I just took the leap and started installing custom ROM's on my new Note 2. I have been rooting and ROM'ing since the original Droid on Verizon and I haven't looked back since. But I am having trouble restoring apps from my stock root ROM to Jedi X7.2 and MyROM ROMs. Titanium backup simply hangs when it hits only certain apps i.e. Tetris, Beautiful Widgets, EasyProfiles, PicSayPro, Seekdroid, and Sketchbook pro.
Anyone else experiencing this? I've tried a bunch of the settings but still nothing.
I haven't noticed that specific behavior, but I have noticed that many apps I restored to my Note2 after switching to a custom ROM, don't run proudly unless I reinstall them.
Like you. I've done this many times on over a dozen different Android models, but the Note 2 is the first I've seen this on. It's not a JB thing because I have JB ROMs on multiple devices.

I backed up and restored all user + system apps on my buddies nexus 4. All seemed well but once he reboots the phone the Gallery app (which includes camera) becomes uninstalled. He had to restore from TB each time he reboots his phone. Anyone have any idea why?

I am experiencing this now when running the latest versions of both JellyBam ROM and Titanium Backup. I had noticed certain apps have frozen up during a restore.

I've THOUGHT it was hung up but some apps take a VERY long time but eventually restore. Give it a real minute or 2. Maybe because they are opened? Other than that I have never had this problem. All USER apps work without issue after restoring and I have restored literally hundreds of times across many devices including the GN2.
You guys can still restore however you need to change the restore mode. Go perf, app processing mode, change to interactive. Roboot.

No it froze once over night. I was going to bed and was just going to let it restore while I slept and it hung on an app that always does, so time doesn't matter.
I'll have to try the interactive mode, but everything is working fine now after manual installs from the market so I don't want to mess things up.

I'm hating it with a passion and I don't know if its something that I may be missing. I purchased the full version and use it to ''Backup Apps + Data'' since I know that backing up system data screws up your phone.
Everytime I switch ROMs I run ''restore apps + data'' and upon completion I run into a ton of force closes and terrible lag issues. I also notice that the lag happens when I'm browsing on 4g. (the force closes happen all the time with almost all the apps)
I end up downloading all my apps all over again and losing my achievements and progress in games. I beat Angry Birds in like 2 days and now I have to do it again.
By the way I always download the busybox in the problems link in titanium backup. I always wipe dalvik and factory reset in between ROMs.

I only get problems when I restore system apps, If I just restore user apps there is no problem. dont restore system data, it will overwrite the good new stuff in the new rom you just flashed and frankenstein it into both the old and the new, hence yhe fc's
sounds like you're restoring something you shouldn't. Don't just do a batch restore, make sure that you're only restoring the apps you want.
Different roms work with different version of wireless tether, spare parts, etc. Just as ZJ mentioned, you restore something that a new rom changed and it could cause problems.
Also, be careful switching between Sense and AOSP Roms, even with just user apps. People have had problems with that. But going from AOSP rom to AOSP rom, I've never had a problem. (I have the paid version, and I switch back and forth constantly.)
I wouldn't say that I've lost faith in TB, but I have never really been a big fan of it. The only things I b/u with TB is Angry Birds, and bookmarks. Everything else I b/u to Astro, or just re-d/l from the market. I try to do a clean install from the market whenever switching ROMS to avoid any data issues.
I use it every time I do a rom to restore all my apps and certain system data. The green things are typically OK to restore to any LIKE rom (sense or ASOP)
Restore like sms messages, bluetooth, wireless, etc.
Don't restore the red stuff.
Ok I will try some of those suggestions.

GQ- I feel your pain. I only just recently started flashing roms and I experienced the exact problem you described.
I went from stock to CM6.1 At first it was nice and fast. After I did the batch Titanium restore it started to get really laggy!
Like someone suggested don't restore important system related stuff (such as system settings) I actually ended up using MyBackUp Pro because it seemed to restore with less stability issues.
Another good idea IMO is to d/l a screen saver app. You can find them in the market. Take a pic of each of your home screens so that you can copy them exactly when you flash your new ROM. Just a lil something I personally do...
Does titanium not work well with an Apps2Sd?

