Just got a epic touch off of eBay. When I got the phone it had a few bars but never showed any data status. Now all I get is the circle with a slash through it. Any help would be appreciated

He needs to update his profile - this isn't "LOS".

i see this is your first post..welcome to the boards...
but do a search before posting. there are at LEAST 5-10 active threads about this already that you would have found by just looking in the general or q&a session!
but yes anytime it happens just reboot the phone
I don't think this is LOS. I cant get the phone activated because it will not aquire a signal. I have rebooted pulled battery and flashed the samsung stock recovery through odin.
Call CS and have them update over the air
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
So that will give me a signal again. I don't understand
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I would try flashing the modem again.
Check esn and see if it clean. Is the phone still active on the account.

The esn is clean I checked it several times. Where can I find the modem file so I can flash. It has been 3 days still no signal. Sprint won't help because its not active do no insurance.

The modem files, if you want them, are in the development thread. There's a few. You'll probably want the newer EG31 modem that is now up.

Just loaded the modem files through odin. Still no signal at all. When I go into phone info under prl it shows default. Could this be my problem. Should I send it in to Samsung for warranty replacement even though I'm not the original purchaser

It's probably not your problem, more likely it is a symptom of your problem. Under some situations when you don't have signal, the PRL says default until you get signal.
Did you contact the seller on ebay? I sure would.
The op is a little unclear... have you flashed the stock .tar file from here?
I would do a complete flash using the .pit file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351761
I thought about contacting the seller but I don't know who is at fault. When i first received the phone it had a signal. It started the over the air activation but never activated. Started the manual programming then got the no signal status. I don't want to blame the seller cause I like to do good business. He may say it had service till u tried to activate it. I will try to flash the stock files and select re partition option too.

there are also instructions somewhere around here how to clear out all user data and start the provisioning process over again. i know i saw them recently but am not sure which thread its in.
So, you can't get into Odin Mode, flash the full stock EG30 ROM by Crawrj and start completely fresh?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Yes I can get into odin mode.

Can I restore my CWM image to it? I'm guessing no...IMEI will come out different, tower information etc.
Thought i'd ask though anyways
I'm pretty sure you can. I used to do it for both my Captivate phones and never had an issue. Shouldn't aftect IMEI at all. Remember, all those who lost their imei numbers a while ago couldn't restore it back even with their cwm backup. That tells me that cwm backup doesn't touch the imei
Maybe wait and see if anyone else has any ideas but as far as I know you most likely could.

I've done this with other sammys, not my GSIII however but I don't see why it should be any different. Just make sure you back up prior to restoring your other phones nandroid.

hello to all friends. I have a note with 2 imei but generic baseband correct. I accidentally deleted the efs folder but without backup. Now there is no network signal and I can not call or send text messages. I've tried all the methods described on each web forum but nothing. If I delete the folder is in factory mode. Three days I have no phone and I want to avoid back for assistance. Please help! Even in payment methods but please HELP
Why are you crying now. No one but Samsung can help you.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Why would you delete the EFS folder? That's like stripping your phone off of its identity. Try installing stock rom through Odin it's a long shot but worth a try otherwise your gonna have to make new friends at the Samsung service center.
Sent from the Rabbit Hole
Sorry but I agree with all the above posts. Your pretty much screwed! You should at least try to install a stock rom via Odin or Mobile Odin. This could fix your issue but most probably not.You can inquire at your local cell phone repair store but this could be pricey. No sense asking others for a copy of their EFS. Its kinda like asking someone for their social security number. Best of luck
Does others efs backup work?
I know several people in Korea and I can probably get them to send you an efs backup given you're not going to use it in the same country.

It might work but chances are pretty slim and not without doing some modifications to the efs backup you plan.to send the OP. It's gonna require a lot of reading and time spent on Google especially for a newbie.

No.
If you restore else's efs then you both would be liable to jail.
Because imei is strictly unique.
If two phones with same imei connect to network then it would disable both your phones.
Plus advanced legal steps could be taken against you.
Get to a service center it's still not late.

But if he made a schedule with his friend, with exact hours, when they would use their phones, it will be all legal. Only one phone turned on at a time
No.

Says who? Just because you bought a kirf phone that shares the same imei with lets say a thousand other kirf phones doesn't mean you're liable to imprisonment, and its no different in this case. The most that could ever happen is that the imei would get blocked by the network if used on the same network at the same time. And network providers don't generally sit and monitor who's using the same imei unless a large number of the phones connected are using the same imei hence a lot of kirf phones don't work on certain networks. If the guy wants to tinker with his phone let him be, just don't try scare him off with false info.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
If we both have the same phone and I get a call it could get redirected to any of us.
Network providers use imei to identify us.
We use mobile nos.
If two phones would pop up with same imei. They instantly block both because they don't know which it has to be passed on to.
The server would be configured to block itself.

