Just saying... but if S-OFF was needed it would have more than likely been mentioned at least once in the 50+ threads and easily found using the search function.
I think I smell a troll....

Pretty sure s-off is only fur htc phones...

Well you should not say things without actually saying whats on your mind, some have many devices or try out new devices and as most know and I now know about Android that all things are not the same in every instance so mind what you say please.

All I'm saying is that simply searching would have pretty much said that S-OFF isn't needed on our phone... A simple search would have answered the majority of the questions you've asked. I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just saying that asking questions to which the answer can be found within mere seconds does nothing but clutter up the board.
"How do I root?" "I dunno, have you read any one of the various threads?"
"How do I unbrick?" "I dunno, have you read through any of the 3 guides explaining step-by-step how to do so?"
"How do I copy the contents of my SD card to another one?" ...... granted, this one doesn't really have any reference on here, but does it seriously need it?

Never asked about 'unbricking' and as 'you' should know, there are many rooting threads and not all work also why should there be soooo many rooting threads with not all working plus there should be dedicated rooting methods 'proven' to work on each model of this device 'just saying. (not knocking the efforts of the programers of these tools)

Rooting Help, EVO 4G Noob

I have just moved over from an iPhone, which I had used for the past 3 years. I love my Evo but want to be able to do more with it through rooting. I have read many guides and can never get it to root or understand half of the terminology. My current setup is an EVO 4G with Android 2.2, software build: 3.26.651.3, and baseband: 2.15.00.07.28. Am I able to root this setup and what all is needed. There may not be a method for this setup yet which is fine. I am just very new to all of this and would love to understand it and get to work on the underlying beauties of Froyo. Thanks.
You currently can't root that build yet. I'm sure it will happen sooner than later. I would just stay tuned for now and keep reading up on roms, terminology, etc. so that you are more familiar with everything when the time comes.
no way to root that yet. i don't think it will be too long though. read through some guides, and study up in the meantime. you'll be better off when a method is ready.
Wrong Section not sure how rooting your phone is considered "Development" unless you have discovered ROOT.

Doesn't mean you can't answer their question so they don't have to respond back while also NICELY guiding them to the right section. (saves time and keeps the community nice)
the question was answered above so i dont think in this case they really needed to answer it again so that they could point out that the person posted in the wrong forum : \
also as an honest question how is you criticizing them for pointing out the op is in the wrong forum on every thread different then them?
honestly i think "noobs" will always just post where they want as many are only around to get questions answered as quickly as possible with as little effort as possible (nothing really wrong with that per say) and could careless about anything else. With people posting in the wrong section you will always have people complaining its in the wrong section so do we really need to add 2 new groups to this ? the people complaining about the person pointing out wrong forum and the person complaining about them to the list?
I would suggest learning to live with it and we can all pray for a forum utopia where everyone posts where they are supposed to, no one flames, and everyone learns how to search.

Or they could restrict posting new topics in this forum completely and make a subforum off it for users to post and be reviewed and be moved into this forum after it was deemed development worthy, thereby eliminating the ability to post in the forum altogether. Works well in a lot of other forums I've been on and moderated before.

[Q] What does "Dodexed" mean?

Okay I rooted my EVO about a week or so ago and Im running the Frost ROM... I like it but I would like to check out some other ROMs and what kind of addons or MODs that are available... I keep running across the term "dodexed" and "odexed"(?) i think is what it was...Can some one please explain to me what that means...
Also what is the differance in Sense and non sense ROMs... What is aosp??
Any clairification would be helpful...
Thanks
Dude you have over one hundred posts. And they're all questions about this and that. Are you aware of the fact that there is a search bar for these forums. I have seen this question asked a lot of times. Hell I even wondered but I searched before starting a thread about it.

haha deathsled beat me to it. seriously though... i believe (not sure) that this is correct.
dont quote me on it. correct me if i'm wrong.
so each apk has a matching .odex file that contains stuff for it. if you flash a theme a theme (altering framework-res.apk or other app) then the odex and apk dont match and you get system failiure. so odexed roms are unthemeable. i think thats about right. google it (thanks deathsled)
ahhh got it. google is friend. posted by berzerker

so baisically odex is compressed more and deodexed allows for themeing.