I'm very anal about my home screen and have it set up the same way regardless of what ROM I use. It's easy for me to remember because I prefer using 3 screens. I just notice lag when scrolling through my apps or random force closes on apps I use often. Like you mentioned before I only do a batch backup of installed apps and then I restore apps + data only (not system data).
The mistake I was probably making was having the restore overwrite the newer/existing versions of the same app that came with the ROM I just flashed.
I have noticed when I do a titanium full batch app & all data restore my emails will not auto sync. I have to open and refresh to get it to work.
I noticed that I've had several apps "uninstall" themselves.. all of them were on the SD card.
Seems to be a common bug among quite a few GB builds when I checked it out on Google.
Is there a way to disable "apps to sd"? I'm on the stock ROM, rooted.
I believe it would take a modified a2sd.sh script but I don't yet have the programming experience to feel comfortable altering it myself (I'm still on stock recovery so a nandroid backup isn't an option)
Should probably be a simple fix, any of you Dev's willing to chime in?
Also, anyone else noticed this happening to them?
i've seen that bug a few times, it's quite annoying, some how the OS just loses the installed info about the apps, and you have to re-install them for it to know it's still there
I am seeing this even on apps saved internally.

Are you using an aftermarket launcher or stock launcher? In any event not sure if it matters. I'm running CM7 alpha with Launcher Pro. It randomly happens to me, but I hold the back button on CM7 to force close Launcher Pro, and when it relaunches the apps are fully present. Try killing and restarting your launcher.
I've seen this as well - currently running Bombaridier 3.5 w/ Bullet...I've had this happen on different versions of the ROM, and it's kinda like AllGamer points out: app info seems to be lost, somehow - in my observation, after a reboot. However, if you go to manage your Applications, they'll still show as installed (well, mine do anyhow.) And yeah, reinstalling is no issue.
Restart the launcher? I will have to see about that - I'm running Go Launcher Ex on Bombaridier 3.5; if I see this (hopefully not) again, I will try that to see what happens. Thanks for the tip!
I m using the AOKP nightly of JB. I run zipalign on rom toolbox pro on my blade and everything went fine. Then I did it on my Galaxy Nexus and now only 5 of the 100 applications work. When I use on of the remaining shortcuts on Nova launcher it says the app is not installed. When I go to settings to see the installed apps, they dont appear with their full name but with their apk name ex. com.katana.facebook.apk. Is there a way to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks
Did you try just reinstalling them? It may be easier to just restore a NANDroid or restore a an Appbackup then to actually go and try to fix every single one of them.

Problem Fixed itself
An hour passed and they started playing (appearing) again by themselves .:good: Only one or two minor problems with some of them but everything went back to normal. Its weird though that the high end phone was slower in restoring the apps than the Blade...
Just to let people know, I'm a relative noob to Android in general and particularly to this site, so have some patience.
My wife's Samsung Galaxy S 4g's screen broke, so she got the T989 as a replacement. After doing some research, it seems that Titanium Backup was the recommended way to move data over. So, I needed to educate myself on how to do that. The original phone was easy and I did the backup. The S II was less easy and after spending way too much time on the i9100 forum, I found out I was in the wrong place.
So, anyways, got her phone jailbroken and ran TB on it to restore. Unfortunately, it seems to be the beginning of my problems. Phone app didn't work. Cleared data there, which she lost her contacts. TWLauncher throws errors. Clear data there as well. Messaging hasn't worked either, and it seems to be the solution is to wipe the whole thing. I also can't seem to browse the file system via USB.
What am I doing wrong here? All I wanted to do was to move everything over from the old phone to the new one, but it seems I bought trouble.
You are reporting a back up from a completely different phone. Restoring data will often cause things to go funny. It's usually recommended to simply restore the app and nothing more. I would recommend just resetting the phone back to stock, full wipe and don't restore anything. See how it functions initially, then once you think things are going well, just start to restore apps.
 cheers

If i wanted to back up a game, i selected back up. I changed the back up location to my external sd card and also used google drive to store the info too. If i install twrp and flash a custom rom, will i be able to install the app and continue playing my game at the same spot i saved it at? I tried searching for the answer but have seen mixed answers via google dancing around my specific question. Thanks everyone for your time.

