Hi,
Just followed bagocrap24's excellent step-by-step guide for unlocking the bootloader on the One X and am about to install Clockworkmod Touch Recovery 5.8.2.7.
I'm on branded T-Mobile ROM at the moment (v.1.26.110.5). I have downloaded this ROM posted by rogersnm here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25310993&postcount=518
Once I've got the CWM recovery installed, is it a simple case of installing the stock 1.28 ROM or have I missed something? There seems to be so much information spread across so many threads, I don't know what I need to know and what I don't, if that makes sense.
I really don't want to screw up my phone, and would just like to be running stock v1.28 ROM.
Thanks for your help folks.
Hello there,
I flashed the InsertCoin ROM, it works very well and stock 1.28 with tweak options up to your choice!
Download the Rom.zip, copy the boot.img from within the download and put it in the same folder where u have the fsstboit and cwm files according to the noon guide u just followed, copy the zip of the ROM to the root of your HOX storage...
Power down the HOX and boot into hboot, select fastboot, connect your HOX, open a cms window on your computer type in
cd c:\fastboot
then
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You can flash first the zip from within cwm and then the boot.img as you have only your (backed up in cwm) shipped Rom on it, right? Take good care of the backup....
So, put the zip on HOX, boot into cwm, choose zip, install zip follow on screen guide, boot into hboot, select fastboot, do the cmd as above, re-boot and you good to go!
Be aware to not let the battery drain as in OFF mode it won't charge for the time being...
Let me know how you got on...happy flashing

Thanks for your reply. I've updated to the latest CWM Recovery and am now just looking for a stock, unbranded HTC 1.28 ROM.
I'm weird in that I actually like 'Sense', I'd just like to be rid of the T-Mobile crap they shoe-horned in (for no apparent reason or benefit). Would be nice to be network-unlocked too.
Is there a stock HTC 1.28 RUU for download yet?
Edit:
Am I being dim? Further reading suggests I may need to be on stock recovery and locked bootloader to install RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.9_Radio_ 1.1204.103.14_release_256469_signed?
edited. CWM was updated. ;p
Updated again? I'm on 5.8.3.1 which seems to be the latest.
I'm still being dim. How do I remove the T-Mobile RUU (1.26.110.x) and flash 1.28.401.9 which I've downloaded?
Folks, I'm still a little confused as to what I need to do to get the unbranded ROM on my phone. Do I need to flash a stock recovery, re-lock the bootloader, wipe the phone and then install the unbranded ROM?
Many thanks, I just don't want to delete the ROM on my phone without knowing I've understood what I need to do next...
Edit: With stock recovery and relocked bootloader, attempting to enter recovery brings up the red triangle with the exclamation mark.
Anyone...? I was really hoping someone might be able to help me out.

