Title says it all really, I just want my Note2 back to how it was when I got it; stock ROM and no root so I can upgrade easily. I don't feel the need for any custom ROMs just yet and would just like a 'clean' phone back. Question is what is the easiest way of going about doing this?
Just flash ur stock rom using odin, thats all, u will be Samsung official again

Will that stop me doing OTA updates in future though?
As long as you have a custom recovery, the counter will say 1 and the staus is modified. You have to flah a stock rom, root it and use Triangle Away to reset the counter and status. After that reflash the stock rom and do a data factory reset after the phone booted, skip all settings to save time (as you are going to reset it anyway). Save important files first. After the reset your statuss will say Normal, you will receive OTA`s or update through Kies. Or flash a updated rom with Odin if you want.

You will not increase counter if you only check.Btw, why you need to flash stock recovery again when you ready on stock ?
how do i check the counter? download mode right? i just wanna put everything back to stock and wait for updates that samsung put out. we dont have much dev support yet so not much roms to choose from unlike the 7100 model. i think i got everything to stock now just not sure about my counter. also when i click on software update nothing happens it wont stop searching. did i do something wrong with my phone. its not giving me an answer like no updates available or ur phone is up to date.

Did you exactly do step by step I post #2 if so you won't have this issue. Device status must be Offical that reason why you can't get update.
i did the cf root unroot method with the triangle app and supersu. i downloaded stock rom and installed using odin.
Did you do a factory reset, since Odining back stock? If not try it.
Hi guys,
I am returning the unit to samsung for some issues, its under warranty and i have rooted the phone,
What all things are to be done before returning the phone? I mean how do i unroot again?

There are tutorials in this forum. Another thing to check is your flash count, if it's above zero then you'll need to reset it. I recently returned my note 2 for a warranty claim. Whilst I was rooted I used triangle away to reset my flash counter, then unrooted through SuperSU. Then just did a factory reset.
I have heard that sometimes triangle away can brick ur phone? What are the chances?
Can u confirm the below steps?
1. Use triangle away to reset the flash counter.
2. In super su, settings, use full unroot option.
3. Reset phone from settings menu.
Is that correct?

Once you have reset flash counter with triangle away, then just back up your data and fully wipe device to be on the safe side. Then just flash a stock rom using ODIN. And youre good to go.
Thanks,
But, i have just rooted & not installed any custom rom, so in this case also do i need to flash the stock ROM? Or i can just reset the flash counter using triangle away & return for warranty?
Using triangle away you can just reset counter, it doesn't unroot (triangle itself requires root )
You can simply unroot from supersu setting, or most clean way is to Reflash stock rom.
Remember before reseting flash counter, make sure you have stock kernel and recover, otherwise it will raise again.

Hello,
Right now I am having MIUI 3.7.5 with BaseBand i747UCDLK3 with KT747 Kernel. I am moving back to stock to sell my phone to the buyer. It has TWRP Installed and binary counters triggered. So, what I need to do reset the binary counters and reflash the stock?
I have downloaded the Samsung-Updates.com-SGH-I747_ATT_1_20121116120521_7p9l4qgqoh from this link
How to flash to stock with ODIN and reset the counter???
Any warnings and cautions?
Just an observation, why not let the buyer decide if they would like the phone already rooted with the custom rom or if they would want it stock, reverting is easy and you'll need triangle away from the play store to reset the counter, which you can do even on the custom rom, and the easiest way to refresh to stock is with mskip's galaxy s3 toolkit it walks you through the steps and has Odin built into it so it launches it for you with clear instructions how to proceed

I recently re-flashed my phone because I was unable to get it back to stock un-rooted so I could get the latest 4.4 update. Someone suggested using Triangle Away to reset my flash counter in order to show my phone was 'not modified'. I purchased Triangle Away installed etc, but it had a stern warning that resetting my flash counter could "hard brick" my phone.
I attempted to use the temporary disable of SU for OTA within Triangle Away to unroot my phone and apply the update, unfortunately the update didn't work and now I can not undo put back SU as enabled. My phone is unrooted without the ability to undo that feature in Triangle Away.
Question, is there a way to fix this with Triangle Away? Am I missing something or do I have to reflash my phone again?
Why would an app like Triangle Away have a feature within it's app that could cause this to happen and not a way to back out of it.
I hope someone can help me with this.:crying:

Maybe I should ask the question more simply:
How do I re-ROOT my phone without flashing? Is that possible?