Seems like this kind of thing is all to common in the open source scene. Same type response was given on email lists when someone asked for help back in the 90s when trying to stuff linux on an old 386 box for the s&gs. Open source is teh 1337z!!!1! All the flaming doesn't bother me, I can play this game all day long! I have done more than enough searching to be immune to this kind of treatment... I had a million questions in the begining and I only posted a few specific questions... and even though one can search the forums for an answer to a specific problem, more than some ppl here on XDA can't explain things clearly enough to be of any help to any one - skipping steps and being vague doesn't really help any one but yourself to raise your post count. Needless to say, most threads are useless... they 'cause more confusion than solutions. I'll keep doing what I want and you can keep flaming me 'cause you are better than me & I need a laugh every now and then...

try asking on the irc. very helpful and knowledgable people there.

who gets a thrill out of being a D*** to people?

I just wanted to post because i see on most threads theres usually someone has to be a cheeky arrogant **** to someone that is simply asking for help and doesn't have much knowledge.
My understanding was you came here for help and support and to try and help others is it not? But yet, when people ask for help they often get slaughtered for various reasons such as: wrong section, repeated thread, not searching properly, using the wrong punctuation etc (the last one was exagerated a bit but it wouldnt surprise me)
Basically before i came here years ago I would not have even known what Root is/does, why you would flash different ROMs etc and i have learned everything thanks to XDA and the various genious' that make it all possible.
I just dont think its right the way some people THINK they can talk/treat others and it is certainly uncalled for.
For example when i first came here I had the Xperia X10 and was very interested in the work and came across a problem when flashing someones ROM but I didnt have enough posts to reply so had to start a thread in General asking for help and the response i got you think i had just launched a nuke and killed thousands.
I know i will probably get slaughtered for this but basically i think this is a problem that should be addressed and no one else will say anything about it so i will!
And one final thing i cant understand. What could possibly make you feel good about making a **** out of others??? If you are one of these people could you kindly do me a favour and go play chicken with an incoming 12 Gauge Round from point blank range. That is all
i know some.. i can name them too.. neh, they know themselves..

Use Search, you'll save thousands (of posts).
You could've used search and save us from another thread talking about helpful people
It relieves stress being a **** to others online knowing you won't get shot for it afterwards. Words from a stranger can't hurt enough for it to be an actual problem can it? There are now two active similar threads on this issue.

Quoted for truth.
When I joined XDA I took a couple days and just searched for what I needed, learned as much as I could and THEN asked questions.
The problem here is many of the veteran users are tired of people coming in, and in their first ever post asking for something that if they literally did 5 minutes of searching would find.
As well if you are not technical or its hard for you to understand what you're doing and why, you should reconsider rooting your phone as there is nobody but this place to come help you fix it if you screw up. And while yes it is simple to do, its also easy to screw up.
So the vets see these people come in, ask (or sometimes demand) step by step instructions because they have no clue, and have proven they can't take 5 minutes to try and figure it out themselves. They are now jaded to it after it happens at least 4 or 5 times a week, so cut them some slack.
Answer me this. Would you go out, buy a Corvette, then decide you want to supercharge it so you go to the local corvette club meet. Walk in and say "which of you guys is gonna tell me exactly how to put this supercharger on my car, and I've never turned a wrench in my life." Seriously, what happens here is the digital equivalent.

+1. I find it much faster/easier using google to search xda than the actual xda search function.
I also did the same as Rogue Leader. I spent a few days scanning through alot of threads before posting and i found most of the answers i were looking for.
Everyone understands that newbs have to start somewhere (since i was a newb/still am lol when i got the xplay) but surely most people will have been on a fourm before? Or have used google to search before? No excuses really.
In the time it takes for someone to reply or after the flaming has stopped they could have easily found the answer they were looking for.

What you decide to do or not to do does not depend on others action or doing here on xda. You choose to be rude and a ****. How come you feel this resentment. You most have an anger problem and they are just easy targets for ventilating that agro. Who are you to judge others wheter they derserve a flaming or not. You clearly state your own level of knowledge in your own post and you can whine all day long and lay the responsebility on them for you being a ****. I'm gobsmacked over people like you, you take as little responsebility as the multi posters does. Learn how to behave or shut up and don't bloody answer nor look in those threads. Do yourself that favor.

That one was definitely me... But, I am pretty sure I didn't have those mistakes in the original post.
That could have all been me But that definitely was a time when there was like 100 threads asking the same question and you decided to make a whole new thread even though there were several threads just below yours that had already been answered.
I am one of those people who actually will ask google before asking the internet for answers, and it has saved me a lot of flames.
ALSO, you posted the same thread twice, maybe three times and I fkn hate people who think they will get more attention by the continuous posting of the same question! Just like the 12 year old who has been posting multi-threads asking how to fix his wi-fi in all the forums.