Start by following the Everything HTC One X link in my signature and deciding what you want to do. Come back if you have further questions.
Thanks pdagenius, I've already read through that thread.
As I understand it, I have two options:
1) install a stock, unbranded HTC ROM. This requires a relocked bootloader and stock recovery. When I reset to stock recovery and relocked the bootloader, I couldn't get into the recovery to flash the unbranded ROM. I get the red triangle with the exclamation mark.
2) I can use a different ROM such as Android Revolution HD (which I like the look of as it looks stock). However, there seems to be conflicting information wrt to whether or not to flash new firmware (seems this isn't possible with S-ON?). Additionally, the boot.img link for download in the OP is broken.
As great a community as this is, I've found that often there is simply so much information out there that it's overwhelming, and difficult to find what I need to know and what I don't need to worry about. I think to think I have a little savvy about me but tbh it's a little bit 'information overload'.
With the phone being so new, I really can't afford to brick it....
OK, I've gone with ARHD now..
Thanks to those who offered advice, this thread can now be closed.
I have HTC One X international
with cid HTC_621 (Chunghwa - TW version *.*.751.*)
I was trying to upgrade to JB using the factory RUU, but never got to that point.
First I flashed the new firmware/bootloader(?) in the xda thread
firmware collection
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957376
using
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
I hadn't downloaded the ruu image back then, so I proceeded to boot the phone as usual.
When I booted the phone I got boot loops.
Now I am trying to use the original ics ruu, but it says battery is below 30%, even though it looks as if the phone is totally charged(LED is green).
Is it possible the phone is not charging
I am trying fastboot, and
Code:
fastboot devices
lists the device. However most commands return an error (command write failed , or something like that)
How do I flash the ICS RUU, or get the phone working again?
Thanks for any help
You've updated the firmware, but not the ROM. You need to install a JB rom for it to work. You can't downgrade to an ICS rom because of S-On.
Flash any JB rom and it should work (don't forget to flash the boot.img that comes with it).
If you're not sure how to do that, you can also relock your bootloader and flash the appropriate JB RUU file. That will also fix it.
If you want you can flash a ics rom (at least the sense ones) on the higher hboots. But you can't downgrade to ics with ruu. But you can restore a ics nandroid backup so it seems you are on stock ics
If you get the cid from your phone you can look for a matching nandroid backup in the nandroid backup thread from matt95 in the general section. If you restore that completely and flash the stock recovery after that you will probably also get the JB update to update the phone to the proper JB stock rom
hello dudes... my cid no is "HTC__023"... when i first got the phone I made an OTA update when my bootloader had been still locked.... then i unlocked it, flashed a custom recovery, and flashed the ICS Android Revolution which i still hv now... ok i want to upgrade to jelly bean. i downloaded this stock RUU "RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_45_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_3.14.707.24_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_296434_signed"
which i thought was the correct one for me... it's saying that the image version is being updated from (Image version: 2.17.728.5) to (Image version: 3.14.707.24)... after it starts updating the signature, it gives me ((error 159: image error))... hv i missed sth ?
any solution plz even with a JB custom rom...
P.S.
I flashed a stock recovery and relocked bootloader before starting the update process.

I think that you have take a incorrect RUU and if i am correct your phone now is a.... XD!
Any ways i dont know a lot of RUU but seem to be incorrect because the numbers doent matxh "x.xx.728.x" "x.xx.707.x", and i think that these three numbers have to be the same!

If you are asking a question, you need to ask your question in the correct subforum, which I have moved this thread to.
There is no usable ruu for you, and i don't see a "new" nandroid backup either. But you can do this :
Download here your matching firmware. The HTC__023 one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957376
Place the file in the fastboot folder and rename it to firmware.zip
Put the phone in the bootloader and relock it. Then flash the firmware
Fastboot oem lock
Fastboot oem rebootRUU
Fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
Do it multiple times until it says Oke, if it does not the first time !
Reboot the bootloader (hold power button and volume - button until you are in the bootloader)
Unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery and install a new JB rom of your choice
Even if the rom is stock or it's not possible.
In fact there is a JB stock nandroid you can use. But you have to update the hboot first
http://bugsylawson.com/index.php/files/file/186-cwm-nandroid-backup-cid-htc-023-3177281/
ok but i meant to say can i use ANY stock rom of my choice coz i want full arabic support or maybe i shd stick to my cid -related roms?
When you upgraded the hboot you can use any rom out here. Custom roms, stock rom.....whatever you want. The only cid related rom here is that stock nandroid backup i linked you. 99% of the custom roms here are based on the wwe base.
Thank you very much for giving a helping hand... it worked... i flashed the firmware successfully ... one last thing: generally, we flash a stock recovery and relock the bootloader before we install a stock RUU using the computer i mean ... Can i now, after flashing the firmware, install ANY stock RUU, arabic to be specific, using the computer as usual without flashing a stock recovery and locking my bootloader?
thank you
No you must flash a custom recovery and flash a custom rom. Or you must restore the stock nandroid backup.
You can't run a ruu. There is no ruu available for you to use.
2 choices :
1: install any custom JB rom
2: restore the stock 3.17 nandroid backup, flash back the stock 3.17 recovery. Then you be able to install official OTA
after i flashed the firmware and twrp jb recovery i cant access the sd card from the recovery anymore... pc says Mtp failed
any ideas?
ah ok got it sorted out.. i tried cwm recovery and it mounted successfully ....
Oke cool,so its all sorted now ?
Yes got it all .. thank you
However, as you can see in the attached image the internal storage is nearly full. Well I just flashed the Rom as you know. I wonder what the problem could be.