I do have a custom recovery, TWRP. I think I have it running again and rooted, what I did was re-install Busybox and rebooted into recovery, then rebooted back into the System and then it seemed to work fine. Not sure if I will brave Triangle Away again, but thank you for responding and offering a good suggestion.:good:

Did you reset your flash counter? As far as I know this was put in place by the developer to warn people...Of knowing what they are doing before hand. This warning is mainly in place to try and make people read to see if their phone model is supported.
To the best of my knowledge, no one has hard bricked their phone on any of the I747(m) models using this app. This feature does work as I have used it multiple times.
And what update our ROM are you installing? You said 4.4... I used ODIN to restore back to complete stock 4.1.1 (not rooted, stock recovery included) and the OTA update to stock 4.1.2 went without a hitch. I used CF Auto Root (via ODIN) to root and then installed a custom recovery.

I was attempting to do the OTA to go from 4.0.4 ICS to 4.1.x Jellybean. BTW, I was able to re-set my count to 0! Thank you for the reassurance!

I would highly recommend flashing the pure stock 4.1.1 rom (including stock recovery) and then do the OTA. The 4.1.2 stock rom might be available through KIES or through other sites by now, but I can't say for certain. Since you are already using ODIN, then CF auto root will be a breeze for you to root 4.1.2.
No worries. I was a little nervous too about Triangle Away at first but searching did not net anything saying that reseting the flash counter had hard bricked someone's phone. That is what pushed me to use it.

I blew out Kies on my main machine because it doesn't work well, I had to re-set all my USB ports and re-install the Samsung USB drivers so no Kies for me. But where do I find a stock 4.1.1 rom from? My stock version is 4.0.4 (the original ROM when the S3 was released), I wonder if I can just use a custom 4.1.1 ROM instead or do you think it would work if I unroot/stock to 4.0.4 then OTA to 4.1.2?

To ensure best results use ODIN to flash the stock ROM to 4.1.1. You should return the phone stock as if you just purchased from the store new. Then do the OTA. You can use ODIN after that to root with CF Auto root.

just got another galaxy s4 from tmobile and im trying to downgrade back to mdl instead of mk2 i already tried to odin but it keeps falling now im stuck at the keis upgrade screen
The only way you can downgrade is to flash a ROM in custom recovery.. Why would you want to downgrade?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
well i was told that if i didnt i would have to deal with all the knox crap but as i stated right now im stuck at a screen that says firmware upgrade encountered an issue with a phone icon with a yellow triangle in the middle with a computer on the other end is there anyway to boot from this screen
Try to Odin 4.3.. There's no way to downgrade it without tripping the warranty counter. And fyi you can just flash a custom 4.3 ROM, no Knox
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Here's the deal with ur new phone..
1.- as stated before u cant downgrade, Samsung or Google Made the 4.3 so U cant Downgrade even thru Odin. (well u can but you won't get Rid of Knox counter and U will need to "void" your warranty by flashing a different version of android)
2.- You can still Root your phone without triggering Ur Knox Counter which since u are already have since you're on 4.3 and u cant get rid of it.. Just use CT-Root, debloat the phone and install whatever Root apps u enjoy (this is my current state since I too Had to exchange my phone)
3.- If you do decide to root your phone, only way to trigger the Knox counter is by installing a Custom recovery and Flashing anything thru it.
at this point it all depends on what u want to do with your phone, stay on Pure NOT ROOTED stock or Rooted Stock with no recovery or just go all out and root install recovery and trigger your Knox counter "loosing" ur warranty