Worse, people seemed to follow these 'respected' members like sheep.

Anal beads run Android? Man droid really does do "everything"!
But when you type in your "title" when you create a new thread, other threads with the same name pops up. So if you start typing like "How do i ROOT my xperia play?" I'll promise you that some threads about the exact same topic will pop up
if you want to use google search inside the xda forum, use this chain in google: "site:http://forum.xda-developers.com/" + the thing you want to search. For example:
site:http://forum.xda-developers.com/ rooting xperia play
Of course, this applies to any other website.

[Suggestion]Open a '[FAQ]Runnymede ports thread' ffs

Nice. Now I see suggested threads popping all over the place as I type this. I find it very indicative.
Oxygen tips&tricks is inactive as most users go rather to their forums. I mean, c'mon, 14 runnymede threads on the first two pages of Q&A (and counting) looks ridiculous and makes all of us look silly. Release Oxygen and place this instead when apparently dedicated rom threads are not enough for some people.

Right.
So, people post a question on the development forum, and the usual suspects jump at them for doing that (understandably so). THEN, they post the same question on the Q&A forum, and you jump at them again?
Get a life and be more polite in the future. No one is forcing you to answer to their threads.

What level of politeness you expect? You come barging in, you do what is called selective reading and completely irrelevant to the topic at hand as you have done it before, and now I turn impolite?
So, let me make a summary of what you wrote - someone opens a thread in development section where the only thing someone developed is brain hemorrhaging, they get bashed (understandably so), mods intervene and move it to where it belongs (I concur), while at the same time that very rom has it's own dedicated thread for the inquiries like that?
Actually I won't jump on them but I agree. They're all about the same thing so the ops should be tagging on to the end of the thread. That's just forum etiquette really

Which is highly hypocritical from them, because if they do have important matters to attend to they wouldn't bother posting here in the first place.

Android 4.0

Hi just seen a video of android 4.0 and it looks cool. Is there any ROM that has this?
Thanks
Did you check the development section for Desire?

Everthing is working sweet except the camera.
Really? Is it possible to be THAT uninformed?

I think the ignorant ones are those who are forgetting that we are all noobs and clueless at the beginning. Then they gain a little knowledge, and suddenly think they're better than everyone else. This attitude is RAMPANT on this board.

I agree. We are here to help each other no matter the level of experience.
Terepin, I am sure you'll feel a lot better if you start helping _everyone_.
@DamonZ28 and @sudkcoce:
I also agree on that, but the thread opener already has more than 100 posts. How does that fit?
on topic:
Tried the ROM in Sandvold's Thread some days ago. Working quite good so far, but needs a little more speed.

It's not matter of level of experience, but level of stupidity. People who can't/won't/are lazy to use search and read, asking questions that were answered billions of times, asking for info that is available in sticky threads and posting "this rockz/I love you/can i have your autograph?" **** deserve to burn in BAN hell.
Users which actually do require help from senior members are only few. The rest is just lazy stupid little kids and ungrateful pigs, thinking that we are obligated to help them.
BULL****!
We already lost several great developers because of them and I'll fight them until my last breath, to slow down the process of turning this place into n00b swamp. 'Cause it's happening already, you mark my words on that.

Dude chill out man, we all start somewhere, some people have much more experience than others that doesn't make them "lazy stupid little kids and ungrateful pigs"
If you have a problem with people on the forums just leave them alone. i am in no way the most experienced guy here. i cant develop new ROMS/Apps/themes or anything to be honest. i just use what other people have made. i asked questions on how to flash a new rom when i joined the forums. i read the tutorials, does that make me a " lazy stupid little kid and an ungrateful pig"?
You read tutorials, yet you asked how to flash ROM?

To be exact i messed something up and my phone was stuck in a bootloop while flashing a ROM. And guess what, someone helped me out and got it working for me! Isn't that amazing! The wonders of people HELPING others out
I get there are loads of tutorials out there, telling people exactly what to do and if something goes wrong what they should do, but if someone ask's for help, why not reply with a helpful answer rather than being a complete prick?
Edit: Ignore this. Mods delete this post.

Because those tutorials exist purely for the purpose of answering FAQ, so newbies don't have to ask them all the time. And yet, they still do. There is a word for that, and that word is spamming.

Now with camera - HERE
I think the biggest annoyance with this thread is that the OP is clearly aware of how to flash ROMs, and therefore I would assume where to find them. Therefore a very quick look at the dev forum would have shown them the ICS builds currently being developed - making this thread needless.