Check the installed apps list. Maybe the user installed apps before making the nandroid backup
Hello Everyone, as in the subject, my touch isn't working, so i need to ship my phone(under warranty) to the technical center,
so, I wanted to relock the bootloader and use a ruu .
Here it's my problem, i tryed many many method, but i cannot use the latest available ruu (3.14.x) since i installed before the originale stock 3.18.x rom.
The ruu. exe give me every times the error 140, even if i try after rewriting boot.img, signed_recovery.img and so on.
I tryed many things, but i cannot do it, so here my questions:
1) Someone already have the right working solution?
2) i thought to flash a stock rom based on 3.14.401.31 and retry to use the ruu, so can someone give me a link to download a "old" rom like that?
3) other suggests?
Thank you very very much in advance for your help!

Flash a custom recovery and then flash a stock 3.18 nandroid inc boot image that matches your cid. Once the nandroid has been flashed, flash the stock recovery and relock the bootloader. Perform a factory reset to remove the previous users data. You should then be able to send the phone back to HTC
Hope it helps

first of all thank you for your reply,
I already try to restore a 3.18 nandroid, downloaded from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140 (cid 032)
I restore it by trwp, but i was some problem, the touch doesn't work, after check and recheck i thought that the problem was in boot.img, so i try to download the 3.14 boot.img and i flash it, but i had same result, i tryed with others and every times i have a different problem, the last, i have no gsm signal and it looks like the phone had no imei.
Maybe i just need a correct boot.img, but i still didn't find it
do you think i'm right?

I would flash the firmwire zip again.
Here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38781030&postcount=29
It contains the new touch image, stock recovery, boot image etc
If that does not help you could flash a stock rom created by Mike1986 using trwp or cwm. Flash the stock recovery and then lock the bootloader.

Ok, the first suggest didin't work, but with the second suggest i flash the stock rom (odexed version) i flash the recovery, i lock the bootloader.
Now it looks ok!
I hope this topic could be useful to someone else: the only way (at least in my case) to have a stock rom if in the phone was a 3.18 version, is to upgrade to that 3.19....i don't know why, but...that's it!