What about the sim card? they have different ones.
Sorry but I never knew sim cards had imei. They have a sim id or something.

I didn't mean they had IMEI, but that they were the first line of identification: the sms or call comes to your sim and not to your IMEI
Try it.
Both would be blocked within a day I guarantee.

I don't know if you have solved your problem already but i'll still reply to give an idea for people having the same problem who might read this from now on. I think your problem might be fixed by using kies software. Kies software has an option to revert the machine to factory settings with latest firmware installed. It's in kies tools menu. Must be something like "initialize and install latest firmware". I use kies on my native language which is not english so i can't be sure for the right translation of the menu item. It asks you device model no which is GT_N7100 in our case. And then asks for S/N which can be found on the backside of the device under the battery. After you type all these infos it downloads the spesific software necessary to get your device to factory defaults and installs the latest firmware up to date. I think that would also repair your EFS files though i'm not sure. Why would they ask for your device spesific S/N other wise ?
once upon a time i knew a man who using cloned (taken from other phone) imei and he using that phone about 2 years. And nobody disturb him...
Exactly he was doing it illegal. But two of phones had same imei and two of phones were working at the same time (via different sims and phone numbers)
Please dont write here for just being writer. Alwasy write things just when you sure.

Try my mod.efs repair
Transferring efs from one device to another is against XDA rules and illegal. Send the device in for repair.
Hi all, I'm planning to sell my Note 2 and want to be sure I've cleared all of my data. My phone is Rooted, but I've always been on the stock ROM from sprint.
So far I've:
- Formated SD card
- Factory Reset in TWRP
- Wiped Cache/Dalvik Cache
- Wiped Internal Storage in TWRP
I have NOT done a system wipe or 'Format Data'. I've researched and I understand this should be sufficient, should I take it further?

Nope. All good. If you feel like going back to stock without root please follow my posts on helping some bro out though.
But that should all be ok. Good luck with new phone

Thanks for the input Taylor_Swift, I noticed something troubling completely by accident. I don't know if this is related to the Note 2 only or not, but I'm unable to remove my personal phone number and sprint username from Settings>About Device>Status.
I've tried factory reset and even system reset in TWRP and I re-installed the Stock Deodexed Rom from the forums and this did not help. I'm wondering if you or anyone has heard of this and if I can manually remove the data myself?
The only thing I haven't done in TWRP is 'Format Data', I'm not sure that this will work or what it will do.

Your phone needs to be deactivated from sprint or whichever carrier it is linked to. Than the personal info is gone after a wipe. But if the the phone is active, it will always add your info regardless of the rom.

The phone had to be inactive and you need your prl. There is a dialer code you enter, that does a full wipe. Basically the phone is wiped as if it came out the box. I called and got directions when I sold my Evo 3d.

So they told me that since the service has been cancelled already, there's nothing that can be done to remove the information. When the next person that owns the phone activates it, it will reset. I feel like this isn't true, there has to be a way to do this with canceled service....

I think they are just Effing with you, since you no longer have an account. There is a dialer code, I just don't remember it. Try a Google search or if not, hit up a Sprint store. I imagine a Store Rep should know, especially if they have a repair center there.

It does. Both codes redo hands free activation. Only difference is ##786# wipes the whole phone to factory settings while ##72786# just does the hands free activation no wipe.

I bought a phone of a guy and I manually activated the phone the calls work and data on the spot, I didn't have enough time to check the phone and found it it was rooted...anyways I got everything back to stock sprint rom and reset the counter...now there is no internet. I have a feeling that he probably had it hooked up to boost because the data was working on the old rom. I already tried the wipe carriers setting and clean install and reset the counter...
Does anyone know how to go back from Boost to sprint?
You activated it on sprint the first time and it worked? If so nothong wrong. Please give us the details in your about phone section.

If you activated it and it worked fine rooted it sounds like the phone was ok. Maybe you took a wrong step in flashing back to stock. Try going through hand free activation ##72786# and see if that does anything for you.

This sounds more like a phone issue and not that the guy ripped you off. If the phone cleared and activated correctly and now your having issues that's the risk you take when buying used. I recommend next time you buy on eBay or swappa to have a little protection after buying. Good luck.
