Hello,
So, this is pretty much the question.
A friend of mine has an European GSM Galaxy nexus.
He is going to Australia for a year. Will his Nexus work there with an australian SIM card? Will 3g and GPS work with no issues?
Thanks for the help.
Cheers!
Yes

The nexus is a pentaband phone - 2G and 3G will work worldwide.
Like - worldwide.
There are only a few pentaband phones in production in the world...not sure why.

I have wondered does galaxy nexus lte network work in European? Because European model doesn't have lte network and has only 16gb of memory so I was thinking that I would buy nexus from Verizon if that lte network would work in Finland. Could someone smart tell me if it is possible thanks

Won't work. The frequencies are all different.
And here in Finland 4g is already working but I don't know does nexus support only Verizon network that isn't in here

The LTE version is CDMA/LTE. European carriers are all GSM. And to my knowledge, there aren't any big LTE networks yet being rolled out there...
So no, it won't work at all. Even if you got ahold of an LTE SIM from a local LTE carrier it wouldn't work with the frequencies in the Verizon device.
Okey thanks.. I will buy European model then

Verizon LTE model is using band 13 700mhz radio and it'd factory locked to Verizon. You guys are using 800mhz/2600mhz as far as I know so it will most definitely not work.
Just go for the HSPA+ version.

Alright :d
who do i know if my Galaxy nexus is gsm or lte?
What network are you on? The only network offering the LTE Galaxy Nexus is Verizon.
Differences include the fact the GSM Galaxy Nexus has 16gb of storage whereas the Verizon LTE version has 32gb.
The LTE version is also slightly thicker.

Okay, newbie here. Will be buying my first smartphone and I've decided on the galaxy nexus. First, some important info: I'm from Canada. Bell has the phone on a three year contract with a $50 plan, which I don't want. So I'm looking at buying an unlocked version so there won't be contracts and I can use which ever carrier I want.
NegriElectronics seems to sell it unlocked. (aww.....can't post links.)
However, when I asked the guy, he said that it was the GSM version so will only work with gsm networks. But from my research online and a similar post on this forum, it seems that any and all galaxy nexus phones have quadband gsm and pentaband hspa so will work with all carriers?
So I'm currently confused as to which one is correct. I really want to make sure. Since I'm new to this, any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Both are correct. The GNex is a quadband GSM phone, and thus will operate in all GSM networks.
Canadian carriers already killed cdma, so you can use it on basically any carrier you want on Canada. Only if it's not lte SIM card or anything like that

Thank you very much to both for clarifying. So wait, what if I buy the galaxy nexus from either windmobile or mobilicity as they both allow you to buy it outright without contract? Will I still be able to use the phone with other carriers or will it be locked to the company I bought it from?

Hey guys,
I`m from Brazil and I`m spending some days in Victoria - BC. I want to buy a galaxy note 2 but I found only locked Galaxy Notes 2 with carrier. If I buy one is it going to work in Brazil? If I change the ROM to the international version or any Brazilian version is it going to be unlocked? The lte version works with gsm sim cards too?
tks all =)
Any ideas?

The Sprint model of this phone has an embedded sim. Meaning it's not removable. So unless you do some modifying of the hardware and most likely the software too, it won't work for you.
I know the international version of the phone has a sim slot as should Tmobile and AT&T.

att doesn't cover Canada, nor does Sprint. trythe international our t mobile forums

Hi I'm a newcomer here.
I'm going to US for a 10 days trip recently so I'm choosing a SIM card now. Tmobile prepaid card could be a good candidate but the only problem is that the prepaid card says I need a WCDMA 1700mHz supported phone. I'm using a NTT Docomo SC-04D(Japanese version of Galaxy nexus). Does this phone support 1700mHZ? I've googled a lot but they give different answers.
Any other advice on choosing SIM card is appreciated. I'll stay in U.S for 10 days with one gnex and probably one HP veer. Data plan is top priority.
Thanks in advance.
I have an unlocked NTT DoCoMo gnex and it works just fine on T-Mobile. You might need to unlock it tho, not too sure.

Thanks.
Yes it's unlocked since I'm not using it in Japan. So 3G on WCDMA 1700 is working just fine on your gnex? What's your data plan?
Yeah everything works. I have HSPA+ on T-Mobile prepaid
