[Q] Unlocked Galaxy Nexus works with all carriers? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Okay, newbie here. Will be buying my first smartphone and I've decided on the galaxy nexus. First, some important info: I'm from Canada. Bell has the phone on a three year contract with a $50 plan, which I don't want. So I'm looking at buying an unlocked version so there won't be contracts and I can use which ever carrier I want.
NegriElectronics seems to sell it unlocked. (aww.....can't post links.)
However, when I asked the guy, he said that it was the GSM version so will only work with gsm networks. But from my research online and a similar post on this forum, it seems that any and all galaxy nexus phones have quadband gsm and pentaband hspa so will work with all carriers?
So I'm currently confused as to which one is correct. I really want to make sure. Since I'm new to this, any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Both are correct. The GNex is a quadband GSM phone, and thus will operate in all GSM networks.

Canadian carriers already killed cdma, so you can use it on basically any carrier you want on Canada. Only if it's not lte SIM card or anything like that

Thank you very much to both for clarifying. So wait, what if I buy the galaxy nexus from either windmobile or mobilicity as they both allow you to buy it outright without contract? Will I still be able to use the phone with other carriers or will it be locked to the company I bought it from?

[Q]

Probably just answered before, But I looked and didn't see it.
I seen on Newegg.com they are selling an Unlocked Galaxy Nexus. I don't want to leave Sprint for Verizon. Been with them for over 10 years. But, If I purchase the Unlocked Verizon Galaxy Nexus. Can I make it work with Sprint's? Since they use the same towers for Roam and such?
If no one replies to my question I'll take it as "It's been answered".
No, the newegg unlocked phone will only work on GSM carriers.

Of course Also, for what it's worth the Verizon version won't work on Sprint either, so you'll have to switch if you want the phone

Sprint (CDMA): Only for Sprint [other networks cant use this phone.. incompatability]
Verizon (CDMA): Same
GSM Galaxy Nexus: Unlocked
DoCoMo GSM Galaxy Nexus: Locked... use search feature for unlocking tool.
You can buy an already unlocked one from Google for $400
Well I'm guessing I need to get the unlocked one its not a bad price for being unlocked I probably will unlock my glide and sell it but is this phone a good phone

All of them are unlocked really.
Sprint / Verizon: only works on their respective networks because they're the ONLY carriers who use that technology.
GSM is a better variant overall. Updates from Google (Yakju/Takju), better battery life. $399 on Play Store.. yes its good, its a nexus device
Another Nexus Question
Does anyone know if the next Galaxy Nexus for Verizon will come with a microSD slot?

No.... don't make this thread into a Nexus 3 speculation thread.
And there is no such thing as the next "Galaxy Nexus" it'll most likely be under a new name unless its called GN2 which I'll be surprised if that was the name.
Thanks for the help I'm probably going to get it when I have the money

[Q] Which Galaxy Nexus to buy?

Hi,
I was wondering what is the best version of the galaxy nexus to buy in terms of flexibility/rootability. I am using a T mobile USA sim card and i plan to buy data plan in the future. Also, where is the cheapest place I can get that version?
Thanks

+1 Got mine from Play Store. Running off contract on StraightTalk. It will pay for itself in less than a year.

GSM you have one choice, i9250. I suggest buying from the Play Store (good price, full warranty) unless you get a super good deal on a used one.
I'm in the same boat. I want to go from a CDMA variant to the GSM variant and was curious about this too. Is there a real difference between the international gsm version (i9250) and the U.S. Google play store version? For example radio frequencies or software for that matter. Getting it for $300 brand new sealed in box. Thanks.

They are the same hardware & you can flash whichever radio suits your needs.

They're the exact same hardware (pentaband GSM radio). The Play Store one comes with takju firmware, which you want, but any device can be changed to any firmware. The radio can also be changed if you want.
I thought the International version didn't have nfc?

There's only one GSM version, as far as I know, so you might as well get it from the cheapest source (google play, $350 + stuffs).
Don't forget to switch to the $30 100m/5gb t-mobile prepaid. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646755
All gsm have the same hardware, its just the firmwares that are different. The int. comes with yakju or other similar variants while the play store version is takju. Takju is basically yakju + goggle wallet. And if you are in the us, the play store is the way to go. Its a great price and has warranty.

Question bout galaxy nexus

I have had a nexus one since day one. Love it and still runs smooth. Was thinking of getting a galaxy nexus. From the folks that had the gn for awhile should I make the move. And what's best prices out there? And can the verizon be unlocked for Cincinnati bell? Thanks for any info.
Sent from my Nexus One using xda app-developers app
Best price you can get would be from Google the unlocked GSM version on the Play Store is 350$ which is nice considering any other unlocked GSM is hitting the 600 or so at least that i've seen. It is a huge upgrade from that phone seriously though that is an old phone! I think you will be quite pleased with the Gnex especially coming from the Nexus one. If Cincinnati Bell is a GSM type deal i dont think so Verizon's is CDMA even though the SIM is not embedded you cant just stick whatever SIM you want and it will work.

Cincinnati Bell uses the same frequencies as T-Mobile so you want an unlocked GSM model. IMHO you can't beat the $350 for a NEW device direct from Google.
Thank you both for the info.

Ditch verizon for the $350 unlocked GSM Nexus from Google Play (No, the verzion can't be unlocked for CB, it's not even gsm.)
Be sure to check out the prepaid plans for (usually) the best cost. Here's the most popular t-mobile one around these parts, supplemented with google voice.
Also, if you're satisfied enough with what you have right now, you can wait a few months for the next nexus. The GN would probably take a price hit at the same time, so either way you'd benefit from it.

[Q] Verizon lte 4g Samsung Nexus sch-i515

Hi guys new to the forums i did alot of searching and researching but just cant figure out a solution. I purchased this phone as a replacement to use in canada on the bell mobility network when i first recieved the phone i went to bell and tested with there sim card and the phone would not connect, so after being dissapointed i went home and downloaded and installed the Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.1 and unlocked and rooted the phone hopping this was my solution after this i headed back to the bell store and tested again still no luck I am hopping someone has any ideas for me i really would like to get this phone working
thanks
From what I understand, Bell is a GSM network correct? Well, Verizon is a CDMA carrier. The SIM card in our i515 is only for LTE. That's it. It won't work on Bell, I'm pretty sure you need an unlocked GSM Nexus for that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Bell Canada is not a CDMA carrier, you bought the wrong model, research first next time.

id like to know where you found that? if its from bell's website, you need to ask them how to flash a CDMA phone to their network.
if its not from their website, uh yeah... they're pretty much GSM only from what i know of them
EDIT: you found that information not from their website. here's the info you shouldve read: http://support.bell.ca/Mobility/Net..._phone_or_smartphone_work_on_the_Bell_network
oh well im guess im pooched its the internal electronics that are not compatible i was hoping the unlocking and rooting would do the trick

No... The CDMA Nexus will only work on Verizon. I believe some of the very small carriers will work but don't depend on it. I think Rodgers may have a chance, but VZW is very tight about its phones

You could probably manually program it with the tools autoprime posted here in general for 3G, Talk, and Text but you'll never get LTE on it.

So verizon phones cant be flashed to other cdma carriers? Ive seen several verizon smartphones flashed to cricket with no issues, id almost bet the gnex could flash to cricket easy.

Its all about what frequencies the phones radio has. My old incredible 2 had a different radio and could go to cricket, yet my nexus can't get to any other because of the fact that there's more than one CDMA frequency.
