telling the differents between GSM & LTE - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

who do i know if my Galaxy nexus is gsm or lte?

What network are you on? The only network offering the LTE Galaxy Nexus is Verizon.
Differences include the fact the GSM Galaxy Nexus has 16gb of storage whereas the Verizon LTE version has 32gb.
The LTE version is also slightly thicker.

Galaxy Nexus lte network

I have wondered does galaxy nexus lte network work in European? Because European model doesn't have lte network and has only 16gb of memory so I was thinking that I would buy nexus from Verizon if that lte network would work in Finland. Could someone smart tell me if it is possible thanks

Won't work. The frequencies are all different.
And here in Finland 4g is already working but I don't know does nexus support only Verizon network that isn't in here

The LTE version is CDMA/LTE. European carriers are all GSM. And to my knowledge, there aren't any big LTE networks yet being rolled out there...
So no, it won't work at all. Even if you got ahold of an LTE SIM from a local LTE carrier it wouldn't work with the frequencies in the Verizon device.
Okey thanks.. I will buy European model then

Verizon LTE model is using band 13 700mhz radio and it'd factory locked to Verizon. You guys are using 800mhz/2600mhz as far as I know so it will most definitely not work.
Just go for the HSPA+ version.

No, you cannot use the LTE Nexus on AT&T.
Rabble rabble rabble.
Unless the att version has GSM and ATT LTE.
Verizon and AT&T don't have the same LTE network.
LTE Google Galaxy Nexus! - Stock
Asus Transformer - OC/UV
No it won't work. You're going to be using it on AT&T's HSPA+.

Its labeled wrong. It is a I9250. I9250 is the pentaband version (yakju, yakjuxw, etc)
mysid.... SCH-I515 is the code name for Verizon Galaxy Nexus LTE.
HSPA+ on AT&T is considered "4G" on their network.

This is correct.
Just get the unlocked GSM version. It completely flies on AT&T's network.
You need the GSM version, not the LTE on AT&T.
On LTE phones, all voice calls are routed through 3G, which is CDMA, so there's your most obvious reason why the LTE GN won't work on AT&T.

Is this the gsm version and will it work in the uk?

Toro? Toroplus?

What do this terms mean? I have seen them when referring to ROMs, and I know the package to installed to root was called toroplus, but when exactly is it / does it mean? Thanks.
Also, what specific versions are there? I've seen GNex LTE or GNex CDMA and GNex GSM. Aren't all the GNex, sprint and verizon LTE compatible?
These are the internal names for the various Galaxy Nexus hardware.
maguro - GSM international model
toro - Verizon CDMA/LTE model
toroplus - Sprint CDMA/LTE model

Okay so whenever someone says ROM for toroplus that means for Sprint model correct? And why do people say Sprint CDMA / LTE Model? Why the / LTE if it is understood to have LTE already?
haha. BullPlus..
I translated toroplus as extra bull.
...of the people, by the people, for the people...
The Sprint and Verizon versions BOTH have LTE, correct?

Yeah they both have the late antenna just sprint doesn't have the network switch on to LTE yet

So why do people call it the CDMA / LTE model?

Cause LTE is not CDMA technology is different , practically LTE is the new advanced GSM technology while CDMA is the old tech and Verizon and sprint still uses it
Sent from my Sprint Galaxy Nexus CDMA using Tapatalk 2
But the CDMA nexuses have the LTE capability though, right?

We just established this, which is why its called Galaxy Nexus "LTE".
My fast boot mode says as "toro 32GB"
So is it Verizon Gnex? But I am successfully flashed sprint version ROM and radio!
What is it exactly?

Got mine from Sprint and fastboot still reads Toro 32GB after the official update. Do any Toroplus actually even say Toroplus in fastboot? My last one from Sprint was the same.

True, but since all three variants are the Tuna family...
Toro is the fatty and more expensive sushi tuna.
Maguro is the lower cut.
And Grouper?
Another type of fish.
But to the OP:
What carrier are you using?
If it's Verizon you're Toro.
If it's Sprint you're ToroPlus
If you're carrier is anyone else...you're Maguro.

Does an European GSM Nexus work in Australia?

Hello,
So, this is pretty much the question.
A friend of mine has an European GSM Galaxy nexus.
He is going to Australia for a year. Will his Nexus work there with an australian SIM card? Will 3g and GPS work with no issues?
Thanks for the help.
Cheers!
Yes
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
The nexus is a pentaband phone - 2G and 3G will work worldwide.
Like - worldwide.
There are only a few pentaband phones in production in the world...not sure why.
