.......then I would flash a custom JB Rom. Could I do it? How? Thanks.
By having a read in the Development thread, (best way to learn mate!)
Best place to start is below, It has guides on unlocking bootloader, installing recovery and flashing boot.img and rom (which is what you need to do )

there's already a FAQ thread, and i think updating it will be better.
But I'll still add it tomorrow, i don't have any time.
Hi,
first, my former device was a Samsung Galaxy S and i'm quite familiar with flashing ROMs and such on that device. The HTC One X is my first HTC device so i'm new in flashing and HTCs.
I used the method described in the below thread to flash CWM to my HTC One X
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1579797
My question now is this, can i receive OTAs with CWM flashed on my device? It is implied in the thread that i need the stock recovery to do so.
There is a stock recovery image supplied in this thread. Can i flash it to any strock ROM version or do i need the specific one for my ROM version and if so where can i get this version?
In order to flash CWM i had to unlock the bootloader, do i need to revert this for OTAs?
Thanks for your answers.
Hey,
with Clockworkmod flashed, you cant install OTA updates, you have to flash stock recovery and relock your bootloader.
If you have a custom rom, you have to install Stock RUU to recieve and install OTAs.

You need stock rom and stock recovery. If your stock rom is just rooted, that's fine, but if you deleted system apps or modded, it might not work.
To install stock recovery you need to be unlocked, but unless you relocked, you're good to go.
You don't need to relock to install OTA.
To install RUU, you need to be relocked, but you don't need to install the stock recovery.
Edit: Urgh, that was quite a bump from the guy above. But the correction is still useful.
Hi,
I have rooted my OneX and installed a customer ROM and Clockwork mod recovery.
Having tried a number of customer ICS Roms and a couple of JellyBean Roms I'd like to return to stock.
I'd like to return to stock image, stock recovery etc - I have downloaded the .exe tool to apply the latest OTA update (from this site) however it keeps failing. I suspect I need to replace the Clockwork MOD recovery and the boot.img with the default ones - however I cannot find them. I have searched for a while so this is not a quick "somebody do my searching for me" type post..
Any clues? HTC website returns very little (I am running a European model - not AT&T)
Thank you,
Nick
I imagine that before you installed a custom rom you were on software version 1.29.401.11?
Look for that RUU and flash that RUU.
There are some threads here already that are about going back to Stock, have a quick search, I think theres one stickied in Android Development about Stock ROMS, possibly in General.

Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1655636
Easiest way (for me anyway)...
1. Download the 2.17.401.2 RUU from the Shipped ROMs thread in the Dev forum
2. Extract the boot_signed.img and recovery_signed.img from the RUU (there are guides on here how to do this)
3. Flash the boot and recovery images onto the unit
4. Relock the bootloader
5. Flash the RUU
Hi guys,
can anyone plz help me with my problem
i have unlocked wildfire s from other forums tutorials but since xda's tuts were confusing now it seems to be same & i unlocked it officially from htcdev.com
now it has a superuser and its rooted and i have to install customs rom but its ends with bootloop
i have s-on , does it take to make it s-off and then flash custom roms to work properly?
If Yes ?
please give me the link
I have search entire forum but a bit confused also read stickies
also can anyone tell which rom is better for better saving?
cm9 or wildchild v3.0 or anyone?
Thanks
u dont need s-off to install custom rom...u just need to unlock bootloader. Flash a custom recovery like CWM recovery and then flash c.......ustom roms...
both wildchild and cm9 are nice roms....but cm9 has got some bugs...

thanks blogslogger for the link
When ever installing a custom rom, always make a nandroid backup. Then in recovery do a factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache. Once you've done those steps you can install the custom rom and hopefully it should boot up without a problem.
TUTORIAL
Here's a full tutorial for bootloader unlocking, recovery installing, rooting and custom rom (cyanogenmod 10) installing:

You need a recovery mod
I recommend the official clockworkmod recovery 5.02.8
Hi All
I'm not a complete noob but so much to learn
I've successfully rooted and s-off and custom rom a sensation and a couple of tablets.
However regarding my Desire HD 2.35 GB HBoot 2.00.0029
I have managed to Boot unlock, Root and CWM
So far though I can't s-off
Can I still flash a custom rom or do I have to have s-off ?
Which roms can i flash now?
If not is there an s-off tut for 2.35GB
Thanks
Stu
If you want S-Off you need to do it manually. The automated tool for it, AAHK, has been retired. There's a thread around here with manual instructions, but it's not for noobs. You can flash a custom ROM from recovery if you leave your phone the way it is (as far as I'm understanding, S-On, bootloader unlocked, rooted), but you need to fastboot flash the ROM zip's boot.img each time you flash a new ROM.
