clever dudescan help, it'll be worth numerous cyber pints!! Thanks in hope, Greg

Hi, try this to get fastboot
You can hold back and power to get fastboot, from there you can hit power to get bootloader, vol up to cycle round to recovery, power to select.

Thanks, but I can get into fastboot no problem, due to my volume key being jammed down. Every time I power up I go into fastboot. The problem I have is booting from fastboot/recovery/off results in safe mode due to the key being stuck. What I need to be able to do is disable safe mode using command prompt somehow.

Ok, sorry misundestood post.Thats annoying. I have rooted many a phone and normally a reboot should take it out of safe mode. And removing battery for a few minutes does a soft reset which clears a number of items. I am not aware of an adb shell command to remove from SM sorry..
I do recall some time ago seeing a youtube video that showed how to fix the stuck key (from memory I think it may have originated from HTC).
If this does't work then may be time to seek harwdare repairer or replacement if under warranty :-(

Sorry for late response bit of a family emergency. Its hard to say, some say you should put it back others so don't worry. Personally I think rectifying a stuck button will not be due to which rom you have on your phone.

Just wondering have you heard back from HTC re phone fix, or have you got it replaced yet?
Hi,
I have the same problem as you just described (also a rooted dhd, with broken volume key, stuck in safe mode).
Did HTC fix it for you? Or has anybody a different solution, because I have dropped my phone a couple of times and are wondering if it still is within the warranty because of that.
Thanx

If you have stuck key then it will no doubt be a repair job. If you have dropped your phone then it is highly unlikely it will covered under STD phone warranty
So you could be stuck paying for the repair
Hii all,
as in the title, need your advice before sending to repair, is it the whole screen or maybe some hardware attached to it??
thanks in advance.
Have you tried to remove the battery and put it back in ?
yes many times,, even changed many roms with the same result.
I'm almost sure its not software issue, its hardware but is it the whole screen, or the digitizer or any other specific part?
thank you for responding back, appreciated.

Boot into hboot by pressing Power + Vol down and in the menu select hard reset. Make sure you don't have any PD98IMG files on your SD card before that since hboot will automatically try to flash it before you can do anything else. Once you've done that post if the problem is still there.
EDIT: If the screen is still unresponsive even after factory reset then the issue is most likely hardware at which point it would be best to take it in for repair.
digitizer is dead or half dead, change it and everything will work again
(of course, if it is not software related)

Thats NOT a hard reset! Pull the battery, and insert it again. Now do your "hard reset". As in, holding volume up+home+power key together until you see the Samsung logo. Do a data wipe and restart. If that doesnt work, search for flashable firmware packages in the Development section. If that doesn't work either, replace your phone.
Hey guys,
Thank you both for your replies.

Stating what happened: He just suddenly had a white screen, unable to do anything with the phone. Rebooting, pulling the battery etc. didn't do anything.
Your second option didn't work either unfortunatly.

Sorry about that, I just read in about this phone, since it's not mine, and I already forgot about the second part.
Unfortunately, neither of this works. Every boot method gets him a white screen. Since he rooted his phone about a week ago, looks like he's going to need a new one.

try flashing the ROM using Odin from the PC
Might Odin be the same as Samsung Kies in dutch? Or is this an external program?
Assuming it's this program: http://odin-win.sourceforge.net/
Now how does this work? I've been flashing my phone for quite a while now, but I'm not familiar with this program. Can I just download a ROM (stock) from the developers part here?

Hello, since I had my sprint lg optimus g, I played a lot with it, because we don't have sprint here in Venezuela, so I had to set the phone to be used here. It seems that i play too much whit it and bring it to a hard brick, the phone does nothing, not even recognized by the pc. So I wonder if this can be arranged in any way? If the screen of this model can be put to the international model with no problems? If the logic board of the international version can work with the rest of the hardware of this version? In advance thank you very much.

No i try it, but it doesn't do nothing
I was using my phone like I usually do, and then it suddenly froze. So I held down the power button, forcing it to restart. Ever since, the screen only shows "Google" for a while, then becomes blank; no booting animation. It would restart itself occasionally.
I tried booting into recovery mode by holding Power+VolDown, and selecting "recovery mode". For the first few tries, it would go back to the Google screen, the turn blank. After giving it a break and trying again, I finally got to the "no command" screen, and I wiped the cache partition. Sadly, I'm still having the same problem.
Is this a bootloop? How can I fix this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This happened to me and Google sent a replacement phone. However the replacement phone is a refurbished phone that suffers from ghost touches Now trying to get a replacement for the replacement.

The bootloader allows the phone to be unlocked to flash custom ROMs on it, without it unlocked you'll brick your phone. Read up about rooting your phone first so you can get the idea of what goes into it before attempting it. Once you get the general idea of unlocking the phone and flashing things on it, it becomes relatively easy. There's even a nexus root toolkit on this forum that you can download on your computer for free as well as "how-to's" for doing it

No is not necessary, but in order to re flash the factory image to fix the problem the bootloader must be unlocked. You never have to root your device but having a unlocked bootloader is essential to flashing anything on your device other wise like I said, you'll brick your phone. You can even lock it back to full stock once you've re flashed the image.
Edit: there's another way of flashing the factory image but it requires some searching. You might not be able to do it the way I'm explaining to you Because you would have to give it permission to be unlocked in the developers option while the phone is booted up and operative

When u first bought your phone and it takes you through the set up window, when it asked you to put in your email, that right there backs up all your apps that you previously had in the phone so when you go through the setup again, it's going to ask you if you want to start as a new phone or recover your previous apps. You won't be able to recover all of your data but you should be able to recover all of your apps.