It's going to depend on the app really. Some apps don't play well with some roms. I've backed up games and restored to current roms and been fine, while others didn't restore correctly. Trial and error my friend, trial and error.

Hello.
I have posted this in the forums at Android Central and only got one response. I've had my phone since Feb of this year. Since 11/2 there is major lag. No issues on 11/1. Taps on the home screen are continuously being read as long presses. My lock screen is really laggy, as are home screens and most apps. Bad piggies for whatever reason is working just fine. Most other apps including the keyboard are very laggy. It just seems to be very slow to respond to touch all of a sudden. My phone is rooted stock GB. At AC, I was told an app was hogging RAM. I downloaded Memory Useage from the google play store but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm still getting that lady after killing and uninstalling apps. The lag is still there with the native launcher so I really don't think it has anything to do with GO Launcher. I used TiB to revert GOL back to the previous version. I also uninstalled GOLocker as well. I've done a soft reset but it didn't help.
Is there a way to see my Play update history so I can see which apps installed that night? I've always had the occasional lag but it wasn't ever really a big deal. This is greatly interfering with my use of the phone. I am lucky to type a word before the keyboard disappears. Low resources makes sense but I just can't figure out what app is hogging them.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm thinking of resting back to unrooted GB to upgrade to stock ICS.
The first app in the my apps list is the most recent one. So start uninstalling from the top.. Now if you had installed an app say 2 months ago, uninstalled it a month ago and then reinstalled it today then it won't show at the top of the list. It will be still at that same spot where it was 2 months ago. So keep in mind if you reinstalled some app.
Also you should uninstall apps from applications in settings so you can clear cache and data for that app. Or you restart after each uninstall.

This is so frustrating. In the Play Store App, my "Installed" list is alphabetical and the "All" list is listed by install order with the most recent at the top regardless of timestamp of update. I cannot see any option for changing the order. Should I just go by the TiB list? It is showing the apps in order of update and lets me clear cache and uninstall the apps.

Now I have removed all apps updated on 11/2 or overnight from the evening of 11/1. The only one I can't touch is Kies. I have frozen it with TiB but I'm still getting the super heavy lag. What can I do next? Do I need to just reset the whole device now and start from scratch?
This is really frustrating. I love my phone and haven't had it long enough to switch to something else. Are there any tests that I can perform to check on the screen itself?
I have also installed OS Monitor and the top apps using up the CPU are OS Monitor, SYstem, Google Play Movies & TV, Android System, gzip. THe % used varies from 0% up to 26% they may last only a second or two. Is there something wrong with my phone? I feel like I've exhausted finding a resource hog.
If you have a custom recovery installed then do a nandroid backup and flash a fresh install of something to test it. If its not broke in the test then you can restore tour backup and continue to troubleshoot. Honestly though its easy enough to just start fresh. I do it every few days/weeks on a new rom.
Heck at this point flash something ICS or even JB. I can't think of a reason to ever use a GB rom again.

I'm currently using codename, great rom. I've only used my nandroid backups several times but they do work. Always just made my backup in whatever custom recovery I was using at the time. Can't remember what recovery I used on GB. Its been a while. Edit just use the el26 blues mentioned above
When switching between ROMs or experimenting I use SMS backup and restore and call log backup and restore from market. Its nice to have those old texts and call logs sometimes.
I use SMS Backup cuz I want to save my texts but I don't know if I need to save my call log.
Thanks for the recommendation. Paranoid Android looks pretty cool.