Thats good to know that you got it back to stock. You should be able to send it back to be repaired.
And if you have trouble with TWRP touch(and you will because of flashing new firmware in stock JB OTA) you need to use TWRP 2.4.0.0 from main TWRP page but only TWRP 2.4.0.0 with JB string at the end, or TWRP 2.5.0.0 repacked also to work with JB from here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40120901&postcount=509, and because of upgrade to JB firmware in this versions of TWRP you have touch but no mont usb storage and adb working in recovery, i think that new CWM 6.0.3.0 have adb support and mount usb storage but no touch..
Hello All,
So I recently bought a M8 and I just need some help in getting the steps nailed down correctly. Be warned long post with lots of questions...
Code:
fastboot getvar version-main
version-main: 3.32.111.3
fastboot oem readcid
(bootloader) cid: T-MOB101
That is basically my device, now due to it being 4.4.4 from factory I am unable to use Sunshine & Weaksauce. I could wait until the new year but why
bother .
First step:
Get my factory firmware image after reading this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376 due to it being a T-Mobile and
Germany and 4.4.4 I am unable to run the command listed there to get the stock recovery, so how do I get the stock recovery for my device? @BerndM14
Has provided me with a link to download the latest firmware for my device but it has the TWRP recovery inside it, link is this one: http://www.handy-
faq.de/forum/htc_one_m8_custom_roms/304821-htc_one_m8_firmwaresammlung_ruus_otas_backups.html#post2832636. I should point out that I do have a OTA
waiting to download and install, should I download and install it? The version listed on the screen is 3.32.111.9 and is only 183.73MB. Would it have a
viable stock recovery? Can I downgrade to a older version for the stock recovery?
Second step:
Once the above is done and dusted my next step is getting root & S-OFF & custom recovery. This is relatively simple because all I need to do is visit
HTCDev, unlock and then S-OFF with Sunshine and then a custom recovery. Correct? Sounds and looks simple enough.
Third step:
Download ROM of choice and flash away. So I am going with InsertCoin due to user loyalty from the Desire days . However I see people in the thread
mentioning that they flashed the latest firmware to sort out a couple of issues, I take it they mean the ROM file and not HTC firmware?
Fourth and probably not needed step:
Changing the phone to WWE and SuperCID? Do I really need to do this? Benefit of changing to WWE is changing the HBOOT to a more universal one? The
reason why I am thinking of converting is because I would want to get rid of the red text on the boot screen as listed here: http://forum.xda-
developers.com/showpost.php?p=51744965&postcount=1 however for T-Mobile Dutch the HBOOT CIDS are T-MOB003, if I flash that would it cause a problem?
I would also be looking at running the commands to change the flags showing tampered and unlocked but that looks simple to do. Am I missing anything? For warranty purposes I would use the instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2710735 but download the recovery file for T-MOB Germany instead?
Thank you for reading the long post and I hope that I have made some sort of sense.
Yes it will have the firmware.zip with the recovery.img inside it. Even the small 47MB or so, OTA update for the WWE from 2.22.401.4 - 2.22.401.5 had the firmware.zip inside. So just download the OTA.zip copy to PC extract firmware.zip and grab the recovery.img.
Benefits to converting to WWE or even Developer edition also includes the fact that those devices will receive OTA updates before any carrier version, directly from HTC. It's a bonus if you're into the "latest & greatest" scene.
As for making a backup before flashing custom recovery, have you tried booting the custom recovery? Philz will probably be better if you want to use the booted custom recovery to make a backup of stock recovery. You could also try and boot either TWRP or Philz and see if you can root your device without flashing custom recovery, that way you can at least use the dd command to grab a copy of the recovery block. <My preferred method, though it's a terrible circle. Need to flash custom recovery to root, need root to make backup of stock recovery... So hopefully booting the custom recovery will work. That being said, easiest way still remains to grab it from the OTA.zip.
Perhaps you could even upload a copy of the OTA.zip and share it on here, I don't think the OP has a copy in the second post
ROM/Firmware. You need the latest firmware to run the latest ROM. For most it'll be firmware with 3.x. If you still run on 2.x(which you aren't) you'd have some problems with radio(bluetooth, gps, wifi, data etc)
Thank you for the reply .
To be honest I have not tried booting a custom recovery because I saw this in the first post of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
fastboot boot recovery_filename.img (this does not work on the latest 3.xx firmwares !!! we need to get the stock recoveries from the OTA files)

So I am not sure what to try to be honest. This toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51383278&highlight=ota#post51383278 mentions getting root without S-OFF but with a unlocked bootloader. So I am thinking that if I follow those steps, maybe when I get to the reboot phase I can execute a nandroid instead which might get me the files I want?
I won't bother with WWE then. I will rely on the dev's to give me the latest & greatest .

Hm, yeah I also had some problems booting a recovery, but I just tested it out again. I can at least boot TWRP version 2.8.3.0 so it still works for me. I'm on 3.28.1540.5 (Developer edition). Haven't tried Philz though, net a bit too slow to bother with even a small download
No problem. I am busy downloading the OTA.zip and once complete I will try the toolkit method and see what happens . Again, thank you for the reply.
I need some help... My phone seems to be stuck in fastboot mode and is not picked up in Device Manager of Windows. I can touch the fastboot screen and it vibrates but it does not nothing. I have held down the power button for 20 seconds with no result. I had just unlocked the bootloader and then tried pushing the Philz recovery image to the device with the command line:
Code:
C:\android\sdk\android\platform-tools>fastboot boot philz_touch_6.57.8-m8.img
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 1.541s]
booting...
OKAY [ 0.002s]
finished. total time: 1.547s
*edit*
Holding volume up + power for 10 seconds helped *whew*...

You can use any 3.32 based stock recovery for your phone. There are plenty of backups for that on this thread. No need to backup your own.
Thank you guys! That helps me a lot! Off I go to flash a custom recovery .
